These people are really out here saying that they love mythology and then saying that they don’t like queer stuff 😭 like, did you actually read ANY of the myths???
I didn't like Alex at first mainly because of my first impression about him. However that scene where she just reveals herself and yells 'I want a divorce' is 👏👏
I believe it was actually something about "Thor is mad because Jesus didn't show up to a duel he was challenged to" or something but the point is Jesus was in the books
One of the great things about Rick‘s books has and always will be the fact that the heroes are minorities. Sure in Percy Jackson and the Olympians they were mostly all white and straight but the point was that the demigods were dyslexic and had adhd. That was their representation. Then the Kane‘s added Carter as a protagonist and his skin colour becomes a topic quite often. Heroes of Olympus adds Canadian/Chinese, Latino/Latina, Cherokee characters etc. It just gets better really. Magnus added Gender Fluidity, a deaf Elf and a Muslim girl. Rick has always been about the minorities being heroes and this never changed and I sure hope it never will
And then we get Ester in Daughter of the Deep. First canon character to be on the spectrum. Honestly, i never understood representation until i read that book. Oh yeah, and the fact he made his first canon character to be on the spectrum female made that even better in my eyes.
2:49 Gender-fluidity does fall under the trans umbrella, and while I know some GF people who don't want to label themselves as transgender so clearly it's not a universal thing, Alex is described as transgender several times in the book as well as gender-fluid
I was only skimming the comments and I saw GF people and assumed it meant gluten free 🤣 Was seriously picturing models of people made out of gluten free bread until I read the actual comment
It is mentioned in the 2nd book when Alex is first introduced that Alex is Genderfluid and Transgender "Call me she?" I'm gender fluid and transgender, idiot. Look it up if you need to, but it's not my job to educate-"
isn't it funny how every time a non-white, non-christian, queer etc. character is mentioned/introduced/casted everything is suddenly considered a political agenda?
@@Doomzdeh Dont you think genderfluid people need representation? They do exist you know, like me. If there was no representation like that in books and media, i would forever feel like a freak.
I half expected some rich person to go "HmMM this book offends me because the main character was homeless at one point" because that's how ridiculous the reviews are getting-
My biggest issue with Magnus Chase is the fact that Blitz and Hearthstone are not outwardly stated as a couple!! Like what’s up with that?!?! They act so in love. They’re so protective of each other 🥹 also these books are perfect for me. Like dear old Maggie, I’m lgbt, an atheist, and a leftie would you know. These are some of the best books I have EVER ever read 😊
Same. Like it's stated multiple times that hearthstone smiling a little is the equivalent of screaming in happiness. Then what is hugging blitz super tight and rocking him back and forth or practically tackling him out of a chair in excitement when he saw him? They also act like an old married couple and I find that so adorable.
You know it's okay for guys to be really good platonic friends right? Like I feel like we've reached a point where a lot of people accept that it's okay for guys and girls to be really good platonic friends (finally) and that it's okay for guys to be a romantic couple but for me I always saw them as really really good platonic friends. Cause that's how they're written. Cause that's not Rick wanted them
"The Norse had nothing to do with Islam" Yeah and they probably didnt have anything to do with television but we still have Thor out here talking about watching his favorite shows using his hammer. Because it's about mixing the mythology with modern day America. And modern day America includes a portion of the population being Muslim. So why is "Thor watches Breaking Bad" fine and dandy with them but "Some people happen to be Muslim" is dragging in something unrelated
Actually, I was surprised to learn that a real Muslim named Ahmad ibn Fadlan (the same as Samira’s last name) actually did travel north and hang out with the Rus (aka, a Nordic people), and we know this because he wrote it all down. It’s pretty interesting, although he doesn’t seem to have been all that impressed with their hygiene.
While the comment you're referring to was pretty idiotic I don't think that's a very good defense of it Thor/the other Toddler Gods were easily one of my least favorite parts of the series and I don't think citing them as an example is doing anything for your case
@@professorbutters nope Fadlan is her partners last name, her last name is al-Abbas but that is also a part of Ahmad ibn Fadlans name as from wiki it's apparently in full Aḥmad ibn Faḍlān ibn al-ʿAbbās ibn Rāshid ibn Ḥammād and he is referenced in the books as well
Hey :) just wanted to quickly point out that Alex says that she is both transgender and genderfluid ❤ Thank you for making so much great Riordanverse content!!!
As I was very young I was a little homophobic because my parents are and they teached me to be so. But I walked down my own path and now I am totally supporting LGBTQ+
Honestly I think people not approving of leftist agendas in the books is totally fine Like there are gay people. That is how the world is and it's not even something that's WRONG with the world. But there are SO many people that think it is - such is ALSO just how the world is. So long as there are people with this view, there will also be people unable to read these books or not approving of these books. I really think that's a bigger problem than "Oh my favorite book doesn't have any gay character what ever am I going to do????"
@@samstromberg5593 I have to disagree. Having biases and prejudices is part of human nature, but that doesn't mean it's okay or should be dismissed as "just how the world is". That kind of mentality creates marginalization, stigmatization, poor mental health, and other problems. We humans are flawed, and we should learn to recognize our flaws and work to better ourselves. I don't think people should be shamed or ostracized for having prejudices, but they should be encouraged to unlearn that mentality, not validated in having them. Even if it's for religious or cultural reasons, religious and cultural beliefs and customs are made by flawed humans, often from older times, and can be damaging. Also, I do NOT think catering to people's biases that, like I said, they should work to overcome, is more important than giving marginalized groups representation. I'm not saying every piece of media needs LGBTQ+ representation or that any piece is of lower quality for not having it. I certainly don't think media should be required to include it, as that would only lead to more low-quality representation. However, I do believe that kind of representation should exist somewhere and that people should be allowed to create it if they desire. Representation helps people feel seen, which is especially important when the world around them pretends they don't exist, and introduces people who aren't part of those groups to ways of living outside what they're used to.
@@isobelmiller7464 Okay so first I want to touch on "that kind of mentality creates ... poor mental health". I HEAVILY disagree on this one. I think accepting the world as it is and trying to find the limited light contained is what leads to good mental health. The people you see crying about how they're such victims are usually the ones with poor mental health while the people who accept it and work in spite of it are usually much more successful and much happier (even if it is in the form of delayed gratification). I believe this is the biggest reason for the steep decline in mental health we've seen in recent decades - I'm pretty confident we don't actually have it worse than the Dark Ages (when, if you were born into servitude, there was virtually no chance to escape that life). But they accepted it as life and allowed themselves to have happy moments with their loved ones (probably - I wasn't there, but their su__ide rate was much lower than ours is so clearly their mental health was better). I really think people were happier overall when we were just told to suck it up. Okay, second paragraph I like a lot more. I would like to add the disclaimer that getting people to move beyond an ideology (cultural or religious beliefs) is virtually impossible and I think it's much smarter to pick the battles there's a chance of winning. If you have a reason to disagree with this, though, I would love to hear it. I'd bet we can find common ground on this topic, if nothing else I really am torn on how I feel about paragraph 3. First off, the rainbow mafia is not a marginalized group. The truth is that they are peripheral (in the sense that they are the exception rather than the rule - which is why there's an acronym for it) but are not treated as such. I'm sure you've heard this argument before but if they have a flag. And I do not. That's flown at the White House. Of what is arguably the most influential country in the world. They are not marginalized. And nobody (and certainly not the whole world around them) is pretending that they don't exist. Some people don't like them but many people do and everybody acknowledges their existence, if not their validity. As far as media not being lower quality for including it ... I hesitantly agree. First of all, that's kind of my point; it doesn't really matter if it's lower quality or not, many people perceive it as such. Let's take Lightyear - it wasn't a cinematic masterpiece but let's say it was. They included a lesbian couple that was only onscreen for a few minutes and had zero significance on the overall plot. But because of it, the movie was banned in many countries. Are you seriously going to tell me that you genuinely believe that 2 minute "representation" (which I'll get to in a minute) is more important than entire countries being allowed (legally or just subconsciously*) to enjoy a cinematic masterpiece? *For many people, that clip genuinely did detract from the enjoyment of the movie, myself included. As a general rule, I believe PDA should be kept out of films (not for any objective reason but just because I don't enjoy it) but I think a lot more people agree with me on this one because it wasn't straight. This is kind of a weird way to phrase this but when there's too much PDA in a movie, because it's something I don't like, I'm subconsciously telling myself that I'm not allowed to enjoy it? I really don't think that gets my point across very well but just can't find any way to clean it up. And then my point about representation. Any time I hear that word I just cry inside. What does it even mean? "Helps people feel seen" - why does that matter? I'm allowed to be straight because I'm straight, not because society told me it was acceptable or because my favorite character is. Like sure Hiccup (probably isn't my FAVORITE character but it's really hard to choose a first and he's a lot more well known than a lot of the others I love) is straight yeah but if he wasn't I still would be. And I would still love him. And my straightness would still be valid. Or do you disagree? So I genuinely cannot figure out why everyone is so obsessed with representation. That wasn't meant to be such an essay and a half I feel strongly about this
i love how some of the comments say “there’s nothing in norse mythology about gender fluidity” when one of the biggest norse gods, loki, is literally gender fluid just like alex.
Honestly. I was too young to really understand those books when I read them, so Alex really confused me. But it was due to this series that I was able to view LGBTQ+ in a good light, despite living in an area where it is considered 'forbidden.'
To be very honest, the arranged marriage love angle of Samirah always made me uncomfortable, because I live in a country where arranged marriages are the norm, and marriages are not very happy, and I always hated the concept of them. Especially since, well, they were 17.
I think the Magnus Chase series unironically has my favorite representation in media. Like obviously I like Blitzstone, but I mean the CANON rep. (Rant incoming) Homelessness, being treated as less than a person because you're on the streets, the mental war that comes with having a disability, being outcasted because of a disability/treated as less than because of having a disability, Being Muslim and their practices, being treated like a terrorist because of your religion and having to actively prove yourself every day, being over pressured, feeling "wrong" and "different" because of your interests, feeling like a failure as a person because you're not like everyone else, dealing with the loss of a parent, (arguably) having a narcissistic/toxic parent, having to face your phobias, (arguably) PTSD, the way manipulation can break you, etc. And i haven't even gotten to the second book yet. I'm genderfluid myself, and there is SO much I could say about the way they captured Alex and the way they showed Magnus coming to terms with how he might be queer. And, again, this is just the main cast. There's still the side characters! HELL, EVEN THE SWORD EXPLORES ABANDONMENT ISSUES XD
Fellow genderfluid person here! When Alex was introduced I was literally screaming because I'd never seen genderfluid representation before. In my mind she is the definition of gender envy and I love him for it.
4:23 i am cis, straight and white, but i am a woman with aspenger syndrom. I love when you reply to these coments because since i was little i hated this type Of thing and i have a Lot of relative that are homophobic, racist etc. For my luck, my parants put me away of them. This taught me about the minority, myself and How respect the difference
As a Muslim I love Samirah and I really connect with her character. Rick did his research on Islam and although it’s not 100% accurate it’s still good.
When you realize the ship of the dead also means Alex and Magnus bc Well everyone shipped them as soon as Alex showed up And they are both dead So in the third book the ship sailed Therefore the title has two different meanings
Hey can’t wait for another video it’s going to be great I love this topic it’s so funny I love your videos so much btw there always welcome after a stressful day at school
My father went and read all of the Riordanverse books to understand my stuff and while he's nowhere near as obsessed as I am, he likes them. My maternal grandmother would not approve if she knew though.
I love the Magnus Chase books. Samaria taught me more about Muslims, Alex gave me someone to relate to, and Magnus made me laugh. There was so much I loved. Making Alex gender fluid was a good detail considering Loki was in the original Norse mythology. There is so much more that simply can not be put into words. This book series was my second favorite (the original was my absolute favorite). Quick question, why are so many people in the reviews hating on Sam? Her, Alex, and Magnus are my favorite characters. Just because Sam was Muslim doesn't mean she a bad character. Is she a badass character, yes, but bad, no.
@@Unclaimeddemigod That's true. I mean, I believe in God, and Sam in on of my favorite characters in the whole Riordan verse. And Muslims believe in the same God we do, he just goes by a different name. I think it's just unnecessary hate.
@sophie_i_guess idk if your Christian but if you are yea we (Muslims) believe in your God we just don't believe that hes a god but a prophet. If you compare Christianity and Islam side by side you will see many similarities
i’m currently reading Sword of Summer so the second the first review said that “You can’t even read 2 pages with gay” i paused the video and read the first two pages of the book, gay people aren’t even mentioned. I’ve gotten half through the book and gay is yet to be mentioned
@@denagabbitas5127 Not exactly. Aside from talk about a "fruity edge", the only mention we get of his sexuality is when Alex kisses him while male. Magnus realizes he's been kissed by a guy and doesn't know what to think of it, then he decides he doesn't care, since it's still Alex. That's it.
hey! just so you know, the word transgender is a umbrella term for anyone who doesn’t identify as their birth gender :) so yes, alex is trans, bc she’s a transfem genderfluid person! ps: i love this book series so much and was giggling the entire video
As a Muslim myself, I would like to say that I did NOT like Samirah's character at all AT FIRST. It felt like Rick had bitten off more than be could chew. Her explanation of why she wore hijab was horrid, and I didn't understand why she was still Muslim when she knew that pagan deities existed. She used terms like "mosque" instead of Masjid and "peace be upon him" instead of the Arabic meaning, "sallalahu alayhi wa sallam" both words that we never use amongst ourselves, but non-Muslims do. (Most consider "mosque" an offensive term, actually, since its derived from the word "mosquito") Plus, she felt like a walking, talking Arab stereotype. But in the SECOND book... It was like a switch flipped. It was as if Rick heard all of my criticisms of her and just rewrote her character based off that. Unlike in the first book, I could TELL that Rick did his research on Islam (even though he made Sam pray like a man 💀- it's the thought that counts). I loved her explanation for why she still believed in Allah. I loved his description of the calm feeling you get when you pray, and of course, that post-fast bliss. I loved how, instead of making fasting an obstacle for her, he instead used it to show just how strong she really was. Rick *actually* managed to add a wonderful, surprisingly realistic hijabi protagonist in a world centered around pagan deities. I went from hating her, to genuinely thinking that she is one of the best Muslim rep that I've come across. Oh and Blitz and Hearth are totally married in the end, and you can't convince me otherwise. Magnus canonically said that Hearth needing Blitz was a universal fact.
I got a little scared at first I'm also Muslim and absolutely loved Samira, I binged the series so and I was also pretty young when I read it so I didn't really care about characters personality that definitely made a difference by yeah thanks to whoever read my mini rant.
Yea when I bought Heartstopper my mom went thought the pages and was like why did u buy a “GAY BOOK” and I had to use a lame excuse that I needed them for the other books , and so with magnus chase and , TOA I knew there was lgbtq in it so I just didn’t tell them abt it cause I knew she wasn’t going to read them but it hard like I want to but more lgbtq books but if she finds out is gonna be a whole lecture .
someone complaining about gender fluidity/homosexuality in a Norse mythology book, doesn't know to much about Norse mythology. Loki gave birth to a actual horse and they're complaing about HOMOSEXUALITY.
Just wanted to say that, as a genderfluid person, we technically do fall under the trans/non-binary umbrella. In this case, it could have been used as more of a catch-all term for gender nonconforming people. Apart from that one small nitpick, I really enjoyed the video!
Hello kid of Christian parents and is a Christian, I am totaly ok with these books. Rick is such an awesome writer, and I am so sad that if my parents knew they would not aprove😔
I love that rick riordan's books are more inclusive! I came from a very religious family (and was raised to be lgbtphobic, basically), it was books like Riordan's that made me see out of my family view of world.
love ur vids!! just wanted to point out tho that genderfluid is under the trans umbrella (though some gendefluid ppl don't label themselves as trans). and alex says when she's introducing herself in the hammer of thor that she's genderfluid and transgender!
I'll admit, Im not on the left, but who the fuck cares about Alex being Genderfluid? Seriously? I was a kid when I read these books, I didn't even know that genderfluid was a real thing. I just thought it meant that they changed sex literally, (which is what Alex and Loki literally do) but now I know genderfluid people do exist, they just change gender, not sex. Honestly, I could not care less, Alex is my favourite character in the entire series, and is one of the best written GF characters in fiction. And having read the comments on this video, Alex has helped a ton of people accept themselves! The hate for Alex is unjust and blatantly trannsphobic in this regard. The hate for Sam is also ridiculous. Shes an amazing character, I don't have as much to say about this as there is nothing to say. There is nothing wrong with muslims. They're among the three biggest religions in the world. 99% of the muslims I have met are good characters. Homophobia is utterly stupid and I hate homophobes. Nothing more to say. Overall, people get angry at trans people because they think they could be grapists, perverts, pdf files. People have no right to be mad at Alex. They have been written as a good character, and thats where you know the people hating on them are actually just transphobic, because they cannot except ANY trans characters. Thats where they are blatantly bad people. Christians get mad at muslims when reading a fucking NORSE MYTHOLOGY BOOK. Homophobia of ONE SCENE. Thats ridiculous. Yeah, the bad reviews on this book are mainly just cunts being horrible people.
You are so stupid for saying that I believe in my religion so I’m homophobic I guess for believing in my religion I have an Muslim friend and she also doesn’t believe in that because she dis believing in her religion.

I HATE when people say having a different religion is bad. I always thought it was cool that there was an character who viewed the Norse gods as "powerful beings"
My parents are super homophobic. I read House of Hades when I was 12 - Nico coming out made me realize that I was bisexual. Without Rick writing about queer characters, I may have ended up super homophobic myself. Forever grateful for his "leftist agenda".

If anyone wants some not exactly muslim representation but muslim inspired culture in a fantasy story I can’t recommend the summoner series enough it is so good. And Taran Matharu the author is the king of suspense and cliffhangers. Not to mention the plans, the intelligence and a sprinkling of political scheming. It’s a great series.
Gets even worse if you search for Wings of Fire on the 13th book. These dudes were seriously trashing the books and ranting about demon propaganda because 2 female DRAGONS touched tails, exactly as it sounds. The nerve.

my parents have said they hate rick riordan bc of nico and they would probably have a heart attack if they knew ab alex 😭 i love the books sm and honestly if these people are so homophobic and transphobic, they rly don’t deserve to read these books.
I like Will, Nico’s boyfriend, a little bit more than Nico (I mean, how can you NOT love Mr. Sunny), but I don’t think that’s their problem with it. They’re going to lose it when the next novel, The Sun and the Star, comes out, because that’s all about Nico and Will.
the funny thing to me is that every single character in my book is LBGTQ+ and they are either pagen or atheists so i wanna see the reviews to my bool when it comes out and i wanna see how many schools its ban in. and i will die in the hill that alex is the best charactar.
@@ello7645 I know! That's why I read books in English. Russian version: 'I'm sorry for my friend' 'Will?' 'Would you prefer to be called something else?'
It's weird how I read the trilogy a couple times and neither the Islamic nor the LGBTQ representation seemed to be taking anything away from the real story to me. This is still a very exciting fantasy series about Norse myths where the characters happen to have represented real people.
As a test to see how truthful these comments were, I wasted 3 minutes of my life flipping to ten random pages in the Ship of the dead (I didn't have Hammer of Thor) and the horrors of the GF word were mentioned once. That one time was the first time Alex was mentioned.
Okay, they say they read the PJO, HoO, ToA. But literally, in heroes of Olympus, and Trials of Apollo, they talk about gays. But they are only offended by Magnus Chase. Please explain?
I know that no character in Riordan's world has Jewish or Christian has part of them(Hazel and Nico are conservative, because 1940s,but not religious),would these ppl complain if that was a neat detail?
I'm Christian but still love them! That's because I know that the Greek myths are just myths. So it doesn't bother me and one of my friends is trans. It doesn't matter! As long as there nice!
He got a stonewall award for the second book and I couldn’t be more proud! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Rick Riordan is one of the most inclusive straight white cis male authors ever and he is magnificent at it. He’s impactful and well known and needed!
That is what I love about Rick's books. Not all of his characters are straight. Nico is gay, for example. He is teaching younger audiences to respect sexualities and I love that about his writing.
My friend started reading the Percy Jackson books but when he found out Nico was gay he stopped reading them and since I loved them he stopped being my friend😔
Idk about you but me personally (a gender fluid person) I consider me self transgender, because YES I do go by she but I ALSO do by he and they but maybe that’s just me
I'm white, agnostic, straight, cis, male, Scottish and autistic, so I often feel under-represented in the last two stated aspects of my identity. So, when I see other under-represented groups getting positive representation, I usually think to myself "oh... good for them!" So, with all the positive representation of under-represented groups in Magnus Chase, I was thinking to myself "oh... good for them!" It's a shame a lot of these reviewers had a much more negative reaction to me.
does anybody else think that sams character was kind of screwed up? if she's a valkerie, serving odin. wouldn't that be direct shirk? it's pretty contradictory imo.
She explains this. She had to do some soul-searching at first but eventually came to the conclusion that the Norse gods are not actually deities. They're powerful beings but still creations of Allah, just like her.
what bothers me with the fact that she's muslim is that she's specifically muslim instead of being an arabic believer of THE God who also apparently exist in this universe (just like it would bother me if an angel is specifically christian rather than a servant of this absolute being that would exist in this setting).. Considering what and who she is, she should know better what kind of Being Allah is, she should have some insight that religious authorities don't have, she should have more insight than the ppl that wrote the Quran or the bible or whatever abrahamic religious book.. I don't think any of these character can be christian or jew or muslim without it being problematic, they should know better..
I'm from a country where it isn't hard to hear people say things like gay people should just die or that they aren't human beings it is ingrained into our brains from childhood so showing support to LGBT is a big no no and I don't think that will change any time soon. All my family members make homophobic statements on a daily basis and I'm sick of it but there isn't anything I can do about it
Como uma pessoa pode falar que não gosta porque é "politicamente correto"???????? Nada faz sentido. Eles preferem que as crianças leiam coisas politicamente... incorretas? Nunca vou entender a mentalidade dessas pessoas, realmente.
So IIRC in the second book Alex stated that she was AMAB, and when she identified as a girl she specifically identified as a trans girl? I’d have to go grab my copy of the book to double check, though.
I don't think they assume the characters are atheist because not stating the religion doesn't ,mean they are, and a lot of the more extreme Christians also believe atheists go to hell
I agree with your take on almost the entire video. However around 3:00 in you say that there are no transgender characters in the book. And I just have to correct you. Technically all non conforming gender identity in relation to assigned gender at birth(NB, GF, Demigirl/boy ect.) Are under the umbrella term transgender.
Unpopular Opinion: Samirah is better than Alex and the best character in the series. Also, people need to stop calling her Sam. It takes away the culture and meaning.
@@safiyyanazim idk, I just loved her more than Alex. Also, everyone hyped Alex up for me, but when I read the book I was like, “Okay? Samirah’s better?”
She is referred to as Sam more often in the books likely due to the fact that it’s shorter. That’s like saying people should stop calling Perseus, Percy
Here's what I don't get. Why do people who don't like LGBTQ+ people not want to talk to their kids about it? Wouldn't their kids be more likely to share the parents opinion if it's brought up at a younger age? In that case I'm glad about the homophobes who don't share their opinions with their kids.

"Call me she?" I'm gender fluid and transgender, idiot. Look it up if you need to, but it's not my job to educate-"
isn't it funny how every time a non-white, non-christian, queer etc. character is mentioned/introduced/casted everything is suddenly considered a political agenda?
exactly,
when they are just people
Its political because its not enough to come out of the closet. You have to clap for them and enthusiastically approve and support them, or else!!!
I mean, considering how Alex is portrayed in the books, it’s pretty clear that it’s political pandering. Even if you do like Alex.
@@Doomzdeh Dont you think genderfluid people need representation? They do exist you know, like me. If there was no representation like that in books and media, i would forever feel like a freak.
yeah it's funny in a sad way
I half expected some rich person to go "HmMM this book offends me because the main character was homeless at one point" because that's how ridiculous the reviews are getting-
This is making me cackle and I’m not even supposed to be watching this 😂😂😅
@@YuenyuenHong-xi3rpwhy aren‘t you supposed to be watching this?
Magnus literally talks about stealing from rich people "if your driving a fansy car you can afford to by me a pizza"
YASSS Like Blitzstone need to be C A N N O N !!!
Same. Like it's stated multiple times that hearthstone smiling a little is the equivalent of screaming in happiness. Then what is hugging blitz super tight and rocking him back and forth or practically tackling him out of a chair in excitement when he saw him? They also act like an old married couple and I find that so adorable.
I saw someone else say that it's because the books are from Magnus's perspective, and Magnus is ridiculously oblivious in so many ways
Idk I think it's just their relationship is the way it is and doesn't need to fit into traditional labels?
While the comment you're referring to was pretty idiotic
I don't think that's a very good defense of it
Thor/the other Toddler Gods were easily one of my least favorite parts of the series and I don't think citing them as an example is doing anything for your case

As I was very young I was a little homophobic because my parents are and they teached me to be so. But I walked down my own path and now I am totally supporting LGBTQ+
Same
And now I can be okay with the fact that I'm bi
Honestly I think people not approving of leftist agendas in the books is totally fine
Like there are gay people.
I'd bet we can find common ground on this topic, if nothing else
I really am torn on how I feel about paragraph 3.

(Rant incoming)
Homelessness, being treated as less than a person because you're on the streets, the mental war that comes with having a disability, being outcasted because of a disability/treated as less than because of having a disability, Being Muslim and their practices, being treated like a terrorist because of your religion and having to actively prove yourself every day, being over pressured, feeling "wrong" and "different" because of your interests, feeling like a failure as a person because you're not like everyone else, dealing with the loss of a parent, (arguably) having a narcissistic/toxic parent, having to face your phobias, (arguably) PTSD, the way manipulation can break you, etc. And i haven't even gotten to the second book yet. I'm genderfluid myself, and there is SO much I could say about the way they captured Alex and the way they showed Magnus coming to terms with how he might be queer.

@@staeriix I think its kinda like a regular job for her. Not serving Odin in the sense that you serve Allah. (saying this as a Muslim myself)
I read the first 4 chapters and it was amazing
Yay! Keep reading 📖
what bothers me with the fact that she's muslim is that she's specifically muslim instead of being an arabic believer of THE God who also apparently exist in this universe (just like it would bother me if an angel is specifically christian rather than a servant of this absolute being that would exist in this setting)..
Funny, but not funny: ha ha. Funny: I can’t believe people really think that way
Little does my homophobic grandpa knows hes buying me gay books mehehehehehhehehehMWAHAHAAHAHAHAH😂😂😂😂
It gets better when you realise that all of these tings are included in all of these mythologies
I became more accepting and got a better understanding of the lgbtq community due to alex
I'm from a country where it isn't hard to hear people say things like gay people should just die or that they aren't human beings it is ingrained into our brains from childhood so showing support to LGBT is a big no no and I don't think that will change any time soon. All my family members make homophobic statements on a daily basis and I'm sick of it but there isn't anything I can do about it
I’m so sorry it’s like that where you live, that really sucks, I hope you’re doing well 🩵
@@Unclaimeddemigod thanks
Ifk if this relates, but what religion did Nico and Hazel grow up knowing? Since they were both from like the 30-40's and were taught diffirently
@@LivesInHerBooks According to Trials of Apollo, Nico grew up Catholic.
Me as a child loving both Percy Jackson and Magnus Chase hearing all of this thinking like: Wtf, wdym inappropriate, did I miss something?
Who’s gonna tell them how gay Norse mythology is? The amount of times Loki got pregnant too?
Unpopular Opinion: Samirah is better than Alex and the best character in the series.
Also, people need to stop calling her Sam. It takes away the culture and meaning.
?????????? why??
@@safiyyanazim idk, I just loved her more than Alex. Also, everyone hyped Alex up for me, but when I read the book I was like, “Okay? Samirah’s better?”
That's your opinion and totally valid. Though why don't you want people to call her Sam?
She is referred to as Sam more often in the books likely due to the fact that it’s shorter. That’s like saying people should stop calling Perseus, Percy
@@ayushithakkar5926 yeah i can understand that but why cant people call her sam?
Here's what I don't get. Why do people who don't like LGBTQ+ people not want to talk to their kids about it? Wouldn't their kids be more likely to share the parents opinion if it's brought up at a younger age? In that case I'm glad about the homophobes who don't share their opinions with their kids.
I am really trying to get started on Magnus Chase
Please please tell me why I should read it!!!
I really want to but I just can't get into it
It is a very fun series, the characters are enjoyable, the plot is interesting, and the humor is ON TOP
But if you don’t support lgbtq community then don’t read it@@justalittleme
I am Muslim and I don’t care about someone being gay I just don’t think it is right I’m not going to say I hat something just because someone is gay
If you don't mind me asking, how accurate was Samirah's representation as a Muslim? Do you think it accurately reflected the religion and culture?
@@Amatureb at 2:15 she said that most people talking about these religions that don’t like gays are Christians I think could be right since in my country specifically people don’t care if someone is gay or transgender they just think it is bad and they won’t badmouth it but that is from my perspective
All of the people who said "I love norse mythologie, but...", like have you even read any mythologie? (Loki)
The message this video is sending is that some people are just dumb. And I wholeheartedly agree.
I just felt so dam happy seeing blitzstone and fierrochase cuz it wazs just awesome to finally have lgbtq+a represented correctly. It was a hela of a trilogy. Thx for just proving how wrong these heras are!
you should do heartstopper (if you havent already)
No no no absolutely inappropriate especially if you don’t support the lgbtq community like me.
@@Ytvyfrtucttufvtuctyfcftyctfyv that’s fine if you don’t support these are my beliefs ok :)
I'm pretty sure someone else has said this already, but the reviews that say those people loved the PJO and HOO books but then hated the Magnus Chase series because of LGBTQ+ stuff, like, did those people read about Nick being gay, or did they just conveniently forget? 🤔🙄😒 It's a little ridiculous, honestly.
