Awesome review! Definitely a cut above most of the current magazine car guy reviewers, and surely not simply because of the accent, my opinion is based solely on the excellent in depth content and both the driver's and passenger's perspectives of this car. Nicely done, Bravo! I have an older Lincoln, a 14 MKZ 2.0T and I'm almost drooling on myself seeing this video of this marvelously delicious new Continental! I must say this car is bringing Lincoln solidly back with a vengeance! DO WANT!
I attended the Miami Automotive Expo today and I was pleasantly surprised by the Lincoln Continental. It exceeded all the criteria that I have for a luxury sedan and I would be more than happy to own one. People tended to find the door handle treatment polarizing but I quite liked it. It's such a unique approach that lends itself to the design in the same way a belt buckle lends itself to a belt. I actually like the fact that the Continental has subdued styling. It looks classy and not overbearing. It epitomizes the "stealth wealth" philosophy. Additionally, I spoke with a Lincoln representative. He stated that the Continental is not being phased out in the U.S. for now and there will be a suicide door version created in 2020. Long live Lincoln, and this is coming from a teenager!
Your "script" was flawless; your professional delivery style was crisp and easy to listen to, free from annoying ideosyncracies so often heard: overly sharp s's, up-talking, vocal 'frying', starting every sentence with something like "So, yeah ...". I know good delivery of well-organized content doesn't happen by accident, so I appreciate the time and effort you put into making this.
had CTS's and BMW 5 series , this car is so much better much better ride than any other luxury car and its cheap.. its the ride its amazing Lincoln has won the lux contest
Kenneth Connors what the hell are you talking about, those cars are completely different categories, the Continental is a full-size vehicle not a mid-sized, I am will take your comment as being ignorance, misinformed, and likely never having had experience with other vehicles. Considering you're comparing completely different class of vehicles to one another.
The soft close doors and probably trunk actually have a purpose besides using less effort. In the past I learned from friends in car audio the trunk pulldown made a difference. Many have heard of dynamat but a tighter closing trunk will not rattle or very little very nice if people ran a subwoofer box. You can sometimes adjust the latch but then the door or trunk takes much more effort and requires a hard slam. With a soft close it can pull the latch very tight to reduce rattle and road noise. Yet you do not need to slam the door or trunk for it to latch.
The one car I’ve always wanted to own is the Continental. Unfortunately I never did, through the years the only drivetrain available was rear wheel drive and with the winters here in Michigan I opted for front or 4 wheel drive. Owned a couple of Ford Expeditions and loved those vehicles. This new Lincoln is a spectacular vehicle and would get one if I could but prices over $60,000.00 make it only a dream for me. Love your evaluations, and look forward to more. Thank you.
Your comment at 3:50 says it all for me. I bought a brand new 1996 Continental and loved it. I bought a brand new 2008 MKX and think it is a wannabe, a clunker. If Lincoln (or Ford) really cared, as you say, they could create a great premium luxury automobile worthy of the price, and compete handily against world class luxury vehicles. This car does not quite get their because Ford did not take it there, it wanted to cut corners, sell us short, and make a few quid more.
Lincoln Continental vs. Lexus RX 350 . . . . which would you recommend for a retirement vehicle? Looking for long trip comfort. Key elements are, quiet & relaxing for two.
I’d put my money on the Lexus as it’s a more practical vehicle and I do think it was more isolated than the Lincoln. But be sure to really test out their infotainment system!
So sad that Lincoln finally made an all-around great car, then promptly pulled the plug (similar to Cadillac bagging the fantastic CT6). I’m a long-time S-Class owner and I recall wanting to take a good look at this, right before it was discontinued. This is a lovely sedan, especially for people like me who don’t like or need SUVs.
@@Deathbruce Ive test drove 2 in the last 2 weeks. The road noise was horrible on older pavement, tar chipped roads. Beautiful. The new Lincoln Navigator has an interior that feels very luxurious and looks nicer than most cars. I hope they bring that quality here to make ths Continental a tad nicer
I test drove a Lincoln Continental yesterday. Drives great, quiet and the seats are awesome... Then I opened the trunk. Golf clubs do not fit into the trunk unless diagonal. Bottom line, if you and 3 of your buddies want to go to the golf course, you can't go in the Lincoln. How about this for an add: "The 2018 Lincoln Continental, a luxury car you can't drive to the golf course... Borrow your wife's E class"
I have a 2010 ram laramie and the steering wheel heats up real quick but it doesnt heat up on the back side. Kinda weird since you hold the back of the wheel too.
I am thinking of buying this car, my current car is Range rover sport 2013 and i want sell it before the price goes down and get something else, so what you guys recommend? Keep my car or buy this?
The Audi S7 and this car are my 2 favourite cars that I’ve owned. The S7 is more performance based but the Continental steals the attention. It’s simpler, more refined and still delivers driving excitement. You’re more likely to see a Ferrari or Lamborghini than a continental, that’s what really makes it cool.
It's absurd that a V8 isn't even offered. Yeah, I get that six-bangers have come a long way, but if there's any car that screams for an 8, it's this. Unbelievable.
Yeah. I'll miss them, but I can live with a V6, even in a car that cries for an 8. Manual transmissions are dying out too, but I'll never be satisfied doing without them...not that this car is a manual tranny candidate.
Recent BMW, Mercedes and Audi models have cheapen the overall luxury appeal of their brand IMO. Lincoln is so sophisticated, design wise, compared to the German trio.
They should have created a Mark VII. @ dr hardtop with sunroof and rear continental kit with fins on the back fenders and round porthole windows behind the driver!
As much as I've loved the Continental for years, I sure don't see a lot of the new ones out on the road. I get that Lincoln is really hoping to compete with Mercedes and other luxury brands with this car, but they really have to come down a bit on the price of this car. The "Black Label" edition is almost as much as a Navigator or Cadillac Escalade! They also need to have stronger engines as I've heard that the 2.7L and 3.0L six cylinder engines, even with turbo, aren't all that quick off the line. A V8 option would be really nice!
Excellent review i can't help wondering though if the lag in acceleration and shifting might be artificial and correctable with a software update by Lincoln or aftermarket tune when available.
the [problem I have with this car is its not like the concept, which looks longer, had better front end treatments and better beltline. With this, it looks like a upgrade of a Taurus with the Conti styling cues...having wizbang seats doesn't save this car from being almost to pedestrian to its competition
Nice car but for taller individuals it seems like there is not enough head room. Car manufacturers need to increase the head room in vehicles. I’m just over 6 feet and I’m tired of my head hitting the door frames and the roof. I don’t like my seat on the floor, but if I raise it up so my knees are level I have no head room.
Now add about 70K for basic bullet resistance and about 100K for max resistance for bullets only upto .50 cal maybe for panels no way for glass, which would be at least 6 inches thick. :) ?
Good review and here in the USA we have a choice of three engines. And I may be mistaken but I think when the car is out of Sport mode and in the Comfort selection it doesn't lean or just barely leans on curvy roads. Beautiful mountain scenery I might add.
@Brian Weir --- He is in Canada and since reading comprehension is not a strong suit with you I said "in the USA we three choices of engines." Read slowly so this will soak in. The new Lincoln Continentals come with the option of a 3.7 V6 producing 305 h.p., a 2.7 twin-turbo V6 producing 335 h.p., and last the 3.0L twin-turbo V6 producing 400 h.p. ALL of these engine choices are available in the United States of America. Try to keep up yourself and know what you are attempting to correct someone about before making a fool of yourself. You're welcome.
The concept was a totally different car , far superior in style and class , it looks like the bean counters were let loose on it and you have ended up with this , now seriously Ford should put this side by side with a comparable Mercedes and say to them selves how does this compare , and if they were honest they would have to say to themselves it doesn't even come close to competing with the existing brands that dominate that segment of the market , so if Ford wants to get back the market share it had once in its own market they have to stop the penny pinching and for Gods sake find somebody that does better than signing of on designs that look like Toyota Camry's from 10 years ago .
All of you have the typical euro liberal central view of the world. You think America just copied Britain. Lincoln were making cars in the 1950s that had that exact same front look and it also inspired from the side by American classic cars but it main modern shape is being dictated by environmental regulations that force cars to look like that to get the correct levels of efficiency so that air will flow over the car.
bighands69 haha, the irony of an American accusing others of thinking that they are the centre of the world. There's no denying that that front end is lifted straight from a Jag xj.
It's not a large, luxurious Town Car. it's not a personal luxury Mark coupe. They shouldn't have bothered. Some things were never meant to change. Word up Lincoln: Build me a very long and very wide 4 door sedan with center opening doors, a Palladian grille, and a V8 engine. OR, build me a Mark IX, with a long hood and short rear deck, a strong V8, and don't forget the spare tire hump in the trunk lid. Either way, I'll be there, checkbook in hand. This bacon-wrapped Ford isn't going anywhere, certainly not in my garage, and probably in very few others as well. Lincoln will lose a bundle on this teeny-weeny turkey - they shouldn't have bothered. Either start making REAL Lincolns, or just shut the goddam doors - will the last executive to leave please shut off the lights.
Do like my last Continental. Let my neighbor buy it new, drive it 3,000 miles a year, and park it covered in flannel blankets. I come along 5 years later and buy it for 1/6th of what it cost new. And drive the hell out of it.
Never cross your arms when steering, if there is a need to do that, what will happen when you are really on twists and turns. Bad driver or bad steering geometry. But they do say American cars are not built for corners.
If the Mercedes E Class is a luxury car, then I am a half foot tall. I like my luxury in American, British, Italian, and Swedish flavors thank you very much.
4 years later....my dream car. had an 08 mkz and totaled it. have a 2012 fusion SEL ...which is great but rather unreliable. this is next if i ever I get my money right
I prefer Lincolns over caddys all day miss my 92 towncar at this price I'll have to wait 20 years before I can own this one lol it really sucks being working poor lol
It seems that people tend to find the door handle treatment polarizing. However, I quite like it. It's such a unique approach that lends itself to the design in the same way a belt buckle lends itself to a belt.
The Road noise inside the CABIN IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. Just listen to the road noises in the background of this video. This is a problem with what seems like all the new Lincoln's ... loud hollow sounds that should be arrested by the correct amount of sound deadening material. When a 10-year-old Toyota Tacoma 4X4, is much quieter than a brand new $50,000 Lincoln, something has gone drastically wrong with Lincoln's quality control, or lack thereof.
Your example of the Tacoma is probably an exaggeration, but with many lesser cars being quieter, it's definitely a major and inexcusable problem for Lincoln. I drove an MKZ, which is a nice car in most other respects, but it was also...not exactly quiet, to say the least. It's a shame, because I really like the exterior look of this car a lot.
11/5/17, $80k......not2day! I have a 2015 Taurus LTD/awd for less than half that. Do you really want to pay $80k for something w/30-way seats, side shades, control panels, etc that will eventually break down & will depreciate by $50k as soon as you drive it away? I once had a Caddy, I learned that lesson.
Dude.. FYI.. the Continental Black Label has full Venetian leather interior. Seats, dash, and doors all covered in the softest leather I’ve ever been in contact with. You should be a little more thorough in your homework. You aren’t driving the top trim.
but damn bro, even the black label isn't offering anything more special than a base Conti outside of upgraded trims...that's some hot garbage. They need to have a lot of tech and other high level upgrades that aren't seat and color changes. Its like getting a BMW M series, or and AMG , youre getting a totally different look of the car, an upgraded engine, totally different instrument cluster and tech, etc etc....Black Series aint moving the needle like that for the money, which is purely dumb ass
It’s great to see Lincoln finally getting back to it’s heritage👏🏽
you mean ugly styling which reminds one of 2001 rover?
And just like that *snap*, it discontinued. Oh well, I really hate trucks and SUV’s.
The door handle design is so unique. If I owned this car, opening the doors would be the mood changer for me.

Very comparable with the Cadillac CT6 also the A8, S90, and 7 series or even an s-class, definitely on par with European luxury standards.

Excellent review!! 👍💯
This review... yawn...
It dosnt have the big trunk like the old town card
and where you pay is through servicing , if they can fix it , they would , they would , a one hour car ,
I much prefer the look of the old Lincolns. This car looks like any other Euro-car, and I would not give it a second glance.
This guy has a very "Mid Atlantic" accent, a bit like Cary Grant. No doubt he's a Brit, but likely lived in the States for ages!
Had to look up who Cary Grant was... He was a Brit like me, but I've been in Canada for 12 years!
And I am stuck in the UK with rubbish weather, lol
You got me on heated steering wheel!
Very beautiful. The car is not bad either.
Most handsome car commentor of them all....
Quite a jolly nice stretched Ford Fusion! One would rather pay the additional 5k for a real bloody luxury car such as a Mercedes E class!
If the Mercedes E Class is a luxury car, then I am a half foot tall. I like my luxury in American, British, Italian, and Swedish flavors thank you very much.
The exterior is nice but is not timeless classic.
I want one!!!
Those door handles gave my a pretty nice loud laugh, wth were the designers thinking???
It seems that people tend to find the door handle treatment polarizing. However, I quite like it. It's such a unique approach that lends itself to the design in the same way a belt buckle lends itself to a belt.
Look like the materials in the car aren't in the correct format to age well over time. It looks dated before it has had a chance to age.
Awesome car. Well done review.
From the perspective of us Europeans American cars look so interesting
