  • Ciliary spasm! When your eye gets locked up in close up. Living within our four walls just now, so many of us stuck at home, working from computers and having a social life through screens, surely I am not the only one whose eyes are giving them trouble. My ciliary muscle is in spasm, and this is holding me back from progressing on my EndMyopia journey. I don't want to be in vision-limbo for 6 months - I want to keep improving my vision and fixing my eyesight despite any chaos the world may throw at me.
    So, I am setting myself a Ciliary Spasm Release Challenge!! And I invite YOU to join me!
    This week, I will be making sure I treat my eyes like the precious treasures they are, and not abusing them with excessive close-up, even though I am now working from home, on a computer. As a result of current circumstances, my work now involved me editing videos for my work place so we can stay in touch with our peeps. This week I am editing 5 videos, and each one can easily take 16 hours. That's a lot of screen time!!
    So, if I can do it, anyone can!
    So, take those measurements (links to the EndMyopia vision calculator and Snellen charts below), get those good habits happening, and tune back in next week to see how it went for me and to let me know how it went for you!
    And remember to like and subscribe if you enjoyed the video. Thanks! 🥰

    🤓 A little about my eyesight: 🤓
    I have had glasses for astigmatism since I was 7 years old, but I only needed them for specific circumstances, like reading blackboards or night driving (not when I was 7, obviously).
    At the age of 22 I landed an office job, and with my lovely new money I bought a smart phone. 6 months later, I had myopia and had to wear glasses full-time.
    My prescription has been going up since then, and I have been freaking out as I sit back and watch my eyesight deteriorate, feeling helpless and scared.
    I was up to -3 in my left eye, and -2.5 in my right eye when I discovered Jake Steiner and the EndMyopia method.
    I am still only a few months in, but already I am seeing at almost -2.25 in my left eye -2.00 in my right eye. Small changes, but any improvement is amazing when my eyes have only been deteriorating for the last 10 years.
    I am loving knowing more about eyesight and how eyes function. It's fascinating, and learning so much feels empowering. I love that I no longer feel helpless about my vision. I have also quit my smartphone so I could get over my screen addiction. I even bought a Nokia to get me out of temptation's way! Since doing this, I have been making progress with my vision, but also have regained so much of my life and time and perspective, so this vision journey is definitely having positive knock-on effects in my life as a whole.

    Hi Gemily,
    You will see this on your Snellen, as I do.
    You will see momentary "flashes", of 20/50 (bright light) and then back to 20/80.
    Perfectly normal.
    As the period of wearing a minus decreases, the period of clear flashes will increase.
    That is how I got back to 20/20.

    That's a good idea! As for me these days my phone use is minumal. So much so that I charged it four days ago and it stil has 33%. I found the solution in checking all my social media and chats with my laptop. And now it's way easier for me since I sadly have to stay at home all the time. So maybe we should add something like '30 minutes a day phone use challenge'. Have a nice day!

    We need sunlight period..... The sunlight stimulates the production of various biochemicals in the eye cells in particular melatonin in the mitochondria. The spasms are not just confined to the cilial muscles but demonstrably to all the eye muscles which locks the eyes in place over time. This leads to reduced blood flow to the eyes, reduced oxygen, and reduced nutrients. The entire eye ball structure becomes rigid. Like your back when you pick up leaves for 15 minutes. The laws of muscles and Newtonian optics. The Truth is a balance between Bates and Steiner. Continuing we could give an explanation of astigmatism and how to reverse it. All this requires braking of bad habits, returning to nature, and good nutrition and looking at distant objects. J Froelich Ph.D mathematics, NSF postdoc, IT consultant etc...........

    I'm new to this... My spasm starts after literally 5 minutes after I start any close work. I need to ditch my phone, so Ive been using it for phone only this week. Any videos on measuring distance? I follow Nathan Oxenfeld and Mark Warren.

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 роки тому +2

      Yeah, phones are really good at keeping our eyes in spasm and in strain - filling all those spare moments where our eyes would be getting a break looking around with another tiny screen looking even closer. Restricting you phone use is a really good idea. This is the only video I have made on measuring so far: ua-cam.com/video/HBsjw5nBrr8/v-deo.html

      I pop my normalised back in for my breaks. Your eyes need stimulus - so an achievable challenge.
      When my ciliary is locked up, even with my normalised there is a bit too much blur. When my ciliary releases things look nice and clear again. It's quite relaxing actually.

      It is relaxed when you use a plus lens when reading.

    • @ericsilva7430
      @ericsilva7430 6 місяців тому

      Using Plus, your eyes don't have to go into ''close-up mode'' contracting the eyes muscles to be able to read. That protects from pseudomyopia, or ''eye spam myopia''. Plus lens actually stimulates your eyes to get less myopia (the axial leg gets short) too, so it is a win-win situation.

    Hey really love your videos, been following the endmyopia method for a while. I’ve got normalised of 0.50 less than my prescription, I just wondered when you’re looking at your eye chart is the 20/20 line blurry and you can’t make out the letters or does it look lower quality that you can still read?
    I’m wondering because I can read the whole chart with my normalised even though I haven’t made any progress wondering if it’s the wrong script.

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 роки тому +1

      I just reduced my normalised a couple of days ago and can no longer read the 20/20 line. Before that though, I could read the 20/20, and even get a couple of letters in the 20/15. It wasn't crystal clear though (unless I stared at it for a while and did some pulling focus). I'm still working out whether it was the right time to reduce, but I think it was. And only 0.25 diopters less, and now I can't read the 20/20 anymore! Are these your first pair of normalised?

    • @ShinySian18
      @ShinySian18 4 роки тому +1

      Gemily Mez thanks for your reply! Yeah it’s my first pair of normalised. When I compare it to my full correction it just looks like a lower quality but not really blurry and I can read the whole eye chart so I’m not really sure if it’s okay or not

      @GemilyMez  4 роки тому +1

      I think your concern is valid. I tried wearing differentials all the time starting when all this lockdown began. I figured "I'm staying home all the time now. I am hardly ever doing anything more than an arm-length away anyway." But then the headaches came. Took me a while to work out why I was getting massive headaches every day. It was the glasses.
      And NottNott mentions in his most recent video (ua-cam.com/video/fN2KbzQpVBQ/v-deo.html) that he too recommends just wearing normalised at home, and yep, he was blur adapted so I reckon he knows what he is talking about there.

    What if I just started this method? How long does it take to release ciliary spasm?

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 роки тому

      Because I had habitual ciliary spasm, which I had been in for almost 10 years because of my lifestyle (wearing full-prescription even for close up, and being on my phone screen a lot), it took me a full week to release my ciliary spasm, and I only managed in the end by having a full week without my phone. Now, I can release ciliary spasm much quicker, because I don't fall into such bad habits for such a lengthy period of time.

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 роки тому

      If you just started this method, you can still do this! Actually, it's a great time to do this, as releasing your ciliary spasm comes before axial shortening. So make sure you don't wear full prescription when doing close up, take breaks to look into the distance for a minutes or two every 20 minutes when you are working on a screen, be really low on phone screen use, and just look into the distance as much as you can! Do you have differentials yet? Do you know your measurements?

      Distance vision. Not using your smartphone or any hand-held screen at all. Sitting far enough away from your computer. Being on the edge of blur on your computers. Taking breaks from screens every 20 minutes to look into the distance. Pretty much, minimise close up as much as possible, and where you can't minimise, at least be gentle on your ciliary.

    How do we know when the ciliary is releasing ??

      @GemilyMez  3 роки тому

      You will find you are able to focus a little better on distant objects. You may not notice immediately though, that's why taking cm measurements can help at first. Once you are in the habit of noticing eye strain, you will be able to release your ciliary more quickly, and then you will be able to feel/see the difference. But at first, cms to blur would be the best indicator in my opinion.

      @@GemilyMez so the ciliary release is basically a clear flash ?

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  3 роки тому

      @@willywonka6775 No, clear flashes are different. Getting the tear film over your eye is more similar to a clear flash. The ciliary release only adds a little bit. It would be the difference in vision of someone who has -2.5 diopters being able to see -2.25. So, not clear, just slightly better.
      If you can successfully active focus - so clear up some blur, then that is a good sign too - it is very hard to do AF when you have ciliary spasm.

      @@GemilyMez so what does ciliary release feel ?

      @GemilyMez  3 роки тому

      Hard to describe. I think it can come with a gentle stinging sensation when you are first releasing the spasm. After your ciliary is comfortable moving again though, the ciliary release feels like a little relief, it feels relaxing, even though you need to be intentional about doing it.
