    Moog Source Analog Synthesizer from the year 1981
    The Source is a very nice synth and the first and only Moog to replaced the buttons with a membrane panel. And the first Z80 microprocessor-controlled Moog with patch memory.
    The sound is fantastic, very deep and powerfull. I love the Sources incredible low end sound like the Moog Taurus 1. The best Taurus 1 emulation I have ever heard. In my ears better than the Taurus 3. The Source is perfect for very nice bass and lead sounds. For me one of the best monophonic analog synths ever.

    Had mine from new, first synth I ever bought . Blown many PAs with the sub, Fantastic machine I will always keep. The membrane started playing up years ago and i used to fix it by peeling the membrane apart and painting liquid solder over the dry cracks. Eventually relented and bought a new membrane...worked fine ever since

    The filter on the Source is really mean when in self oscillating mode and if you modulate it with a high rate LFO. It just screams at ya. Great synth, I bought one in '81 and it will never leave my home

    10 seconds into your demonstration, I was already in ecstasy. It has the proper low end for a Moog. So thick... so delicious....
    Thank you for this excellent time travel to 1981 experience. 👏👏👏👏👏

    Without a doubt, the closest one can get to some of the sounds of a Minimoog D (minus one oscillator). With programmability, a sequencer, and an LFO as a bonus. Great demo of this fantastic Moog The Source ! Thanks !

    I always wondered why people talked down about the Source. Yeah, the front panel had issues, but sound-wise, it's vintage Moog. And that's a good thing.

      When I first used my source live with a proper PA I almost blew it up. It sounded so unbelievably fat that I never forgot the sensation, even if it was more than 35 years ago

    The source is a lesson of it's not how many parameters you have - but what you do with them. (Although I will admit the ladder filter does help)

    used to have New Orders Quadra that had Martin Ushers Mod done to allow some form of hookup to this Moog , it was like the Midi 5 pin din , but if I remember rightly it had less than 5 pins or they where staggered , something like that , but apparently it was what Moog used conection wise ,

    • @retrosound72
      @retrosound72  7 років тому +1

      Chris-Cook you mean the DIN-SYNC for syncronisation the internal step sequencer with a Roland drum machine.

    • @TheArpomni2
      @TheArpomni2 7 років тому +2

      RetroSound I guess so , not sure as ive never used one , but know they synced the Quadra and Sourse together for tunes like , Temptation , Hurt , Everythings gone green , Ultraviolence , this Martin Usher guy was their electronics genious who toured with them to Australia ,

      Possibly the S-trig connector used on Moog modulars and the Mini. It has two pins, one flat and one round.
      It could have been a 3 or 4 pin DIN as well, but I’m unaware of Moog using those for anything.

    An interesting direction for them to go in 1981. It was a little too oddball for me..
    I guess just liked having a dedicated knob for each parameter but I suppose having patch memory was nice.
