Maybe the best articulated, thorough presentation and explanation of the Gospel I've ever heard. Dr. Horton has certainly been gifted by the Holy Spirit to teach.
Thank you brother Michael for delivering the clearest, most comprehensive, presentation of the gospel I've ever heard! Oh the importance of grasping the gospel not just ONCE, but again and again...!
The works of a true convert are not an attempt to impress God. But are a manifestation of a broken contrite humbled sinner, who is astonished at the foot of Calvary's Cross, the divine work of mercy towards those who could never help themselves.
The discussions on Romans by the White Horse Inn team have helped to resolve my turmoil about the nature of the Christian gospel more than anything else I have listened to. Many thanks, Michael.
Thank you Michael for telling us the truth about salvation found in Roman's. We need to have the true gospel spelled out to us in the way you are doing.
The old covenant mentality will always block The New Covenant Reality!!!! But that old covenant mentality is the number one tool of the spirit of deceit. Remember, it is The Truth (Jesus) that set you free, period!!!! Great message Pastor Horton.....
OK, kudos to Mike Horton. His gospel presentation starting at around minute 35 is really good. I love the Lutheran view that simply would state the gospel as “Christ died for our sins” or “Christ died as a substitute for us and by his perfect life and obedience fulfilled the righteous requirements of the law in our stead and this righteousness is ours through faith”. That said, I have to admit in this video Horton is every bit as good as a Lutheran preacher.
I have been a Christian since 2003 but this year I have been asking myself. What is the Gospel. And if the church doesnot know that is why the church is in trouble. Why is Jesus came to seek and save the lost not good enough anymore please God help us amen
When Adam tried to turn the blame to Eve, he was really saying it was God's fault for creating her in the first place. There is SO much to the third chapter of Genesis than what first met my eyes.
If you are still relying on your own obedience to God's commands as the means by which you will be accepted by Him then you need to not only listen to the message again but focus on those parts of Romans which make you squirm until you realize that acceptance with God only comes to the ungodly by grace through faith. The result of this is obedience (Rom 12:1-2). Jesus Christ's sacrifice alone turns aside the wrath of God, we cannot add to that but can only trust in it and God will transform us.
This was an outstanding gospel presentation. Christ dying for the wicked, for the ungodly, Christ offered freely, the only condition being that we be wicked and work not (to earn our salvation). This is the gospel where Christ is exalted and man humbled, it is the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is so many times that I have heard calvinists say God died for his people or that the gospel is God's plan of redemption for his people, which may be theologically sound doctrine, but it has nothing to do with the gospel. Horton has been guilty of this in the past, but not in this presentation, where he clearly stated that that the gospel is for sinners, the wicked, and the ungodly, the gospel was offered to all men as it should (without making any distinction between elect and reprobate, I don't recall the word elect being used even once in this video !, which is remarkably good preaching taking into account many calvinists are unable to stick to the gospel as Horton did here)
Everybody, at times, broadens the gospel beyond its core definition, it's not just Calvinists. I don't know why you feel the need to only call them out. I grow so weary of people trashing Calvinism because they don't like the doctrine of election. Just because our postmodern, expressive individualistic culture doesn't like the idea of election doesn't make it false. We are so steeped in the idea of "free will" that we can't for one second tolerate the idea that our will is in complete bondage to sin, as Martin Luther so clearly points out in his Heidelberg disputation, thesis 13. It states "free will, after the fall, exists in name only, and as long as it does what it is able to do it commits mortal sin". Lutheran scholar Gerhard O. Ford put it this way in his book about Luther's Heidelberg disputation "on being a theologian of the cross": "the problem is that we can't stand the idea of someone actually above us. We can't accept an electing God. We will not will it. Thus, regarding that which is truly above us, the will is not free but bound. Not forced - no one forces us to say no - we are just bound to do it!"
The gospel is that we can be redeemed (by grace) from the death penalty we have each earned for our past sins. This redemption was made available when Jesus gave His life as a ransom for us, making a payment of our death penalty available for us. Redemption is granted IF we'll come to God and repent, turning from separation from God, turning from sin that earned us the death penalty in the first place. Grace continues: if we'll abide in Him, Jesus will lead us out of slavery to sin. At Jesus' return God will resurrect us and save us from ever perishing in death by granting us the gift of eternal life. Then we'll inherit the Kingdom of God. That's the gospel of grace. You will not find a better opportunty, and YOU could be there, a member of the Father's eternal family. But without repentance we will surely perish, unredeemed, as the penalty for our sins. That's why Jesus warned, "except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." After humanity comes to the end of its rope, reaping the fruits of its choice to live apart from God, Jesus will return. When Jesus returns He and His elect will rule the Kingdom of God right here on earth, teaching all mankind God's way: the path to peace and love. It was for this that Jesus prayed "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." That's the gospel of the Kingdom of God. some scriptures: "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (the apostle Paul, in Romans 6:23). "Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many" (Jesus, in Matthew 20:28). "John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins" (Mark 1:4). "And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem" (Jesus, in Luke 24:47). "And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent" (Paul, in Acts 17:30). "He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy" (Proverbs 28:13; mercy: in forgiveness and redemption). "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9). "Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish" (Jesus, in Luke 13:4,5). "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God" (Paul, in Ephesians 2:8. We can be redeemed - saved from our death penalty for past sins - by grace. The grace is received _through_ faith, not just because we _have_ faith. It is _through_ faith that we can make the critical choice, to _come to God_ in repentance): "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him" (Hebrews 11:6). "As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent" (Jesus, in Revelation 3:19. Jesus' work is not finished: right now He is creating sons and daughters for the Father's eternal family. He is the potter, we are the clay . . . if we continue in repentance, willing to change as He leads us. This is how He leads us out of slavery to sin.) The relationship with Him "yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby" (Hebrews 12:11). --------- "And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him" (Luke 8:1). "And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever" (Daniel 2:44). "And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more" (Isaiah 2:4). "And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed" (Daniel 7:14). "They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea." "Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years" (Revelation 20:6. The first resurrection is at Jesus' return; they are resurrected with eternal life, just as Jesus was). "Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom" (Jesus, in Luke 12:32). "Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world" (Jesus, in Matthew 25:34). "For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace" (David, in Psalms 37:10,11). "Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth" (Jesus, in Matthew 5:5).
The message of the gospel is that we are dead in sins, and that we are cut off from life because of our sinfulness, and that we are under the condemnation of God, which means death. And in our helplessness, Jesus came and took upon Himself our ruined humanity, killed it on the cross, buried it in the grave, and raised it to new life in His resurrection. And when we surrender ourselves to God, in faith, we become sealed with the Father's promise of the Holy Spirit, who unites us with Christ in His death and His resurrection. The good news of the gospel is that we have died to our old life of sin and death, and have been raised to new life by God in Jesus Christ. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23
The simple answer is that God uses means to accomplish his ends. We pray BECAUSE we believe that God is sovereign in salvation. If he wasn't, then we would be praying to a God who could only try to answer our prayers.
We pray because we do not who the elect are; only God knows that information. God ordains the ends as well as the means to bring about His soverign will. We pray and evangelize in obedience to the Lord's commands, He commands the fruit.
@@Pastormichaelhuffman This Calvinist view of salvation has problems. The elect are those that have elected to believe the gospel. Believe in Jesus as your only savior for heaven is the gospel. It is a free gift, salvation through Christ is the gift.
This Calvinist view of salvation has problems. The elect are those that have elected to believe the gospel. Believe in Jesus as your only savior for heaven is the gospel. It is a free gift, salvation through Christ is the gift. We share the message and yes we ask God to touch them as well as we talk to those that need salvation. Be wise. It is a free gift, not of any works. To often works are inserted as in: give your heart to Christ, make Him Lord of your life, repent of sins, etc. The point of salvation is to simply believe it to be true, that Jesus paid for it all. You are forgiven, and now Gods' child. John 1, John 3, Romans 3, Romans 4, Ephesians 1 Ephesians 2, Acts 16.
Wonderful message! I need to think long and hard about this. So how would you describe sanctification? I had a Pastor once who said “Salvation is a free gift but you have to work to keep it.” Obviously not correct yet there is a work a cooperation of sorts.
Broken down to its ultimate climactic definition, the Gospel of Christ is the good news of which God has delivered His elect from their greatest enemy that they could never have defeated alone. That enemy is Self. More specifically, the love of ones own Self. Pride, lusts, coveteousness, envy, murder, debate, dishonoring thy father and thy mother, stealing, lying, all of these are fruit produced from the tree of the love of Self, and Satan is the roots. The Triune god of "me, myself, and I." Isaiah 14:13-14. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 KJV This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. [2] For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, [3] Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, [4] Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; [5] Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
Every does Not know GOD nor does everyone have a relationship with Him. This is demonstrated by their deeds. You shall know them by their fruits(works).
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Could God be persuaded to change his sovereign mind like he did when Abraham reasoned with him about destroying the people of Sodom, and like he did when Moses reasoned with him about sparing all of sinful Israel? Would a tulip Calvinist be willing to reason with God about people currently on God’s blacklist, knowing he has the power to change any man’s or woman’s mind/heart?
I'm confused on something. Was God's wrath before Jesus died when He said "It is finished" or was it satisfied after he died? This has been driving me crazy
Good question, the atonement is completed when Jesus died and said it is finished. However, we remain under the wrath of God and under the law until we come to faith. At the time we come to faith we are no longer under the law and under wrath, for Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believes (Romans 10:4). Even though the atonement was completed 2000 years ago, it was intended solely for believers, it was a propitiation through faith in his blood (Romans 3:25). At the cross only Christ was justified, in his resurrection God absolved Jesus of the sins of the whole world (which were laid on Him), but no man neither elect nor reprobate was absolved of their sins, this does not happen until we come to faith and are united to Christ. The entire world was reconciled in Christ at Calvary, but properly what this means is that Jesus Christ and Him alone was reconciled to God and Jesus Christ's sins (the sins of the whole world laid on Him) were pardoned at Calvary. Christ reconciled the entire world in Christ, this is very important, no individual sinner was reconciled at Calvary, Christ alone was. The reconciliation of the sinner happens through union with Christ at the moment he / she comes to faith. The atonement is about Jesus Christ, who is the elect, the only promised seed (Galatians 3:14 speaks that the promise to Abraham was not to many but only to one seed, and this seed is Jesus Christ says the apostle Paul, and Galatians 3:19 talks about the coming of the seed which is Christ), but when we come to Christ then we can say that we also are Abraham's seed (Galatians 3:29). So to answer your question was God's wrath satisfied at Calvary or when we come to faith ? At Calvary God's wrath was satisfied as it relates to Jesus Christ, and God justified Him by raising Him from the dead, but God's wrath as it relates to us is not satisfied until we come to faith in Christ and are united with Christ. At the cross the sins of the whole world were laid on Jesus Christ, and Christ paid the penalty for bearing those sins with his death (God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son) and God absolved Jesus and justified Him by raising Him from the dead (1 Timothy 3:16 speaks about the justification of Jesus). Jesus also was baptized for the remission of sins, if Jesus is not a sinner why did he need to be baptized by John, because at that point he was commencing his Ministry and taking the sins of the whole world upon himself, Jesus was not baptized for sins he committed (he was sinless) but for our own sins (which were laid on Him), and at his Baptism the holy spirit descended on Him in the form of a dove. The birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus are all about Jesus and not about us. At the cross solely the sins that Jesus bore were remitted to Jesus alone, we must remember that the atonement was a propitiation for sins to be received by faith, the wrath of God against us is not satisfied until we come to faith in Christ, until then we remain under the law and not under grace (Galatians 3:23).
Why does Dr Horton say reaching out to Jesus would be a work but falling on Jesus would be trusting in Jesus in faith? How does Jesus make Himself our Lord? Does Jesus impose faith on the unregenerate? He said we cannot make Jesus our Lord!
Wiley The balance between the sovereignty of God and our own free will has been a debate since the time of Calvin and Arminius, if not before. The Bible teaches both that we have free will yet God is sovereign in whom He chooses. That is what MH is somewhat making a reference to.
xwriter100 The works of a true convert are not an attempt to impress God. But are a manifestation of a broken contrite humbled sinner, who is astonished at the foot of Calvary's Cross, the divine work of mercy towards those who could never help themselves.
It is the Word of GOD that should be in you. His Word is spirit and it is holy (set-apart) Not Holy Spirit... understand who the Holy Spirit is and His works according to scripture. The Holy Spirit is an Angel(messenger) They were assigned to do a job. If you have the Holy Spirit what is your assignment? The work of the Holy Spirit has been fulfilled.
15 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
The older I get the more inclined I am to rejecting every sect that claims to "KNOW" things beyond the honest ability of any mortal person. SImply to look out the available doctrines and just pick one over the rest because it sounds better? Ok fine ....what else to do? BUT where it crosses the line from simply endorsing that which appeals most to you. That which simply sounds best to you. See if we are honest? THAT ability we all have to make picks? FALLIBLE ...We are fallible, prone to error. What is funny is how someone trying to come across as confessing their being a sinner , owning their history of choosing error and yet be ADAMANT...that is profess to be infallibly RIGHT in the doctrines they confess....See but that is the thing? My take on things the older I get? If someone is SWEARING they have it infallibly RIGHT? Well what choice have I but to reject them as proud liars?....the strangely confidence inspiring thing about all these rejections? One verse indicates that Jesus had no where to lay His head....NOWHERE....and in the next sentence is saying "follow ME"
Do you believe what is written? That "there is NONE righteous (right) no NOT one ....NONE that understand..." Do you believe "The heart is deceitful above all and desperately wicked, Who can KNOW?" How about "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean NOT on thine OWN understanding"....Gonna adopt doctrine and swear that God is SAYING that? Swearing it is so? James 5:12 "...But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and [your] nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation..." When a person is basically SWEARING that their adopted doctrine is obviously such and such....Speaking with total authority of being infallibly RIGHT? Are you not basically swearing IN His "Name"? His "Name" BEING the Word of God ....So that using the AUTHORITY of the Bible to declare a theological opinion to itself BE the declaration of God....what gets me is how people will SUBMIT to bowing before a fallible man preaching before them? In solemn obeisance bowing in silence eyes closed uttering "amen"....It's a huge pat on one's shoulders also basically "thank you God that I am not as other me ....for I have chosen righteous doctrine and to bow to it...which other people are refusing to do ....like we DO do..." See in the parable "two men at the temple to pray" THAT is the heart of the pharisee! No? He is praying "thank you O God that I am not as other men even this publican..." and then he lists literal things he literally does that him to be RIGHT (righteous)....The Bible directly states this man is not justified in what he is saying. Conversely it IS justifying the other man praying in this parable ...the publican. The publican is NOT claiming to have anything right other than rightly observing he was a sinner (being in error asuring self you ARE RIGHT? = sin) See the publican would not even lift his eyes to heaven! Just ashamed is all....hoping for mercy. Pretty big difference on swearing your doctrine is infallibly RIGHT as opposed to confessing shame over having served OWN definition of what was RIGHT...unrighteousness? Not being right ....righteousness? Being RIGHT...Does the Bible say salvation is awarded to lucky guessers? Nope, it does say however that salvation is via HOPE....hope is a humble thing...no? The Publican had HOPE praying "Lord have mercy on me a sinner"
It is one thing to listen to and consider a way to understand something but something else entirely to pick and understanding and SWEAR that it is infallibly RIGHT....I believe to do so falls under the same heading as "original sin"...that act of man (adam is the word "man") The sin? "eating"/partaking of "the fruit" the act of presumption the"fruit"of one's imagination/heart) OF "the tree" ("tree" poetical meaning is individual persons) of "the knowledge of good and evil" ("knowledge"? the act of presuming to KNOW something...."good"? Well RIGHT of course honest aboveboard = "good" and "evil"? UNRIGHTEOUSNESS ....dishonest...NOT right
The first gospel (good news) is in the Torah (Old Testament). Genesis 3:15 is the promise to satan by God, that God will send someone to defeat him, and redeem the sin of mankind. The one sent is the Messiah whose name is Yahshua (the world know as Jesus the Christ).. The relationship with The Most High is keeping His commandments.
The gospel is the GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM! Jesus is going to return and set up the kingdom of God ON THE EARTH! God’s government ON THE EARTH! God resurrected the Messiah! The Messiah will resurrect his people! The destiny of the Messiah and his people is to be ON THE EARTH! The renewed restored earth! God also dwelling with them! Rev 21 Jesus said the Father is the only true God! John 17 3 And this is eternal life, that they know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.
Every Protestant that proclaims that we are justified by Faith Alone should HEAR these FOUR words by James 2:24 RINGING in their EARS: "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." the works james is reffering to is christ work, james is adressed to jews which were mostly pharisess, the "works" they didn't have was believing and proclaiming the gospel, they were teaching and pushing the law, they were not "feeding" people with the gospel, they were "judgsing people according to the law" so they had a dead faith, they believed in vain, they didn't believe the gospel and if you don't believe and rely on christ and his fininshed work, you're not in christ, james isn't pushing lawkeeping for salvation, he's indicting jew's who don't believe the gospel. so your understanding is poor, and you think james is "correcting" paul, the bible doesn't contradict itself, its always been by grace theru faith, thats never changed, this is who james is adressing >>>Jas 1:1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, TO THE TWELVE TRIBES which are scattered abroad, greeting. he wasn't adressing anyone else, he was indicting the lawkeeping jews for judging real believers >>>Jas 2:6 But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? james isn't a book about "you better do works", its a book about, "you better not be a lawteacher".
@@westoftherockies I have to put a wrecking ball through your argument, but James paraphrases Jesus 17 times in his Epistle. The people James is speaking to were not teaching and pushing the law, they were teaching and pushing Faith Alone for salvation. They did believe the gospel and they also believe that by faith alone they could be justified. There is only one answer to the 2 related questions of James 2:14. Can you guess what that answer is? Here are the 2 options: Option 1: James 2:24 You see that a man is justified by works and NOT by faith alone. Option 2: Luther 2:24 You see that a man is justified by faith alone. If you come up with the wrong answer that means you did not fully understand James chapters 1:1-27 and 2:1-23 to come up with the wrong answer.
The crucifixion was an atonement to God not satan. It is God's wrath that burns against sin. Satan loves sin and the sacrifice of Christ was the last thing he wanted.
I know this man is sincere. However, after many words he never said what the gospel is. This happens so many times by sincere preachers; they talk around it. Here is the gospel: Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world." Period. Therefore, the gospel has nothing to do with making the Bible user friendly to accommodate any and all philosophical religious ideologies and conforming to this world. Jesus begin preaching, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." The gospel requires repentance. Jesus said to Nicodemus, "You must be born again" or you cannot "see the kingdom of God." The gospel mandates repentance and a new birth. Jesus gave Peter specifically the keys to the kingdom. In Acts 2, Peter fulfills his commission by showing the prophecies of the coming messiah were fulfilled in Jesus Christ. God made Jesus both Lord and Christ. He is the manifested Word made flesh without measure. In him dwells the fullness of the Godhead, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Peter took those keys and said: "Repent, everyone of you and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins, and you will receive the gift of Holy Spirit." This is the gospel, the good news. The Messiah has come. The fullness of the Word has been made flesh in Jesus Christ. He fulfilled the requirements of the Law, took our place at Calvary, rose from the dead the third day. We now have access to the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead. His Spirit brings all things to our remembrance. We are not of this world but as he is, so are we in this life. This is the gospel.
There are many passages in the bible where the gospel is. Romans 3 and Romans 4 are two chapters of the bible where justification by grace through faith is best outlined, and this was the focus of this presentation. This was an exposition of both chapters and I found it close to flawless. I am not saying what you wrote about the gospel is wrong, as a matter of fact you summarized the gospel perfectly. And I couldn't agree more that repentance is part of the gospel, repentance is the work of God in us by which he turns us from trusting in our own works to trusting in Jesus Christ. But the presentation of Michael Horton was thorough and clear, one of the best I have seen. He said clearly that we must come to Christ, that the gospel is for the wicked, the ungodly, that must trust know their wickedness must be replaced with the righteousness of Jesus Christ that comes through faith. I have noticed other times that Horton does not preach repentance but this time he did, even though he may not have used the word, this was a great exposition of Romans 3 and 4 and to say that the Apostle Paul did not expound the gospel properly in Romans 3 and 4 because he didn't use the words born again or repentance is very incorrect. Michael Horton was focusing on Romans 3 and 4 primarily, this does not mean that the statements you made which are not found in Romans 3 and 4 but in other parts of scripture are not gospel, they are.
Almost everything "white horse inn" on youtube is "Comments Disabled" Which I refuse 100% of the time to not listen to ....AND I am so strongly compelled to click "dislike" also ...just my pushback on that ridiculous policy
Maybe the best articulated, thorough presentation and explanation of the Gospel I've ever heard. Dr. Horton has certainly been gifted by the Holy Spirit to teach.
over the years, i return to this sermon and others by Dr Horton to have the Gospel break down the calcifications on my ever wandering heart
Amen.
Matt C I can’t get enough of the gospel. It is our life.
On point

Thanks for the gospel
Thank you Dr. Horton for this thorough clarification of the gospel!!

I am so encouraged by Dr Horton. What a blessing his ministry has been to me and my family the past two years.

That said, I have to admit in this video Horton is every bit as good as a Lutheran preacher.
Wonderful.

That's why Jesus warned, "except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."
After humanity comes to the end of its rope, reaping the fruits of its choice to live apart from God, Jesus will return. When Jesus returns He and His elect will rule the Kingdom of God right here on earth, teaching all mankind God's way: the path to peace and love. It was for this that Jesus prayed "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." That's the gospel of the Kingdom of God.
some scriptures:
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (the apostle Paul, in Romans 6:23).
It is _through_ faith that we can make the critical choice, to _come to God_ in repentance):
"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him" (Hebrews 11:6).
This is how He leads us out of slavery to sin.)
The relationship with Him "yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby" (Hebrews 12:11).
---------
"And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him" (Luke 8:1).
"They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea."
"Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years" (Revelation 20:6.
Romans 6:23
Horton, try a tear, for that is the Gospel of God and Jesus Christ.
(Lev. 20:26).
To be righteous means to have the Right Belief and be saved!?
Not to be Tribalist, Nationalist or else Globalist closed inside..
yes, at that point he's speaking from the point of view of what the objections to grace alone would be. He's not saying he believes that.
i would like to know--why do we pray for another to be saved if God already chose his elect before time? could pastor tell me?thank you.great sermon.
2 Timothy 3:1-5 KJV
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
Romans 1:16; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Ephesians 1:13; 1 Thessalonians 4:14
God decrees the means as well ar the ends.
Sodom and gomorrah were destroyed.
Calvinism is much more than the TULIP.
He was hardly going to cry out after He had died.
Why does Dr Horton say reaching out to Jesus would be a work but falling on Jesus would be trusting in Jesus in faith? How does Jesus make Himself our Lord? Does Jesus impose faith on the unregenerate? He said we cannot make Jesus our Lord!
He (Jesus) is Lord. either He is our Lord in grace or our Lord in judgment.

The balance between the sovereignty of God and our own free will has been a debate since the time of Calvin and Arminius, if not before. The Bible teaches both that we have free will yet God is sovereign in whom He chooses. That is what MH is somewhat making a reference to.

The works of a true convert are not an attempt to impress God.
But are a manifestation of a broken contrite humbled sinner, who is
astonished at the foot of Calvary's Cross, the divine work of mercy
towards those who could never help themselves.
wiley hooper someone can no more raise himself to salvation than a dead man can get out of his casket
Jesus's Lordship is not dependent on His subjects acceptance of it.
Is it true we can mistreat the Holy Spirit that's in us?
It is the Word of GOD that should be in you. His Word is spirit and it is holy (set-apart) Not Holy Spirit... understand who the Holy Spirit is and His works according to scripture. The Holy Spirit is an Angel(messenger) They were assigned to do a job. If you have the Holy Spirit what is your assignment? The work of the Holy Spirit has been fulfilled.
15 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
Rev 21
Jesus said the Father is the only true God!
John 17
3 And this is eternal life, that they know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.
reaching out to Jesus is not your part, it is works. 48:20

the works james is reffering to is christ work, james is adressed to jews which were mostly pharisess, the "works" they didn't have was believing and proclaiming the gospel, they were teaching and pushing the law, they were not "feeding" people with the gospel, they were "judgsing people according to the law" so they had a dead faith, they believed in vain, they didn't believe the gospel and if you don't believe and rely on christ and his fininshed work, you're not in christ, james isn't pushing lawkeeping for salvation, he's indicting jew's who don't believe the gospel. so your understanding is poor, and you think james is "correcting" paul, the bible doesn't contradict itself, its always been by grace theru faith, thats never changed, this is who james is adressing >>>Jas 1:1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, TO THE TWELVE TRIBES which are scattered abroad, greeting. he wasn't adressing anyone else, he was indicting the lawkeeping jews for judging real believers >>>Jas 2:6 But ye have despised the poor.
Here are the 2 options:
Option 1: James 2:24
You see that a man is justified by works and NOT by faith alone.
Option 2: Luther 2:24
You see that a man is justified by faith alone.
If you come up with the wrong answer that means you did not fully understand James chapters 1:1-27 and 2:1-23 to come up with the wrong answer.
Yehoshua does not solve problems on Earth you have to get through them your damn self
Yes you must have a human sacrifice to satan, because there is no salvation without human bloodshed, Paul
What human sacrifice to Satan?
The crucifixion was an atonement to God not satan. It is God's wrath that burns against sin. Satan loves sin and the sacrifice of Christ was the last thing he wanted.
The gospel is that Jesus is the Christ. Full stop.
I have no idea what you are talking about.
I know this man is sincere. However, after many words he never said what the gospel is.
This happens so many times by sincere preachers; they talk around it.
Here is the gospel:
Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world." Period.
Therefore, the gospel has nothing to do with making the Bible user friendly to accommodate any and all philosophical religious ideologies and conforming to this world.
Jesus begin preaching, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."
The gospel requires repentance.
Jesus said to Nicodemus, "You must be born again" or you cannot "see the kingdom of God."
The gospel mandates repentance and a new birth.
Peter took those keys and said:
"Repent, everyone of you and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins, and you will receive the gift of Holy Spirit."
This is the gospel, the good news.
Michael Horton was focusing on Romans 3 and 4 primarily, this does not mean that the statements you made which are not found in Romans 3 and 4 but in other parts of scripture are not gospel, they are.
omg u got gospel all wrong .gospel in nutshell is romans 10 :9,Lord and savior
No....He has nothing wrong on the gospel!!!
No true believer would use the term omg!!!
There is the gospel about Christ, and the gospel of Christ. This is not the gospel of Christ.
