    The frost effect on cork reminds me crystallized salt you can find on highly saline coasts, like Dead Sea

    • @52Miniatures
      @52Miniatures  4 роки тому +2

      It does, doesn't it! I don't know why some of the ones on the diorama turned from yellowish to almost red. Maybe the cork absorbed moist.. and that exaggerated the yellowing... no idea... But I like how it looks. I also like not totally being in control. I could never have planed that random effect.

      @@52Miniatures haha yes, pointed out that might be the case: crystals retrieving anything the cork was holding inside. It can also be the brown paint in the rocks having something that chemically sparks that.
      Might be prevented (if it's not a desired effect) by sealing the surface with varnish before applying crystal goo

    Excellent diorama! Encourages me to start on mine again. I absolutely love GSW products! Takes a good month to receive an order here in the US unfortunately. I've always been tempted by that frost product. I'm thinking it'll look great Seafoam Tree mix....for some kind of crazy reason. Now I must order more GSW....stuff.

    Looks like crystals are feeding on cork's humidity. Sucking out that natural moisture trapped in the cork may "drag out" the pigments within (natural earth, artificial pigments used to tint the cork (is it bark? Can't get the world properly ☺️).
    Something in that vein might explain the colour bleeding on the crystals.
    Great job btw, dwarf if super classic!
    In the end that's what green stuff world is about: someone said it's like they are products he could buy straight outta hardware store. That can be done, it's true, if you know what you are looking for.
    GSW do the guesswork for hobbyists and it's worth the price. One could know hairspray makes neat spider webs (old timers' trick) but how many people does? The research takes time and time is money.
    GSW are economic enough products and in the end, their whole range is designed to have the best results with minimal effort and maximizing the fun factor.
    They should be credited for that 😉
    Super glad you are showing what the brand offers to people who might not know it yet.
    Stay safe and have a great weekend with the fam Alex 👍

    • @52Miniatures
      @52Miniatures  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Javier, hope you and family are doing well and staying safe Javier as well.
      Absolutely, I think the cork bark (bark is right) also sucked in moisture from the texture paste, the build was hurried... and in the best of worlds should have been left longer to dry before painting. This bit of cork bark I bought in a pet store, its supposed to go into an aquarium. So I also guessing they treat it with something that kills bacteria but hopefully doesn't kill fish... So if its an additive or just natural "wood" colors that leaks into the frost.. I don't know. I would like to know though because its a cool effect.
      I agree Javier, GSW also seems to be looking at the market and filling gaps in a fast and flexible way, using their imaginations a lot. I like that.
      Thanks, I really like that dwarf. I can so see why people love the "old hammer" stuff. There is a character in there, in a completely different way from todays minis.

      @zamo9660 4 роки тому

      @@52Miniatures hairspray thru airbrush dries half way before landing on the piece.
      Airbrush hair spray into branches and you'll get Hollywood like haunted house spider webbing (dense and silky).
      This may not work now, haven't tested nowadays old ladys' hairspray. Grandma's did but chemical composition may have changed thru years to better standards, who knows, just warned u.
      Highlights with fluorescent colors (transparent) or pearl metallic to enhance extreme highlights, salt and hairspray chipping method...
      You know, most of those even I've either forget or moved to already bottled products.
      Blood was made with uhu glue or tamiya clear red (anything that developed strings while drying).
      These kind of stuff. As I said, knowing that today is just a certificate of how long you have been around wich is at best, unimportant and unimpressive.
      There's internet now and companies who do the thinking for you so for few bucks all you have to do is pour and play. Bottled fun I'd say.
      Have a nice w33knd' Alex ;P

      @52Miniatures  4 роки тому +1

      Ah! Cool! Probably the EU has forbidden any spiderwebby chemicals in hairspray by now 😂 Yeah, all the tricks are now bottled and out in the open. I like it. Got to try that floor polish thing you've mentioned though.

    Hello. I heard you say at one point that you were using kitty litter. May i speak as someone who has used this technic for nearly 40yrs. DON'T! It gives a good effect and is, or seems perfect for this. BUT. It is made to absorb humidity, and it will sooner or later even if sealed in superglue. I had one piece that lasted around 25 yrs then all of a sudden the rocks (kitty litter) turned to white dust. Most fell apart sooner. Just a lesson that can only be learnt with time. So I pass it on to all who may find this usefull. All the best.

    • @52Miniatures
      @52Miniatures  3 роки тому +1

      The Frost was a really fun effect to play with! I think it fills a nice gap in the "icy range". There's lots of snow effects, but combined with this really completes the wintery feel. I must say I like the company. As you say, some of the products could be mixed at home or bought in other places - but having it all at arms reach in my game store... Also I like that they seem to have fun, just pushing out new random products. Go pick leaves! they will soon be gone.

    • @52Miniatures
      @52Miniatures  4 роки тому

      Thank you Inês! The plastic I used was something I found in the recycling. I think it was packaging from something I bought from Ikea... clear plastic is nice because you can see what you are doing, but you could use pretty much anything flat and smooth. The plastic I used was a little bit to thin... so it changed shape - first because of the heat from the hot glue, but also from the heat generated when curing the uv resin. Anyway, you can try anything smooth and flat. I you are worried about the resin sticking to the material, you can test first by just pouring a bit of resin on the type of material you want to use, cure the resin - and then see if you can peel the resin off the material.
