Of all the videos I've watched to address the leaking toilet problem, you are the only one that identified the problem I suspected after I replaced the fill valve and flapper and it still leaked but didn't know to fix it. Your demonstration has saved me an expensive plumber bill! Thank you.

Thank you very much. I followed all directions and it was still leaking. I uninstalled and reinstalled four times thinking I did something wrong. I gave up and was going to call a plumber. But- I came back here and rewatched and voila - my test (the test you show ) proved my parts were broken. Ah ha! I’m not one to give up easily so I went back to Home Depot and bought another one. Prepared the room for the work. Tools, buckets, etc.
within FIVE minutes my toilet was fixed!! It flushed, filled and the water actually shut off. I am so proud of myself. My husband was the type who fixed anything and everything But he died two years ago. I’m on my own now at 61. I always worked alongside him, fetching him things which taught me the names of tools, and taking mental notes. I put your video and his tools to work and did a perfect job. Last week I fixed my AC leak. It’s been a week of running water. Thanks to you guys on UA-cam for sharing your knowledge and helping us learn as well
as saving a lot of money I Very much appreciate it.

**Edited to add: Home Depot has an awesome return policy. If what you bought happened to be broken (or even broke as you were installing it), they usually return/exchange no questions asked. You don't even need a receipt if you paid with a card of any sort. Also, in the last 7 or 8 years, I've noticed Home Depot has more female employees and the judgy, crotchety old men types have aged out. It's much more pleasant to shop there now.**
I love that feeling so much!!! I'm a female in my 30s for reference, but I had two grandpas growing up that couldn't have cared less about my gender when I wanted to follow them around fixing things (one was an electrician, one was a carpenter, both dabbled in plumbing enough to fix most home stuff).
The thing I learned the most was how when they didn't know how to do something, they just kept tinkering and persisting until they figured it out. I didn't understand just how significant that was until I was much older and see that most people don't have that skill or determination what-so-ever.
I asked for power tools instead of wedding china when I got married. I still have the tools while the husband is long gone. The only thing I miss from him being around: not having to kill bugs. Last summer I discovered a salt gun. Highly recommend with a glass of wine on a summer evening.

This is great. Cutting out part of the tank was genius. People need to see what's going on in these videos. Too many show you AFTER they've replaced whatever they've replaced or you can't really see what's going on.

While I saw people make jokes, I admire your intuitively genius teaching skill to cut out the front of the tank purely for the purpose of transparency to explain it SO EASY TO UNDERSTAND AS A PIECE OF CAKE!! I appreciate YOUR TALENT AND GOOD WORK.
Without you do that cut off the front of the tank, it's hard to explain the inside water on-off mechanism of the tank. I know how stupid students do not appreciate their good teachers!!

I have experienced all the issues; toilets intimidate me! 😅 Such a detailed video- this will definitely help me in the future to diy my own repair and the tip to keeping all the old parts for references is a great one! An old tank bolt washer had come loose or ripped during a time a relative volunteered to replace the toilet parts and caused a major leak (I couldn’t figure out where it was dripping from and had to call a plumber who charged me almost $200 to change the bolt/washer 😭 The damage had been done and our living room flooring, bsmt ceilings/walls were soaked. Had to replace all flooring and it was thousands of dollars worth to fix. Wish I knew about those bolts!

not a "phillips head in tank" but a "Flat Head" screwdriver in tank. I am having trouble with mine leaking and finding a gasket that fits the "large nut" on the bottom of tank. The 2" type does not work for me. Will try your technique of 2 washer gaskets with the steel flat washer only on the outside of the tank. I was putting a steel washer on both sides, inside of tank under screwhead of the bolt and the outside. Thanks for the video.
