For those curious, the worst college football team ever was probably the 1991 Prairie View A&M Panthers (FCS, then Division I-AA). They went 0-11, giving up an average of 56 PPG while only scoring 48 points all season. 8 of their opponents scored more than 48 points in their game against them, the worst being a 92-0 beatdown by Alabama State. They were shut-out 5 times, & their closest game was 23-6. Fun Fact: there is an ESPN Classic episode of "Who's #1" that names the '91 PVA&M football team as not only the worst college football team, but the worst sports team ever!
2012 Southern Miss finished 0-12 after finishing 2011 12-2. It is the record for the worst year-to-year downturn in DI history. The Golden Eagles lost 23 straight before winning the finale in 2013
Though not fair to pick on this team, the worst college football team of time statistically speaking are the 1920 Daniel Baker Hill Billies. They posted an 0-9 record, giving up a total of 506 points, and scored absolutely NOTHING. their first game of the season, against SMU, was a 70-0 loss. then they played A&M and lost 110-0. They gave up 100+ points twice in the 1920 season, with their second game being against Austin, as they lost 109-0. This was also back when college football was REALLY weird, since they actually played a game against their own alumni. They still lost 14-0. There’s almost no information about Daniel Baker’s football program, or really the university in general. The college shut down their football program in the late 40s and closed completely in 1953.
13:28 I'm surprised you didn't mention that, due to being composed of these types of players, these teams tend to run the triple option offense made famous by Tom Osborne & Nebraska in their glory days. Since this offense is so rare these days, it poses at least a LITTLE bit of a challenge for opposing defensive coordinators.

@GlennAndrews-dw1cx yes they did. But they were also a lot better in the 90's than people give them credit for. If you look at the schedule they played, it was insane. 4 SEC teams, plus Miami or USC or Missouri. It was crazy. Bowl bids were almost impossible for independent teams back then.
