    I have a 2007 gu patrol . Strictly weekends and left loaded . Kids are grown up and grandies should be years away . With no use for the back seats I removed them . I mounted a piece of marine ply to the floor and used two bits to create a full length bed from the drawers to the front seats . Blends right in if you carpet as well . Having a bad back it’s allowed me to keep a single swag laid out permanently so I can pull up for a rest anytime I’m sore . I’ve mounted the fridge facing the rear passenger window , so I only need to lift the lid for access . The storage area under the bed now contains things I struggled to get on and off the roof rack .

    Mate, I'm settling in - but it best be a 1 beer length video, or I'll blow up.

    Your MCC rear bar is shit but that's an old one, if you buy anything MCC made within the past 6 months or so it should be near / as good as a ARB, for less than half the price. After saying that....Kaymar is still by far the best but be prepared to remortgage your house.

      Damien Beckett I've heard nothing but good about the 4.0 petrol in these things. Tough as nails and plenty of power. Bit thirstier than a diesel prado of course, but Dylon's prado is very close to matching mine for economy and he's got 3 times the power!

    I know they were widely regarded as under-powered but I loved this motor despite this. The silky delivery was head and shoulders above the hair triggered ZD30 imho. Just a pity they suffered from working so hard all day every day. Another few hundred cubes would have made them ideal,

      +AaronGoPro they can be reliable or they can be a proper shit. I am very happy with how mine went over the 6 years I owned her. The injector pump issue you read about is certainly true, as is the harmonic balancer bolt problem. And the head cracking doesn't seem to be as common but does happen on some of them

    great videos bud! just bought a 2.8.. carried out egr blank and now thinking of putting on a 3inch exhaust! does your exhaust have and mufflers or is it striaght through? is it annoying on freeway/ long drives? mine is a daily so dont want a head ache everyday lol also i have a 2inch lift thinking of upgrading to 3 inch.. would u recomend it or is it not worth the hassle? thanks

    • @Alex.G
      @Alex.G  9 років тому +1

      +Shesnodturbo sir thanks for the comment mate! Yeah my exhaust has a single muffler and I wouldn't have it any other way. Straight through gives you so much drone, but with the one muffler it's a dream. As for the lift, it depends on the driving you plan on doing. My previous truck used to be driven hard and the 3 inch was awesome, but I will be sticking with 2 inch for the next one I think. The step from 2 to 3 inch makes it handle like a boat.

    • @shesnodturbosir5514
      @shesnodturbosir5514 9 років тому

      Great mate thanks! Been looking for a few on gumtree but have come across a 3inch with no muffler cheap so in 2 minds what to do! I think il leave the lift for now and try some 33s.. Plan to camp at Dwellingup over the weekend so sound be a good test!

    • @Alex.G
      @Alex.G  9 років тому

      Shesnodturbo sir yeah well get it cheap enough and you can always see how you go with it, if it's too bad you can pay an exhaust shop to whack a muffler in it, shouldn't cost too much. Yeah give the 33's a go, they're a good size tyre and you only need 2 inch to fit em on a GU

    Great video!! Have you ran 35s on the 2.8TD? I have been looking at the 4.5 GU and noticed that the 2.8 is around the same price nowadays, but I am fairly keen on running 35s with lockers, but some people have said that they don't handle 35s well?

    • @Alex.G
      @Alex.G  9 років тому

      Rickstaaaa87 I haven't run 35's on it, mine is slow enough with 33's. I know a lot of 2.8 guys say they barely noticed a difference between 33 and 35 though. I think you'd want reduction gears, especially if you want to play around on real low range technical tracks.

    ohhh its 2.8 6 cylinder engine not good on the smaller engines last and first time I drove a brand new patrol 2.8 6 had head problems and kept on having head problems and its rarer than the last 6 cylinder 4.2 gu wagon produced man that's a nice gu patrol that Alex had pity Nissan don't make the 6 cylinders diesels any more i will keep my gu Ute forever or till it dies my first gu I had didn't last long rebuild after 6 months of owning it no warranty nada i should have bought the last new 6 cylinder Ute in western Australia for $55 000

    • @Alex.G
      @Alex.G  3 роки тому

      Yeah they were known for head problems but even more common was the crank and harmonic balancer issues. Luckily I had an excellent run with this one and it was incredibly reliable! As I have found with all the patrols I've owned actually

    • @Alex.G
      @Alex.G  8 років тому +1

      It wasn't pretty mate! I never properly calculated it with the roof top tent on but I reckon it was about 16-17 litres per hundred. Terrible aerodynamics! A V8 turbo diesel 79 series fully loaded and heavier than me once got better fuel economy!

    Hi, great video, just got a 4.5Ltr GU with the works (3" lift on Maxxis bighorn 33's, duel battery's, duel fuel, LED bar lights, 12,000LB winch, black widow storage with power at the back) and all the other bits needed, but I would like to know how you did the airbag glove box (the space is there but the air bag isn't)
    Thanks

    • @Alex.G
      @Alex.G  9 років тому

      Iron Forge Knives Sounds pretty flash mate! With the second glove box I can't remember exactly how you remove the cover from the top, but I'm pretty sure it involved removing the original glove box and taking a couple of screws out. Behind it is a big blank piece of white plastic, you have to mark that up and cut it out, then measure up the space behind it and build a box (I used 12mm ply and carpeted it). You can screw the box to the crash bar behind the dash. I have just a couple of screws in the lid to hinge it.
      If you need to know more, search it up on patrol4x4.com, there are heaps of different ideas on there!

    • @gt0915
      @gt0915 9 років тому +1

      Hi thanks for the reply. already joined the patrol 4x4 group just have to post pics so people can have a look and see what needs doing extra, not looking at the extreme 4x4ring but a bit of mud running and camping and the boys weekend out. I know I'm the 3rd owner and the guy I "swapped" for it wasn't a 4WD kind of guy, he just liked the look of it and didn't take it off road at all. I would love to put in an air compressor as there is the space behind the rear seats and the pull out sliding draws (running off the 2nd battery in the back).

    Hey Intents, I'm looking to get a RD28 GU patrol for a first car and was wondering if they would be good on fuel and things?

    • @Alex.G
      @Alex.G  4 роки тому +1

      In this full spec she wasn't easy on the fuel, up around the 15 litres per hundred on the highway at best 😬 my short answer is that a 2004 onwards 3 litre patrol is quite affordable now, and they aren't as likely to blow up as the earlier models. Search for a well looked after one of those, do some of the protection mods, don't thrash it too hard and you'll have a vehicle good for 10-12 litres per hundred, with enough power and should be quite reliable 🙂

    • @cars4dummies235
      @cars4dummies235 4 роки тому +1

      @@Alex.G Ok, thanks. If I can't find a 04 onwards 3 litre Patrol in my budget, would the Rd28 still be good? The one I'm looking at has a boost controller, 3 inch pipe, lift kit, tyres, rear drawers and a roofrack so not bad for $6k!
