Considered the greatest rock song of all time, by many. They were around only 10 years, but made an indelible mark on music and the larger culture. Will live on for mellenia.
On the 20th anniversary of the original release of the song, it was announced via U.S. radio sources that the song had logged up an estimated 2,874,000 radio plays - back to back, that would run for 44 years solid. As of 2000, the song had been broadcast on radio over three million times.
Stairway is like a "Led Zeppelin Sampler" of everything they did before it - the culmination of all four albums. Acoustic, drama, light and shade, mythical lyrics, astonishing vocals, electric solos, killer drums.....this song embodied everything that Zep was about, up until that point. Still amazing more than 50 years later.
There's no real resolution, like Hotel California, it circles back upon itself and begins again, like an eternal struggle, no origin or finality, just the middle of the tale, perpetually, it's genius
As you get old, you eventually turn a corner where the end is real and its there behind every moment, every joy , every pain. More and more as you go. Here I tear up when that low burning guitar comes in and I see the expression on a young person's face as they hear it for the first time. This song transcends music and is, frankly, something mystical. Like maybe something of us really is going to rock-on into the eternal. Maybe on the whispering wind...
Perfect example of a progressive folk/hard rock song. No one could do it better! If you'd like to see them perform this live, check out their 1973 Madison Square Garden performance. It would give you an entirely different perspective, and it's always great to watch them perform live. I wouldn't mind watching your reaction to that if you do. :)
I have just realised I love your reactions so much because this is how we reacted back in the day. The whole memory lane sort of thing. What an epic song hey 😊
How is the view from Heaven?... now that you climbed all the way up the stairway. You finally landed on one of the Greatest Masterpieces in music history, not just Classic Rock. your education into the world of the best music ever created is going well. Another perfect reaction.
I was a teen when this came out and there's not telling how many thousands of times I've heard this song! I still love it like it was the first time! Greatest rock band in history IMO!
When I was a teen, many years ago, this song was always attempted by all aspiring young musicians and was considered the pinnacle of success if you could play this song all the way through like the stunning Jimmy Page! Not only have I heard this song played a thousand times, but I've also had to sit through many a 'performance' by wanna-be musician friends! Still adore it.
MAGIC! But, the live version at the Madison Square Garden 1973, is, just, on another level!😂If you want to travel, somewhere, out of our strange, stupid planet, just, listen to the live version: "STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN, LIVE AT THE MADISON SQUARE GARDEN 1973"....😂Peace from France ✌️
Try to check out HEART performing Stairway To Heaven LIVE at the Kennedy Center, honoring Led Zeppelin (who are in attendance and watching Heart perform this classic hit).
Ok...early young adult when this came out. I know this may not be a popular opinion....but it was played on every station on the radio...every school dance....you couldn't escape it. It took me until this year to appreciate it again....at 62. ❤
James Patrick Page + Robert Antony Plant + John Richard Baldwin + John Henry Bonham, the juggernaut of Valhalla, best band EVER. Greetings from Danmark 🤜 🇩🇰 🤛
Consider doing the live video from NYC. The Page - Bonham solo is 4+ minutes long. JPG was on keyboard, there was no flute in this song. Plant's vocals went crazy on the live version. 10+ minutes of Stairway to Heaven bliss.
Thank you for reacting to the greatest rock song 🎵 ever . No interruptions which is so appreciated. Jim react to the Kennedy center honoring the 3 surviving members , Jack Black is the MC. Heart does the most incredible cover of this song. You will get chills . John Bonham’s son Jason is on drums honoring his dad. Robert Plant is visibly emotional watching the tribute to them , as well as Jimmy Paige and John Paul Jones .👍👍❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏👍👍🥲😢😢
It absolutely does speak to your soul, which is why it's been argued to be the best rock song ever. So, if you haven't hit the Heart cover from the Kennedy Center Honors, this is a good time to do it!
At one point, Dread Zeppelin, (Yes, the spelling is correct) was Robert Plant's favorite band. Check out their version of this song from the album '5,000,000', and never miss a chance to see them if they come around (I have seen them), and they always play small venues. One of the funnest shows you'll ever see, and behind all the clowning around, they are real pros.
JM, I think you made a lot of ppl happy by reacting (as you do so well) to Stairway. I know I’ve been looking forward to it. As great as this LZ song is, it’s not my favorite. 😬 Apparently I’m in a very small minority. I’ve never given a lot of thought to the lyrics; they’ve never led me into any deep meanings. I read up a bit on STH because I remembered something about Plant not singing it again after they broke up. He did, though, at a couple of events with Page & JPJ. Some things I discovered… 🤙 STH is probably the most played song ever on the radio with accumulated airtime of over 44 years. 🤙 Page, who produced & oversaw the arrangements is very proud of Stairway and considers it a masterpiece. He wouldn’t let anyone but Plant sing it & at several of his performances it was played as an instrumental only. 🤙 Plant wrote the lyrics and appreciates the instrumental. But he doesn’t care for the song because he really really doesn’t like the lyrics. He said that (I paraphrase) it was written by a 23 yr old & it sounds like it. As for meanings, he only said publicly that it’s about a woman who took what she wanted & never gave back. I can’t help but notice that Freddie was always vague about the meanings within Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen’s masterpiece. I suspect the writers of both BR & STH wrote lines that sounded good but weren’t coming from any deep thinking. But what do I know? 🤷♀️
And I thought "Heart" or "Dolly Parton" did this song but in reality nobody can top the original but the others I just mentioned are worth mentioning!!
Definitely check out their live performance of this song at MSG in '73 - the guitar solo that Jimmy Page does is longer than the album version and is AMAZING! :D
Too bad you can't do the live version from the Madison Square Garden concert. None of that concert is on UA-cam anymore. I recommend buying the concert DVD. It's titled The Song Remains the Same.
I'm old and have always loved this and LZ generally. It's a great song - but these days, the hippy/folky lyrics sound a bit dodgy to me. Check out "Kashmir (Live from Celebration Day)"
Funny the intense video watching for unofficial video. Just filler. The Madison Square Garden concert in the early 70s is the best representation of a rock star by Robert Plant. Shirt unbuttoned, pants stuffed for third leg😮😮😮😮
If you like the Kids of Led Zeppelin, listen to the men of Deep purple, so much better in so many songs. But both bands are gifted, with muscles for Deep Purple...
Considered the greatest rock song of all time, by many.
They were around only 10 years, but made an indelible mark on music and the larger culture. Will live on for mellenia.
Actually, 12 years....Sept. 1968 to September 1980.
Milania?
I've always felt like they slowly walked us up the stairway to the top.... Then they threw us off and the fall was delightful.
Most requested song on radio in history… a timeless treasure!
Yet it was never a single.
On the 20th anniversary of the original release of the song, it was announced via U.S. radio sources that the song had logged up an estimated 2,874,000 radio plays - back to back, that would run for 44 years solid. As of 2000, the song had been broadcast on radio over three million times.
JM, having heard this song just gave your life a "Greater Meaning".... it has done the same for MILLIONS.
They were always amazing...magical! This song was meant to accelerate into magnificence!
Hello, Julie, it's Julien from France 😂You're, definitively, the greatest Led Zeppelin's fan!🌹

The greatest rock song ever written. 🎸🔥🤘

This song is actually regarded to as one of the greatest songs of ALL TIME, sometimes even #1

I like watching your videos because you react without keep stopping. Thanks.
I Love watching you take in music that has meant a great deal to me through the years....Enjoy New Generation....God's Blessings
Back when music was magic
Great reaction to an amazing song by LZ. They are the GOAT

Best band ever ❤
The best or one of the best zeppelin songs ever

why?Heart is not Zeppelin.

The first concert I ever went to was Led Zeppelin at the Boston Garden. They played this song. It was an amazing experience.
Thanks for the review
Great review, I agree wholeheartedly!
Thank you enjoyed your reaction!
Best Song EVER IN ALL THE UNIVERSE!!
Me and my Bestie know EVERY Lyric 👍
The Best ever!
Watch Kennedy Center honors Led Z!!! Heart sings this and it was great!!!!!
Music is all about frequencies and when those frequencies touch your soul you get chills.
Great silent reaction how it should be. Peace from Germany!!!
Kool reaction

I just discovered your Channel!
LOVE IT!
LOVE YOUR INSIGHT!
LOVE YOUR TUNES!!!!!
Do NOT forget John Paul Jones on bass and keyboards. The flute was actually JPJ playing it on a Mellotron. A lot of bands used them.
The flute actually wasnt a flute . It was a recorder playing on a Mellotron. JPJ had so much talent.
Yep!

Classic tune 🎸👌

You just got to this one...interesting. Live dude, MSG 1973! Live is even better! The GOATS! 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
"To Be A Rock, And Not To Roll"... would be a crying shame.
Thank you for doing studio version. This is where you get the full effect...
Great reaction!

Spark up my pipe and sit back to enjoy this one. Thanks JM
Pipe? Or bowl? Difference.

Still is!
You were right in choosing the album version. Others have chosen a much less impressive live version.

More than a rock song....a religious moment.
Do the live version
It seems appropriate that you ascend to the highest heights of Heaven on 4/20...... "And It Makes Me Wonder"
Live at madison Square Gardens is totally amazing and superior to the studio version. Please check it out. 4 people making an incredible noise.
At last you can get the joke in Wayne's World 😂🎉❤
the opening riff banned in guitar stores across the land.
Please watch the live versions from the movie The Song Remains the Same. You will be blown away
if you think the solo is crazy here you should check out the live version
Watch Jimmy Page explain the making of Stairwsy...there is a UA-cam video of it!
Kimmy coming up !
Listen to Sting - Fields of Gold
