About Tom:
Tom Voelk is an award-winning automotive contributor to The New York Times. His podcast was the first to win an Emmy Award. He also married way out of his league. Now, stop reading this promotional copy bragging about Tom's photography and editing skills and watch a couple episodes. It's much more interesting. - Авто та транспорт
Guys, you must see the Black Label version of the Continental. The Thoroughbred version of Black Label with Black Velvet paint, Black Venition interior with a cognac type color of trim on the dash, console and door trim. It is stunning.
Bentley who? This is great car that was American designed. The Bentley folks need to stop their BS! Smoothest ride on the road. Far superior to Cadillac or BMW. I own one so I speak from experience. This is a good value in the luxury market. BTW: Tom the transmission selector is very simple, you like other so called experts keep knocking it which is juvenile. I like your video but it is really a great feature. Enjoy a truly wonderful Lincoln experience of quite luxury and buy a Continental.
ConservativeCause Bentley who? lol you sir, must be mad. You clearly never owned a Bentley
Can't wait to buy this used in 2 years for cheap.
legendray2008 me too. Can’t wait
Can’t wait for 2028 for cheap price.
You know, you can buy a Mercedes S class used for cheap. They were rated as losing 70% value in first 5 years. (almost worst of any car ). I've gone that route. I'll take the Lincoln !
So... Did you get it? I got curious. 😀
Still holding it's value fairly well. Similar to the CT6.
Everyone's saying it's bland, and boring but I've been seeing these things a few times so they're selling them.
And you drive what?
grandma and grandpa deserve a nice car without destroying their retirement savings.
If they have trouble affording this, they didn't plan for retirement very well. Average Lincoln customer is now about 58. Must be nice to retire that young.
I'm not talking about having "trouble affording" it
I'm talking about having money left over for grandchildren, charities, etc. not everyone wants to dump $80,000 on a decently optioned german car
Somehow, that makes little sense. Is someone holding a gun to you're head and forcing you to buy?
We've finally made it past 50k. I've been hanging in her for years, hopefully the growth is exponential as you've put in the work and consistently given us greater quality videos than channels with more resources.
I'm a Cadi Man, and I was planning on buying the CT6 but after seeing this car I may become a Lincoln Man.
Do it man.
I've had a Lincoln for the first time for 4 years which is a 2006 Town Car & love it which I think I just might stay with Lincoln. I like the high gloss wood in the darker interiors than the wood in the Cadillac cars as the XTS which the XTS looks nice in exterior design.
On my 2nd Lincoln, come on over to the dark side.
I like! Keep it up!
Excellent review as always. Thank Tom. Cheers from a Canadian fan.
A slick presentation. You're really good at this, Mr. Voelk.
Great review as always.
This is a very beautiful Lincoln
I really like it.Good review
Love your reviews Tom. Quick question, can we be expecting a new Honda Civic Type R review on your channel any time soon?
Finally, a car that is putting Lincoln back on the map. According to sales numbers, they are selling quite well.
How wrong that was. Failed.
@@MercOne Wow, your up to 2017.😀It wasn't so much the Continental was a failure, but the fact they killed the Fusion.
@@66skate Stop and try to see if you can think here. Do you think that if the Continental was a success they would have flushed it with the Fusion? If the car had been worth saving they would have. Unless you're telling me that Ford's business model is so hosed that when a donor car/platform is killed off, everything on that platform automatically gets canceled?
@@MercOne Lincoln simply doesn't sell enough vehicles to justify it. Every Lincoln has a Ford counterpart.
@@66skate And that is their problem, not the competition's. I really don't understand why American car apologists argue these things like it's a universal problem. Its a pitiful outlook.
I like the music =)
Golden key ending: "alphanumeric names are fine, if they mean something (Mercedes, BMW, Audi cars, not ct6...). Continental is the heritage... "
L I N C O L N forever!
Yes, they can send the product tooling for the Bentley after Bentley took it from the 1973 Caprice Classic. I had that car, today's Bentley strongly resembles that car. (really nice car - the Caprice Classic)
Hi, Tom! Would love one of that tees! Not been around the new site yet. Can I have one even if I'm not in the US? Thx, love your reviews. Best in class.
Looks stunning
Lincoln>Cadillac, period
A few years ago that would have been a joke so props to Lincoln
I was waiting for this review to make my mind over a ct6, genesis or this, but just made it more difficult, the seats are superb in this though
Mentioning "Cue" when talking about the Lincoln user interface... clever :)
Does anyone else see this as the new and improved version of the LS? That’s exactly how I see it
I love this car ! it does kinda resemble other luxury cars but so what ... every car maker shares looks .. some of you say it be cheap in 2 years ...look at some mercedes E-class from 2015-2016 they at the $34-40.000 range
I have a recommendation, can you please get a 4k or just a 1080p 60 fps camera? it makes a video so much better. thx
The best sound system I've ever heard was in the new XC90...$3,200 option, but it is serene
Same mistake that Cadillac made with the CT6 - Too Small! I think they should have made it as big as the S-Class, but with the E-Class price. They should also level up on the build quality - this and reliability is where the value lies. GM and Ford now have the technology to build their cars with a comfortable American luxury car ride that isn't wallowy. The stylists did a great job on the interior so this doesn't need to change much. Engineers did a great job on the engines, powerful yet efficient enough to get good gas mileage. Exterior dimensions are awkward mostly due to the front-drive platform, making the car look low-rent.
I love it
Maybe it's just me but I'm in the minority. I think it looks stunning up close. I saw one in this metallic gray and it was like a diamond....looks reserved yet elegant....I see enough Audi A6 and E classes to know I don't want one. Give me the Continental in Reserve in Rhapsody Blue or Magnetic Gray...
looks soo good tho
Tom, I think you could fit more than 6 in the TP trunk test.
The external door handles look a little high, does it feel awkward to use the handles? And thank you for talking about the audio system, it is so hard to find reviews that talk about that the sound systems.
the handles would take some time to get used to, the audio system is really good, better than the Cadillac and even better than the one inside an E-class, you need to test drive this car to fully appreciate the music quality it makes
It seems weird that Bentley ended up with a Ford Motor Company Trademark name! I assume Ford trademarked the name Continental. Ford first used the Continental before WW2. Bentley Noo....
Just Gorgeous 🥂
Amen to the name!!!
Why didn't they update the MKZ like this??
Remember what I said under CT-6 video? I stad by my words and I wish to include this one. Very classy car. Doesn't scream that you're rich, but it says that you like comfort and women are attracted to that. Only one complain - white color? Better black or dark satin blue or purple.
Too bad Lincoln didn't keep the THX Surround Sound but I guess the Revel Surround Sound is just as good but I don't know.
Most beautiful American car ever created
Um, no.
Ted Unguent i said American car, and modern American car.. So yeah
I think I kind of see the problem. Yes, our cars have gotten better, though the Germans still hold a lead. However, when I see these cars and their improvements, I see competent takes on the german formula, but they kind of feel like an "alternative" in that respect, like a Hyundai Genesis or Equus. Basically, you don't think of these as dream cars. They're like, oh, look. lincoln/cadillac/hyundai are following Benz and Bmw's formula...with decent results, but I still rather take a benz. Even if lincoln/cadillac suddenly built a car better than an E-class or 5 series, it would be hard to convince the luxury market to buy it because benz and bmw still dominate in the mind. They have this almost mythical "zing" factor Lincoln/Cadillac/Hyundai just can't replicate (at least right now). That takes time/legacy to build. And the formula for that isn't simply recreated in a factory.
I like more than the ct6
I don't think I'm going to get used to those door handles.
the rear of the car reminds me of the hyundai azera
What I don't understand is the lower suspension in the rear. For a luxury car when I see these cars it looks like the two rear shocks are broken. The car is beautiful in the front but this drop in the back looks bad. If you load up the trunk with a few pieces of luggage and add just two adults it's not a pretty seen. They did the same thing with the new Lacrosse. The previous model would sat nice and high off the ground but now it's really low and the rear is also lower.
Nice car, different is good
M Lee it doesn't look different at all.
I love the looks on the outside. But the interior........
I thought the CT6 competes with the BMW 7 series and Mercedes S class when it came to size. Wouldn't Cadillac CTS be a more direct competitor?
Aaron Jones the CT6 is a bigger than a 5 but smaller than a 7 but priced as a 5 competitor.
The Big Three have come a looong way!
Me too
Just got one 200k miles 2019
$6200 🎉🎉
I bet one could get a used Maybach over this and be riding in more style and comfort for a lot less dough. I've so far only seen livery drivers getting these Continentals... kiss of death for Lincoln again
Good luck on the maintenance. If the suspension craps out, its 10k almost for a round replacement
King Julian Stick to bamboo cars lemur, it’ll cost less!
nice website, just had a peek :)
And someone just ordered a T-Shirt! The first one.
I like it...
Tom,
Thank you for an accurate adult review of this, the finest Continental to date.
Want to pass caddies, fine, only know that wife thinks you are insane and wants a divorce. Seriously what is a true luxury car for?
The Continental lifestyle, live a little.
Cheers!
Eric
I saw a pre owned reserve model for 41k
If trickle down anything ever had a place, it's here. Lincoln should have its own R&D department from which innovation trickles down unto Ford. That would give it prestige and really distance it from Ford and ultimately position it above it in terms of perception. For all we'd know, Ford could be the daughter company and the parent, Lincoln; not the other way around.
I believe it's doable, at least in markets where Lincoln is unknown but would like to tap in and Ford is not seen favourably.
the rear could have been better
The Nerd Next Door they ruined the concept tail lights by putting that white stuff in there.
1:36 Ford quality right there. Watch the entire panel move. This is not a CT6 competitor. This is an XTS competitor.
Mark of Excellence coo coo bird
I'm driving my 97 Conti until it dies.
🥂
I love it, although I'm a FoMoCo guy! Hey Bentley, since when is the shape and lines of the body reserved for your cars only? It resembles the Bentley because it looks sleek and modern .... Isn't imitation the most sincere form of flattery?
Call me old-fashioned, but I think of Continentals with long/wide grilles joining the headlights. The best looking ones were from the 1950's thru 1970, then it lost its way from 1972 to 1987.
you are old fashioned
Lincoln is a lot more reliable than cars like cadillac, mercedes, bmw, jaguar, etc. decent car nonetheless.
GRAVITAS. EVERY REVIEW. GRAVITAS GRAVITAS GRAVITAS
Rear looks like an Azera. The rest of the exterior looks like a chinese Bentley. Interior is kinda good tho.
I could have had a Continental but the dealers never order any sub 60k cars and they never have the blue on blue car like the concept they showed at a reasonable price. I also was turned off completely by the MPG figures on the window sticker. I like big American cars but the 300 styling just doesnt do it for me and the Continental just isnt special enough, available enough, or efficient enough. Good effort Lincoln, but not for me. I would have bought an ELR is they didnt discontinue them, or a plug in Cadillac if they werent 75k each... I ended up going with a Chevy Bolt as I just hate freezing at gas stations in the winter and oil changes. Nothing luxurious about that... Also my Chevy Dealer is BETTER than both of our Lincoln Dealers by what feels like a decade or more of investment inside and out.
Bolts are for cheap boring people, can't even compare with a real car.
Used is worth it
this or a ct6
This car is soooooo beautiful
It's not a bad looking car, but what I can't stand about the design are the front wheel drive proportions -- short hood, fenders, and giant cab. It's just wrong for a flagship Lincoln.
J uh st say u dont like Lincoln lol. He seemed so disappointed that he had to do this
What do you do with all that toilet paper? lol
I want to float
Hey apple fan boy you did not mention Android Auto!!
As much as I love luxury cars for the ride, comfort, interior amenities, I feel Lincoln is lacking in the wheel department. The rims are just so plain, non elegance looking at all. If you are pouring money into bringing back a car like the Continental, dress up the exterior and make this car "turn heads" when driving down the road. Nothing about the exterior other than the grille and door handles making me want to "turn my head" at this vehicle from the exterior point of view.
note to marketing team at Lincoln who specced this car, that leather and wood trim do not go together.
Alex Graham It's fake wood, that's the real problem.
It's real wood.
omg if true that makes it even worse. How do you make real wood look like fake one?!
they should have taking the early 60s lincoln continental ques and made something cool....such uninspired styling...
72,000? Lincoln Conn. or something European?
gaurd3 Lincoln hands down.
not that my opinion matters, but, nice haircut Tom my boy, quite nice in fact (nothing to "read" into my comments either) as for the car, eh, it's still a FORD
It looks like a Chinese copy of a Jaguar mixed with a Bentley..
Harry C You need glasses.
Needs more gears
aayonce4 I'm hearing in the '19 model year, the 6-sp. Will be replaced by a 9-sp.
Billy Sou would be nice to see the effects of the upgrade
Hopefully, the 9-sp. will help fuel economy. Acceleration is pretty good for the 0-60 in 5 sec. for the 3L turbo V6 with the 6-sp.
@@76carmelIt wasn't.
This “Reviewer” Is Bias & All Wrong 📍
Cadillac CT6 is above this Continental....much above....no comparison to the German's
This car shouldn't have had a V8 option. Then I'd have bought one.
you and at least two other people
@@trumpisastump9382 Works for me though. I'm not a fan of baby engines.
What ever happened to the '62 Continental's beauty with which Lincoln wowed the luxury car world? Those cars are still, to this day, modern looking and stunningly gorgeous.
Lincoln (Ford) builds great automobiles. But somewhere through the years they lost their stylistic grandness.
Hell, Kias/Hyundais look better than this car. But this does look better than the new Camry...lol
Watch the Kelly blue book review. Its like 100 times better.
You should have included a link.
I like both the KBB and Driven reviews because each has a unique style. They are polished, yet personally engaging. Both employ humor, but of a different style. Good work by both.
Theres nothing to sway consumers at its way. 13 way adjustable seats? Thats not enough to make anyone change there mind
$45 grand ain't bad for a start price.
I think this Lincoln does to Mercedes, Volvo and Acura what the new corvette does to Porche and Ferrari. Beats them at their own game for half the price. "In your face" Beemer! 🇺🇲 😅
Might as well get a benz for this price
Enjoy a high price money pit!
16 mpg in the city for a V6 turbo???? That horrible!!!!! No wonder no one is buying it or heard of it..... my Lexus LS460L with a big 4.6 liter V8 give me 24 mpg in the city if on eco mode.....and 27 mpg on the freeway....
why didn't they do suicide doors I thought Lincoln started it
Sorry, I don't see Bentley anywhere, except for the name, which Lincoln used first
matt k The grille, the bump over the rear wheel arches.
Ya but you would by a bland flying spur, then would,nt you.
the concept was way better. this is a bit boring to my eyes. I can't imagine to many people buying this.
Jamaican Me Crazy haha yeah ok
I think the 300 looks like a ripoff Rolls Royce. Not so much Bentley.
Hunter Dugas the first gen did!
This This car can be considered as wealthy people in the u.s.a ?
72000 for a Fusion?
No V8?!
Ali 1002jj No V12 either!
No Lincoln V8 ever made 400 hp or this fast.
This is elegance not luxury
Drove one. Felt like a fake ripoff of an S class on the interior and the Transmission felt jerky and hesitant and The motors on the power seats are really loud....
Your gripes are complete bullshit
