I have the 02 GU 3.0 and I run cas evac in Donbas Ukraine. This is a rough tractor and very hard on my body on normal roads, in the mod and bump and I need power and speed, and torque( a lot of towing in the mud) it’s the best! My 06 3.2 Pajaro got blown up in August, it was so comfortable and with the off road tires it was almost as good. This patrol was donated to me, the American actually gave me a choice of model. Looking back, I’d have another Pajaro! Just for comfort and convenience inside the cab.
Bit late but I was only introduced to this channel recently. I have owned a 2004 patrol with the 3 liter engine for over 10 years now, awesome car, loved mostly every minute. There are cup holders in the back seat you just have to fold down the back armrest. The only bad point about the car is the front cup-holders. I think you could fit two of those really thin energy drink cans in them but not much else. I have an aftermarket one that fits in beautifully.
I have 3d printed a unit that goes over the factory shitty cupholders and gives you better cupholders (you can find it in thingiverse). It is not perfect but its a thousand times better than without it. I will probably end up designing something specifically for my needs (my water bottle is a 1 liter one, so it doesnt fit even in the new ones)
A good review, thanks for that. I have a 2008 CRD 3.0L auto that I bought in 2011 as an ex NSW Police vehicle at 62,000 km. It’s a DX hence only a 5 seater and has vinyl floor and not carpet which suits me fine. It now has 163,500 km and has towed our camper on long trips to the Oz outback. It’s a great car on the open road and outback but a bit of a beast to maneuver around supermarket car parks. I service it myself apart from the auto transmission that I outsource to a specialist garage. It came with plastic roo bar, winch, driving lights, second battery and tow bar already fitted for the NSW Police (they did remove the blues and twos and the police decals though). I have fitted a Safari snorkel, rear suspension airbags and an extra front tow point but nothing more. My wife is happy driving it and towing the trailer on outback trips. There is a lot of bad press about the early ZD30 engine until Nissan upped the oil sump capacity to 8.2L around 2004. A number have grenaded or blown up due to lack of oil. The 3L engine is OK but a bit more power from a bigger engine would not go amiss and I do really like the auto transmission even though it is only a 4 speed. Being auto lowers the GVM to 3020kg and towing to 2500kg compared to the 5 speed manual 3500kg and 3000kg correspondingly but I manage. Previously I owned a 1996 2.8L TD GQ Y60 manual Patrol which was stolen from the driveway in 2011. Only 175,000 km on the clock and never seen again I guess it went for parts seeing as the running gear is the same as on the Y61 GU Patrols. The 2.8 turbo diesel was a gutless engine compared to the ZD30 common rail. Even so it was comfortable to drive in the outback. Very happy with my patrols but I will not be buying the latest Y62 V8 petrol since I am not prepared to carry extra petrol in jerry cans for outback travel. I have always carried extra diesel in jerry cans on the camper trailer. I hope my comments are helpful to any prospective Patrol buyers.
I’ve paid $40,000 for 06 Gu 4.2 St cab chas with 63,000 kms on clock owned by old fella. I’ve got 286,162 kms on her now tow my big boat with it never gets hot still standard with 3inch exhaust. No mechanical issues change oils etc every 5000 kms, only thing it got recalled for passenger side airbag. It’s the best 4wds I’ve owned. 👍👍💪💪
@@ordenadoysimple2392 the ZD 3.0L are notorious for blowing up, pre 2007. After that, they converted to a Common rail injection system, and they go very well, as long as they’ve been looked after, and haven’t been pumped full of stupid boost. Heard that post 2007 the ZDs are decent engines.
My one is basically the same as this but a few years newer and the back seat has cup holders in the middle with the arm rests. Have owned mine for 4 years and still love it. Far from stock and owes me alot of money but been reliable as and staying with me for a long time yet.
I bought a new 4.2L Turbo Diesel Patrol in 2006, drove from Brisbane to Perth in 3 days ( 2 drivers ) it was a comfortable car to drive, towing a trailer. i still have it and has just passed 100,000 kilometres this year. The back seats were comfortable to sleep on, i left them in the seating position... i Love it...
I think your mistaken when you say people rip the petrols out for conversions. It’s the RD28 and ZD30 that are ripped out and have petrols v8s put in these days. Go back 5+ years ago people would do a td42 conversion, those days are gone.
I have y61 gu 2007 common rail 3lt and I just hit 350,000kms and still drives like new.. and yes oil catch can. And 3, pipe that's all you need to do for the nissan..
My zd30 2001 GU was bought at 300,000kms. Now she’s on 430,000 kms and still has plenty of life left in her. I’ve only done a 2” lift, running 31.5 AT, snorkel and catch can, mainly touring vehicle. Just did 950kms out of the full tank and sub tank over the weekend. She’s never missed a beat apart from the time the old battery died on me.

For something as simple as knowing where to put cups in the rear seats, says to me you haven't explored the mighty GU for what it has on offer. Cup holders in the rear seat arm rests...
I've had my 2003 ZD30 since new and apart from a new clutch never had a problem. Only 186k on the clock, everything works perfect, and car looks like new inside and out (because I've looked after it). Recommend regular services every 5000k, or 6months though. Don't skimp on them.
The straight six petrols were the best engines the GU ever had, aside from the massive fuel bill of course. But considering you can buy a TB45 or TB48 for so much less than a TD42 turbo, it buys a shitload of fuel.
Nothing will touch a gq or gu off road. Bulletproof diffs and axles and flex like crazy if coils al round. Toyota always made the better engines though.
I just want to make it clear. These are the best cars. Not kidding. I have one and it’s only blown up twice. The first time because it had 400,000kms as a zd30, 2nd time because I had 70psi of boost on the sand dunes. And now it’s a Barra, fairly stock ba motor. Makes 250hp which in a patrol isn’t a lot but it makes plenty of torque for a petrol. And for 4wding, they’re good
@@grumpy-g5s yeah. It did 450,000kms in those times. First motor lasted almost 400,000 and the second made just over 50,000. Blew up 3 months after 72psi
They’re still selling in GCC 2021/22. We have only one option of engine 4.8 petrol v6. Trim, three options standard, mid, and super Safari. 5 doors LWB and 3 doors SWB. They’re very popular among people and govs. We still see patrol of 1990s on streets.
Nissan has a new 3.8 V6 (yes, V6) that was introduced in the US Frontier for 2020 along with a nine speed automatic transmission. If they continue to make these patrols, that powertrain might end up in it.
Also, you guys definitely should do a head to head style video comparing the two, even if it lasts like 30 mins. You guys are interesting enough to keep my attention for that long!
i have a GU td42 2000 and its at 406k running like a beast still. I do love the older cruisers. I am not a fan of the new cruisers or patrols.....if nissan would just bring back a big diesel 6 instead of a petrol drinker i would look at a new one. until they wake up i wont touch either and i will still stick with my GU.
Bought a y61 gu 2001 diesel (used) here in the Philippines afew years ago, so far no major issues. Installed bullbar with big round lights and catch can. Love my daily driver😉😊
So far so good with mine! Only had it for two years. (2012 GU Y61 only 122,000kms). Love the space and it's a very comfortable ride. The less tech the better for an off-road vehicles (less issues to worry about in the middle of nowhere). Form follows function, and this vehicle has very practical features for four-wheel driving. In comparison I sat in a jeep for ten minutes, and as flashy as all the new tech was, it seemed so plastic, cosmetic and unnecessary for an off-road vehicle - maybe I just like the old school stuff better. The Patrol feels solid in comparison. There is only one thing that is puzzling me - if early zd30 common rail engines are so poor and prone to blowing up, how could any be still available and operational? There were issues with Nissan oil level recommendations in the past, which most likely contributed to this engine failure. Even later models should fill up around 8.5 to 8.7ltr, which is more than the 8.2ltr recommendation. Enjoyed the vid, as many valid points 👍
Tb45 is grossly underrated 380000 ks and still going strong Uses 20l/100 with the ks I do it’s an extra $5 / week or $250 / year over the diesel The extra power is worth it
Y61 or GU Patrol us still being made to this day (2024) in Northern Africa for middle Eastern markets. The TB48 patrol engine is legendary in theae markets.
Nothing wrong with the petrol engines they are strong and reliable the 4.5 is easy to maintain the older 4.2 are still good the 4.8 has got heaps of go they may use more fuel I have a 4.5 gu get 20 or under per hundred nearly 400000 kays on the clock I've owned it for about 11 years only changed the exhaust starter motor and alternator and radiator and does get used had four toyota s they were all petrol and they were reliable they use a bit more fuel but cheaper to maintain
I have a 2004 4.2TDi. It is the best 4x4 ever. Even as a female, I can drive it in the sand, rarely gets bogged (ie never). We have pulled out plenty of bogged Landcruisers! Easier to reverse parallel park than my Toyota Aurion. Goes better now we’ve spent some coin doing serious maintenance like fuel pump, injectors, new turbo (last one seized). Took us around Australia towing a 3500kg off road caravan. We will never sell it.
I had a pair of GU iii Patrols, an ST coil cab and a 4.2 TD wagon. Only issue I had was the wagon lost 5th gear ( a common issue with that gearbox) . I fitted a gear master overdrive kit, a great modification, especially for long distance travel. The ZD30 engines in the GU4 weren't bad when new, but expect the head to crack and need replacement around the 300,000 km mark. Another issue is the VP44 injector pump, when it fails, a reconditioned pump will be around $3500, plus fitting.
I didnt watch any of the video but are you serious asking that question in the title of your video? You might be new to the world of 4wds but GU’s are very sought after in the used market & reasonably affordable. I’m a Toyota man but the Patrol would be a smart purchase for a used 4wd. They’re excellent as a blank canvas & there’s a ton of aftermarket bolt ons available. If you want a capable 4wd it’s hard to look past. The 3.0L might be lacking a bit of excitement but it’s a heavy 4wd wagon. You don’t buy them to break land speed records. I thought that was obvious enough.
Every time I see one of these I sort of wish I had one and start daydreaming of the adventures that could be had. But as you said, not sure if I could own one as my only daily driver and can’t quite justify the purchase as a weekend warrior ATM. Nice to dream though. Great job again. 👍🏻
As a daily driver it's not so bad. I drive a 2005 y61 zd30 in the UK. Crowded roads, ok need a little extra parking room, but overall whether motorway, town or country road it is no drama. Load space is great and high driving position is an advantage. Unfortunately, the nearest we have to off roading is negotiating the millions of pot holes in England. However, given the chance to explore the outback, I wouldn't want to do this in any other car. Buy one, you won't regret it.
I am in Canada, and going to buy a 2008 super safari with 4.8 I6 which was imported from Dubai. I like the truck very much, the only concern is the fuel economy, the gas price is pretty high here like $1.8 Canadian dollars / litre. Some owners voted its fuel economy in city is about 25L/100km. Is it true?
I live in Romania, I started with a Suzuki Samurai from 1988 as my off-road car. I managed to travel with it a lot and do light to medium off-road. After 5 years I wanted a modern car with AC, big, safe and reliable for long roads and overlanding. The european Y61 GU4 was my choice. What can I say? The zd30 engine is something of luck ( the non CRDI one) and the chassis is a complete joke. I have seen over 50 patrol's and all of them had a lot of rust on their chassis. For a car that is this big I am disappointed concerning the interior space: VW Sharan has more space and it is a smaller vehicle overall. Concerning safety: I don't care about simulation: I rolled over 3 times at 90Km/h with a GU4 and survived with just a few scratches: no roll cage or something, almost stock Patrol. My conclusion is that the Patrol is over hyped: it has bad and slow engine ( at least in Europe) and plenty of rust on the chassis for its age plus a lot of minor engineering decisions that seems to have no logic (when you open the back doors from the passenger, you can see how mud stays between the door and the overfender: unacceptable).
I also live in Romania, i started with a suzuki vitara 2.0 16v from 1998 and now i got a nissan patrol y60 with bmw m57 engine. I do recomand you a swap with a om606 or m57 engine and you will fall in love again with your car
@@andreifcd8871 yeah....depeding where you live in Romania, that BMW swap engine can be barely legal or ilegal, depending on who you know at the inspection. I do not need headache. I am happy with my stock CRDI Patrol engine. It's no race car but it does the job.
@@KaosHitman I'm from Bulgaria and had a Y61 2.8 3dr shorty - loved it to death. Mine was imported from Italy and had zero rust issues. I sold it because I've married and have a kid, so I needed a vehicle with more doors and space. You can't get anything with better driveline than the GU patrol - axles are thickkk. I'm on a 2007 Ford F150 now, but thinking of selling it and getting a Y61 5dr. Too bad prices have gone through the roof lately. I really miss the old bucket.
i worked at nissan for 12 years the GU 3.0 taught me how to do warranties very quickly due to high frequency of no3 cylinder damage, cylinder head cracking, turbo failure and fuel pump failures , each one of these repairs was extremely common generally at 80,000 k to 120,000 k
Purchased a td4.2. It was a heap of gutless, overheating, very frustrating vehicle to venture off in, especially when towing. It was a real slug unless you drove it like a petrol at full rpm, not ideal. Truly disappointing. We replaced it with a 4.5 76 cruiser. The motor was awesome, great torque, but chassis design let it down terribly, a real worry when towing. Eventually we test drove a 2016 ZD30 (very hesitantly) due to reports and after owning a td4.2. Happy to report we had a GVM upgrade done prior to taking delivery and are more than pleased to report it is a far superior drive than either the 4.2td or the 4.5 76 series knew how to be. Yes it is underpowered, but a nice drive compared to previous, if only it had the 4.5 76 series torque, that would be the best of both worlds. Be warned though, it will get warm when towing, you need to monitor temp gauge on gradients but not to the extremes the 4.2td did, it would get really hot really quickly. Hope this helps. PS. Avoid a 76 series, totally over rated vehicle. If you must have one (please avoid) be sure to get diff locks as without them they are useless off-road. The chassis design has wheels constantly cocked (lifted) and with open diffs they just stop, never utilised diff locks so much, over rated vehicle, avoid.
mate bought a brand new 76. retired,, had the diff width fixed, lockers, rack, b/b, ect. ect. ect. all by toyota.. fkn useless..too short w/ base.. bogged even with 2 lockers.. cost him about 130k all up.. madness. best truck, for towing, touring, is a ford s/duty, 4.2tdi. single cab, twin cab. mine gets 14 lt 100.. 700nm. no computer crap, all mechanical. never touch it.. mate has an 80 series, i follow him round the sand hills, he,s fkn amazed.. no lockers, std, with 35,s, 2'' lift, single cab, 2.9m tray.. love it.. [ 700nm, dyno, td06 turbo, nothing else.]. the 4.5 toyota, are a disaster, .v8tdi twin turbo crap.. only hassle i have, is the stupid vacuum hubs, worki not worki, so just turn them in, like normal..yanks have had auto hubs since 70,s.. nothing new..best old 4x4, f100. built right.. i also have a 75 f250 highboy. look them up..very rare..
@@harrywalker968 gees, you just like me saying it as it is, 76 are a crap unit. Once you've owned one you'd do your utmost to talking anyone out of buying one, unfortunately so many diehards out there thinking they're the one to have. I believe it is because they make 4 wheeling feel like a challenge that people think they're good. Then you drive another vehicle over the same terrain with minimal fuss, so friggin in control in comparison, yes the 76 makes it feel like you're achieved something that never existed in the first place. I was contemplating track correction with coil conversion but talked myself out of it. There's only so much money you can through at one, only to still have a useless piece of shit, so glad I opted out. Why oh Why are they so in demand? Now, since my previous comment here I have had the ZD30 Patrol ECU tuned, 779 NM at rear wheels now, it's now great to drive. It's not underpowered, it's as you'd expect one to drive from new. I'll go as far to say I now have more ompth than the chipped 76 V8 did. Lugs van marvellously but it still needs to be driven by temp gauge & EGT's, so once you've got your head around that, it's a great drive, something not many ZD30 owners would say. I'm not into utes (trucks) myself, so I'll stick to my Patrol, always been a wagon user.
the answer to your question is YES!!! But not in Australia. But in UAE because is patrol y61 is still being produced for the Middle East since that legendary off-roader is extremely famous in the UAE
I love my 2008 Y61 that I bought 8 months ago, went to QLD to buy a caravan and on the way home couldn't stop it overheating up hills, it has huge new radiator, tranny oil cooler fan, new water pump fitted and new fluid in the viscous fan but it still overheats! Everyone has different reasons and fixes, I'm at my wits end!

8:40 - 9:11 Thank you for mentioning that. Smoking cigarettes is filthy and disgusting. I really want to buy a Y61/GU Patrol, but can't yet because I live in the United States.
Looking to buy? Zd30 Injector pumps start to fail around 200,000 and are a prick to find / replace and will cost $$$$, If it’s hasn’t been done by previous owner expect to do it yourself. Check NADS or at least a catch can has been done. Pre common rail (DI) version were fairly much sorted by 2004, early common rails had their own sets of issues too. Check your glow plugs have been done (should be done at 100,000km I believe), original ceramic head ones can fail and when they do parts can journey into the piston and cause complete failure.
You guys should do a video on the GQ(Y60) patrol and the Y62 patrol. To me, I love the GQ's, I know they are a tiny bit less capable compared to the GU, and they are no the most comfy, but regardless, the GQ's are my favs. I love the old rugged charm they have, I have one (its one of the Ford Mavericks) that needs a little rust repair, and I use it as a daily. Over time, I plan on building it up to be a decent all-rounder car. I have the lift and the tires (I want to go bigger with the tires in the future) so far, I just need to focus on first getting the rust fixed, the rust is on the roof gutters, on the passenger front door around the key (will probably need a new door) and on the left barn door. After that, I can focus on the interior, bling it up a bit, make it nicer, and start on getting things like draws, roof rack, rooftop tent, and other things for camping. Not to mention other things like a bigger fuel tank and GU diffs, because they are built stronger than the GQs. Correct me if I am wrong, but to my knowledge, the only real difference between the two under the shell are the diffs and maybe a stronger gearbox. To my knowledge, the chassis are the same. Maybe the GUs were built with a stronger material. Let me know, I would like to know. I currently have the basic 2" lift with 33 equivalent tires and winchbar with just a cheap RidgeRider winch from Supercheap to get me started. Since I can't do much 4x4ing at this stage, I have gotten it mod-plated to be a 7 seater. Before you all start yelling at me for doing that (I am single with no family), I know, almost everyone I told, said I shouldn't do it, because it would be a waste of money and I would never need the third row seats. Welp, the thing is, I don't care. When I was a kid, we had a Ford Maverick (GQ Patrol), and it had all the trims at the time, even the rear A/C unit for the 3rd row reat. In my mind, while I am not going on any 4x4 trips for days at a time, I would like the option to seat more passengers and drive people around. But when I do start going on long trips, I will simply take the seats out and put the draws in, easy. And vice versa when I don't go on trips for a while. Originally, it was a 6 seater, 3 in the front, and 3 in the back. I wanted to do away with the front bench and put a consol in. That was another reason I made it a 7 seater, I get an additional seat, and I get the front console. And yes, I have utilised the 3rd row seats a couple of times when I have been designated driver for my brother and his friends. And its for those small and few moments why I got the 7 seats. Sorry about the ramble. The point is I love the GQs, even though they look and feel outdated and old. But it's that reason why I love them. I know people like to have a more comfortable experience while driving and 4x4ing, and I get that, but for me, I like their more rough around the edges feel, thats just my taste in 4x4 cars. Would love to see you guys make a video on the GQ Patrol/Ford Maverick. P.S. Sorry for the length, I have never been able to condense information down into a shorter form.
Patrol not available in the U.S..I own a 2012 Pathfinder with the 4.0 liter v6.I bought new. It now has 168,350 miles, and has been absolutely bulletproof. I have not even needed to replace a light bulb. Even towed a skiboat for several years! It is the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned, and still looks and drives like new. Not sure how much the Patrol and Pathfinder have in common, but the fit / finish and overall quality on mine are excellent.
The Armada (second generation) is the closest to the patrol as you'll get, but it doesn't have all the off road tech from the patrol. Nissan decided to place that as a direct competition to the Toyota Sequoia and the Ford expedition.
Used them with the Irish ☘️ army with the Un 🇺🇳 in Africa they are savage bit of kit …! & I am a Land Rover guy ! Comfy plenty of power … perfect towing bus ..
They are are a Great and Solid Heavy Duty And Extremely Capable Unit The 3.0 Litre Turbo Diesel is a good Engine and Very Economic And will do Everything with Ease and Power up to 80kph Great Off Road and anything Else it is Perfect... The Biggest Probably is that on the Highway at 100 to 110kph You are Constantly Flat to the Floor and Even the Slightest Ride in a Hill it Will Reduce Rapidly in Speed So you have to go back a Gear And Some Times Back Another Gear And you are loosing your Momentum especially Towing a Caravan or Horse Float or Heavy Trailer it is Just Completely Gutless And most Owners will Agree ..If you are Planning a Big Trip Especially Around Australia it is absolutely Painful to be in the Driver Seat Towing Something And Constantly Holding Up Trucks and all Motorists until you are going Down a Hill again or Slowly picking up your Speed and it is just Frustrating And Dangerous as People are prepared to take a Risk just to get past You..Out on the Big Open Roads be Prepared to be Constantly Overtaken by Road Trains and Hi Speed Semi Trailers who can Sit on 100 to 105 kph all Day and I found this Highly Stressful Compared to the Previous Powered 4.2 litre 6 Cylinder.. This Engine was Nissans Biggest Mistake unless of Course you are Using it at Speeds of up to 80kph That is where it Shines But for long Distance Travel with a Load you will Hate it and that is Why there are Plenty for Sale and if the Owners are Honest they are Selling because it will not Tow a Load at Highway Speeds .You can fit larger Turbochargers And Extractors and 3 Inch Exhaust and Free Flowing Air Filter plus have the ECU or Computer Flashed and Dyno Tuned And Makes Some Gains But a Diesel Toyota will Easily Overtake You. Unfortunately this is the Only Real Let Down Apart from this it is a Formidable Vehicle..I am a Qualified Mechanic and this is my Experience with Every Owner. If you can Buy a Good Nissan Patrol 2012 to 2016 and do these Modifications you will be the Owner of a Reasonably Powered Vehicle.Personally They Should Have Just Improved the 4.2 6 Cylinder And it would be Capable of Everything..If you are Not Concerned about the time it takes you to get from A to B on the Open Road then Purchase it Otherwise Spend more Money and Toyota is the best all Round And Faster For Resale And Also Hold or in many Cases Increase in Price..Genuine Honest Opinion..Phillip
Petrol engines shit? I beg to differ, the TB48 was a very strong unit and they are lasting upward of 600,000km these days. They chug a lot of fuel but you somewhat make up for it in reasonable servicing costs and as a bonus, came with an extra gear for the automatics. Very popular in the Arab nations due to low cost of petrol and the extra power for sand driving. They turbocharge as well as a Barra too.
@Caesar with snorkel it can... petrol engines can take in little bit of water and spit and splutter for couple minutes and be alright where diesel engines don't react well to water and get hydro locked
The GU Y61 is coming back, for all those Patrol fans out there. Saw a video on YT, Nissan has just released the 2024 GU Patrol in Japan. It looks absolutely identical to the last GU that came off the production line in 2017. Nissan has decided to revisit the same classic look of the exterior/interior, but under the bonnet, gone is the 3.0ltr diesel. They are only available with the 4.8ltr diesel. No word if or when they may be released outside of Japan, but put me down for one!
I have a GU 99, it's has done, 1 million and 80 thousands kms. And is still going strong!! It's a ute... having over heating, I have replaced radiator, water pump.. any ideas?
my td42 gu Just maintenance things like full servicing every 5000km, brakes, wheel bearings hubs and seals, rear main seal, thermostats, 33” a/t tires, starter motors batteries and alternators. Major problems I’ve had 5th gear shaft broke around 320,000km leaving me $1500 out of pocket for a new gearbox-new gearbox was gq/gu hybrid model for a gu (beefier gears and shafts from gq in gu housing) Injector pump went around 280,000km and with new injectors it set me back arms and legs at a diesel specialist. Next issue is replacing the suspension (preventative maintenance) I’ve been around Australia in my ute a few times and it’s been off road on the tracks, beaches you name it 2001 td42 dx gu ute almost 500,000km on the clock
Great review... as a GU owner myself, my unbiased opinion is that deep down we all wish we had a Toyota! Haha... it’s pretty cute that you think the UN would be saving children.
Sucks you didn't get the TB48DE petrol motor on your Y91s. That's a 4.8 liter inline 6 with 24 valves that's probably one of the most tunable engines in the 4x4 world. Go check the Liwa hill climb sand drags by searching in UA-cam.
I have a 2006 TB48 Nissan Patrol there rare compared to diesel engine variants in Australia... Nissan stopped TB48 petrol engine option for Australia in 2010 because of new fuel emission laws introduced at the time
missed so many things about this car, yes armrests and cupholders are in the back, take a closer look, the safest part about it is that when you crash, you just go straight through em cause the things a tank, petrol engines are pretty sought after as well. a tb48 is a legendary engine, td's aren't that amazing and quite outdated.
We still have the Nissan patrol for the 2021 models the 4 door and even the 2 door still available here from the dealerships in Saudi Arabia check this beautiful 2021 with the new look with the legendary 4.8 gas 6i monster engine look it up in youtube

I'm sorry but at least check some info before make the video. TB48 petrol engine i would say one of the last 1 million kilometers engine that still producing. Arabs use him for tuning and it's absolute beast because only this engine can handle this power. Probably the only one serios minuse about this engine is his fuel consumption. I do reviews on my channel about car's reliability but i would never did this mistake to call TB48 bad because statistic says opposite. Just check the comments of the owners in this video.
Stock N/A TB48 with 5 speed tiptronic auto is way more powerful and capable on and off-road than turbo TD42 running 20pounds of boost... also TB48 doesn't have overheating issues, way cheaper to service and maintain which in the long run makes up for the amount of money you spend on petrol...also you can make it dual fuel lpg which is 97cents a litre. And TI models have arm rest with cup holders in back seat
@@ReDriven What part of Australia are you guys from... i live in Central Queensland and 99% of GQ and GU patrol engine swaps these days that i see are either 4L Barra, LS, Cummins or duramax and first two which are petrol are most popular being easy to find and cheaper to buy than a Cummins, duramax or TD42ti engine
The problems with the Patrol over here (in the UK anyway) is that almost all of them are dead with broken 3.0d engines that will need a bloody fortune on them to repair the unit. Hence, Toyota wins!
The question I would ask is should you buy a used 4WD There seemed to be many who buy these and think firstly you mod them because the manufacturers who supply warranty simply don't know as much as some after market person who can give it more power and torque. Also some simply thrash them in the belief it's a 4WD and is built and made to be thrashed I wouldn't even buy one that had been on the beach, seawater and ferrous metal are mortal enemies. Yes I do have a 4wd
Hope you are still doing good and safe

It’s the RD28 and ZD30 that are ripped out and have petrols v8s put in these days. Go back 5+ years ago people would do a td42 conversion, those days are gone.
Yeah I thought his comments on the petrols were whack. TD42 turbo is the only diesel in patrol's range thats more desirable.

How much did you pay for it? I'm looking to buy one aswell
Well that was an honest down to earth review if ever I saw one. Thanks mate.

Could be wrong but the back seats do have pull down cup holder arm rest in the center.
Good video thanks for the info
Every time I see one of these I sort of wish I had one and start daydreaming of the adventures that could be had. But as you said, not sure if I could own one as my only daily driver and can’t quite justify the purchase as a weekend warrior ATM. Nice to dream though. Great job again. 👍🏻
Cheers Darren, wrapped you liked it!
The main problem with these is the roof gutter ,where the roof racks connect . The mastic cracks and let’s water in .
I sold my y61 and bought y 62 . The y 61 was a bucket of bolts with that 3litre engine
So the zd30 id a good motor?

My work uses this car to get on the beach to supply the restaurant. This is a awesome car!!

Awsome review mate. I would choose a patrol over anything. Reliable and comfortable. Iam saving some bucks for a TB 48

These things are the toughest 4x4 ever offered to the Australian public.
Dominating hardcore offroad competition for 30 years says alot.

Interesting.
Thanks!👍
Well said that’s why I’m sticking to my tb45 tows my boat at highway speeds and is super reliable

nissan patrol safari Y61 2022 model still available for sale in UAE and middle east countries
All around the world, Nissan sells the highest units of Patrol and Patrol Safari in UAE.
Really?? Didn't know that, cool fact. Cheers for watching too mate.
I almost bought this patrol when it was for sale recognised it from the rear fridge setup good rig 👍🏼
Awesome Jared!
You really deserve mor exposure man, great review
Thanks so much Jose, hopefully in time the channel builds.

It's a ute... having over heating, I have replaced radiator, water pump.. any ideas?
my td42 gu
Just maintenance things like full servicing every 5000km, brakes, wheel bearings hubs and seals, rear main seal, thermostats, 33” a/t tires, starter motors batteries and alternators.
Major problems I’ve had
5th gear shaft broke around 320,000km leaving me $1500 out of pocket for a new gearbox-new gearbox was gq/gu hybrid model for a gu (beefier gears and shafts from gq in gu housing)
Injector pump went around 280,000km and with new injectors it set me back arms and legs at a diesel specialist.
Next issue is replacing the suspension (preventative maintenance)
I’ve been around Australia in my ute a few times and it’s been off road on the tracks, beaches you name it
2001 td42 dx gu ute almost 500,000km on the clock
My pop used to own a 1983 Datsun-Nissan Patrol, and he owned it from new until 2016 when he sold it with 236k kms on it
yo ive driven a 95 4.2 efi and it was an absolute weapon. decent on petty awell!
Great review... as a GU owner myself, my unbiased opinion is that deep down we all wish we had a Toyota!
Haha... it’s pretty cute that you think the UN would be saving children.
I haven't had to upgrade from my '69 G60 yet!
Nissan stopped TB48 petrol engine option for Australia in 2010 because of new fuel emission laws introduced at the time
I have a 2000 model zd30 with 361000 klm on the clock. Still waiting for it to blow up.
The second best 4x4 after the 100 series land cruiser without question I also love the Y60 and the Land Cruiser 80
We in Saudi Arabia have a Nissan Patrol Super Safari 4800 VTC engine it is a beast and as reliable as Toyota Land Cruiser.
Back seat, there is two armrests. At the front of the armrests are stubie / can holders.
It's a bit sad you guys don't wanna talk about the petrol engines. I'm really thinking of buying one. Would have loved to hear why and why not.....
Good review and nice turtle!
Cheers mate! - AK
I think it looks awesome and is on par with the Toyota Landcruiser.
The most reliable suv of 2000s
missed so many things about this car, yes armrests and cupholders are in the back, take a closer look, the safest part about it is that when you crash, you just go straight through em cause the things a tank, petrol engines are pretty sought after as well. a tb48 is a legendary engine, td's aren't that amazing and quite outdated.
Cheers Dylan!
Now they do a 4J conversion , its win win .
We still have the Nissan patrol for the 2021 models the 4 door and even the 2 door still available here from the dealerships in Saudi Arabia check this beautiful 2021 with the new look with the legendary 4.8 gas 6i monster engine look it up in youtube

@@waistedsausage1071 Nissan still make series 4 "2021 y61 GU Nissan Patrol super safari" for the middle east with TB48DE engine only...he's not talking about series 5 y62 Nissan Patrol
Just check the comments of the owners in this video.
just bought same model as this one td42ti from the original owner with 190,000k’s and no mods
It's just a shame so many people bin the petrol for the diesel conversion.
Doubt they bin them 🤣 gqs yes, tb48 nope
@@ReDriven What part of Australia are you guys from... i live in Central Queensland and 99% of GQ and GU patrol engine swaps these days that i see are either 4L Barra, LS, Cummins or duramax and first two which are petrol are most popular being easy to find and cheaper to buy than a Cummins, duramax or TD42ti engine
so does the ST you can see the cut out in the seat cover in the video here
TB48 is good but I'd still rather my big turbo Td42 running 789nm of torque at the wheels on 35s 🙂
(and no it doesn't overheat)
Love it mate, childhood dream car
Smooth power, probably has a bigger intercooler, ARE bonnet scoop , plus....
Bought a 2012 Patrol wagon 3.0L 103,000kms
That's 100% best value for money currently on the market.
Tb48 Middle East will vouch for it
Love your channel!
Thanks!
Any chance you lads can do an old pathfinder? Like the R50 generation with the VG33. Quirky little things.
The problems with the Patrol over here (in the UK anyway) is that almost all of them are dead with broken 3.0d engines that will need a bloody fortune on them to repair the unit.
Hence, Toyota wins!
The question I would ask is should you buy a used 4WD
There seemed to be many who buy these and think firstly you mod them because the manufacturers who supply warranty simply don't know as much as some after market person who can give it more power and torque.
Also some simply thrash them in the belief it's a 4WD and is built and made to be thrashed
I wouldn't even buy one that had been on the beach, seawater and ferrous metal are mortal enemies.
Yes I do have a 4wd
Short answer YES! But not a 3.0L grenade
