Moog Source Analog Synthesizer from the year 1981
The Source is a very nice synth and the first and only Moog to replaced the buttons with a membrane panel. And the first Z80 microprocessor-controlled Moog with patch memory.
The sound is fantastic, very deep and powerfull. I love the Sources incredible low end sound like the Moog Taurus 1. The best Taurus 1 emulation I have ever heard. In my ears better than the Taurus 3. The Source is perfect for very nice bass and lead sounds. For me one of the best monophonic analog synths ever.

Had mine from new, first synth I ever bought . Blown many PAs with the sub, Fantastic machine I will always keep. The membrane started playing up years ago and i used to fix it by peeling the membrane apart and painting liquid solder over the dry cracks. Eventually relented and bought a new membrane...worked fine ever since
Yes fantastic synth. With a new membrane like new.
@@retrosound72 I've herad the membranes are hard to find.
@@catvansancina4644 No. You can buy perfect membrane panel replica these days
I didn’t even realize this was Retrosound. This is the best synth channel out there.
Thank you so much 🎹💫
The filter on the Source is really mean when in self oscillating mode and if you modulate it with a high rate LFO. It just screams at ya. Great synth, I bought one in '81 and it will never leave my home
:))
10 seconds into your demonstration, I was already in ecstasy. It has the proper low end for a Moog. So thick... so delicious....
Thank you for this excellent time travel to 1981 experience. 👏👏👏👏👏
thank you so much Peter
Without a doubt, the closest one can get to some of the sounds of a Minimoog D (minus one oscillator). With programmability, a sequencer, and an LFO as a bonus. Great demo of this fantastic Moog The Source ! Thanks !
I always wondered why people talked down about the Source. Yeah, the front panel had issues, but sound-wise, it's vintage Moog. And that's a good thing.
Had never problems with the panel.Very easy to use and the sound is *******
I've owned mine for 9 years and never had a single issue with the membrane or the controls.
It is an excellent synthesizer, no question
Sweet. Blue Monday machine.
:)) thank you
Thanks. I was trying to remember which song used this.
RetroSound never disappoints! 😁
🙌😄😉
This is awesome
Thank you 🙌
Excellent ce Moog Source !!! J'adore son look et le son est fabuleux ! 👍

Tremendous texture!!
:))
Great moog sounds, love the low end. Thanks buddy!
thanks for watching
Sounds superb thank you for sharing this
:))
I have a vintage model D. Honestly, can’t tell the difference, especially when you’re in the upper registers.
Yes the sound is very similar
Awesome, unusual analog sounding moment from this amazing, unique MOOG synth !
Thanks for sharing these sounds throughout this video...
Great week to you with new projects ! ;-))
thank you so much my friend
Fully deserved my friend !
Keep these analog beauties alive ! ;-))
Sweet morher of jesus. That low end will surely disturb your rib cage. Nice to hear this synths' being displayed quite overlooked imo. Goes without saying but, needs to be said, this is one of the greatsest synth channels on youtube without a doubt !!!
Yes the low end of the source is like the Taurus 1. thank you :)
When I first used my source live with a proper PA I almost blew it up. It sounded so unbelievably fat that I never forgot the sensation, even if it was more than 35 years ago
Some amazing sounds.
thank you
The source is a lesson of it's not how many parameters you have - but what you do with them. (Although I will admit the ladder filter does help)
love this
thank you :))
used to have New Orders Quadra that had Martin Ushers Mod done to allow some form of hookup to this Moog , it was like the Midi 5 pin din , but if I remember rightly it had less than 5 pins or they where staggered , something like that , but apparently it was what Moog used conection wise ,
Chris-Cook you mean the DIN-SYNC for syncronisation the internal step sequencer with a Roland drum machine.
RetroSound I guess so , not sure as ive never used one , but know they synced the Quadra and Sourse together for tunes like , Temptation , Hurt , Everythings gone green , Ultraviolence , this Martin Usher guy was their electronics genious who toured with them to Australia ,
Possibly the S-trig connector used on Moog modulars and the Mini. It has two pins, one flat and one round.
It could have been a 3 or 4 pin DIN as well, but I’m unaware of Moog using those for anything.
BASS!!!
Fletch (RIP) synth.
yes
I don't see the sample and hold "LFO" function on the panel layout, is it hidden somewhere?
button 10 S&H
@@retrosound72 thank you! replaces S&H the current lfo waveform or is it sepreately available?
the same LFO
true moog beauty 7:47

Saucy!

An interesting direction for them to go in 1981. It was a little too oddball for me..
I guess just liked having a dedicated knob for each parameter but I suppose having patch memory was nice.
Bob had left the company by then, so who knows what they were thinking.
Great video! One of your earlier videos made me get a Source...mine's a bit more smashed up than yours though!
cool. thank you :)
die Obertöne sind aber richtig geil. hört man zu Anfang des Videos
Sounds like a super Nintendo vs Sega
want
;)
Klingt gut das Teil,da kann man sich die Nächte um die Ohren hauen.Noch bissel Drum und Vocoder dazu...fein :-)
Ich danke dir. :))
ohne Worte. die zehn Finger Technik.
ohne Worte. it's a Monosynth lol.
8.29 please more . plus vocoder
:D
der sieht auch ein wenig nach einem Utensil aus einem Physiklabor aus :-D
haha
hast du zufällig die "analog disk collection" für den Kurzweil K2000??
very interesting toy...
apart from the membrane buttons :-(
I love membrane buttons. No problems with dust.
aahhha, this is true :-))))
aber 1500€ ist mir der keinesfalls wert. Dann kaufe ich mir lieber 2-3 andere gebrauchte dafür
