      @@SarahNicholls, you keeping hammering on the same point over and over again. Simple life, slow life, love life, self love..... all this is very much needed for me because I have spent 43 years of my life running after the wrong things. Finally, someone like you comes around and tells me that whatever I am is good enough and I should live life for myself not spend it meeting the world's expectations. Had you not hammered this point in my head, I dont know where I would be today. Thank you!

    Thanks, self-care is more than putting on a face mask or writing in a journal with a calligraphy pen. For those of us who are exhausted, we need much more than some fancy label clothing to cheer us up.

      Hah! Tell me about it. That expensive calligraphy class and expensive things did not help with my mental health Saying NO to toxic people (colleagues), nutritious food, good sleep, warm shower and solitude are priceless! ❤

    Showering more than once per week. Eating healthy meals and snacks. Getting outside an hour per day (or 2 1/2 hours, or 3 -4 10-15 minute jaunts). Exercising: biking, dancing, tennis, kayaking… swimming, horseback riding… being honest with myself and others, improving or maintaining my integrity.
    Journaling my feelings.
    Meditating.
    Reading the Bible.
    Reading novels.
    Taking some sort of course: cooking, blogging, history… traveling, updating my kids’ passports… financially taking care of myself. Decluttering my home, cleaning it. Shopping! As a reward, not over shopping as therapeutic escape into a life I wish I had rather than serving the one I’m actively cultivating. Rest. Resting. An evening routine. Chamomile tea. A bath with epsom salts. Taking my kids out for fun days and vacations to enjoyable places, fun! Seeing and talking to the best old friends once per week each! Calling my mom every day. Gifting for those I love more thoughtfully and planning those well in advance. Attending and being an active church member. Meeting new people and being more open to new friend in our new small town…playing piano or guitar or making music for 20 minutes per day. Practicing as praise. Learning a new language. Chinese, French, Russian… Spanish review.
    Planning a trip to El Salvador…
    I have more bigger dreams that I long for and try for but fail so much slipping under the daily requirements for survival. Can’t seem to gain traction on the bigger things when making doctors appointments and managing calendars for the family as an ADHD mom against ever changing insurance rounds.
    Emotional safety. I used to be so great at this.
    “Making your home Cozy”.
    Has been on my list over a year already.
    Connecting rituals with each kid around their interests.
    Learning to delegate and manage more than task.

      do u really shower once a week ?

    • @brightpage1020
      @brightpage1020 3 місяці тому

      @@goddessphumi nah. 2, maybe 3 times. We have a 40 acre farm providing local produce year round, 4 children (one with special needs), 8 chickens, a dog, and 2 side hustles. My bedtime is between 12-1 am and my wake time is 5-6 am. I prioritize sleep. I could wake at 4 instead and shower then but my body disagrees. Because I’m the mom so I’m cooking, laundering, doing errands, dishes, calling vets, groomers, managing doc appointments, treatments, therapies… boo-boos, managing behavior (my own and my children’s), activities… my production schedule for my 2 side hustles and helping my husband with the farm.
      I could and should but I’m beat. Soon, we’ll be able to get more help, like next year, and I look forward to that.
      Summers by the lake my extended family visits and that’s my time to shine up. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins… all chillaxing on the lake together (northern Michigan). We offload the kids to them to catch up with stuff for us. It’s great. 👍
      We may have overextended ourselves, but this is how we learn to go above and beyond our comfort zones to see what we are capable of achieving. It’s an important and valuable example for our children.
      We moved here a couple years ago from the desert… because things grow here (and crime in CA got too bad to raise a family in for us).
      We bought cash paid for this land and we aim to work it. No mortgage was a big risk and we knew it would be tight… so we signed up for it.
      I really can’t complain. It’s a great life out here. Keeps us out of trouble and will help steer the kids as they become teens in a few years towards responsibility instead of away from it, if we do things right, here.
      Weight of the world is on those kids. We want them to have fun with it.
      Priorities.
      If I have to skip a day or two of showers to sleep it’s worth it.

    Something I’ve struggled with recently, does anyone have advice? So this year has been the worst for me mentally and physically and i kind of lost all support from friends? And when i spoke to one friend recently she just mentioned how she felt she was trying a lot to make me happy when we last hung out but off if im struggling I wasn’t my old happy carefree self. And i read a quote recently smth like if you can share my wins then you can share my pain? Something like that. Idk i feel like bad obviously people dont want to be around sad people but shouldn’t my friends support me? Are they friends if they only want to see me when im happy? Idk if i explained that well :(

    I'm not a doctor, but a midwife, so still feel I can relate. I only work night shifts and have done so for the past 6 years, and I start to feel it. I've been so exhausted I almost haven't been able to get out of bed. I've always known night shifts are not exactly good for my health, but it has worked out so well as I have been able to be there for my children when they need me. I'm now on my way to declutter the entire house, prioritizing sleep, nutrition and exercizing. I also try to make time for my hobbies guilt free. I feel a lot better, but I still slip from time to time where I get overwhelmed. Videos like these are empowering, and I get lots of value from them.

    • @SarahNicholls
      @SarahNicholls  3 місяці тому +6

      It's such a difficult conundrum with the night shifts because they can fit so nicely around your schedule and the pay can be good, but they really take their toll. I've worked night shifts for years, and similar to you, I did a few years of exclusively doing nights. After my stepdad passed away and I had some time off to grieve, I realised just how much of a toll they were taking on my physical and mental health and I decided to take a step back from them and change my work schedule. I've honestly never felt healthier, but my bank account took a big hit!! I hope you find something that works well for you ❤️

    I really liked the way you broke down the hierarchy of needs, especially the way you talked about safety and how you articulated it in things like boundaries and toxic people, environment. Because I think sometimes all these things are often talked about individually like "you need to work on your boundaries" for stress etc, but seeing how it fits into the basic hierarchy was the "ah" moment 😂. I am going to read that book the mountain is you as well. Thanks Sarah!
