Hi, great video 😉 But I got confused now, is it possible to do active focus with glasses?? I really struggle with ac and I've never tried with glasses on 🤔
You can do active focus whenever there is a blur challenge. So I have normalised glasses which are slightly lower than my full correction, so they give me just a little bit of blur. With active focus I can clear up that bit of blur. For EndMyopia, it is encouraged to just build active focussing into our lives, so that means being able to active focus when we are doing close up work, as well as just when going about our day. That is why differential and normalised glasses are important for the process - they introduce that small amount of blur that allows us to active focus any time.

I use Libby, which is an app that links in to my local library so I can borrow audiobooks for free. If you don't have that, but can't afford to buy audiobooks on Google Play / iBooks / Audible, then maybe Scribd is cheaper? Or even Libravox, which is a library of free audiobooks, but they are recorded by volunteers, so not always very professional, and they are classics only, which are out of copyright. If none of these take your fancy, then podcasts are often available for free, and there are podcasts for just about everything now!
Hey. Isn't it difficult to get active focus when you are outside for walks? I am not able to do it. I find I can do active focus when I am sitting at a place and focusing on something.
It can be more difficult, yes. Sometimes it is impossible because in full sun I get 20/20 vision in my glasses. But I don't think that is what you meant. Yes, active focusing while moving can be more challenging, but even the act of trying is helpful. I find when I try to do AF on things further away it can be easier, because they are more still in my vision, in comparison to objects that are closer to me and so are more jolting in my vision. I have also found my ability to do AF while walking is something that has improved over time. Even if you don't feel you are managing with AF while going for walks, just the act of trying, and getting away from screens, and stretching your vision (even if you can't clear up all the blur), and getting some natural light will be so very helpful for your eyes.
Active focus is about clearing up a little bit of blur on your blur horizon. You can do active focus any time throughout the day. Whether you wear glasses or not depends where you are looking. So if you are on your computer, you do active focus wearing differentials. If you are doing non-close up thibg you wear normalised. It's all about clearing up a little blur on the blur horizon, wherever that may be at the time, with whatever correction you are wearing.
@@GemilyMez I have high myopia and when I'm on my phone I take off my glasses to work my eyes a bit more. Also I cook without glasses but don't know if that will help
a little confused but what line are you supposed to look at on the snellen chart? 20/40? is this where you would practice active blur? also, how would you know when it is time to reduce your RX again? additionally, I'm going to start my job as a nurse in the hospital soon. With covid going on, it wouldn't be sanitary to switch back and forth from differntials and normalized. I will be on the computer on and off. So do you think I should just stick with the differentials the entire shift, even for activities that dont involve reading anything super close?
You can practise active focus on your Snellen at any line that isn't clear. You are aiming to improve until you can read the 20/20 line. Once you can read the 20/20 line (without too much effort), that would be a good time to reduce your correction again. Differentials make your blur bubble smaller. So it won't make things at a distance slightly less blurry. When wearing differentials, things at a distance will be almost as blurry as no correction. So, whether you can wear your diffs all day will depend on how important seeing midrange and distance clearly is. Overcorrection for close up is very unhelpful for this process, so it may work as long as your clear vision isn't going to be critical. A very tricky situation I had never considered!
Try googling "EndMyopia night vision". This are some good links that come up: endmyopia.org/how-to-improve-night-vision-advanced-topic/ And wiki.endmyopia.org/wiki/Night_vision
I had alot of mixed ideas about active focus I want a clear answer about what it is and how to do it , i know english but am not American or somethin , so I really find it hard to understand something with all of these fancy words , i had to google search every single word , And i got this , AF is just gazing into a letter or something that is blurry and then it just becomes a bit clear , right? But how can I achieve it so i can do it on command , i would really like a simple explanation , i know it’s hard to explain because it’s you’re gonna have to experience it for your self
Hi I have a question. I’m currently in High school and I really need to read books in order to do well in exams. Although I’m trying to avoid close up works but what should I do? Should I follow the 20/20/20 rule ?
Yeah, we all need do some close up work - some of us more than others - and we can still take care of our vision while doing it. Following the 20/20/20 (or even better, the 20/20/60 rule, where you looking into the distance for 60 seconds) will help a lot! Beyond that, make sure you are not wearing full correction for close up work, and get out for a walk, even just 30 minutes after school or something, as often as you can. Now is a great time for you to be more aware of treating your eyes well, since you are working them hard at the moment. All the best with exams!
@@alexbean5876 Well, I heard that too, and maybe that would be true for some things, but not for lens-induced myopia when we keep using glasses for close up work. They just keep getting worse, unless we decide to undo the damage, in which case they get better! My eyes kept getting worse into my 30s, and now, in my 30s, they are definitely getting better again now I am doing EM. So, for you and for me, no, our eyes aren't "stabilized" in the sense that they are set now and can't be changed. The eye is incredibly adaptive, even into and beyond our 20s and 30s.
Hey can you tell me, make a video or shoe how to understand your eye prescription and what too do with cylinder, antsigmatism and everything to do with the predciptions you get from the optometrist

Your video is amazing. Can you tell me the duration of the breaks after 20 minutes? And, is it somehow better if i use kindle rather than smartphone? ( I don't love audiobooks, and can't afford all paperbacks i read)
To begin with I was doing 60 second breaks minimum. After a while, I started being able to see when things cleared up, when I was able to look into the distance comfortable. I could feel a little sense of relief in my vision. So once I got in tune with that feeling, I just started doing the breaks looking out the window until I felt that. Could be 20 second, could be 3 minutes... But if you can't feel that, 60 seconds is great to start with - longer would be better, but we are also less likely to stick to it if it takes too long. ;)
I think a kindle would be better than a phone because 1. the text would be bigger than on a phone, and can be made even bigger, so easier to read without holding it too close to your face (close to your face is the worst!) 2. definitely better if your kindle is not back lit. The glare in our eyes from screens is not great. Just make sure to keep it at a good distance from your face. Do some print pushing if you can, and take breaks. :)
I hope your daily routine, includes looking at your Snellen, and getting "clear flashes", of reading 20/60, (1 inch letters at 20 Feet. ) I will give you a Cell Phone App, that will allow you to check yourself - if you wish. The Cell Phone App is free. I use a mirror, so I can measure at 5 feet.
I suggest reading as much of EndMyopia.org as you can. There is so much information that Jake has compiled there. It can be a bit challenging to navigate, and the search function on the website isn't quite as good as google, so I would suggest googling things like "EndMyopia + children" or "EndMyopia + prescription complexity". Good luck!
That's great to hear! But you will need to reduce more than 0.25 for close up. That is how much you reduce for normal vision. For close up you need to reduce by closer to 1.5. Check these links for more information on this topic: endmyopia.org/faq-items/what-is-the-differential-prescription/ endmyopia.org/defined-differential-prescription/
Yep. Use your differentials for active focus up close, and your normalised for active focus middle to distance vision. All you need in order to do active focus is a blur horizon.
I got it from EndMyopia.org, but it comes with a measuring course now, which is paid (was free when I got it, a while ago). If you are after a free Snellen chart, you can find a printable one here, which includes instructions: www.provisu.ch/images/PDF/Snellenchart_en.pdf
I don't quite understand the question. If the optometrist said reducing 0.25 won't make a difference, then they should have no problem with you reducing by that much. Also, optometrists usually do not believe that this method works, even though the science appears in optometry journals that they should be reading. So, if an opto says this method won't make a difference, don't worry about that - show them.
I am high myopic and I can achieve active focus on close up without my glasses or differentials but I'm not able to achieve at distance I'm just not able to do it. Is it is difficult to do active focus at distance?
It is not really difficult, but it can be a little more difficult than up close to start with. But once you get it you will realise it isn't so hard. But what you are experiencing - that it is easier up close and harder at a distance - is normal.
@@GemilyMezThankyou And one more thing I can see at 18 cm without glasses and can make words at distance 26 cm readable with active focus but not sharp clear is it is normal?
Using the EndMyopia method, good improvement rate is 0.75 diopters a year. Can be a little bit quicker at the very beginning due to releasing ciliary spasm and getting rid of overcorrection.
That depends on just how high your myopia is. Different people have different ideas of what constitutes "high myopia". And it also depends - do you just want to "active focus" or do you want to improve your vision? Because you may be able to do active focus on the edge of blur 10 CMS away from your nose, but don't expect that to improve your vision. But, having said that, I have found that eyes do the coolest things when I sit and have a cup of tea and look intently at something with no glasses on. I can bring on moments of surprising clarity without my glasses, which don't seem to happen when I am wearing my glasses. So I don't recommend not wearing glasses usually, but for 20 minutes while you are sitting down looking intently at something other than a screen, it can be a fun thing to experiment with.
You got me on the first part I was about to comment "How are you improving like that". Nice one.

But I gotta do something...it's kinda ok, right now, but I'm already dreading next winter!
Try cod liver supplement it really works for dry eyes
Do you change your glasses from differentials to normalized each 20 min break?
How many hours of screen time do you have
Great thanks
Hi, great video 😉
But I got confused now, is it possible to do active focus with glasses?? I really struggle with ac and I've never tried with glasses on 🤔
You can do active focus whenever there is a blur challenge. So I have normalised glasses which are slightly lower than my full correction, so they give me just a little bit of blur. With active focus I can clear up that bit of blur. For EndMyopia, it is encouraged to just build active focussing into our lives, so that means being able to active focus when we are doing close up work, as well as just when going about our day. That is why differential and normalised glasses are important for the process - they introduce that small amount of blur that allows us to active focus any time.

Yup, with normalised glasses.

I wonder what app u use to listen to audiobook and what books u recommend ?

Thank you
Was active focus effective? Did u improve your eyesight
Hello! Should I wear my glasses while I am doing active focus? I am asking because you didn't take off your glasses.
Also I cook without glasses but don't know if that will help
yes my left ear got an earful
a little confused but what line are you supposed to look at on the snellen chart? 20/40? is this where you would practice active blur? also, how would you know when it is time to reduce your RX again?
additionally, I'm going to start my job as a nurse in the hospital soon.
Hey Gemili
Do you so anything specific for active focusing during night time?it's the only problem I'm facing idk what to do for my night vision.

I want a clear answer about what it is and how to do it , i know english but am not American or somethin , so I really find it hard to understand something with all of these fancy words , i had to google search every single word ,
And i got this , AF is just gazing into a letter or something that is blurry and then it just becomes a bit clear , right?

Gemily Mez thank u♥️♥️
Also I heard that your eyes will become stabilized around age 20-30, is that right? Are your eyes stabilized yet?
@@alexbean5876 Well, I heard that too, and maybe that would be true for some things, but not for lens-induced myopia when we keep using glasses for close up work. They just keep getting worse, unless we decide to undo the damage, in which case they get better! My eyes kept getting worse into my 30s, and now, in my 30s, they are definitely getting better again now I am doing EM.
So, for you and for me, no, our eyes aren't "stabilized" in the sense that they are set now and can't be changed. The eye is incredibly adaptive, even into and beyond our 20s and 30s.

But if you can't feel that, 60 seconds is great to start with - longer would be better, but we are also less likely to stick to it if it takes too long. ;)
I think a kindle would be better than a phone because 1. the text would be bigger than on a phone, and can be made even bigger, so easier to read without holding it too close to your face (close to your face is the worst!)
2. definitely better if your kindle is not back lit. The glare in our eyes from screens is not great.
Just make sure to keep it at a good distance from your face. Do some print pushing if you can, and take breaks. :)
@@GemilyMez thank you so much for your reply. I am practicing print pushing and going to take breaks for 60 seconds.

Good luck!
@@GemilyMez Thank you for your guidence.
I will certainly follow such routine ... But I reduced both eyes to 0.25 for close up will it work
That's great to hear! But you will need to reduce more than 0.25 for close up. That is how much you reduce for normal vision. For close up you need to reduce by closer to 1.5.

Yep. Use your differentials for active focus up close, and your normalised for active focus middle to distance vision. All you need in order to do active focus is a blur horizon.

Hey I followed end myopia journey.today I go to doctor he said their is same number .25 reduction don’t make any difference.what I should do?
I don't quite understand the question. If the optometrist said reducing 0.25 won't make a difference, then they should have no problem with you reducing by that much. Also, optometrists usually do not believe that this method works, even though the science appears in optometry journals that they should be reading. So, if an opto says this method won't make a difference, don't worry about that - show them.

It is not really difficult, but it can be a little more difficult than up close to start with. But once you get it you will realise it isn't so hard. But what you are experiencing - that it is easier up close and harder at a distance - is normal.

@@GemilyMez what was it before and how long did it take to reduce it??
Can i do af without glasses if im high myopic ?
