  • Beginners : You can learn to cross stitch in 10 videos!
    You'll begin by stitching a Mill Hill Buttons and Beads kit in a stitch along with me format. I will teach you commonly used cross stitching techniques using three super cute small projects (you pick your specific pattern) that you can stitch along with me, first on perforated paper, then on Aida, and lastly on linen or evenweave. I’ll discuss best practices that lead to stunning finished projects and will explain how and why they affect the quality of your work.
    More Experienced Stitchers: This is what I wish I had access to when I started watching FlossTube!
    This is a concise review of most cross stitching techniques along with explanations for why some stitching methods give better results. I’ll teach two handed stitching, will discuss the pros and cons of different types of frames and stands, and will teach you how to use a laying tool. I’ll discuss cross-country and row by row/column by column stitching and the techniques to consider using in both. I’ll show needle parking and stitching on the diagonal in the second part of the series and how stitching sampler style on linen is different than full coverage on Aida in the third.

    Hi Laura, I’m not a beginner but I want to tell you how much I love your videos, I like to watch them in the background while I work on my crafts. You are the teacher I wish I had had in HS science and your style for teaching cross stitching is right up my alley. Thank you! Btw, I ❤your turtle pendant!

    Hi Laura,
    This brings you my grateful thank you for all you have taught me. I have been binging on your series both Flosstube’s and tutorials since I discovered you last Thursday. Indeed, you are a great teacher. I find you very descriptive and I enjoy knowing why something is done in a certain way.
    Another thing I enjoy about you is that you are from Portland, Oregon. I am from the Portland area and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think of Portland, and miss it. I’ve lived quite a few places in the northwest and the west and I truly believe that Portland is the best place in this country to live. Thank you again for your tutorials please keep up the good work.

      Thank you for your kind words! It's so nice to hear that what I'm showing is helpful. I love Portland, except for the traffic! I actually live on the East Side in Troutdale, not far from where every ice storm, they send some poor newbie weather guy/gal out to stand there, get pummeled by sleet/snow and tell us it's still windy in Troutdale. : )

    Thanks, I’ve returned to stitching after several years & was self taught back then. My skills are rusty & I can see techniques that will really help.

    Hello Laura. I am fairly new to Cross Stitch and I have watched a lot videos, learned a lot, but this is hands down THE best I've seen. I have watched the intro and #1 and have already learned a bunch of very helpful tips/tricks/techniques. You are a wonderful teacher, you are peaceful, so organized, methodical and a real joy to listen to and watch. I just bought all the "stuff" I need to get started and am excited to get going. Thanks for all the effort, thought and heart you have put into this.

      I'm so glad my you like my teaching style. The teaching style for chemistry and stitching are surprisingly similar. Please don't hesitate to ask questions, either here in the Description Box or on my website forum. Good luck with your Mill Hill project. I really do enjoy stitching them, they are so lovely.

      Thank you! Once the pandemic is over, I’d like to do some in person teaching and I figured this is a good way to try out my ideas and get a bit of name recognition maybe. We’ll see how it goes!

    Thank you for explaining all the little things :) I am a semi-new stitcher and although I had managed to figure out a bunch of stuff on my own, it's really helpful to follow along and see how much (or perhaps how little, we shall see) sense my method makes. Even without this specific style of kit at hand (thusfar, I might be tempted..). I'll also be sure to revisit the sections on beads this will include as I've yet to try those.

      Awesome! Glad you’re finding these helpful. You should take a look at these Mill Hill kits. They’re super cute and there’s a huge selection. I’m an experienced stitcher and I still find them really fun and they’re an easy stitch but don’t look it in the end project. I have a link in the description box for them so you can check them out. You know you wanna… 😁

      @@piros44 Haha yes I know! Only my local teen will sigh because of ALL THE PROJECTS. But I may or may not have caved and ordered "Moonlit Kitties" - she likes cats and orange, soooooo ;)

    Thanks for this info. You are a wonderful teacher. I think I have everything needed to follow along. My only question (so far) is about the Good Reader app. There is quite a price difference between the regular app and the “Pro” version. Which are you recommending?

    Hi, Laura! I'm finally done with my WIP that I was trying to finish by the end of the year and am reviewing your videos on Mill
    hill kits. Thank goodness they tell you how many strands of each color should be in the floss bundle! The one I picked had light yellow, light gold, yellow, medium gold, etc. I think I have them mostly sorted at last. I'm going to try converting to PDF.
    I realized I didn't provide any feedback on social media forums. I'm not nearly as familiar with IG as I am with Facebook, so FB would be my choice even though I sympathize with your inclination to boycott it.

    • @piros44
      @piros44  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the feedback on social media! I haven't gotten around to thinking about that yet. Learning how to film is a huge learning curve and just when I think I've got it down, something else happens.
      Sorting those dang colors is tough. I just sorted the foss for my Aida project and I pulled out my DMC color card to help because there were about five I couldn't get. It would be nice if they sorted them for us like Dimensions does but that's very labor intensive and then the kits would be really expensive. I guess it's all part of the fun of cross stitch!

    One thing that I would love to see someone talk about/make would be a standing stand - like a standing desk but for cross stitch. Sometimes standing feels better for me, but I haven't found anyone that makes a stand tall enough for that. Any thoughts?

    • @piros44
      @piros44  3 роки тому +2

      Could you build a pedestal to get your floor stand to the right height? Big box home improvement places can cut lumber so all you’d need is to plan out a box with a piece of plywood on the top for the stand with some measurements and they can cut all the wood for you. They can even help with recommending lumber sizes and nail or screw selection.

    • @morganbrown9696
      @morganbrown9696 3 роки тому

      That's a good idea. I was thinking adding additional arms to a floor stand to raise it, but that would probably be much easier
