    If you're having problems with dragons try a fortify marksman potion.
    The ingredients are
    1 Juniper berries
    2 canis root
    3 elves ear
    4 spider egg
    Any 2 mixed will work.

    It's probably been said, but the Imperial Bow is upgraded with Steel, making it a Steel Bow. I don't know exactly what your definition of a "real" bow entails, but if you properly upgrade a Hunting Bow with leather strips and put a nice Greater fire enchantment (10 pts.) on it, it can get you by until about level 18 with ease. However, if you just have to have a "real" bow, there's an Elven Bow in a case in the Companions' Mead Hall under an expert lock that you can go straight to. It's in the room where you first meet Skjor after you give Aela her shield. There's also a Moonstone node by the south wall of Whiterun, almost to the broken pillar with the chest on it. It's down on the flat, closer to the road to Valtheim. It gives it a nice little boost, even at level two. I really need a hobby, or a friend, or a goldfish. Hold me.

    • @Wariyaka
      @Wariyaka 7 років тому +3

      The Imperial Bow does not benefit from the Smith Steel perk even though it uses steal for upgrades, however, Ancient Nord bows and Forsworn bows do benefit from the perk and I'm pretty sure Hunting Bows do too even if they use leather strips to upgrade.
      At time he did this video though it quite possible there where no bows benefiting from the steel perk at all and there are still no bows in the game that can be crafted by the player with only the steel perk.

    • @stankfanger1366
      @stankfanger1366 7 років тому

      Wariyaka I guess the Imperial Bow just upgrades based on your overall smithing skill then, if the perk doesn't affect it, because I know I've taken them to Epic and Legendary before. I can confirm that the Hunting Bow also upgrades to multiple levels.

    • @Wariyaka
      @Wariyaka 7 років тому

      Young Frankenstein Yes, I don't think the smith perks raise any caps on how high you can boost the gear just the rate at witch you do it. With strong enough smithing skill, enchantment boosts and alchemy potions you can still upgrade stuff to über-legendary without the relevant perk, it just take a bit more effort from the other boost avenues. For full playthroughs on legendary difficulty I would recommend getting at least the steel and arcane smithing perks almost regardless of build though some purer mage builds can probably do just fine without them too.

    They changed the archery damage formula to include the damage from the arrows additively with the base damage from the bow before any multipliers. The exact formula is on the wikis if people are interested. But what that means is that higher damage arrows are more significant now than they were before.

    Archery actually kinda sucks against dragons. At least, that's been my experience. You can fight them face to face but they'll demolish you with their magic, breath and that instant kill grab they sometimes use. But if you stay back, try to stealth and keep your distance most of the time they'll just fly around and be impossible to hit. Or they'll simply fly away altogether not even giving you the chance to even fight them. There is nothing more frustrating than wasting thirty of your best arrows on a dragon only to have them take off and fly right off into the sunset.

    Archery tips from a relative n00b (on XBox360):
    1. If you want to cap damage to arrows, your effective range of damage is *zero* arrow bonus all the way up to Dragonbone. Zero-damage arrows (practice arrows) are available for free at Angi's, on the mountain directly above and slightly southwest of Falkreath.
    2. You can recover some arrows without the 'take' command, if an enemy has hit you with them. They are automatically added to your inventory. If you can withstand a few hits, it amounts to 'catching' them. This might be effective in upgrading your damage a few points if your enemy is using superior arrows.
    3. If enemies are facing you, but unaware of your presence due to sneaking, shoot the back ranks first. This will often induce enemies to turn their backs to you and increase their distance from you, increasing the duration of your effective sneaking. It may only buy you an extra second or so, but when outnumbered, that can matter.
    4. The video above doesn't mention the use of poisoned weapons, especially bows. I tend to favor Ravage Health poisons for particularly healthy enemies on the first shot. It's sometimes the difference between killing and dying. I've also found uses for Slow and Paralyze poisons which don't eat up magicka or soul gem recharges on enchanted weapons.

    • @dominiccampbell181
      @dominiccampbell181 9 років тому +1

      I noted this above, but your fourth point goes well with one I use myself. I used imp stool, canis root, and deathbell to make a poison, and it created a paralysis poison that also does health damage.

    One weird thing about the bull's eye perk is that it appears to trigger when the arrow is released rather than when it hits. I have missed plenty of long shots with an archer build because my target was paralysed and fell to the ground before the arrow reached them. I don't know if this was because I was using a bound bow or if it's just the game being weird.

      thats why I prefer going alchemy, not only does it give you shit tons of gold but it also gives extremely useful and powerful potions and poisons, I can make a 24 second long Paralysis poison with just canis root and Imp stool which cost less than 50 gold I believe, plus I can also make a drain health poison which my best one dioes 25 hp dmg per second for 10 seconds. alchmey can be super crazy and super useful, my only ussie with the Paralysis Poison is that it doesnt work on draugr, not like the Bulls Eye perk at least.

    I wish Headshots would be a 100% Critical Hit so you actually wanna aim for the head its hard but if you can manage it you do x2 the damage instead of shot 2 shots at the chest

    • @mwjd8112
      @mwjd8112 5 років тому

      haven't you heard from him what critical strikes actually do in skyrim? they just increase 2x the BASE damage of the weapon that u crit with, f.ex. when u crit with weapon that has 12 dmg base but its legendary ubgraded to 100, you will only deal 2x the dmg of base value so 12 dmg x 2, and this 100 was the damage from legendary ubgrade + the base value, that means while u crit strike with that weapon you will only deal 112 dmg instead of 100

      Yea its fine if your going for a pure archer.Do note on difficulties like Legendary(which should always be your goal as game is too easy) Archery is slightly impractical and is the 2nd worst offensive skill to rely on next to Destruction magic being the worst, and if your using a stealth build getting a follower is also impractical because they pretty much take away your stealth even if they are stealth based themselves, but without a follower unless your very skilled and experienced you will struggle horribly because your arrows will just tickle your enemies and they will kill you in one hit, so if you wanna focus on stealth remember always assault on the night, just keep clearing drougr places or even Falmer if you can manage, turn into a vampire for added stealth as you can always remove it, finally get good gear, I have played full runs of Archery only on Legendary and it can be loads of fun if you know how to use it but compared to other routes it is one of the worst.Best ones are Breton Battlemages that use a mixture of conjuration, followers, sword and shield and duel wielding Orcs that use tanky followers and/or stealth.

      MISTAKEWASMADE4live legendary difficulty easy with destruction magic. Just get a ton of fortify destruction and you do insane damage casting fireball over and over or ice storm

      Phooka Pica That's pretty end game stuff, I don't like boosting trade skills until the very end of the game its too easy otherwise

      100% cost reduction + Impact makes the game boringly easy with Destruction.
      It's not at all limited to end game; it's very easy to grind craft skills at relatively low level. The fact that crafting was so ridiculously overpowered was a massive design flaw: it trivialised the game if you used those skills (even just within the normal limits, without abusing feedback loops), but they were so useful that avoiding them was not much fun.

    I explained the arrow damage. Hidden bonus does help, sure, but that fits more into sneaking. For what has the most impact in archery mechanics, it's the drawback time.

    When opponent gets close to you, you can use the shout become ethereal to charge your bow up. Pulling the string of your bow doesn't count as attack so it won't disable the shout. Utilitize this against dragons when they try to use fire or frost breath on you.
    If you have lots of room to maneuver around your enemy but they caught you, use the shout fus ro dah or whirlwind sprint to get away from them. Typically useful against many opponents at once.
    Hope this helps even after 8 years of skyrim release tho.

    Just to note, after Patch 1.5, when kill cams were introduced to magical attacks and bow attacks, there is a glitch in the archery kill cam when Bullseye is enabled. When the shot would kill in one hit, the target is paralyzed before the arrow impacts, paralyzing the target and effectively enabling the target to dodge the arrow.

    Something that also helps early people trying to get levels is enchanting your bow with fire damage, and making weakness to fire poisons, or whatever element you fancy, but fire will do the most damage. On top of the smithing to make the bow, you also get the experience from enchanting and alchemy, and it's a good boost to damage for until you have the perks/skills to use bows more effectively. Juniper berries have the weakness to fire ingredient thing, as do bleeding crowns, which are both easy to find and pretty cheap if you can't. Ice wraith teeth as well, if you find any.
    On that alchemy note, it's actually a really good way to earn money fast, especially with the merchant perk. You can take two ingredients that are less than 10 septims each to buy, add another that's still under 20, and you can sell that potion for a huge recovery. I tend to make ones that sell for between 150 and 400 apiece, with some being able to be up to 500 or more, all with ingredients that were less than 40 each to buy, if I used three "expensive" ones, which is rare. Plus there are tons of stuff you can just find.

    You can find an elven bow at any level in the companions basement area. There is also an archery skill book, and they're both locked by an (I believe) expert level lock in a display case.

    This has probably already been mentioned below- but there is a copy of the bound Bow spell tome hidden in Fort Amol Prison. It is hidden in a basket. the only problem is that it costs so much to cast in the early game you will need some enchanted magika items to use it.

    Any chance you could do videos on the two new skyrim DLCs, you know, go over the details and potential uses of the new content ? Your skyrim videos are , by far, the most detailed and helpful on youtube, it is a shame you stopped.
    I can imagine it takes time to do such a methodical analysis, even more to present it in a concisse way, but please consider it.

    If you wann get an Elven bow relatively early in the game go to the Companion's building in Whiterun (or fast-travel to Dragonsreach and look for the dome shaped building on the left) go to the basement and find a display case in the huntress's room. It's lock is Expert so I would suggest bringing alot of picks along.
