Just some advice, for any XIV related stuff you might want to get someone who has played the games. For anyone who’s interested there are a few mistakes, some of which I’ve seen mentioned in other comments but I’ll add to that. Odin and behemoth were fates from 2.0, not added later. The Odin added in 2.5 was a trail of average difficulty. Also not sure if you just worded it weird but instant death planes were in Twintania and the non savage nael. But the footage used was the non savage nael while you talked about savage and the Odin trail while talking about the fate, so I do think things were a bit all over the place.
yea, watching this made me realize he hasnt really played the game, also pretty sure during the omega section for stormblood showed some footage with a hacked zoomed out camera lol
@@red5robb1 I stopped before I got that fair honesty. As a massive fan of XIV I do think he should have skipped the mmos cause I think the term super boss doesn’t not work for mmo just on the nature of the game type. No hate to the channel cause I love there content most the time and the best final fantasy wikia also has the mmos on the super boss section while not fitting in. Most mmos are about progress and pushing gear and skills higher and higher. Having that harder boss and a final pinnacle fight to reach and beat isn’t the same as a super boss because of the fact most the game is optional to begin with. I think I’m rambling at this point but I think I made enough of a point.
To further go over what happened with Omega Protocol, the team that got worlds first had extra players watching everyones screens to help figure out mechanics. This is allowed, but the team was also using a zoom hack to more easily see mechanics. The team had some kind of agreement with one of the extra players to take them through the fight after they had a clear down, but they went back on it for whatever reason, and the extra player released a video of them cheating as revenge
I was super hooked on Brave Exvius for a couple years. Fun game, although I didn't love the timing requirements in the battle system. By the time I dropped off, most "guides" for the bosses revolved around using macros to consistently execute perfect attack strings.
To highlight the genius of the DSR raid for those unfamiliar with XIV, I wanted to expand on it.. The first phase with Haurchefaunt was impossible to save him. You go through phase 1, the battle ensues, Haurchefaunt blocks the spear, but ultimately pierce prevails and breaks through his shield, and we lose our hero. A classic retelling of the story of Heavensward. The genius of it, is that you fight through from phase 2 onward (the new "beginning" of the ultimate), fighting Thordan followed by Nidhogg over multiple phases before you get sent back in time to the encounter with Haurchefaunt once more, except with one massive difference: your party (should) now have a level 3 Limit Break. Using a Tank Limit Break to save Haurchefaunt, your party has the capability of rewriting history. In the next phase, similar to Phase 2, you fight Thordan, however this time, the party neglects killing him (otherwise the timeline proceeds as normal and you enter phase 3 instead of phase 7), resulting in a fight against the enraged dragons Hraesvelgr and Nidhogg, whereupon defeating them allows Thordan to be empowered by the felled dragons Nidhogg and Hraesvelgr and he becomes Dragon King Thordan, resulting in a final encounter of defeating the big-bad-evil-guy. The story of the fight is an ode to rewriting the history of Heavensward which many regard as one of the biggest story highlights in the whole XIV main scenario and shows the Warriors of Light impacting history through an epic fight, even if only recounted in a bard's tale. (Personal note, while the story of the ultimate raid is incredibly done, as someone who made it to phase 7 before the static fell apart, the fight itself isn't that crazily memorable)
This was a good write up describing the fight. The only thing I disagree on is the fight being memorable. I’ve cleared it a few times but I think it’s very memorable. No only on the quality of the fight, but how much it tests you, and of course my own personal experiences and time spent progressing it. My favorite fight in the whole game.
What a journey through the super bosses this was, loved the series! Excellent video as always! I have to say, as someone who doesn’t particularly seek difficulty in a super boss, I like it when they seem impossible but then there is that one strategy that makes them easy to steamroll. It is somewhat satisfying to be able to curbstomp those nasty creatures. My favorite is Zodiark, it sent me to the Game Over screen way too many times. But after I came back with fully Holy element gear, it was subdued in less than one minute! Makes the game mechanics shine in my opinion. I wish more bosses were that way.
I still think you should do a video on everything that has the name Ultima in it; equipment, summons, enemies, lore, etc. It pops up so much Final Fantasy it should get it's own detailed break down.
Odin and Behemoth was both there on release of FF14 A Realm Reborn as fate encounters. They had a 72h spawn timer. When Odin spawns, all the 5 differnt zones in the region Black Shroud will get a special weather effect to signal he have spawned, not totaly random place but several locations randomly in a time where flying was not implemented. Just like Behemoth (Behemoth have a fate that spawn first that must be cleard and that one you can see on the map. Odin wont show up on the map, only on the mini map and the Fate is called Steel Reign. He will also spawn at lvl56 (might ve higher) at the time the level cap was 50. He could wipe all the players in the encounter with his signature attack zantetsuken, this happens at 10-20%. There are some fun videos of it on UA-cam. If the Fate fails, the next time he spawn he will be 2 levels lower, to a minimum of either 50 or 52. But one of the coolest things with Odin is that the player that got the last hit that killed him will be the character model used when Odin spawns again + that players name will be under Odins name at the top of his head. And when there was like 3-400 people engaging him, its just a lottery hit 🙂 You where right about Odin having a mini raid or trials as they are called in FF14 in patch 2.5, but it was a 8man version of a 4man fight they made for fan fest 2014. It was also labeld hard mode but was actually a Extreme trial in difficulty, and a few people got mad that it was to hard etc. Think he got nerfed a bit, he had a pretty hard dps check that triggers at 10% hp, if you cant kill him before the zantetszuken cast end its a raid wipe and you start over again.
The Epic of Alexander (Ultimate) was and still is extremely difficult. An aspect of FFXIV that separates it from very hard encounters in single player games is getting all 8 people to execute things appropriately at the same time every time in a single run, and in Alexander's Ultimate there is very little room for mess-ups and the encounter is not a quick ordeal. To me, it is the single hardest encounter within FFXIV to date.
This whole series has been so well done and so satisfying. I won't lie, I was EXTREMELY tickled about so many FFXIV bosses being discussed, haha, but you did an absolutely fabulous job with every one of them. Thank you for so much hard work and such dedication to what could even be called a savage challenge!!
Another notable super boss in Brave Exvius was Tel-Fulsanis. This boss was extremely challenging when it was introduced for several reasons. 1. It was a three stage boss that had to be beaten with one party so you had to prepare for all three phases. 2. You had to beat the first two phases in single battles before you could even challenge the full 3 phase fight. 3. The abilities that each phase used were random. If RNG wasn't on your side and any one of the phases used Killing Frenzy 2 to buff itself you basically lost because his damage would be too high for your tank to survive.
Quick correction. Odin was available as a fate at launch alongside Behemoth in XIV 2.0 (ARR). Odin was also introduced as a hard mode and extreme mode trial in 2.5, but he wasn't particularly difficult.
Superbosses *were* the main content of the mobile games, the basic story stuff was very easy, but the optional bosses required a mix of strategy and good luck with your gacha pulls to ensure you had the ability to actually pull off said strategies.
I'm surprised that Pandæmonium (P10S) or even Athena the Tireless One (P12S) didn't made the cut on this last entry for some years to come but I'd guess that it's more of perception and those two fights being infamous difficulty spikes. I'd assume that we'll need to see what the next expansion will bring but probably won't be matching the dedication that you've put on telling us how these superbosses have been wiping the floor with everybody's parties
This series really shows just how Square has changed over the years (whether its for the better or not is for the individual to decide.). Part 1 included all mainline final fantasies, except for tactics. 1 spin off. Then we have part 5.... 23 entries in this video, and only 2 of them are from mainline games, without downloadable content.
This is super nitpicky but the Second Coil Savage in FFXIV was a little different than the way "savage" is used now. Raids nowadays are split into casual "normal" raids that can be done with random groups to enjoy the story and get lower level gear, and harder "savage" raids which require lots of practice, memorization, etc. and reward high level gear. Binding Coil, by contrast, had no "normal" raids -- to access the story required completing the hardcore raid tiers. Second Coil Savage was an even *more* intense escalation of what are now called "savage" raids (though nowhere near Ultimate). Even stranger, they provided no additional rewards other than achievements, and could be tackled in any order (and indeed, T7 Savage is generally thought of as the hardest, with T9/Nael being slightly below that). It was essentially a prototype for today's Ultimate raids. Doesn't really change anything in the video at all (other than the fact that the standard T9 Nael encounter also had a death wall) but I think it's interesting context!
It's nitpicky but very important. It's also super interesting in its origins - Savage Coil was the *intended* design of second coil that the developers nerfed before formal release. When the devs mentioned that the super tough content had released in an 'easier' state, players called for the release of the unedited version, which is how Savage was born. It's a super important step in the evolution of 14's difficulty curve and it feels odd to just sorta be so... blase about it. All of the 14 stuff, as a vet, feels intensely... reductive, moreso than a lot of the others.
@@GarlyleWilds To be fair FF Union doesn't play FF14 from my understanding and it can be difficult to keep track of all of the raids and modes it has due to the sheer volume of content if you're not immersed in the game and its raiding community. FF14 dedicated channels handle that sort of discussion fine, I think the way FFU handles it from an outsider looking in perspective is fine for the type of video he's going for, and its much better than his coverage of FF14 in the past.
Yeah there were a fair amount of mistakes and misordering on the introduction of things in the FFXIV sections (though other games likely suffer from these errors as well). One of the biggest things I feel was left out was the introduction of "savage only phases" with winged Brute Justice in A8S added in 3.2. A12S was impressive but it followed roughly the same phase pattern as A12 just with more complex mechanics. On the other hand A8S was the first to include a phase exclusive to Savage that would be come the norm for the final boss of raid sections through the Omega, Eden and Pandemonium raids.
@@TheVenhammer Much better, yeah, but its still inaccurate and it makes it hard to take anything serious when it doesn't seem like he cares to consult people who play a game if he doesn't. Trying to force XIV into the mold of this kind of video really kinda ruined the flow and idea of the advancement of the super boss mechanic.
This was amazing, really worth watching the whole series. Thank you for doing such a thorough examination of the subject, and I can't wait to see the next one. PS: I didn't know about The Shadow Within! I wanna fight it now!
With the final part of the remake trilogy coming soon. We'll might see the fully operational version of Pride and Joy with Scarlett's and Heiddeger's last stand
I really like the video, but the Alexander part was a bit over the top perhaps. Unless I'm affected by some sort of mandela effect and this really was one of the first ever instances of an addphase, in that case someone correct me please.
All of the final raid bosses other than Manipulator had add phases too yeah I suppose it is the first time the main boss fully disappeared in a way, but that's a big stretch
The 72 hours thing for adamantoise was taken out of context though. It was explained after that they meant 72 in game hours. Still took me an hour and a half to take it down though
Dang...FFXI was shafted again. The Master Trial they showed wasn't even part of Rhapsodies of Vanadiel, that Master Trial was from The Voracious Resurgence!
FF15 got the shaft too. Its actually the game with the most amount of superbosses within single player final fantasy. Theres like 10 in that game that are level 100 and if you could the optional challenges in the dlc theres more because those are actually harder than anything in the base game by alot. You can gameover really easy in some of the dlc scenarios
@@snuggie1849 XIV got the shaft too, he completly mispresented the game, got a lot of information wrong, and labeled some easy fights as 'super bosses' which doesn't even make sense for any fight in XIV.
@@TemLightKiBlade well a superboss can still be easy if its hard relative to the game but i get what your saying. Still i think they should have consulted the ff wiki more for better info. Also theres a secret supeboss in the four heroes of light they didnt mention in any of these vids so far.
@@silverhand9965 He in fact did not. Many issues as they seem to lack knowledge about XIV. Odin fate was added in 2.0 so when they talked about the adding they were talking about the trial added in 2.5. The trail isn't an EX fate, its a normal one so its not even in the 'super boss' kind of thing he seemed to want to talk about. Overall they shouldn't have talked mmos, they don't fit a super boss mold and in general they know nothing about XIV apart from wikis and gameplay footage.
@@TemLightKiBlade Yeah, realisticly the only thing that could fit in XIV would be ultimate raids, and those require genuine knowledge of how the game works to properly explain
I honestly thought the VR endgame gauntlets from FF7 Rebirth counted as Superbosses, fighting multiple rounds of summons/special enemies with no checkpoints in-between and a limited party was probably the hardest challenge I've ever faced in a videogame (especially Bonds of Friendship and the perfect execution needed for Odin)
Am I forgetting a previous video mentioning Final Fantasy 14's The Weapon's Refrain Ultimate (Ultima Weapon Ultimate or UWU as the community refers to it usually)? It should be somewhere between UCOB and TEA assuming it's all chronological.
For FFRK, there are a lot of bosses, especially the newer ones introduced, that are a lot harder than the two chosen, though. Though I'm surprised that Gloom Primal Titan from FFXIV event featuring the debut of Alisaie wasn't included if you're only focusing event only bosses. You need strong wind dps because you NEED Wind DPS check especially because you are fighting him via the rules of the raid, that also includes phase 2 where you have to destroy the heart. Ultimate+ Primal Ifrit due to the Nail requirements. As for other content, especially from the JP vers, final bosses from Crystal, new magicites ( Eden, Crusader, Arc (Mecha vers.), Baha. Zero, etc.), Dragonking Bahamut ( especially XI DK), any Labyrinth boss, and Yojimbo from Spiraling Depths event can count as superbosses. Hope this is useful for part 6.
We've seen iconic Summon monsters become superbosses many times before but how long until iconic superbosses become Summons? Where can I get that Ozma Summon Materia? It'd be really cool imo.
Goddamn, bringing up Brave Frontier? Those are good memories, I genuinely think that it had one of the best stories I’ve read, that being more the lore in regards and what it surrounds; excited for the community remake project of it a lot, and yeah, Maxwell had several different trials in BF and her final one was in what was called the “Strategy Zone”, which were trials where you built up 15 of your own units and 3 friend units for extremely difficult on release fights. I just have good memories of the game, it had incredible music too
I know it's petty, given that this series was a huge undertaking and it has been a delight to see each video, but skipping Opera Omnia altogether when the hard fights had interesting (if sometimes infuriating) mechanics makes me so sad :( DFFOO deserved better.
Having just beat him this week. I was kinda disappointed by Gilgamesh is rebirth. Much the same as Pride & Joy in Remake, the lead up was much tougher with the teamed up summons. I do have to go back to Remake and face Weiss though.
I am a little surprised, but not displeased, that you never made a side not that super bosses appear in many non FF SquareEnix games such as super mario rpg and kingdom hearts. Or at least I don't recall.

Retire the overuse of the word "intriguing," very grandiose for what is just gameplay mechanics. Also using "never before seen" when describing raid mechanics that existed in WoW before 2010 is a huge stretch, too.

I took two years to train for Omega in FFXV Royal Edition.
*Training Montage sold separately*
The Gilgamesh fight in FF7 Rebirth is so much fun.
man i miss record keeper
Make sure I'm subscribed, hit the like button...now I can watch the video. Loving the series and all the content.
U made me sad, reminding me of the best mobile game ever! FFRK was soooo good! I miss it so much! Rip US servers.
Babe wake up New Final Fanatsy Union video at 1:30AM!
With the final part of the remake trilogy coming soon. We'll might see the fully operational version of Pride and Joy with Scarlett's and Heiddeger's last stand
Nice work !
I really like the video, but the Alexander part was a bit over the top perhaps. Unless I'm affected by some sort of mandela effect and this really was one of the first ever instances of an addphase, in that case someone correct me please.
All of the final raid bosses other than Manipulator had add phases too yeah
I suppose it is the first time the main boss fully disappeared in a way, but that's a big stretch
This series has been so interesting great job as always love to all the ff family ❤
You confused the Odin Fate and Odin Ex Trial.
Probably just didn't have footage for the FATE, given how infrequently it spawns
As a writer of TTRPG adventures I am very intrigued by this concept. My players are not going to like my new ideas.
I was waiting for this because of World of FF's Garland. Chaos is spreading everywhere. Jack was right.
Hey! You finally covered one i was able to beat! I mean, i beat him on normal mood, but still🎉
can you make or start a new series about Ivalice? I love your channel
I just have good memories of the game, it had incredible music too
Endwalker was delayed a little bit because of Covid
I know it's petty, given that this series was a huge undertaking and it has been a delight to see each video, but skipping Opera Omnia altogether when the hard fights had interesting (if sometimes infuriating) mechanics makes me so sad :( DFFOO deserved better.
Having just beat him this week. I was kinda disappointed by Gilgamesh is rebirth. Much the same as Pride & Joy in Remake, the lead up was much tougher with the teamed up summons. I do have to go back to Remake and face Weiss though.
It's ok, Weiss, a lot of people share a weakness to Tifa
I am a little surprised, but not displeased, that you never made a side not that super bosses appear in many non FF SquareEnix games such as super mario rpg and kingdom hearts. Or at least I don't recall.
I held the 3rd highest score for about a month and a half agest the shadow within b4 my spot was staged after that I stoped playing ff16 as much to be fair I only did as good as I did agest the shadow within due to i was selected as one of the 125 people that got to test it b4 it came out to make sure it wast t9 hard and their wast any bug or issues with it.
Just killed Gogo from FF5 without reflect or rapid fire 🎉😅
I always felt like World of Final Fantasy was a better attempt at Final Fantasy Unlimited
lol..."hi cup" instead of "hic up"!?
Hike up
Who’s character was Sean Cody!? 😂 ifykyk
Exvius was a lot of fun before it got crazy greedy.
Very challenging. Great story. Then Freyvia changed the whole game.
Everything went to shit
Evolution of FFXIV Super Bosses, way too much fourteen
Retire the overuse of the word "intriguing," very grandiose for what is just gameplay mechanics. Also using "never before seen" when describing raid mechanics that existed in WoW before 2010 is a huge stretch, too.
Just like the game itself, XVI's super boss was a massive disappointment.
Not to be mean but ff11 or 14 aren’t your demographic
