This was a great video. Very well done. One small critique. I think you should say a record of 117-117 as "117 and 117" rather than "117 out of 117", because that makes it sound like only 117 games were played.
Great video. My opinion on these types of debates is that if you have to ask the question “should this player be in the hall of fame?” Then the answer is no. Hall of fame should be reserved for the absolute most prestigious and elite players of all time. I feel the same way Deion Sanders does, it should be far more exclusive than it actually is. A hall of famer doesn’t just win a championship. It’s so much more than that. They should be THE dominant player of their peak. They don’t need to have a long career or win as many championships as Brady. They just need to be the absolute most dominant force in the game when they’re playing it at their position. Terrell Davis, Adrian Peterson, Champ Bailey, Deion Sanders, Gronk, etc. Eli Manning had a great career. A career he should be insanely proud of. But it was not a hof career in my view.
I won’t defend Eli but longevity needs to be a factor for the HOF, ray lewis was dominant his whole career but if he won 1 ring and only played his first 6 or 7 seasons he wouldn’t be a HOF’er. Even tho he was arguably the best linebacker in the league for those 7 year. But his longevity of greatness would have put him in canton without needing the second SB. If Big Ben won those two super bowls and then left the league after 6 or 7 years we wouldn’t all consider him a lock for first ballot or even the HOF. I get what your saying and I do agree that canton need to be a bit more prestigious. But if a guy was the best in the league at his position for 4 years that’s just not enough. Only thing would be 4 record setting years and 4 sb that would get them in. Only example I can think of right now is unfortunately Patrick Mahomes. He could lose the first round of the playoffs this year, retire after the season with 8 years under his belt and he is still a first ballot
It's called the hall of fame not hall of elite, Him being a Manning, beating the sports' greatest player twice in the big game, & being a starter 10+ years should be enough. everything you typed should be about 1st ballot HOFers not HOFers in general
I think it really depends on what is wanted to be presented to the visitor. Personally I would much more appreciate a HOF museum that included names which made the game outstanding, rather than those most outstanding in the game. To give example regardless of whether Eli on merit deserves to be in the HOF; the fact he is so surrounded by such rich history and talent for the game as part of a family of NFL greats, that it takes away from the experience to NOT have him mentioned there. Get what I mean? Brian Pic may or may not be in the HOF, IDK, but it seems to me it would be a lesser experience to not see the story about sayers and pic. That's just a quick example off the top of my head. But its the kind of stuff that makes the game more than a game. Who got the most TD passes in a year or career ... seems to lose a little shine when compared to the stories like Brian's song. I know technically you are correct. But that wouldn't make it a better experience for me as a visitor to see ONLY the top in their positions to be noted.
You make some great point man!! I think Eli is a first ballot, superbowls aren’t won with “luck” or your family name if that was true then he would have more than 2, this dude wasn’t the greatest but when he needed to be he was TWICE!! HOF first ballot in my eyes
That's a nice, shallow rhetorical statement that dismisses all the work that Steve Spagnuolo did & continues to do in the NFL. So I'm not arguing about Eli: I'm arguing for the play-callers &/or the players sabotaged by bad ones. Isn't it funny that in a year that Flores' treatment of Tua came to light, perceived busts like Baker Mayfield, Geno Smith & Sam Darnold are succeeding, a QB like Justin Fields whose play-callers have all been fired or demoted & who everyone but his current team can see is better than their current QB is still assumed to be a bust? Even Josh Allen was seen as being hampered by Ken Dorsey. But people still don't learn. Tom Coughlin cooked up a clock-eating offensive scheme, Spags focused on just the pass or the run game knowing the Patriots needed both to succeed. Anyone can shout about what already happened. _True_ vision comes from seeing what *can happen* _BEFORE_ it does. Like Coughlin & Spags.
As a giants fan- we’ve had it rough these last few seasons. And it’s been a while since I felt pride in big blue. Your video helped me relive the good times with Eli- I’m subscribing just for that
if Melo Had 2 Championships for New York, hell if anyone wins MLB world series 2x or anything in New York There’s No Need for a HOF Discussion FREE ELI!!!!
As a life long suffering Giants fan Eli was a great QB because he's a humble soft spoken man who brings his lunchbox and goes to work each and every day. Brady had beaten Eli twice that season but Eli beat him when it matter. He is the only QB to beat Brady twice in the Superbowl. Thank you for reviewing this great player!
Damn right, he should be in the Hall. He brought balance to the force by taking down the Evil Empire twice while every other team up to that point were just laying down to them. 😁
As far as I’m concerned, Eli made the Super Bowl twice against the 🐐, and beat him both times, one of which was in the goat’s best season of all time. There’s a lot of great regular season guys who don’t make the postseason. Eli performed at the highest level when it literally mattered the most.
I know you NYer are slow, so I'll break it down easy for you... This isn't a discussion if he's a HOF. It's weather he deserves to be a first round HOFer for just having 2 good seasons. Easy as that. 👍
Great video, also brother you have an insanely great public speaking voice. You kill it (good way) with inflection and engaging sentence structure. Not sure if you put this kind of thought when you record but it shows regardless. Brilliant man. 👍
My problem with Eli is the only time he ever led the league in any statistic was for interceptions and he did it 3 times. 22 other Giants and their HC also beat Tom Brady twice. Everyone knows those defenses are what beat Tom Brady. But no one's begging for Justin Tuck and Osi Umienyora or Corey Webster to make the HOF. Eli had one year where his regular season was top 10. It can't be about the Rings entirely or why is there not more people clamoring for Julian Edelman, Devin McCourty, and Matthew Slater to make the Hall? Eli has longevity stats but outside of 2011 he was never a feared QB. Most defenses went into games wondering how many picks they can get on him.
Amen. Too bad many in the comments are too dense to realize everything you said was facts. Anybody, clamoring for Eli to be in the HOF should do the same for Edelman, bc he was just as clutch.
I think Eli will make the HOF. I hooope it's not on the first ballot considering all of the really great players who didn't make it in their first few years. Some guys had to wait 15 or more years when it was obvious they were HOFers. There are some elite players who are HOFers who never got a Ring. But I don't think getting a Ring or even multiple should *automatically* boost mediocre players into a classification of greats they don't belong to. There is no similar argument about whether Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs are more deserving of the Hall than Adrian Peterson. No David Diehl vs Tyron Smith or Trent Williams discourse. So wtf are we doing here??? Imo Troy Aikman is an example of a player that won a lot of championships but should have never seen the Hall. He never even passed for over 3,500 yards in a season. The most TDs he ever threw for was 23 but aside from that never over 20. He just happened to be the QB the Cowboys had when they had a magnificent team around him thanks to the friggin' Vikings and a talent evaluation team who didn't squander the picks. There are other Cowboys from those SB teams who deserve to be HOFers who aren't (yet) and yet Aikman's been in since '06. Make it make sense.
@ Vinnie Testaverde played 18 years and was top 10 in every playing category when he retired. But he was also was average-to-awful for all but two of those years.
Giving all the credit to those defenses and none to Eli is unfair to say the least. The defenses were great but so was Eli. Both those things had to exist to beat those teams that averaged 13 wins apiece. It was Eli that lead the offense that won the time of possession in 6 of those 8 games (by an average of 5 1/2 minutes) that helped with point prevention. It was Eli that led a record 10 minute drive in SB 42 and set the completion record in SB 46. It was Eli who set the PO records for completions, yards and GWDs. Also, Eli was the first QB to lead multiple game-winning TD drives in the closing minutes of a SB and lead multiple comebacks in multiple post seasons. He had 2 of the most iconic pass plays in SB history while winning 2 SB MVPs. He did all that while facing Ds that had an rank of 10th that sacked him 20 times in just 8 games. I'll agree with you about the picks but he did have Top 10 seasons in '08, '09, '10, '12, '14, and '15. He is a flawed QB that is probably not a 1st ballot HOFer. However, b/c of his ironman streak, the 2 historic SB runs and carrying that bad team in 2011 to the POs while setting multiple 4th Q records he will eventually be a HOFer.
116-116 regular season record, but the trade off is winning two super bowls against the GOAT. And one of them was against the 18-0 Patriots. No doubt he should be in the HOF
2 of the most clutch, epic super bowl runs ever. People will discuss beating the undefeated Patriots forever. Maybe he won't get in on the first ballot, but he deserves a spot. Especially beating Tom Brady twice in the super bowl. (which is hilarious)
If Eli wasn't shadowed by his brother then he would 100% be in the HOF. Undefeated against the goat in superbowls? Took a rag tag group of a barely wild card team to a superbowl. His clutch play against the niners in the championship game still pisses me off. Dude was a baller. Smart and decisive.
As a Giants fan, I can say Eli Manning is a borderline hall of famer at best. He had some great years and had good longevity, but he also had so awful seasons. In his defense, the Giants ran a play action deep passing offense, not the short controlled passing offense the entire league runs nowadays, so he did throw a lot of interceptions as a result. I feel he should get a spot in the hall of fame, but definitely not first ballot. PS ... he was the only QB to take down the Pats in the Super Bowl ... TWICE
He got 2 super bowls, 16 years of playing, top10 yardage, and very dependable. This is not even an argument, of course he will be in. His brother has the same amount of super bowl wins and one less MVP. Having more yardage, and more success in regular season doesn't really mean much if you're not producing in the playoffs.
I would look at Eli’s record from 04-12 and his record after. The seasons after the 2nd Super Bowl the Giants showed from that point on that they could no longer build an offensive line or a half decent defense. Those later years it was Eli OBJ and not much else. Eli pre 2012 record was pretty good an him an Tom were rising up the coaches an Qb win board
The theme of this--the Hall of Fame is about legacy, not just great play--is spot on, you nailed it, but you kind of juke the numbers by comparing Eli to guys like Testaverde, Sims and Bledsoe. It would be better to compare him to the near-miss QBs who had top tier numbers that dwarf Eli's, but are still not Hall of Fame worthy. It makes the case in a more stark and telling way. Look at Eli's draft partner Phillip Rivers, say, or his division rival Tony Romo. Both are top 10 all time in passer rating (the only two in the top 10 not to win Super Bowls or even appear in one) and put up ridiculously good numbers, but neither will go to Canton. They were, like, CLEARLY great QBs, better players than Eli, and no-brainer franchise guys that you pay, but though great, neither has the hardware or legacy that get gold jackets. Eli does.
Personally I would call him just short of the HoF threshold but I totally get why he has fanboys there's a substantial level of talent. I wouldn't ever call an appraisal of a quarterback as elite being undeniably true if they never legit carried a disaster team to success. Which that's pretty rare to be true few of the guys I consider legendary that always had an at least decent team around them when they were really performing. The guy was no doubt great but I consider starter material longevity as a significant KPI statistic quantity (cumulatively) is almost a quality of its own that's not so say I don't think averages aren't more and better indicators than total. Like how I see it is compare him to Joe Flacco and instantaneously at points albeit brief a really high level of play particularly in the playoffs but Joe started deteriorating pretty soon after an a good bit sharper of a decline. One could argue Eli had some supporting cast studs but I don't think that is a strong enough case to discredit Eli's soft-landing decline being credit to himself completely. Eli didn't get too complacent after success and did not prematurely resign himself when he started getting rusty. I got mad respect for that.
Is he first ballot? Yes. If you would have put in the time that he was standing at the podium waiting for the media to answer questions, AND THEY DIDN'T SHOW UP A AFTER A LOSS! That would have proved the type of character it takes to be in NY!!!
Please stop pluralizing unique players. "The Mannings, Bradys, Montanas..." wrong. There's not multiple guys that compare to Brady or Montana. Now if you say "The Penningtons, Mariotas, Carrs" makes more sense
Dan Marino career passer rating is 86.4 never won a Super Bowl but he’s in the hall of fame. Brett Favre 86 passer rating won 1 bowl and is in the hall of fame. We consider these guys 2 of the greatest to play the position. If Eli doesn’t get in cuz hes 2 points away from their passer ratings that wouldn’t be right.
On these days, it looks like the criteria for the HOF are not based on what the players' numbers on the field during his career.🤔 I'm not a Giants or Eli fan, did not hate the the guy 😁😆but I think he should be in if the guy has the numbers, 2 S/B, and those were against the Patriots, and one was against the undefeated Patriots, C'MON...
Completely disagree. Aikman not only has more rings, he played in an era where the gameplan was give Emmitt the ball behind their mammoth offensive line. Eli was playing in run and shoot and west coast offenses under Kevin Gilbride and Ben McAdoo where you throw the ball a lot more. He's literally 500 as a starter. Let's be honest, if Asante Samuel or Gronk catch both of those balls, the Patriots win. El lost 117 of the total 234 games he started. Not 117 of 117. Zero all pro selections. Never led the league in passing yards, completion %, or touchdown passes. 7 seasons out of the 16 he played he had a losing record as a starter. 9 of those 16 he finished 500 or worse... From December 22, 2016 to the end of his career in 2019, his record as a starter plummeted to 10-28. Other than the 2 super bowl runs, he was 0-4 with 4 one and dones in the playoffs with 3 TD passes and 7 interceptions. Rivers ended his career with 55 more touchdown passes, and 35 fewer interceptions... Eli had 18 total passing touchdowns in his postseason career. 18 touchdowns and 9 interceptions in 12 total games is awful... He literally averaged less than 2 passing touchdowns and .75 interceptions in his 18 postseason starts. Eli had 45 games where he did not throw a touchdown pass. Last damning fact: 62 times Eli played a game where he had more interceptions than touchdown passes.
@@sickgrimm4462 Eli didn't outduel Brady. The Giants defense sacked Brady 7 times in those 2 games and held the 07 Pats to 22.8 points below their average...
I see your points, and they are valid. Can you tell the story of the NFL without Eli Manning's career? Does The League have the same history and lore if we, say, ignore Eli's toppling of Goliath in the Pats in the SB? The answer is: No. You can't. Therefore, Eli is a HOFer. It's that simple.
@@Alex-ye1br That is such a bad argument. You literally can't tell the story of the NFL without including every player that has every played. Steve Young's redemption story has to include the Chargers and Stan Humphries and no one is clamoring for Stan to get into the hall of fame... Eli was aided by an elite pass rush where he went 19/34 for 2 touchdowns and an interception. Those are hardly elite numbers that would warrant an mvp award in a losing effort...
Beating the 07 pats alone should get him in. He did out duel Brady in that game too. He threw for 11 fewer yards and 1 more TD (did throw a pick) but made the 3 best plays of the entire game and arguably the greatest play in Super Bowl history. He should be a HOFer and it is that simple.
Eli is going to be inducted as a service to his family. If they're gonna induct a Giants QB that QB should be Phil Simms. But nope, it's gonna be Eli...just because of his last name.
"The HoF isn't just a statistical leadeboard; it's a museum that tells the story of football." What a great way to say it.

One small critique. I think you should say a record of 117-117 as "117 and 117" rather than "117 out of 117", because that makes it sound like only 117 games were played.

Eli does.
Hate him or love him, he was really entertaining to watch.
ASC uploads. IT'S A GOD DAMN LATE CHRISTMAS MIRACLE
💀💀
That's my Quarterback.....that's my teammate =) Love Easy Eli =)
He deserves to be a HoF.
Eli is tom brady cryptonite in superbowl😅
Good quarterback who had all time defenses carry him to two superbowl rings.
As a pats fan i think he does.he helped slay the beast 2
One of the toughest QBs
2 rings is HOF ontop of that 2SBMVP
Personally I would call him just short of the HoF threshold but I totally get why he has fanboys there's a substantial level of talent. I wouldn't ever call an appraisal of a quarterback as elite being undeniably true if they never legit carried a disaster team to success. Which that's pretty rare to be true few of the guys I consider legendary that always had an at least decent team around them when they were really performing. The guy was no doubt great but I consider starter material longevity as a significant KPI statistic quantity (cumulatively) is almost a quality of its own
that's not so say I don't think averages aren't more and better indicators than total.
He is considered hall of very good!
Is he first ballot? Yes. If you would have put in the time that he was standing at the podium waiting for the media to answer questions, AND THEY DIDN'T SHOW UP A AFTER A LOSS! That would have proved the type of character it takes to be in NY!!!
If you beat the greatest QB in 2 Super Bowls you get the damn yellow jacket…
My bad, not the first year!
Eli manning deserves to be in the hall of fame.
Please stop pluralizing unique players. "The Mannings, Bradys, Montanas..." wrong. There's not multiple guys that compare to Brady or Montana. Now if you say "The Penningtons, Mariotas, Carrs" makes more sense
Would you ever get into doing long (2 hours etc) video essays
Don't have the time right now, but I'm open to it
Eli the GOAT Slayer.
If 2x Super Bowl winning, Jim Plunkett can't get in, then either can Eli....Free them both NFL!!!
if troy aikman is a first ballot eli is for sure
First Ballot? Probably not. Hall of Fame? Yes.
I mean, he’s better than Hollywood Joe Nammath 🤷🏻♂️
First Ballot Hall of Fame
84.1 Career Passer Rating... LMFFFAAAOOO
1st ballot HOFer? More like first tissue to wipe my bumm with.
Can't stand him.... but he's getting in
Your voice sounds familiar....
No fuckin way!!!!
The Manning brothers, Phillip Rivers, Drew Brees and Tom Brady made the NFL fun from 2005-2012. The NFL has not been the same since then.
Gosh, Patrick Mahomes wasn't fun?
@@johnchedsey1306he is the leader of the transition to the next era, including Josh Allen and Lamar!
He’s not, he’s been just mid his entire career
Kurt Warner got in and he only had about 4-5 good/decent years
@ He had more good years then that
@GoPackGo10 no he didn't
@ 3 good with the rams and 4 good for the Cards
@GoPackGo10 2 with the rams 2 with AZ. I would've said 3 but he threw to many picks in 07 and idk where to got 4 good years in az
2 superbowls and 2 superbowl mvps😂
He should be a HOFer and it is that simple.
maybe one of the most overrated QBs couple of fluke passes doesn't get you anywhere near the hall
He is hall of very good!
If Dan Fouts can get in on first ballot there's nothing to debate here.
If a Punt Returner can be in the Hall of Fame, Eli can too.
Well if you are the greatest returner of all time you should be inducted! Gale Sayers made the HOF for his combined impact as a RB and as a returner.
Eli is going to be inducted as a service to his family. If they're gonna induct a Giants QB that QB should be Phil Simms. But nope, it's gonna be Eli...just because of his last name.
Eli is the greatest QB in that team history!
