Miami 5 national championships with 4 different head coaches. Schnelly made the blueprint, Butch put together the best college football team ever assembled, Erickson was an offensive genius and Johnson was a top 2 or 3 all time college coach. Each rebuilt the team. We had the best string of coaches any school has ever had.
Can't have it both ways .If you're going to talk about how much tougher your race is than others, ya can't complain when you get the 'thug' label slapped on you. YOU'RE the one that put it there.
Overall, The U is an exciting documentary that gives the audience a behind the scenes view into the success and controversy surround Miami University in the 90s and early 2000’s. It appeals to a wide variety of people and has something to interest almost everybody, with everything from team highlights to statistics to interviews with coaches. The rare footage from locker rooms, practices, and even the huddles in games allows one to feel like a member of the the team and witness the culture of the Hurricanes that ordinary reporters can’t capture. The film does an excellent job of presenting the story responsibly and neutrally, which is impressive considering the interviews of players that are biased to their alma mater and the numerous scandals surrounding the team. All of the polarizing information and topics that The U covers would make it incredibly easy to, and even difficult not to, create a film that presents the team in a biased manner, but the director masterfully manipulates it in such a way that viewers can draw unique, different conclusions. I give this documentary a 10/10, and would recommend it to anyone, even if they’ve never watched football in their life.

themailman43 He was just repeating what an opposing player said to him. It is too prevalent that folk, across the board, think "black men are tougher, scarier, etc!" The prejudice is real. But it didn't come from him.

Alright, here's a bit of crossover info. I watched the whole thing on ESPNU. At the end, they showed highlights of Miami's success. What caught my eye was a clip where a defensive tackle, #94 D. Johnson, creamed the quarterback of what I think is UCLA. DT #94 D. Johnson didn't make it in football, but he did in the entertainment industry. Ladies and gentlemen, that was Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. He had a decent career, but in his freshman and senior years he tore his ACL, and wasn't drafted.

You do have a point, for the sake of debate those 3-4 tough teams we're both referencing were top 10 at the time. 1992 just picking a year a #3 Florida State Team, #7 Penn State, #8 Syracuse & then #2 BCS game with Alabama which we got routed in. We should be now, where we thought we were going to be with Randy Shannon & Jackory but oh well Stephen Morris is about to enter into his own & mark my words Duke Johnson wins the Heisman next year!

@knightguy11 it does matter to some people like me....but if a college team has more players in the nfl it shows how good the college can recruit and how well they can develope players
THIS WAS THE GREATEST U team in my history of the team dating back to early 1980's... I don't care about the cheesy loss. This team imo is top 10 greatest of all college teams.. Highsmith & Jerome Brown alone are both top 10 greatest HUrricanes of all time. This team was so special from 1980s to 2000's Gref Olsen team.
I can't remember which game it was I watched but I remember it was the 91 season. The opposing ball carrier was knocked out of bounds on to the Miami sideline and the television mic distinctly picked up a Miami player yelling, "GET UP, GODDAMMIT!!!" In 35 years of watching college football I still have never heard anything like that on a live national broadcast. LOL!
Testing, testing, is this thing on... I pray that you are watching this Coach Mario Cristobal. We NEED to be 'the team to beat again'. Please move us forward (tastefully) ... The 🙌
I was around back then,The 1986 team was the only one that was really proactive in creating those situations. After that year it was circumstances or the other team who would instigate trouble or those officials in Texas who threw twenty flags on Miami in that Cotton Bowl.I still have never seen a replay or live shot at the time of what they did to get all those penalties. The cameras would at some of it,never saw one replay during that game of unsportsmanlike play
Honestly, I'm tired of people trying to debate what's gonna happen. I think people mostly do it because the game is such a long time away, and people get bored until then. But, the outcome depends on so many factors like turnovers, penalties, how Golson plays against the Bama defense, and how well Bama runs the ball. So many games don't go as expected, like the 2010 AU-Oregon game, everyone thought it would be really high scoring, and it was not. The 1992 Bama-Miami game was another example.
Testing, testing, is this thing on... We're 2-2 and many fans are still wondering what the heck!!! I pray that you are watching this Coach Mario Cristobal because we do not need another loss like we did playing Middle Tennessee. The 🙌...
It was a shocker; that OSU team looked really good that year; whereas Florida struggled against some teams like FSU; but yea something happened that night, I don't know what it was; either Chris Leak got red hot, or maybe OSU just didn't match up well with Florida, but it was a shocker. And I think that game was what gave the SEC the momentum it has today; and it started the Big Ten on a downward slide, that seems to get worse every year.
I think 10 wins NEXT season is totally attainable considering I think we win 8 or 9 this year counting winning all our home games a soft Duke team and maybe VA. Not sure about Notre Dame but that's why the games are played cause anything can happen. Al Golden is not as passive as Randy was, you got to fear the tie.
@knightguy11 Good for you, I'm glad you coached. I don't remember cheating off the field. If you're referring for the pell grant scandal yeah that wasn't cool but a lot of worse things happened at other institutions (especially SEC schools). I played also and know more than a few pro players so I think I have a good idea of what goes on as well :)
Miami not only won a National Championship in 2001 by destroying Nebraska, but no other college team has ever come close to the 2001 Championship team. done
You are right. Wuerffel has been ranked as a top five college quarterback of all time. He had amazing numbers in college and won the Heisman. He was drafted in the 4th round. They say he didn't have the arms strength(not enough zip on the ball). He played 6 seasons in the NFL and started some games as well. He was the MVP of the Wold Bowl in 2000. Not all great college players translate to the pros. Especially QB's. There is a long list of great college QB's that didn't make it in the NFL.
The Canes couldn’t talk too much smack about Bosworth. He was for certain one of the few opposing players that could back up his talk vs them. He probably would have fit in well on that Miami roster.
@PapomanResurrect My brother ended up playing for Middle Tennessee State and I played at UCF. Sorry buddy but I earned 10 letters in high school. Starting QB, point guard, and 2nd baseman. I was not physically talented enough to play for Miami. I should have played small college basketball, lol. At 5"10, 185lb white boy, I was lucky to play at UCF. I loved my experience at UCF and I'm very proud of my degree. My grades were pretty good actually. Made the presidents list a few semesters. Good day
The Tennessee Volunteers kicked that cane ass in the ' 86 sugar bowl 35-7. The canes scored on the first drive and we're lucky to get first downs the rest of the game.
@knightguy11 the sad part is that those players have to live with those decisions though they thought it was cool at the moment. The good thing that came out of miami is the fact that some of their former players are great players in the nfl and have great character. Those decisions in the film hinders any good perception of some of the greats that come from an institution like Miami.
I wouldn't underestimate Notre Dame if I were you; historically overconfidence has been a dangerous thing just look at games like the 1987 Fiesta Bowl, 2002 Miami vs OSU, 2006 USC vs Texas, and in the NFL you have the 2002 Super Bowl Rams vs Pats, 2008 Pats vs Giants. Also Notre Dame is better than alot of people give credit for they have a good defense, and an offense that's improving. Their biggest weakness is probably the redshirt freshman Qb, who has played well, but still might struggle.
@funnytrain1 I appreciate being called "not a Miami guy", I played football at UCF. I earned 10 varsity letters in high school. QB, point guard, 2nd baseman. I was always a leader. You don't know me at all. My teamates could always count on me. I just kick as between the whistles. I'll knock you on your butt and then offer you a hand to get up. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Its a shame that some people think the way you do. Play hard, play fair, and win. Good day!
Anyone that didn't watch this team/ overall this documentary doesnt understand how feared this team was at the time. Even full blown NFL players from multiple teams said Miami could beat multiple NFL teams at that time. The U isn't GOATed for no reason 👏👏

Al Golden needs to do the Schnellenberger style of recruiting. Recruit in state, because they play with more passion
LSU Ended the U on December 30th 2005. 40 --3. Geaux Tigers
@MrDukefan7 Thats great, I"m glad you follow that.
Guarantee if every state didn't come down to Florida plucking our talent we would be on top.
Whats this episode called? Or is it just called "The U"?
Miami was great, but Oklahoma wasn’t scared one bit. Boz played the game of his life.
OK.....that's a good fan....you are rare.
is there anyplace where "The U" is on DVD?
It's sad that a private school beats up state schools. Wow. Nuff said. U all the way man, Gators and Noles can only smell defeat.
Anyone that didn't watch this team/ overall this documentary doesnt understand how feared this team was at the time. Even full blown NFL players from multiple teams said Miami could beat multiple NFL teams at that time. The U isn't GOATed for no reason 👏👏
