I hate it when I hear a parent say be nice. Tell them to be kind gentle honest careful respectful patient. Name ethical character qualities you want them to disply not just inoffensive or impotent.
As a people we are all pretty much in the "guilty" category of trivializing our personal sin our personal willingness to lie, cheat or steal because we think we're immune to consequences and post modernist thinking conveys to us.." ahh so what I think I'm still okay" and pass it off. I know I'm guilty I know many in my church are guilty..it's how we process all this in terms of good biblical grounding to understand when I feel as if I know the answer and I truly don't. I have to go to the Word to seek God personally and seek forgiveness from him and not pass on judgment to others or my background etc.

Mchristr, some people ONLY find hope in strict Christian doctrine - and I honestly respect that. How does a preacher know EXACTLY what God wants him to preach about? Just pray hard enough until he gets exactly the right thoughts and feelings?
