Not in the UK as throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s the radio was mainly BBC stations (BBC 1, BBC2 etc) and the BBC would not play any rock music, and Zep got absolutely zero airplay. Therefore no one would have requested STH as they would know that it would not get played. Consequently, even the most mediocre of pop songs would have been requested more than this masterpiece, as they would have been played! The more benign songs of Slade, Quo and Queen were sometimes played though on the radio. Zep's rise almost entirely came about through word-of-mouth, listening to friends records or nightclubs that played rock. Ditto for groups like Deep Purple. I would imagine that it would have been different in the US though with their multitude of radio stations.
The jury in Los Angeles deliberated for one day in June 2016 before rejecting the claims that “Stairway” was a ripoff of “Taurus.” The jurors unanimously agreed Led Zeppelin didn’t use anything that was unique and original in the plaintiff's composition.
It was a weak ass case against them. Rick Beato did a great video on it and said that the lydian scale that they use is in a lot of songs going back hundreds of years.
it was just a very small part of the acoustic intro you may argue that the chord progression is kinda similar but the melody is completely different... and what comes after the intro is purely Page/Plant
These gentlemen in this band have more talent than any band then and now ! All four are world class musicians to the point they didnt have to steal anything! The courts have spoken but haters gonna hate !!! I wonder if the song would have been a flop would there have even been a lawsuit against Led Zeppelin ?????
Absolute masterpiece. GREATEST rock song of all time. Almost 50 years ago. Jimmy Page's BBC interview is a must view on UA-cam for a definite understanding of how and where this timeless treasure was composed. To ALL Led Zeppelin fans...Ramble On!
I was just starting my junior year in high school when stairway was released. It was a monster hit in the St. Louis market. K-SHE 95 played the whole entire album in one setting also.
NOBODY cares about the lawsuit. This is a phenomenal classic song. BTW - DJs loved this song because they could put it on, everybody would listen, nobody would complain and they could take a bathroom and coffee break. (You guessed it. I was a DJ.)
Too much has been made of the controversies dealing with this song. All I know and all that matters is this is one of the Greatest Rock songs of all time 🤘🏼 Cheers! 🍺🥃🍸🍹☕️
Led Zeppelin was in a league of their own. Being the biggest band in the 70s made them a huge money making machine. That's why other artists tried bringing lawsuits against them claiming plagiarism.
Great reaction to one of the best songs of all time! Now, you have to listen to Heart's tribute at the Kennedy Center Honors. They play "Stairway To Heaven" with Jason Bonham ( John Bonham- drummer for Led Zeppelin's son). It gives me chills everytime I watch the video. You will not be disappointed!
Beautiful song. Simply means you can't buy your way into Heaven, no matter how much money or influence you have. The woman was wealthy and beautiful and used to getting what she wants BUT she can't buy her way into heaven.
About a rich woman who thinks she can buy her way into heaven but learns "your stairway lies on the whispering wind". I love when it says basically we need to objectively find out right from wrong and unite together for peace and to "be a rock and not to roll" as in stand firmly about what is right and not to sway. A beautiful, creative, and deep song. This is a rock classic. Led Zeppelin is one of the most legendary bands in rock history and arguably the band that influenced what would eventually be called hard rock and heavy metal. One of THE most influential bands ever and rock would not be the same had they not existed. They were a part of the early British hard rock invasion which includes Cream, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple etc.
If it hasn't been mentioned yet, The 'live' version of this, from Madison Square Garden is pure classic gold ! Jimmy page awesome sole on the 18 string / dual neck guitar, Robert Plant showing off his 'talents' too. . . . RIP John Bonham
It was the number one prom song in high schools in the seventies . If you really want to understand led Zeppelin watch the DVD called The song remains the same video movie live in Madison square New York I promise you will love and understand the band

Steph & Jay.... great reaction...! But.... you need to react to Zeps live performance in Madison Square Garden .. think its 1973.... Get to see Zeppelin at their apex..... singing their magnum opus! It captures that early 70's zeitgeist! God bless...
You have to do "Kashmir" and "Since I've Been Loving You," incredible songs. Also, check out "You Shook Me" from Led Zep 1, their first album, an incredible cover of a rhythm and blues tune by Willie Dixon -- just mind-blowing. "Stairway" is beautiful, but they got sick of playing it because everyone always wanted to hear it all the time.
Ridiculous to even bring it up in relation to this song, as if there was any debate about who wrote it. Someone always looking to make money on the back of other people's talent. Led Zeppelin - one of the greatest groups of all time - all supremely talented individuals.
Has anyone ever heard of the band you mentioned? Z E P P E L I N has a whole catalog of masterpieces, compiled over 10 years and 9 studio albums. Best rock band of all-time. Hands down. If tragedy hadn't struck- just think what could've been??? Anyway, they did win the lawsuit!!!
Written for and about Janis Joplin. Robert Plant famously did not like this song and even "forgot" the lyrics during live performances more than once. Great vid guys

You two are awesome. It's subtle but well worth mentioning...that the absolute hook during the entire guitar solo is Page sustaining an F# chord on his Fender Electric XII 12 string plugged directly into the main sound board, thru the entire solo. You have to listen closely but it's brilliant in its application and makes this arguably the greatest guitar solo in rock history. Actual key is Fmaj7
Back in the 70’s growing up Led Zeppelin help shape my “fragile eggshell mind” (doors) I remember a popular DJ used to say “who’s going to teach the babies about rock n roll” (Jim Lad, KMET) it fills my heart and soul to see so many people discovering the music I grew up with. One minor criticism - you stopped the song before the end. Led Zeppelin were known for leaving gaps then coming back in a song. It was only a short piece you missed, but it was a much more dramatic ending. I can see how you thought it had ended.
Back in the 80's TBN had a show that would take any rock song, play it backwards, and they would say "did you hear that, did you hear that, he said mentioned the devil" So this became a craze. Meanwhile there a thousands of song that mention devil worshiping while its played in regular mode. At the time this song came out song's like this were brand new, and never heard before, so this song took off like a rocket. Just like when Bohemian Rhapsody came out. No other rock song sounded like it.
