The impact of those 2000-2002 Hurricane squads on the league cannot be understated. One of the least talented athletes on the roster was Ken Dorsey, and he went 38-2 as a starting QB in college football, coached Cam Newton into a Pro Bowl/Super Bowl QB, and helped Josh Allen become one of the best QB's in the league as his QB coach.

As crazy as this team was in terms of recruiting.....all Miami did was stay local to build this team. SO like 80-90% of these guys were from south Florida alone.
In recruiting they called that winning the state of Miami. Howard Schnellenberger (may he RIP) had a philosophy: draw an imaginary line from I-4 from Daytona Beach to Tampa and declare everything below that the State of Miami. They went after the best players in South Florida, other players from around the state and some elite recruits from around the country. If Miami could lock up all the South Florida kids it would be hard to beat them. No. I’m a Canes fan but this team would not have beaten an NFL team at the time. Yes, this team produced so many Pro Bowlers and Hall of Famers but they were all 20 somethings and not Pro Bowlers/HOFers yet. This past years tigers will probably be recognized as one of the greatest teams of all time. Just give people time to see what they really did. See, a good bit of that team is still in college. @@richardharvey6938 no, but I must have missed when Dorsey did anything good in the pros because he sucked in the NFL. At least the rest of the roster actually did something at the next level.
Oh dang jasonfire34, u didn’t have to do him like that 🤣😂🤣
That’s not the point though about his league career it the fact that even though he was a system player he still lead that team with all that talent and put up numbers to get him on draft boards
He was good in college and still got drafted
Its hard to believe anyone would say Miami 01 was a perfect team with Ken Dorsey at the helm of the offense. Im not saying he was bad, but perfect? He was so out of place on that team given the amount of talent around him it was a joke. Imagine a truly great college QB on that team.
Do nfl players who always come up clutch in big moments
Jonte Stevenson marshawn lynch comes to mind. Which is kinda rare for a running back
So far no team has come close. 2001-2022.
1995 Nebraska corn husker
It's going 2 happen again w/ Mario Crisrobal leading the troops. National Champs next year! Especially if quarterback TVD comes back for his senior season!
The 1991 Washington Huskies is always overlooked as one of the greatest teams ever. The '01 Canes are definitely #1 though.
That 91 huskies was dope bruh!
Most impressive about that Washington squad was their complete shutdown of Heisman winner Desmond Howard who'd been running his trap back then leading up to the Rose Bowl! He ended up a near blank in that game! Huskies' defense rendered him non-existent! No factor whatsoever
And if I remember correctly Mario Bailey was the Huskies' star receiver and he outplayed Howard!
@Swarthy One they did in fact beat Nebraska 22-0 in that year's Orange Bowl! I think u meant play Washington! Those two split the national championship
@Swarthy One Miami vs Washington in '91 would have been epic
22 starters, 11 first round picks, smh, I have never heard of anything else like that!🤣🤣🤣 Lol
1995 Nebraska without a doubt. There average game score was 53-15.
Baltimore Z-Wad I agree and I’m a busker fan
GBR!!!!!
Baltimore Z-Wad Finally someone mentions it 🙄🙄
I swear no one ever mentions 95 nebraska except nebraskans and it fucking sucks
Tommie Frazier is the best college player I have ever seen, the 95 team wasnt built like an NFL team so they were never going to have to pro players Miami had. Would love to see the 01 Miami D vs 95 UN offense
They allowed ONLY THREE (3) passing touchdowns ALL season. Sheesh!
Greatest team of all time hands down
The mid 90's Husker teams with Frazier were 1 missed FG/badly officiated game away from 3 in a row, against the big 3 Florida teams. No, the 1995 Nebraska team was better than this Miami team.
Wrong. 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers. Beat (blew out) 4 top 10 teams, average PPG of 52, and 27 NFL players.
Bbeech 44 were a lot of the players on that team players who got in to the nfl hof?
@@ninjafarmer9779 what does that have to with what they did in college?. UGA currently has the most active NFL players from one school yet no national titles for UGA.
Garrett Hampton there heart and soul was Lawerence Phillips kinda like Vince Young for Texas
Ninja Farmer who cares about what they did in the nfl? It’s best team in COLLEGE football history
Legacy
I wish people would just except this as a fact and stop fighting it….this team was INSANE! 4-5 HOF on one team
2008 Urban Meyer Florida Gators were scary too 💯
They had a loss
Those early 2000s Miami Hurricanes team was a good time to watch college football
Im a diehard USC fan but that 2001 Miami team is the best CFB team of all time, my top 3 would be
1. Miami 2001
2. USC 2004
3a. Texas 2005
3b. Alabama 2012
2 is 1995 Nebraska
Agree with the Top 2, then '95 Nebraska third and '05 Texas 4th
And Alabama 2011, not '12 was Saban's best! To not only humiliate then #1 LSU 21-0, but to hold them to 93 total yards of offense says it all! The way their defense played that night, they could have beaten anybody
I want to point something out Alabama is a great team, but the reason for that is they recruit from Florida so does Georgia and Ohio state,I am a cane fan but I like to see Florida players go to the U Florida state or Florida then we'll see the 80s and 90s again
The Miami Hurricanes should've won the 2002 National Championship as well but Ohio State and the BCS robbed the Canes!
No, THE REFS BLEW THE CALL! And we were snubbed in 2000. We should have been picked 2 play in the NCG. ROBBED OF TWO (possible) TITLES!
If you could assemble teams from each college program…. Miami would without doubt run through every one!
Damn bro, chill lol 😂
Coming from a MSU Spartans fan, I totally agree 100% the 2001 Miami Hurricanes were a very very scary good team.
Wassup little brother
10 greatest college players all time
Hershel Walker
Tim Tebow
Benton Turner Reggie bush
Barry Sanders and Red Grange
Benton Turner “money” Manziel
I’m a huge 95 husker fan, but I’ve got to admit. 01 canes are the best , period.
Also gotta mention with all the accolades everyone won from that team, there are a bunch of pro bowls missing, rip Sean Taylor, gone too soon
I dare anyone to debate another team against these guys. They were unstoppable.
It has already been pointed out they came close to a loss twice. 95 Nebraska had zero close games. And you do not compare teams from different years against each other. How they did against their opponents from their respective year(s) is what you go by.
I say 2013 FSU. QB-Jameis Winston RB-Devonte Freeman WR-Rashad Greene, Kelvin Benjamin TE-Nick O’Leary Defense Jalen Ramsey, Telvin Smith, Lamarcus Joyner, Eddie Goldman, Mario Edwards. I mean cmon this team would have success at the NFL level
'01 canes had a better defense
Sorry no way...Both 95 Nebraska & 01 Miami would bitch slap that FSU squad
@@raidersacdc4892 they'd win but I don't think they would have bitch slapped them! Reason being is due to the athleticism of the '13 Seminoles, and their team speed! '01 Miami would beat them a bit worse because they were better on both sides of the ball than '95 Nebraska! U hafta remember the evolution of the skill positions over time! I think both would win, but the '13 Noles would have made it competitive
@@raidersacdc4892 The '95 Nebraska defense didn't hafta face anyone the quality of '01 Miami, or any of the other historically prolific offenses! That Nebraska defense was rarely tested
Refs cheated the U in the 2002 National Championship against Ohio State. Watching that game and seeing the rig still has a bad taste in my mouth.
This is based on NFL success after college. The best college team has nothing to do with what happens after.
Amen to this.
They are the best ever it wasn’t just one year. It was three years of dominance.
This team was 💯 pure TALENT
Simply put...
The 🙌!!!
Top 10 Major Leaguers who played in the Little League World Series.
Now that I am older, comparing this teams of nowadays to that team is an insult to that great HURRICANE TEAM I was so fortunate to be able to see them play
2008 Florida was pretty tough
Yea but not better than this team.. I'm a Florida fan too.
That Miami team had speed all over the field at every position, playing the 08’ Gators wouldn’t even have been close
This miami team wouldve beat the brakes off that team
We basically witnessed what an NFL team would do to a college team . Fucking destroy everybody . That’s why it’s nonsense when they bring up can Alabama beat the 0-17 lions or browns the answer is NO!
You take that team put them up against bama or Clemson teams of the last few years they would destroy those two teams hands down best collage football team ever
No.😤
6lemans10 that Miami didn’t just have nfl players but NFL stars and hall of Famers
Preston Johnson Clemson’s team last year , should take the spot!!
Hmm maybe not the best all time Bama team.
AmpUpDaleJr88 i don’t think yet, but maybe in 10-15 years after we see how they do in the NFL
They had the best players from south Florida. And top end talent from around the country? DJ Williams was the best player out of Cali, and went top 20 in the draft
I was confident making it half way through , that he wouldnt mess up someone's name.... then he butchered mcgahee... smh
Lmao I knew if any name would be mispronounced it was going to be McGahee
Equivalent to the dream team, just football!
So they probably could've beaten an NFL team.
2001 Carolina Panthers won their 1st game, against the Minnesota Vikings (who went 5-11), had the largest point differential (-157). While I will never believe a college team could beat an NFL team, even as one as stacked as the 2001 Miami Canes, this is probably the best argument for it.
Probably not, but the 01 hurricanes definitely had the best shot. They didn't just have NFL-ready talent, they had pro-bowlers and Hall of Famers
No. Lol!
No. I’m a Canes fan but this team would not have beaten an NFL team at the time. Yes, this team produced so many Pro Bowlers and Hall of Famers but they were all 20 somethings and not Pro Bowlers/HOFers yet. Don’t forget that we had Ken Dorsey (one of the most underrated college QBs ever) at quarterback and he didn’t exactly light up NFL defenses did he?
I used to believe they could, but the NFL is a different beast...even Ed Reed said (during his HOF speech), that the '01 Canes would've gotten smoked
I can't deny the talent stacked on that 2001 Hurricanes squad. I remember at the end of the season that year they destroyed my UDub Huskies in Coral Gables.
That 2001 Miami hurricanes could beat some NFL teams like the Miami dolphins
2018 Clemson Tigers went 15-0 for the first time in a 100 years. Best ever is on the rings. Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne, Justin Ross, Tee Higgins, Hunter "the GOAT" Renfrow, and the starting defensive line all went in the fist and second round in the draft
Texans Tom 01 hurricanes would obliterate Clemson.
Texans Tom, I’d say we have to give it a few years to see how great that team was in retrospect. Remember this Miami team played all the way back in 2001. That’s 18 years to look back on it. This past years tigers will probably be recognized as one of the greatest teams of all time. Just give people time to see what they really did. See, a good bit of that team is still in college. Not to mention, very often people don’t know how great something was until years later when they look back and are like “wow that was one of the greatest teams ever. I can’t believe we didn’t see it then.” (Ps. I’m a gamecocks fan. So see some of us can give credit where credit’s due)
Texans Tom that Clemson team is one of the greatest but they was not fucking with that 01 Miami team Miami football had a different mentality 😭😭😭😭 hit stick and bust dick dem cans are the shit 😭😭😭
Whatever!
Imagine trying throw the ball on a defense with Sean Taylor and Ed Reed
I knew before I clicked on the link who the team was because I was in college then
Just an insane amount of talent on that team, holy CHRIST!!!
Love the Canes!
Thanks for doing this one. This squad still doesn’t get the respect they deserve. The only way they’ll get that is by spreading the word.
do biggest draft bust from every position
Absolutely the best college team ever assembled!
2001 was such a great season for college football and Miami led the way.
