UPDATE: There is a version of the K7 where Low Profile Gateron Switches ARE hotswappable! This video was more a refresher of the keyboard because it's literally just the K3 but in a smaller form factor. If you want more information on the switches and connectivity, check my K3 Review and Lube Tutorial! for the hotswappable Low Profile Gateron Switches, do you think they will be compatible with other switches (e.g. MX, kaihl switches normal profile switches)?
You are absolutely right -- I do have the DareU 65% low profile keyboard and honestly it is not a bad deal considering it was 65 dollars including shipping. And I chose brown over red and I am not regretting! I might get the K3 instead if I am still interested. Your comment on the two function keys and no control definitely helped.
I'm getting my first mechanical keyboard. Was looking a lot into K3 recently as i love the low profile style, what do you think? should i jump into the K7 instead?
I'm honestly kind of intrigued to try one of these out. I have a Havit HV-KB390L which is essentially that DareU board, but more accessible, and until recently available in clicky blue switches only. Anyway while I do love the Havit board, I found myself falling back to an Artek flat board very similar to the Apple Magic keyboard for my daily job stuff, then switching the mechs for gaming and code work. The K7 seems like it'd be the best thing to toss in the pack for whatever I might need it for, though its form factor is probably a bit tight for daily use in my case (big hands and what-not) :D Thanks for the sound comparison; I was missing that most when trying to make up my mind about the K7!
I am moving from the Magic Keyboard to the K7. I am confused which color switch to select. I want the Tactile ones for sure. But, do I go for the Brown or the Banana? Please advise?
You can't go wrong with either but Bananas will feel more similar to your Magic Keyboard Switches. Regardless of your choice, you can always buy a set of the other one if you don't like it.
@@Romsicle Thank you! Is the difference between these 2 Banana & Brown -> distinct enough to buy both? I mean I understand if there's a "mild" difference. But in your opinion, is there a very pronounced difference between the 2 which would warrant that I buy both? thank you!
I have a Filco ONLY wireless keyboard. I'd like a wireless that can also be wired for accessing bios (also i've had instances when bluetooth didnt activate on windows for some reason and couldnt log in as the keyboard wouldnt work). Can this keyboard function wired? - I would like to mention there are wireless keyboards out there that have a cable that only acts as a battery charger but doesnt work as a wired keyboard.
I'm confused by what you said about the new switches not having pre-travel bump.. because on the Kickstarter page they indicated that both new switches comes with a tactile bump at the beginning (like Panda switches). So no pre-travel bump = no tactile bump at the beginning??
@@Romsicle that’s what i hate about brown and will choose red instead but now you said better use tactile with 0 pre travel , still finding where you talked about it
Your clip was inspired me to back K7 on Kickstarter, after I use K3 for a while. Can't wait for K7 coming. Brown or Banana? Why Keychron page said both have same pre-travel?
Keychron and a lot of other companies like Epomaker don't bother having accuracy on their charts when it comes to pretravel LOL Browns might be better for low profile switches but Bananas might feel really good with that no pretravel bump.
Hi! Already use an logitech mx master and i want to buy my frist keychron, for programming but i dont know if k3 or k7 and mechanical or optical, brown is secure but others things are in my mind
For the K3 and K7 it doesn't really matter if it's mechanical or optical unless you're going to lube it. But I'd suggest saving money and go the mechanical route if you're using brown switches.
Hello. I was wondering if its able to choose the keycaps collors (somewhere its more light and the dark was on sides but you have them just swapoed) or if its random.
@@Romsicle I just realised if you have the RGB version you will have the darker main keys and for the White backlight version are the lighter. Sorry for wasting your time :)
How do you access the " ` " and the " ~ " key that are located on the "esc" key? I'm asking to determine if it's too unintuitive for me as a programmer.
You assume that Keychron would replace the DOA or refund my money. They did neither. They demanded that I send a video proving that I did not falsify the test results. Then they just ignored me. Your response also assumes that they did no inspections before shipping the product.
Are the banana and mint low profile key switches available already? I wanna try the mints and swap my browns as I think the browns feels soft in its actuation for my liking.
@@Magnenator I reached today Keychron staff member and recived info that it is preorder and orders will be shiped in September. I asked about some recompensation for misleading and in response they give me info that they will be added 3 more switches as a gift
@@Romsicle can the keychron K3 have custom key caps? if not can you recommend a similar form factor keyboard with better customization for the key caps and switches?
@@Romsicle what it feel when it no pre travel? Please describe, i use brown optical and red mechanical , i dont like tactile feel it not smooth, but wonder how no pre travel feel like??
Advertised as "wireless". Actually Bluetooth. Connected to my system with supplied (too short) USB cable. Multiple keys do not work. The product is sold "as is" - there is no warranty. Tried to get an RMA number and a return shipping label. Keychron demands a video proving that the keyboard does not work. If the keys do NOT work, the feel DOES NOT MATTER, and the reliability DOES NOT MATTER!
Bluetooth = wireless You basically gave the coldest take of all time LOL If you get a DOA item (which happens to all tech products), you simply get a new one. Imagine getting a DOA RTX 3080 and calling it garbage. That's what you just implied in your comment.

@@PatrickRW99 Assuming they use the same base, you should be able to swap em.
@@Romsicle but arent gateron and MX low profile switches different? or are they the same?
@@PatrickRW99 That's why I said ASSUMING. If they're different, then they obviously don't work. You literally just answered your own question LOL 😑
you’re literally the only one with a keychron k7 review on UA-cam, this’d be my top pick for a keyboard, loved the review btw!

K3 has just a couple more buttons up top and if you don't need them, K7 is the way to go.
@@Romsicle Thanks for the recommendation! great video anyway, keep it up!
keychron mentioned for k7 the gateron low profile can be hot swapped too
Ah you're right - did not see that there were two versions for the Gateron Lows! Thanks for letting me know!
Optical banana OR gateron brown, which one should I go for?! CANNOT DECIDE!
You can zoom in and out with ctrl + mouse wheel, I use an MX Master 3, so I can step the wheel

how is gaming on this keyboard? Been looking at this
I usually recommend keychron keyboards to my friends who want a nice keyboard that’s cheap and mechanical, but don’t know anything about keyboards.
Why keychron said The Gateron Switch puller cannot be used to remove K7 low profile switches.

can i change the Y and the Z keycap? so it is still work if i change them bc i live in hungary and for me is easier with a hungarian keyboard

Great video. Are the keys the same size as on the k3 or are they a little bigger?

4:50 Keyboard noob here, how come it's not advised to lube low profile tactile switches? Could you still lube just the stabs?
You lose the tactility of the switch. Lubing stabs is fine.
@@Romsicle Interesting... does that rule only apply for low profile tactiles or tactiles in general?

Shift + Fn + Esc
