I almost skipped this video but even though I've done this job several times myself, I learned quite a bit. Thanks! Something to watch out for though - both my toilets had shutoff valves that failed this year. There are some good videos on how to deal with that problem. And always make sure you know where the house water shutdown is before you start - in case something goes wrong.

Awesome comprehensive video! I had to replace my inlet valve 2 wks ago because the rubber seal was worn through and I couldn't find a replacement seal. Wish I knew about the funny noise it made before it stopped flushing completely (on a Saturday afternoon after all the shops had closed, please note!) Our area has bad water pressure, so I didn't suspect the problem was with the valve seal or even the toilet altogether. Now I know and will be better prepared next time by listening for the noise! Be blessed!

Super job guys and this really helps. I missed a step one time and the plumber came out to adjust the water level and said all is well, he did it right just had wrong water level, this covers it all now really appreciate you all.

Great video, I have made this repairs at home and there a lot of things I didn’t know, unfortunately in my new home I have one of those toilets with a central button Instead of a flapper, and It’s not as straight forward as the flapper one, it would be great to see a video explaining the button system.
great video learned a lot, thanks

I think I am going to load this on my Phone and then share it to my Landlord! one of the toilets { above or below} has a flapper leak issue and on occasion runs. He might get the hint or not, BUT I learned and am keeping this in my save file!

I find it easier to remove the tank from the toilet. Putting in the fill and flush valve is much easier on a bench than being bent over and on your hands and knees leaning over the bowl. You can replace the tank seal as well which will be just like the flapper and supply hose seals - worn and corroded. Then you have a completely rebuilt toilet.

He's very clear and thorough. Great explanation to newbies. Yes, change out supply line for sure, mine leaked and flooded the bathroom and spare rooms. Luckily, got the shop vac in time to suck up all the water. If I wasn't home to turn off the valve, would've flooded the entire house.

I learned it the hard way (trial and error). This is good info for DIYer wanna be (didn't mean it in a bad way). It's always intimidating when you do it the 1st time even on the simplest project. After walking my sister thru the flapper replacement process, she was so proud that she did it all by herself. Took about 15 minutes on the phone explaining but it beats hiring a person to do during the peak of a pandemic.

Replaced them numerous times over the years, didn’t use any dye tabs just powdered kool-aid. A lot of toilets still use the hollow ball on an arm fill valve and can be trickier to adjust be cause it can’t touch the sides of the tank as well as adjusting its fill level.

You forgot a video on how to replace the Flush Valve. I believe you have to remove the tank in order to untighten the nut. One thing I really hate is that sponge gasket that you use to connect the tank to the lower half. That is a *&$# to seat and I hate to use too much pressure thinking that I will crack the porcelain. Any tips?

This is a great video, but unless if I missed it, I didn't see the master plumber demonstrating to check the flapper compartment to make sure it's clean before installing the replacement flapper. If there is dirt on the rim of the flapper compartment the flapper will not operate correctly.

(I was worried when the toilet was being flushed.....missed the part showing what happened after the "water solidifier" was added. Did that add convenience if the toilet had to be removed, but the "solid water" is easily flushable?)

Really like this video. Worth noting that the valve seal mentioned as a possible cause for that hissing sound can be replaced far more cheaply than replacing the entire fill valve. It’s also important to ensure the top of the fill valve doesn’t extend too high above the hole for the flush handle or you could get water rising to that level and creating a leak.

Thank you SO much for this video! I have two Sterling toilets that I needed to change flappers on, and I simply could not get the length right, nor figure out which of the three holes to put the chain in. On one of them, the water was filling up to the top of the overflow pipe, so I turned the fill valve counterclockwise to try to lower it, but it didn't change. And what's worse, the water started running constantly even after the fill valve rose up. So now I've turned the water off and I'm going to replace the fill valve. And if that doesn't work, I'm calling a plumber. I hate to do that, but these things are giving me fits!

Recently in town visiting my dad and replaced all the, “guts” in his toilet so I had to remove the tank. All went well until it came time to tighten the tank to the base. I could not get the water to stop leaking through the three mounting bolts. Basically I was concerned that I was going to overtighten and crack the base. I was also suspicious of the washers in that I felt that they would never provide a good seal. Long story short, I paid a plumber 250.00 to fix a leak. I’ll look and see what he replaced the next time in town. It will be great if you do a video before I go home again so I can see what my mistake was.
