Reversing Ulcerative Colitis By Adopting a Carnivore Diet - Brett Ender: Ep 91

  • Today we talk with Brett Ender (aka @MrSollozzo) and hear how he reversed debilitating ulcerative colitis by adopting a carnivore diet. He had started to notice symptoms while at college but while serving an internship after that and commuting 4 hours a day by train to and from New York City. He started to notice more and more blood in his stool but was too embarrassed to mention it to anyone and just assumed it would heal on its own. But it just got worse and worse and at its peak he was going to the bathroom 30 times or more a day and effectively he was just passing straight blood! Finally he tells a doctor and ends up on a drug called REMICADE which does help but it is $65,000 per infusion and he is told he will need an infusion every 6 - 8 weeks for the rest of his life.
Then he stared to hear that a carnivore diet approach might help him and when he heard doctors like Shawn Baker talk about it he though it might be worth trying. He started to notice improvements . Before long all his symptoms had evaporated. But he was still on the REMICADE and experiencing a lot of bad side effects from it. He had to work really hard to convince his doctor to take him off it but finally he did and it's been plain sailing every since!!

My 66 yr old husband is building more muscle than he has ever had with low carb and high intensity resistance training. He had accepted that he would always have a distance runner's body. Now more like a sprinter's body. He's very happy.

Wow this was good. I've been fighting Crohn's for over 22 years getting the same med and IV treatments he has. I've been getting the IVs for about 15 years. Now I've been on the Carnivore plan for 4 months. I feel better but still a long ways to go to be healed up. I hope I will heal up. I've lost so much of my life. I'm 63 now and tried so many things and diets none of it worked tills the Carnivore. Spent thousands of dollars my wife left me in part because of this. When you have this many times you just stay home because your weak and feel sick all the time. If you have US or Crohn's really any IBS I'd try this for 30 days to see if it would help you.

Your words mean a lot to me. I'm also 63 and desperate as no biologic has worked, I had a resection 10 years ago and was down to 116lbs from 160. I'm currently on Liadla and a very limited diet and started CBD oil which pulled me out pf a year long flare and doing better but recently had a scope exam and Dr said it looked like a qar zone in there. I'm stuck at 133lbs now and can't gain weight but can tolerate meat, which surprises my Dr's and family. I am going to go on this diet after I visit my son on Florida next month. I'm afraid to change things up with a trip upcoming. But it was really great to hear your experience. So many on this diet lose weight and I need to gain. Best wishes

Excellent podcast! Glad this man has figured it out whilst still young. It took me 38 years to find a diet that causes me no gut issues. This guy appears super confident and self aware and able to shut out the conventional mantra about carbs. Also, it takes a while to be comfortable with a plate of meat / eggs / fish. It looks quite ‘beige’ and totally opposite to the ‘eat the rainbow’ = health plate that is popular now.

Great UA-cam video. I had the runs like 8 times a day and had colitis also. So not as bad as his. I discovered that I had to go gluten free when I went to Japan and stayed with a traditional family that did ate a non-western diet. Within a few days I had no problem! It was the first time in years:) But then when I went back to the states within two days I was having diarrhea multi times a day again. SO I realized that the difference was absolutely no processed foods or anything with wheat in it. So I went gluten free on my own even though the doctors thought I was crazy.Within 3 months my arthritis was so much better that i was able to stop the pain killers and only doing one ibuprofen a day.

I’ve had Crohn’s / UC since middle school. I turn 24 tomorrow. I started out on Remicade. This biologic worked for some time but failed and they switched me over to Humira. Humira worked for a while, but between the lengths of pre authorization and me not getting my shots on time Humira is failing me. It seemed to have kept a major flare from happening but now it’s getting worse. I started carnivore a little over 2 weeks ago. The first week was horrible - between me recovering from a recent flu - eating way less sugar and carbs - and quitting nicotine it was rough. The second week seemed much better. Felt low energy at first but that started to improve with the passing days. No stomach pain I thought things were actually improving. But in the last couple of days I’ve been having a lot more blood in stool and more frequent bowel movements, and of course stomach pain 😢 In the beginning of carnivore I was drinking milk. The past couple days I have cut that out, as I know it can aggravate symptoms. I also eat fruit but I’m planning on cutting that out too and just going strictly lions diet. I go to my GI doctor in a few weeks for a checkup. I know if I say my symptoms are bad he’ll up the dose on the immunosuppressant :/. If that happens how am I supposed to know if it’s the diet or the medication that’s working🤦‍♂️ I want this diet to work. I want to be off meds. I’ll keep everyone updated and open to hearing advice from people abt my situation.

So, in my opinion, it is anything that doesn't have sugar in it. Coffee with cream in it works just fine. Sparkling water is great, no sugar. Juice is really bad, more sugar in fruit juice than almost anything. Also, while not ideal, drinks with artificial sweeteners will work too. As long as there is no sugar in it, it will work. You can wean yourself off the drinks with artificial sweeteners as time goes by.

Anyone that has Ibd and has done all the diets to heal knows its a roller coaster. One day a food is fine, the next it's not. Eliminating sugar and anything processed is a good start. I think carnivore could be a great elimination diet and help get off sugars and carbs and slowly introduce things, minus the processed food everyone thinks they're addicted to and can't live without.

This is how bigPharma and bigInsurance works. What you rightfully suggest would be peanuts for these players. Think people, think.
