Yeah. It’s more the fact that every relationship he’s had has been an absolute train wreck. I like using Apollo as a positive role model for pansexuality, but he seriously sucks at finding someone without them dying, turning into plant life or all of the above.
For all those people who expected Apollo not to be bisexual (who thinks Rick made him that way) : You might want to check out the roots of the word "hyacinth"
I don’t normally comment because I don’t like getting into stuff, but here’s my two cents. Why should somethings normality be determined solely by law? It’s already obvious there are laws that are/were biased against certain people or their circumstance, I really don’t think it’s a very good thing to base someone’s perceived “normality” based on their sexual orientation
@@Jospeh378 there have been gay people throughout the entire history of mankind. There has even been animals that have displayed homosexual behaviour. To base whether being gay is natural or not on a law(which can be changed, or can vary from place to place), is idiotic.
I got my homophobic nana to buy me the complete hardcover boxed set of the trials of Apollo books for Christmas a while ago and she still has no idea lmao. Truly one of my greatest achievements
This just proves how different parents can be towards the LGBTQ+ community. My parents encourage me to read things that have LGBTQ+ characters so I have an open mind to it and don't grow up being homophobic. Whereas parents like this are against it and I don't really see why. People can be who they want to be
My parents don't give a shit about if I read books with LGBTQ+ characters in it. They just want me to be a good person and treat everyone with respect.
I guess this is time to be grateful for my grandma who read through the Percy Jackson, the Heroes of Olympus and the Trials of Apollo series (and obviously really liked it). She talked to me about it so much and literally never mentioned anything about people being gay and Still liked the characters and the plotlines
Clearly, Trials of Apollo is about him being bi and having children with other men, and about his gay son, what other plot points where there really ? 💀
I mean idk there definitely wasn't any deep lessons that children or anyone really can learn from. Like absolutely no themes about being a better person, stop being selfish or any other good moral. Yeah all I saw was Apollo hooking up with other men to create equally as gay children.
@that Tom brady guy maybe in rl it is, but is mythology! like, there are so much thinks that in rl cant happen xd but yeah, in mythology two mens can actually have a baby
@that Tom brady guy no, what i meant is that if they want (two mans) and they're gods or something like that, in the mythology i think that they actually can
What difference does it make that characters are gay? Like there are teens and kids that are LGBTQ+ in the REAL WORLD. These parents need to get their heads straight and get over it, it's 2021. Also, have they seen Solangelo! Nico and Will are too cute to be upset.
I think it’s so stupid that some parents think that kids should be kept away from LGBTQ+ content. It’s so helpful to be educated so you don’t grow up to be homophobic and transphobic, and so you won’t hurt others. I hope that as generations go on, the LGBTQ+ community won’t have to be scared to come out or scared they won’t be accepted. We are getting there but with parents and people like this, it’s going to take a long time.
@Griddy boy When did I say that? Why would I accept a belief that actively is against my existence? You should respect beliefs that aren't harming anyone, is what I think. Homophobia is definitely harming people. You are out of touch, as homophobes do be.
How are people like you seriously real? Anyway, your belief, once again, goes against my very existence and many others. Just because they are YOUR beliefs does not mean they are good, or harmless. I'd be embarrassed if I was you. I won't be responding anymore lol. This is nuts. Hope you become more educated, because your facts are all skewed and you are insanely out of touch. Good luck to ya, bud.
@Griddy boy People's identities are not beliefs, they are NOT a choice. You not accepting and hating on other human beings just for being who they are is also not a belief. It's plain hate. Your beliefs are actively harming another community which just wants to live
Tbh.. I love Representations is one of the many reasons why I love the Riordanverse books.. I mean.. Nico di Angelo made me realize that its safe to let go and just love who I wanna love then ToA finally did it.. It Made me realize that its gonna be okay if I love both boys and girls.. And right now.. I'm here to say that I'm Bi... But only my online friends and some really true real life friends know.. Because though my family say they accept the concept... Its more like they tolerate it. (same with my whole gods dam country) I mean my grandma once said that gay people are using their equality rights to get what they want and is getting spoiled.. But tbh? Here in my country.. The law that provides equality for lgbt is quite fair just yet.. I mean same sex marriage isn't allowed yet? Then one time we watched a movie that has an LGBT team and then showed the pride parade and my grandma looks absolutely disgusted.. Tho she try to hide it.. Not to mention that some people still use "gay" as an insult here.. That's why u can never find myself to finally come out.. You know? Some people are also against that law that provides equality for the lgbt.. And it really is quite stressful. Why can't they just let people be who they wanna be?
Ah yes, two SIDE characters in a gay relationship turned me gay… Wait what? I’m still an asexual omniromantic (you might have to look that up)? But I thought the “gay agenda” Rick was pushing in these books would turn me gay! Seriously though, there is MUCH more of a STRAIGHT agenda than a gay agenda. I literally thought I was straight until I was thirteen because I had never seen gay representation in media. Which is also probably the reason the one girl supposedly felt uncomfortable with it, because we live in a heteronormative society and she had never seen it before. Anyways sorry for the rant lol. i was talking to my dad about toa when i first started reading it, and i mentioned in passing "nico and his boyfriend" and my dad just kinda. looked at me. he was all like "whats the age rating for these books? are you comfortable reading this? no, like, theres two guys dating, are you actually ok with that?" and a bunch of other weird questions like that. i cant wait to see the look on his face when i tell him about alex (p.s: how do i tell him that i myself am gay too? if he reacted that way to 2 fictional guys very briefly stating they were dating, hed react a thousand times worse to me telling him i like boys.)
I'd say just don't tell him. Be yourself, get a boyfriend one day, and wait for him to ask the questions. From what I've seen, coming out does only does the opposite of normalizing queerness. It makes you a spectacle, an abnormality. I made the mistake of coming out to my mom before finding out what her views were, and our relationship has been rocky ever since. From the way your dad reacted to Will and Nico, saying something might not be a good idea. Being queer is just a simple aspect of you being you, and shouldn't feel that you need to reveal it like a big secret. No one goes up to their parents, sits them down, and confesses that they're straight, so you shouldn't feel the need to about being gay
well, for me, I just said one time to my mom that I was lesbian and she started to talk about how bad that is and I just shrugged it off they are your parents they love you so just don't care about what they say and be your true self hiding is not a healthy choice. I hope it goes well!❤
Lol, my dad is gay and I live with him and his boyfriend (such an amazing person) and I love Nico´s relationship with Will so Rick continue like that ;)

Ok, my school is FULL of LGBTQIA+ people, including my friends. I am currently in Grade 8, but in Grade 5 we had a teacher who is openly gay (he's my teacher again this year actually!). Grade 5 is middle school. So what. I have friends who are gay, bi, pan, trans, non binary, asexual, straight, and more. They have been my friends since grade 5, and will still be my friends past then. I will love them no matter what. There should never be an age limit on "finding out about different kinds of people". My friend has 2 moms, plus a step-mom. She is amazing and awesome, no matter her sexuality. SO CHILL HOMOPHOBES!!! Sry about this rant... P.S. I'm almost certain that I'm an Asexual Aromantic, so the only time I was like "ew Apollo why" was when he was having that flashback in the second (i think) book and was like "I remembered how beautiful Commodous looked laying next to me when we were teens." but then again, I would feel the same way if it was Apollo talking about a lady, soooo...
My friend group back in 6th grade managed to probably get all the LGBTQIA+ people in 6th to join; Me: Pan, J: Les, A: Bi, B and D: Ace and Trans, both of them, One who’s name is literally William, looks like Will (curly blonde hair, slightly tanned skin, and freckles) and is also Bi.
Ladies, gentlemen, and nonbinary folks, how would the straights react if we rated straight stories one star because we were afraid it would turn our children straight?
‘gArBaje’ I love it. Also I am in full support if the lgbtq+ community for sure (this is discriminatory, I write lgbtq+fanfic as well) and I have had tons of talks with my parents about the lgbtq + community and they also support it(albeit a little reluctantly) but what my mom was saying was that try to give people some time. They may not have had experiences with friends or family before them and may not know how to deal with it (in the sense they don’t know how to accept it) humans change and soon enough they’ll get with the times. To all those who face scorn for being queer, ❤️ you aren’t alone and if u ever wanna talk, we’re here. (Sorry for my ramble, just putting it out there)
“When secondary characters are in love, they’re pushing their sexuality on you”😂 LMAo that’s my now go to phrase. Watch out Secondary Characters!!! Mama purist bear is out to getcha!
In the trials of apollo (which i think doesnt focus on romance in the way that apollo has a final love interest)his bisexuality doesnt add to the story and his bi panic is treated like if straight person was panicking. In nicos case it fuels his perception that he will never be accepted, it adds to his arc throughout HoO and it forms his relationship with percy from mad love or infatuation to accepting the fact percy is happy with annabeth and in BoO he has fallen out of love by the end of the book.
Homophobia pisses me off so bad. When I read heroes of Olympus i had no idea what homosexuality or any of that was and so I was very confused at the cupid part ( I was around 12 ) My friends had to explain to me what being gay was and I still took a while for me to grasp since I'd never been exposed (?) to it before. Nevertheless now a few years later I'm totally supportive of the LGBTQ community and although I'm not exactly sure what my family thinks about it, my older sister used to thoroughly read book reviews before letting me read them so I'm pretty sure they are fine with it as well.
Personally, solangelo is my favorite ship. They are so cute. And the people that said it doesn't add anything to the storyline, they are a big part of Tower of Nero.
I don't understand why people wouldn't like "a safe space" honestly it made me feel better especially as a closeted bisexual with homophobic parents it's also one of the reasons I subscribed to you
Greek mythology in general is gay at anyway. It's pretty impossible to make a book based on Greek myths and not include some sort of LGBTQ+ stuff. Like I've heard people complain that Apollo being bi is disrespectful, completely forgetting that Hyacinthus and Apollo is in normal Greek mythology.
For me, it's depressing that there are people as petty as these, and I have to say that the video title was very accurate, because I totally lose my mind with all those homophobic reviews.
And THIS is one of the reasons I NEED a saga with Nico as the main character. Not only has Nico been my favorite character since his earth shattering temper tantrum in PJO book three, he's also gay with a sunny ass boyfriend... I NEED IT.
As a person who has always grown up in areas where being gay isn't much of a big deal, I can gaurantee to these parents that exposure to what the concept of what the LGBTQ+ is doesn't mean someone ends up as gay. And, I think it's kind of sad that people actually have that mentallity power washed into their heads. And as a straight person myself, I think exposure to the LGBTQ community can really help your child have more of an open mind. Especially since I myself grew up in a environment where my parents didn't really care whether someone is gay or not. Just seriously, parents are trying to protect their kids in all the wrong ways. You are not protecting your child. You are shielding them from the reality that they will have to face and accept that we are all unique in our own ways.
In my opinion, the LGBTQIA+ community are a group of people brave enough to show their true selves, and that should be celebrated. Also, LET YOUR KID READ WHATEVER THEY GOSH DARN WANT TOO.
I wish I could give this video a hundred likes. Love the way you started it off by making the comments a safe place for sharing and just the way you handled those irrational and homophobic comments so maturely. I probably would have started swearing and losing my mind after the first comment but you debunked each one with humor and facts. This video deserves more likes you are so amazing.
As a middle schooler these kids know and have seen way more worse things then gay relationships it scares me some teachers already banned the house of hades for the fight with Cupid (they haven’t read magnus chase)
I got so annoyed at this video because in Blood of Olympus the book actually says, and I quote: “For a long time,” Nico said, “I had a crush on you. I just wanted you to know.” I mean, if you are homophobic then why did you buy the next book?
Their reactions are so disappointing. I am only a tween but I can't believe that so many people are so dam close-minded. I mean, their children are going to find out one day anyway, and I think it's better if they find out through something like the Trials of Apollo. Some people won't even let their kids read the actual book! Then there's the fact that they would rather have a straight Nico who isn't happy because, well, he's straight. They can't just pretend that there isn't at least a million people who's out there being gay or bisexual or lesbian. It's just sad that some people are like that and have dropped 'Mr. Riordan's' books because of two gay characters. Thank you for listening to my rant.
1:00 I almost cried my parents are like that so I have to keep all of that in secret, because they would NEVER understand, so I could really identify, thank you ❤
My parents don't really care what I read. I love books and I'm constantly asking for more, so that if they tried to know what was in EVERY book I read...Let's just say they wouldn't try.
I can’t believe people like this are still assured and confident enough to publicly post these kinds of comments….like, u would think that people in this day and age would be ashamed of their homophobia and inability to mind their own business, but apparently not.
Came out as Bi this Feb to my mom and cried my eyes out before even completing my sentence because I was so scared. She just stared at me and went "Okay" and then went back to eating dinner. I don't know whether to be elated or disappointed, even now But I guess she does accept me because she always corrects herself whenever she says "husband" and changed it to "Partner" Anyway, I told her about the Cupid scene where Nico Is forced to come out (she doesn't read books of this genre, so I just tell her the story in brief). She blinked at me and said about how she always thought he was fruity with a straight face. Bless her heart, she is trying so hard to use LGBTQ+ phrases
Honestly, my parents are happy that I read books at all. But they‘re always, when I bring LGBTQ+ up, like ˋˋIf they want it to be normalized, they shouldn‘t show it that much´´ or ˋˋI don‘t go to everyone and tell them: Hey, I‘m straight´´. They just don‘t get it. That‘s why I don‘t talk to them about these themes. So, tip for everyone with ignorant parent: Don‘t tell them what your book is about, or just tell them: Yeah, it‘s about mythology
I feel like I got lucky in the age that I was when the gay elements started to be introduced (I was 16 when HoH released). For BoO onward I bought the books for myself instead of my parents buying them for me, so it was only for HoH that I had to worry they would find out I had made them buy me a *gay book* and would be disapproving. I also had started to form my own perspectives on the world separate from my parents beliefs, so I was a bit more open minded instead of just repeating back hard homophobia (I will admit I still had soft homophobia, though). I was also able to see and understand that ToA did have a bit of an agenda, which was helping kids not hate themselves. That's probably easier to recognize and respect when you're grown up looking back at kids at the beginning of puberty and how vulnerable they are, instead of when you are that age and think you and your peers are all grown and mature when you're really not I feel bad for the kids having to live through what I was able to escape
The closest thing to a 'gay agenda' that I'm aware of is people pushing to not receive stupid $#!t like this about their sexuality. Also, Solangelo is probably one of the reasons a lot of people liked these books, along with the as always incredible writing and storyline, because every decent person wants Nico to be happy, and Solangelo happiness makes me happy (and I know I'm not the only one) 🥰🥰🥰
Hi! Do you take requests? If you do, can you fo a video about the double standards in the Percy Jackson fandom? Like how everyone got mad at Annabeth for being jealous of Rachel, but no one got mad at Leo for being jealous of Frank, or everyone getting mad at Annabeth for being mean to Percy, and no one talks about how he was mean to her (for example calling her stupid and laughing at her for wanting to be an architect). I love my babies Percy and Leo but people need to stop acting like they’re perfect. It’s gotten to the point where I begin to think that it’s out of sexism. Not conscious sexism, but like how people just always expect girls to be nice and sweet. It’s ever so slightly downright infuriating.
As a (closeted) lesbian who goes to a catholic school, boy do I have stories. Once I wanted to check out a book from the library but it got banned for having “adult content.” I’ve heard so much about how gayness is spreading in the youth during religion class. As Taylor Swift says “you need to calm down, you’re being too loud.”
My favorite ship of all time is Soanglo!!!!!!!!! I have read the scene in blood of Olympus about 100 times and never get bored. I love Rick for showing kids that they can be whoever they want to be.
“I had trusted Rick riordan to write books for middle schoolers, only to find gay characters.” Im legit in primary school and most people know and accept LGBTQ ppls or characters. So….

I don’t normally comment because I don’t like getting into stuff, but here’s my two cents. Why should somethings normality be determined solely by law? I think it’s so stupid that some parents think that kids should be kept away from LGBTQ+ content. It’s so helpful to be educated so you don’t grow up to be homophobic and transphobic, and so you won’t hurt others. I hope that as generations go on, the LGBTQ+ community won’t have to be scared to come out or scared they won’t be accepted. We are getting there but with parents and people like this, it’s going to take a long time.
@Griddy boy The fact you probably are being 100 percent serious is concerning, but not surprising.

Tbh.. I love Representations is one of the many reasons why I love the Riordanverse books.. I mean.. And right now.. I'm here to say that I'm Bi... But only my online friends and some really true real life friends know.. Because though my family say they accept the concept... Its more like they tolerate it. (same with my whole gods dam country)
I mean my grandma once said that gay people are using their equality rights to get what they want and is getting spoiled.. But tbh? Here in my country.. The law that provides equality for lgbt is quite fair just yet.. I mean same sex marriage isn't allowed yet? Seriously though, there is MUCH more of a STRAIGHT agenda than a gay agenda. I literally thought I was straight until I was thirteen because I had never seen gay representation in media. Which is also probably the reason the one girl supposedly felt uncomfortable with it, because we live in a heteronormative society and she had never seen it before.

(p.s: how do i tell him that i myself am gay too? if he reacted that way to 2 fictional guys very briefly stating they were dating, hed react a thousand times worse to me telling him i like boys.)

Maybe Apollo's bisexuality doesn't add much to the story, but it's true to mythology.
And, I think it's kind of sad that people actually have that mentallity power washed into their heads.

one of my best quotes
That's probably easier to recognize and respect when you're grown up looking back at kids at the beginning of puberty and how vulnerable they are, instead of when you are that age and think you and your peers are all grown and mature when you're really not
I feel bad for the kids having to live through what I was able to escape
