Today when I walked into my economics class I saw something I dread every time I close my eyes. Someone had brought their XMG Ultra 17 to class. The Forklift he used to bring it was still running idle at the back. I started sweating as I sat down and gazed over at the 700lb beast that was his laptop. He had already reinforced his desk with steel support beams and was in the process of finding an outlet for a power cable thicker than Amy Schumer's thigh. I start shaking. I keep telling myself I'm going to be alright and that there's nothing to worry about. He somehow finds a fucking outlet. Tears are running down my cheeks as I send my last texts to my family saying I love them. The teacher starts the lecture, and the student turns his laptop on. The colored lights on his RGB Backlit keyboard flare to life like a nuclear flash, and a deep humming fills my ears and shakes my very soul. The entire city power grid goes dark. The classroom begins to shake as the massive fans begin to spin. In mere seconds my world has gone from vibrant life, to a dark, earth shattering void where my body is getting torn apart by the 150mph gale force winds and the 500 decibel groan of the cooling fans. As my body finally surrenders, I weep, as my school and my city go under. I fucking hate gaming laptops.

Thank you for including metric units for the weight this time! Much appreciated.
"I've never seen a charger input like this before" - really? Thinkpads (well, at least the one I used at a company ~2 years ago) look quite similar.
@Petraplexity both have the ⎓ symbol; that's the standard for DC power
The craziest part is... it's cheaper in the configuration shown in the video, than a fully decked out 16" macbook pro, with a 9th gen intel i9, 64gb ram, the same storage and a amd radeon pro 5600m gpu, to be correct the macbook is 2000 € more expensive than this beast of a laptop
Alex is just prefect for ShortCircuit. His passion & enthusiasm for tech just saturates the screen. Thank you Alex & LMG.
I had a P4 clevo about 15 years ago... prolly weighted about 5kg with the power brick . Ive always seen them as desktop replacement / portable desktop computers for people who regularly go to lans... Always been big beasts!
The downward pointing arrow for caps is actually a pretty old symbol for it iirc. Probably a reference to the point in time where caps lock keys would actually stay "locked" down.

Exciting thought...
I've seen charger inputs like that before. My IBM Thinkpad work laptop has a power cable port that looks just like that (though it only has one).
The "Laptop" looks pretty cool, but I'm more hyped to see the fearless flyers get some love!
Crazy part about living in Germany. We look at those American prices for MacBooks or Surfaces; you name it - see the price tag and expect it to rise even more for us although the Euro is stronger...

Let me tell you son.. back in the days laptops had battreies like that.. in fact the size of this laptop brings back memories of my own fathers core 2 duo which he still uses.
If this wasn't already a hard buy, the announcement of the 3080 and 3070 kind of made the existance of the 2080 ti and especially the 2080 obsolete.. Soo now is a bad time to buy any of the 20 series and also 20 series laptops I think. RIP
It might be like a year before they come out with a version in this form factor though.
@@danieljensen2626The slides said the 3080 launches 17 september :)

I can confirm that the hat and the socks were really only swag :-) I just recieved my XMG ULTRA 17 2021 with the i9-11900K and the RTX 3080 and unfortunately I didn´t got any XMG stuff with it. Anyway it´s a crazy powerful machine and I like it

I enjoy watching Alex display and demonstrate these items. You has a good personality and I believe he's a fellow Irishman
Expensive, but totally justified when Alex opened it up, id still build a PC and get a used macbook though... but thats just my way of handling things AND if i need windows on the go (always never other than tuning my car but have an POS Hewlett packard for that ppurpose) i can dual-boot or run vmware or paralells on my macbook
you know the laptop is crazy when the charger weighs more then a regular laptop
"rtx 2080 super" doesn't impress me at all anymore :/
You must be super rich then
@@romella_karmey It's because every hotshot laptopmaker thinks cramming a 2080ti into a shoebox with a screen makes it some kind of "one of" amazing gaming machine, while in reality it is nothing more than thermal throttle-city
@@TheDiabolocraft uhmm because most people want to bring their pc anywhere to play or do rendering?? The majority of add on payment comes from portability. It's the extra bucks you pay for a laptop. Other than that, it's not really wise to buy a laptop. It's much more expensive and you have to charge every now and then and you can hardly upgrade it. Sometimes upgrade is costly. Building a gaming pc is cheaper.
Khaleesi Romaerys take this machine as an example. Certainly, portability is not much of a question. Wouldn’t it have been better to just ... you know.... buy 2 machines? And this is coming from someone with an acer gaming laptop.
@@TheDiabolocraft yeahh that amount of money in dollars could buy me a decent rtx gaming laptop and let me assemble a gaming pc with rtx as well!!! And take note, I still have few change to buy food or games.. The price of that 7k laptop beast can be stretched to the last bit in my country.
Doing an ASUS proart move by putting the stuff behind the screen will improve the thermals a lot
With the release of 3000 series, a purchase like this makes absolutely no sense unless you need it yesterday
You guys already reviewed the origin version whyd you even release this?
I recommend keeping the keyboard cover cloth on when closing. It will help keep finger oils off the screen. I had that issue with my alienware m18. Looking to upgrade to this.
Damn... This guy's handling is very bad... Gives me the cringe everytime the laptop bangs on the table.
Isn't it the same laptop that Linus was showing in that Origin PCs laptop video on the main channel? Cuz not only looks same but it also has removable battery and a dedicated subwoofer visible like that Origin laptop
The capslock isnt actually put in the "wrong" way, the keyboard is just in german Layout :D
At this point you're better off with an AIO pc - you get a larger more ergonomic display, built in power and detached keyboard, and it's probably just as "portable".
XMG also resell TongFang, are probably the best for drivers and support out of all the resellers
Dropping and hitting expensive hardware part 2
when the "over the top gaming laptop" becomes "good enough gaming laptop" during the shipping
Why? Mobile RTX 3000 is at least 8 months away
imagine showing up with this at university
Considering an equivalent PC would be $4200, shrinking this down and making it portable is well worth the $2500 premium.
watching him unbox anything kinda gets a bit scary.
5:28 Me a German: Capslock keys can look different then this???
When will laptop manufacturers use gallium nitride power bricks? Would have many benefits, you would just need 1 power brick and it probably would be smaller
Those DC power ports look like the same ones Lenovo use
ROG Mother ship: im the most powerful laptop
A51: No i am
XMG 17: sit down kids
But can you really call it a laptop when its practically not even portable?
actually maingear nomad pro is pretty good. dont know why i heard its got discontinued.

Honestly if you don't upgrade that often laptops are the way forward these days.
This dude in the LMG group throws around and drops stuff wayy more than Linus.

is it just me or does that look exactly like one of the origin laptops that was just reviewed on the main channel
Wait till they manufactured the 30 series for laptops.

And now 20 years later, they can take up to frigging 200 gigs, plus DLC? Yeah...
Sounds like call of duty
What game takes 1gb in 1990s?
@@aliefr2984 Tons of. Diablo 1 for example came out in late 1996, and was already 810 megabytes in size, and then there's the behemoths like Final Fantasy 7 and 8 with 3-4 CDs worth of data.
One thing to note is that only truly few games yet REQUIRED a full installation on the user's hard-disk at that point.
Many games instead opted to do a basic bare minimum installation of some few dozen megs, where as all the heavy data was played from the CD. Some later games started providing multiple install-size options (ie. Daggerfall's largest was 500 mb) , reducing or even outright removing the need of CDs in case of the larger install sizes.
