I really love the way you have shown and explained everything. I was complicating my 12v design but now I am quite clear with the idea :).......Thank you so much for the time and effort.
Great Video mate. Later this year when time permits, I’m pulling the entire 12v system out of my patrol and starting again. There’s a lot of redundant wires, an amp under each front seat and redundant wires to the back. I’m working on the KISS principle and keeping it bush proof. Very similar set up to yours, but with a lithium in the rear as a third battery only for a weight saving as the old patrol Snoopy is near on GVM already, couple bcdc chargers, wanna be able to link the start and aux. batteries. Be good to get it simplified 🙂
you've got a good 12v setup . mine is quite similar to yours but without the 3rd battery in the rear which is what definitely makes having dual batteries worthwhile . I don't have solar or regulators yet tho . . I like your guage the color wheel helps indicator instead of remembering voltage numbers. I use a ABR side winder link voltage display switch and isolator .

12 volts come a loooong way over the years. I remember 15ish years ago when mates started getting fridges and I swore I'd never get one (still haven't) with all the troubles they'd always have needing jump starts, idling cars at camp, clutch starting, moving solar panels, melting wires. Something about 12 volt worries me, I'm happy to modify just about anything, engine conversions, turbos etc etc but the electronics I like factory and I don't really know why. Maybe one day I'll get some kind of set up and it will definitely be very very simple one like this.... I'm a bit of a tight arse.
Interesting mate! What do you do, just use an esky? With everything being fused and correct size wiring applied, there’s a certain guarantee any setup will be safe as houses.
@@westralianoffroad yeah the Esky is still king for me 👍👍. One day I'll take the plunge and get a duel battery and a fridge. I guess when we were 20ish noone really did anything the right way and it seemed more hassle than it was worth at the time.

Really enjoy your approach to this topic (and the rest of your content!!). I will never be able to consider the expensive set-ups a lot of the others show, but after seeing this I reckon I will give it a go in the not to distant future. You may not agree, and I do not mean to offend, but I have a bit of a thing for shovels facing with the handle to the back of the vehicle. If your rig is like mine, there is not a great deal of pressure from acceleration, but heaps when under full braking on the highway (like when someone cuts you off and then brakes) getting to the start of my bush time. A mate had the shovel holder fail and the thing went into the car in front like a bullet. I just reckon that having it the other way, if something fails, it at least has to fully brake the mounts before it is free. Hopefully slowing it down or changing it's angle. Just something to consider. Again, really enjoy your channel and your approach to life.
Yeah mate I understand your sentiment. I did have the shovel around the other way until I put the rear awning on. I had to put it on the way you now see it as it will only slide in from the front. Interestingly, apparently the way it’s mounted now is the “legal” way to have it mounted. Make of that what you will.
100% mate, less is more and keep it simple. Dont have it any more complicated than you can fix yourself. Some of the megabuck systems you see that have become fashionable are just ridiculous. Although I admit Ive just converted my dead AGM battery to lithium and it really is a game changer, so light and twice the usable power. Same system though, nice and simple just a battery change.
I think I've settled on doing something similar for my gu With that set up, are you able to leave your fridge in the car running 24/7 or would that require more solar and/or driving every second or third day? My gu doesn't get used much during the week but gets all of the attention on weekends. So if I can just let the 12v system take care of the fridge during the week, get in and go on the weekends then this will tick all of my boxes Cheers for the video mate, can't beat simplicity

Obviously I was aware of a few options I had, but went with what I’ve done. The alt. was very much full of mud with signs of dirty water - it was cactus confidently from previous on track punishment. If a problem like you say presents itself later down the track I’ll look into it. I have no reason to think there is any cause for concern though.
@@westralianoffroad ok was thinking of upgrading mine to the roadsafe 140amp & found that factory wiring is good for 100amp fuse is also 100amp, so if i did go that way i would have to run another cable/fuse, mines a 05 TD42
Nah mate you need 4 lithiums, 3000 watt inverter, 6 induction cookers, 36 lights, 12 fridges, only costs $20k.. woops sorry was just watching every 4wd show on tv. Your system very similar to mine. Keep it simple stupid. My 2 tips: anderson plug everything & keep a "bible" of wiring, accessories, etc

Good question! I have it all running up by the snorkel in conduit piping. Tucks in very nicely - you wouldn’t know it’s there.

That’s correct mate. The DCDC has the dollar manager built in.
Why 3 batteries? Might be the cause for alternator failing. Need to upgrade the alternator to meet the higher current demand.
