@@jayhill2193 The USB Type-A 3.1 ports are 10gbps. Ever since Apple went to a USB-C connector for their thunderbolt ports, the connections suffer the same problems as any USB-C: the connection is small and sometimes even a small bump on the cable will cause a loss of connection. This is due to the small size of the connection pins, and the fact that USB3C cables (or thunderbolt3) don't seat as firmly or as solidly as either USB type A or THunderbolt 2/Display port connections. Furthermore, you end up 9 times out of ten needing a dongle.

It's probably a deliberate ploy by apple's aesthetic marketing division to stop people using the mouse while plugged in - heaven forbid someone witnesses an apple mouse with a cable.
Don't worry, you won't use it long enough to have a need to charge it anyways. The damn thing is incredibly uncomfortable to hold, no matter what kind of grip you use.
The Magic Mouse is the least Apple thing Apple ever made. It is a stupidly uncomfortable mouse and that charging port is just icing on the cake. Apple is at its best when it retains Steve Jobs' core principle of making products that best solve the problems humans have with computing. Does the Magic Mouse really solve the problem of having a good point of interaction with a computer? No, it's a horrible mouse and I hope to God Apple launches AS Macs with a new keyboard and mouse that are truly great. Remember, Apple invented the mouse and used to make the best keyboards in the world when they made mechanical keyboards.
It's stupid, but it still lasts a few weeks of daily usage between charges. Worse is that the the acceleration off or the DPI is low or something and it doesn't feel quite right, to me at least.
@@buffdogg Not at all. They get a pass on things that no other company would all for the sake of aesthetics. In the hunt for the thinnest laptop possible they removed almost all the I/O, installed a cooling solution so poor it instantly thermal throttles, and isn't upgradeable or repairable in any way. Or how about the "beautiful" trashcan desktop that was only upgradeable via thunderbolt. There are laptops that are easier to add storage to. Hell even the machine we looked at today has 100% of the I/O on the back of the damn machine! How is that not form OVER function?
The monitor's glass uses (nano) micro-bump to make it matte. This is what we did back in the days for CGI before PBR and real soft reflections. (roughness control/maps) We use to add super tiny fractal bumps to our reflective surfaces to get a nice matte sheen. Intensity controlled how spread out (blurry) it was.
I love that dying a little inside when your computer starts talking to you on startup is so universal. I worked on my sisters laptop last week and I hated that so much.
Carter Curry Apple does this for the benefit of the visually impaired. Which would have a problem turning on that accessibility feature if it were off by default. ITs much easier to have sighted people turn that feature off if they don’t need it then the other way around. Not every visual impaired individual will have a sighted assistant to help them set up their computer. It’s a trade-off but one I’m willing to live for the benefit of blind people. I believe though you can simply mute the volume during setup if it bothers you.
@@Charlesb88 Obviously that is its purpose. Did you really think i didnt know? That doesn't make it any less annoying or seemingly pointless. I would like to raise a question. When was the last time you saw a blind person use a normal computer? Can you find one video that shows them doing so. And no, legally blind doesn't count. If you are too blind to drive, that doesnt mean you can't put big lenses on to read off a screen. An actually blind person using a normal computer and relying on the speech function to navigate the pc. Guessing you won't, but i will be impressed if you do. Overall, obviously the function has good intentions, but not only does it end up being turned off by nearly every person that turns on a computer, but that wasn't even my point. The idea of your computer sort of "being alive" has been attepted for decades. Our society seeks to be automated, so the idea that you computer is controlling itself more only makes then seem cooler. However, the actual methods that have been tried for this have been so shit over the years that people like me have grown to hate them instead. Also, why do i get the feeling that you have some connection to apple? Your responce seems so cookie cutter and out of one of their 10 grand over priced picture books that i feel like you almost get paid for this. Eitherway, you seem a bit slow if you don't understand what my point was about so ill explain something. Just because you can read something and take it one way doesn't mean that you have taken the full face value of it. Not to mention any underlying meaning. Spouting random crap like this that is common knowledge to anyone who has read the decription under this particular setting much less someone who works in computer science. It was a comical remark i was making about the joint hatred of computers talking to you every time you set one up. If you have done it a few dozen times, it gets old having to push that mute button after it starts blasting 100% volume at you. It has a purpose, but im quite sure it doesn't actually serve such a purpose to anyone. It would probably be better to put it the other way around and simply have the person navigate to a corner and click to enable it. The world is set up to fit the vast majority not the minority. There is a reason power buttons are put on the right side of devices, guns eject there cartridges to the right, and the ignition for vehicals are on the right. The vast majority of people are right handed, so most everything that isnt ambidextrous is set up for right handed use. And when it comes to disability, do they put the handycap elevators infront of the stairs so everyone has to walk around them? No, they put them off to the side so the vast majority of people aren't obstructed or have to undergo another step to do something. But all of this is rendered moot by my previous point. I don't believe i have ever heard of anyone at any point properly navigating a computer by sound in the first place, and if they do use sound, it would also make sense to have something like a brail keyboard and several other functions to make it more feasible to use. But no, it is thrown onto every computer and serves almost no fuction to any person that powers on that computer. I don't care that it had good intentions, it still annoys people like me and Anthony and that is the point i was trying to make.
@@arjdroid In my opinion, I get a healthy amount of time spent around computers. Either using them, building them, or fixing them. However, basically everyone around me would likely agree with you that it is a bit too much. But I love it, and have no intentions of slowing down any time soon.
Carter Curry Carter Curry Actually, truly blind people use “normal computers” all the time, just with added accesories that make it easier to use blind such as Braille readers. The days when blind people need special computers to use them are gone as they can buy USB-based breale reader/display devices and other accessibility devices for use with normal Mac and PC’s. Besides, even if you know why they did this by default, the fact is that many people in the disability communities find this sort accessibility by default feature to be useful and considerate of their needs even if it may be seen as an annoyance by some sighted folks who don’t need it. Apple considers their needs/desires to outweigh those who find this Voiceover feature annoying, regardless of how small a number the number of blind needing this feature on by default at setup. Ultimately, I don’t see why you need to get your undies in such a bunch over it as I simply muted the volume when setting an iMac recently. When it comes to disabilities, we do a lot of things by default for what ultimately is minority of the population, in the U.S. because we consider the annoyance they may cause to the majority, if any, to outweighed by the benefit to disabled population. This is to me a minor annoyance I am willing to put up for the brief period of time it takes for me to mute a Mac when re-installing/upgrading macOS. Sure, maybe they Apple could tweak how the feature works in this instance so folks like you don’t get blasted at full volume with the VoiceOver features upon setup but otherwise I think were waisting too much time debating the pros and cons of having features like VoiceOver on by default during startup for their minority that need it as Apple not going to drop this default anytime soon though maybe they will tweak it (Apple’s focus on it’s accessibility features is PR bonus that earns it goodwill whereas the few who complain about things like VoiceOver being on for the non-blind during setup is small relatively speaking). Oh and by the way, even if you know what this VoiceOver feature is it’s not common knowledge to everyone reading this comment thread. The fact is that it just not true that this features “serves almost no function to any person that powers on the computer” even if those who would use it are a minority. Apple does research in this area to help determine how best to design their accessibility features and what to enable at first startup/setup and such and they are willing to annoy some folk who don’t need these features to win over others who do (or who advocate for those who do). Braille readers have to setup/installed too before they can be used so VoiceOver can help a blind person do that so they can later switch to reading Braille output from the computer if they prefer afterwards (or in addition). My advice to anyone who setups Macs for other or themselves these days is just learn to mute or lower the volume as soon as you can during the first boot up/setup process on a new Mac/New OS install, if thia sort of thing really bothers you .
I’m from the the UK and initially pre-ordered this 27” iMac (2020) with 2Tb SSD, 32Gb RAM, i9 etc as my 2012 iMac was dying then eventually did during house renovations. But 2 days before the official public sales release and my delivery date, I decided to cancel my order with Apple. Why? Because I and others expect a new design iMac next year, especially with the new ARM chips coming into play. Instead I'm holding off, bought myself a refurbished 2013 iMac with 1Tb SSD.
I would probably do the same if my 2012 iMac 27" dies. I imagine it will be at least a year to wait before a 27-30" replacement comes out. Hopefully, it'll last until that eventually comes out! :)
Build a spec for spec (or close as possible) from some other OEM to see how the prices stack up. Remember the 5K IPS P3 display. People always seem to ignore or say that isn't important for whatever reason when doing these comparisons.
we need more quotes around that """professional.""" Seriously a poorly cooled 10-core 16 gigs, and a mid-tier workstation card for $4100? My $1500 rig would wipe the floor with this in probably every benchmark all while staying at 70C. The fact that people buy macs is stunning to me. Granted a pc doesnt come with a monitor and kbm, but even with a real productivity mouse and full-sized keyboard along with a good panel is an even $2000 I guess those price margins are why apple is almost at 2 trillion
To be fair, this is not the machine for the 'Pros', they have the iMac Pro, which I guess still cooks itself 😂😂 The only good thing about this iMac is the display resolution & probably the colour, not the brightness tho.
Kieran Smith keep in mind that human performance isn't measured in benchmarks, and most professional tasks have to wait for the humans - not the computers. 3D pros don't use macs. There, the performance matters a lot. In some areas, what matters is software. MacOS. Stuff that comes with MacOS. Maybe it's Sketch or Glyphs, maybe it's Final Cut or Keynote. I know that when presenting design projects, building a presentation with Keynote takes me less time than ppt and produces better results, even though I regularly use ppt and am decently experienced in it. I understand that in some areas, what you need is computer performance. But in others, there's only so much computer performance you need, and the rest is your performance - so you pick the software that helps you get more work done. It's kinda disappointing that a lot of people hate on macs over this still, like, it's not hard to get it. I work faster with MacOS, and i stay focused for longer. I get some software that ends up cheaper long-term to license. I get a ton of tiny quality of life improvements from other designers who got the same problems as me and offer solutions. It's.. yeah, it's good business for Apple. It's also good business for me. The question you should be asking isn't whether you're getting better performance. Instead, it should be whether or not you're performing better. If the computer isn't slowing you down, you are. And for some fields, it's all about what you do. Again - there's places where using a mac almost doesn't make sense. Some 3D fields, game design, probably architecture, i don't know. There's plenty of stuff. I'm just saying that Apple products are not a net for brainless people. For instance, design is a field of mostly thinking, and trust me - we do think about our computers, and are aware of the hardware. We're aware of a lot of stuff. From what I know, macs also deal with music far better, but that's beside the point. That's already been made.
Simon audio work on Mac hardware/software is so much faster and stable then Windows, I’ve saved thousands, cause I’m not bogged down by Windows. It’s exactly your point, hardware performance isn’t everything. I’d rather my MBP or iMac cook itself and thermal throttle a little, then have to stop working on a track cause I can hear an audible fan while trying to do a mixdown, etc etc etc. Edit: *hardware performance
@@Jonathan_Wick I will also agree about audio, windows is so bad for anything to do with audio but apple dose it perfectly, anything heavy duty then obviously windows

@@Rudenbehr it's a combination of both. Intel hasn't advanced much in the last few years but Apple is not taking full advantage of what they have either. Apple always goes for form over function. They should try to find a solution with a balance of form and function. It's not like it's impossible to make a nice looking Intel machine. So it's the fault of both Intel and Apple

@@ShiroCh_ID IBM and ARM are both RISC architectures as well while Intel is a CISC architecture (not sure about Motorolla). I stay clear of the Apple economy but it'll be interesting to see how modern RISC and CISC architectures compare. For those not in the know: RISC has fewer instructions which allows for less transistors which allows for lower temps and better energy efficiency BUT, that comes at the cost of having to perform more cycles for certain operations that a CISC CPU might be able to in one. This means that a CISC architecture generally offers a lot better performance per clock cycle but at the cost of significantly higher power draw which results in higher temps. The different architectures also means that most* every Apple program has to be recoded or at least recompiled to work with RISC and some things are bound to break especially Intel specific features. *If the program was written in an interpreter language like Java it may work fine just as soon as it's Run Time Environment is updated to work on the new hardware.

It felt like you didn’t consider that the price was for system with monitor at the very end. Subtract $900 + $500 for that monitor and nano surface (and webcam and speakers) and it’s $3300... which is still kinda too expensive. But add in the custom case, designer keyboard, mouse, and software for maybe another $800 and... that’s only a teeny bit overpriced

7:30 iMac 21.5-inch and the 2019 base iPad got Bluetooth 4.2, the rest of the MacOS & iOS devices including Macbooks, Mac Mini, and other iPads come with Bluetooth 5.0.
We’ve been going 8 years with the same iMac design. It’s like Apple barely puts any of their R&D into their desktop computing division. It took them 6 years to make a new iMac Pro, they’ve been using the same MacBook design philosophy since 2015, and the Mac Mini hasn’t changed shape in ages. There’s also no modular, consumer-level Mac in their product lineup, which would definitely help expand the Mac user base.
Why do you want a change in some of these products so badly? The iMac design looks fantastic - I only wish they'd shrink the bezels (I hope they don't get rid of that iconic chin), the Mac mini does not need a redesign, and why would the MacBooks need a new design philosophy? They are simply consistent.
Alex Birch Like you mentioned, stuff like thinner bezels on the iMac would be appreciated after so long with the same design. I’d also like easier-to-access ports and more robust thermals. There’s just been almost zero innovation with that product for years. The MacBook design philosophy has proven to be an issue, with a very non-pro port selection, no touchscreen, and thermal issues. The Mac Mini also probably needs to grow in size. It’s a hot machine.
@@KizaruB The MacBook design philosophy is not an issue, USB-C is the future which they are rightfully pushing, and in case you haven't noticed almost all the top creators and video editors on UA-cam use it, disproving anyone calling it a non-pro machine. I can't say enough how glad I am that MacBooks don't have touch screens, not only are they completely pointless to almost everyone, they leave your pristine display filled with grime and fingerprints just so you can inefficiently use an OS designed for mouse. And if they try and make it good for both it will just be a downgrade in both departments. I absolutely hate touch screens and laptops and if apple actually does integrate it like the rumours say I will never, ever use it. The Mac mini run hot sure, as do lots of apple computers - but in my opinion I'd say the beautiful thin and sleek designs are worth a little extra heat until ARM comes in and they probably won't run very hot.
The gist of this review seems to be: Some decent improvements but a bit pricey and thermal architecture still compromised by design (no surprise there), so unless you need to buy now, maybe wait until the new ARM based Macs are available. What I don’t understand is how any of that justifies the stupid, click bait title. I love you guys, which is why it’s jarring when you do something like this.
For that price it's hard to recommend, no matter who presents it. Yeah - it has laptop tech in it and has a good screen. But compared to laptops (to stick with the small form factor) you get those specs (10900K+2070-tier GPU) for under 2500$ ... add a really good screen and you are still far below 4200$. But thats the thing with Apple, Dell, Microsoft and so on. People still buy their stuff cause they don't know, what the individual components are worth. Most Apple buyers probably never heard of Nvidia.
Maybe they place the USB on the bottom of the mouse is to avoid it being used while in charge, similar to mobile phones having short charging cables to avoid people using it when in charge. Whole point being decrease in battery life when used in such manner.
Could you try these performance tests with Apple's fan curves and then try them with the fans set to max and see how much performance Apple is leaving on the table in favour of noise output? First thing I installed when I purchased my MacBook was iStats and whenever I'm going to do some processor-intensive tasks I crank the fans to high, if not the default fan curves will just let the processor cook at 100C and the fans will barely ramp up.
It must be so weird for Anthony reading all those comments simping for him so hard. I also like his style of presentation a lot. But how people seem to want to marry him after every single video is just so over-the-top and awkward.
For your own sanity and for you to develop right into a decent adult I suggest you stop using the word 'simp' for every little show of love. Imagine being so intoxicated by internet culture that you can't properly express yourself except through the use of incel-type buzzwords.
Goliath I originally worded it differently but I thought just using the word „simp“ would be easier to understand for all my fellow internet kids out there.
Can you use "Macs Fan Control" app and set it to the max when testing the thermals? Would like to see if Macs can cool themselves if you don't care about noise.
I use Macs sometimes. The most essential piece of software is Macs Fan Control. I always set it to 100%, yes it is loud but there's a fairly noticeable performance gain. Plus I still game on the 360 so I'm used to loud-ass machines.
The bezels. Walked by these at Costco yesterday and just can't get over how the bezels are still mega huge. The lack of lights on anything, including accessories, of course is Apple's idea of minimalism. You never know how much of a charge anything has anymore unless it's either dead or on and attached to a Mac that's also on. With Apple's move to wireless and rechargeable everything this really doesn't improve the user experience.
For 4199$ he wouldn't recommend it either lmao. For 4199 you can probably build a 24c threadripper and still have some money left over for two good 100% sRGB screens AND monitor stands for them.

When a 94°C sustained load is an improvement, you need to dial back on the "form over function" BS. I get prestige objects, but come on, at least give me a decent $1500 PC for the $4000 I'm paying.
I'm just wondering but passively cooling this Mac help in the thermal area? I mean the back is one solid chunk of aluminum after, or if that doesn't help enough maybe add a couple fans inside to blow air across the inside as well with an intake slit at the bottom and exhaust slit at the top.
I do not get, why it should be problem, if the CPU is about 100°C. It is not made out of water. Solder gets lose after about 220°C right? Silicone does not really care about the boiling point of water. Superficial somehow.

I can't believe how unbelievably bad the magic mouse's charging port is.
If I could, I would just leave it plugged in all the time. But then, why would I need a wireless mouse…
It's probably a deliberate ploy by apple's aesthetic marketing division to stop people using the mouse while plugged in - heaven forbid someone witnesses an apple mouse with a cable.
@@BarryTGash That's exactly the reason I've always thought they did it that way - purely aesthetic

@@bigblob1030 great response lol, I have a feeling you deal with this kind of shit more often than a healthy person normally should...

Insane that a "professional" computer worth more than 4000 $ is unable to cool it down when the CPU is under heavy duty.
we need more quotes around that """professional.""" Seriously a poorly cooled 10-core 16 gigs, and a mid-tier workstation card for $4100? My $1500 rig would wipe the floor with this in probably every benchmark all while staying at 70C. The fact that people buy macs is stunning to me. Granted a pc doesnt come with a monitor and kbm, but even with a real productivity mouse and full-sized keyboard along with a good panel is an even $2000
I guess those price margins are why apple is almost at 2 trillion
To be fair, this is not the machine for the 'Pros', they have the iMac Pro, which I guess still cooks itself 😂😂
The only good thing about this iMac is the display resolution & probably the colour, not the brightness tho.

LOVE Anthony vids. Glad to see him get even more love on this channel.
The fans are running right here. You can hear them.
People in the background: _no we're not_
Maybe they place the USB on the bottom of the mouse is to avoid it being used while in charge, similar to mobile phones having short charging cables to avoid people using it when in charge. Whole point being decrease in battery life when used in such manner.
With this being on what is usually an ltt set, we can pretend we finally have Anthony Tech Tips. The good ending.
that cloth covering the monitor is called unwoven cloth. It's used for pillows as well
2:22 don't break the screen!
Agreed as per other comments. Great to listen to Anthony's voice, nice and soft and could listen to him talking about tech all day 👍
We need Anthony installing Linux in some Mac's
Could you try these performance tests with Apple's fan curves and then try them with the fans set to max and see how much performance Apple is leaving on the table in favour of noise output? First thing I installed when I purchased my MacBook was iStats and whenever I'm going to do some processor-intensive tasks I crank the fans to high, if not the default fan curves will just let the processor cook at 100C and the fans will barely ramp up.
There should be a sort of series presented by Anthony where he shows/talks about tech stuff that he likes, mostly Linux!
Hey Anthony, you're definitely looking more trim since you made the video about your VR overhaul, keep up the work and trust the process!
It must be so weird for Anthony reading all those comments simping for him so hard. I also like his style of presentation a lot.
But how people seem to want to marry him after every single video is just so over-the-top and awkward.
On one level or another, Anthony is all of us. Well, at least us in the chat.
@@microtasker on all levels except physical, we are Anthony
@@emoyak8795 Probably including physical for a good chunk of users lol.
There are not enough vents that even you max out fan the heat will be there and might roast your motherboard
This music is nice lol gave me nostalgia for around 2010 rap
I use Macs sometimes. The most essential piece of software is Macs Fan Control. I always set it to 100%, yes it is loud but there's a fairly noticeable performance gain. Plus I still game on the 360 so I'm used to loud-ass machines.
THEY STILL PLUG THE MOUSE IN THE BOTTOM?
oh, Apple....
"Who cares let me do it" love that line
Anthony videos really are the best. Much love for you my guy! 👍
10:45 "I can't recommend that" imagine if it was amd :o
For 4199$ he wouldn't recommend it either lmao. For 4199 you can probably build a 24c threadripper and still have some money left over for two good 100% sRGB screens AND monitor stands for them.
@@Erenzilable I think this will still make sense for professionals who use mac only apps but aren't willing to risk having to deal with the Apple Silicon transition era.
@@jacobnathanielzpayag3885 true, but I feel like it's the businesses that will be buying them, not people
I'm trying to be helpful here...
I think the music was a bit distracting sometimes, maybe too loud, or too harsh sounding,
making me sometimes have to listen in more carefully to what Anthony was saying.
That's all.
Just tryin' to help.
$4,100 for that hahahaha a 2011 design. Apple has lost their minds.
and what's even crazier ... millions of people don't care and they buy the stuff! In a nutshell, one can say that if Tim Cook shit in a bag and put an apple sticker on it, this "" setup "" could also be sold for 5000 $. 👀😲😨😨🤣😂🤣😂👍👍🍺🍺🍺
TomWi They did, they sold it as a stand for the 5K display monitor for $1,000
What are they thinking? I checked their website. There is a 1400 dollar Mac Book Pro that is comparable to my 6 year old 450 dollar Acer. My Acer actually has a faster processor.
I paid it, I need a machine that gets the work done. It don't care about the design which in fact, the screen is unbeatable.
@@robmaas3356 after 20 years on windows I did buy a mac mini M1 and I must say I am blown away.
THEY DIDN'T ALWAYS HAVE THOSE DAMN RAM COVERS. I think they weren't standard on the smaller size for a long time, but I remember having to re-gule those damn screens for a ram upgrade. Most frustrating thing ever.
Imagine if he breaks the screen while disassembling it.
I do not get, why it should be problem, if the CPU is about 100°C. It is not made out of water. Solder gets lose after about 220°C right? Silicone does not really care about the boiling point of water.
Superficial somehow.
"Nanotexture Glass"
Its like a regular matte display but slightly more reflective, and wayyyyy more marketable
nope, it preserves colour accuracy which a regular matte coating would sacrifice
you shouldn't forget that you also get a 5k monitor. How much is a 5k Monitor at the moment?
"I can't recommend that" ... neither do I.
I have to admit: I have really liked Anthony's videos since he started. Great and calm way to present any kind of stuff
I see Anthony, i click instantly
This is pure nostalgia. The last 2011 iMac in history! Reason enough to buy one and just keep it in cold storage until 3011 and celebrate the good old times!
The last time I was this early, Mac desktops were relevant. Oh, wait.
your not even here yet
So 2008?

As someone that bought a Kove Commuter due to the deep discount offered by sponsorship with LTT, the sound quality was shockingly bad. It doesn't help that the start-up sound is the most compressed mp3 imaginable, but it really soured my opinion of unknown sponsors.
It felt like Anthony was dying inside, he reviewed a Mac with Intel inside and did his best to compliment the experience. Conclusion: not recommended
