Describe the blur worked for me! I'm so amazed. I was reading a book, kept it at a distance where it got just blurry enough for me to struggle with the letters. Then I would slowly describe the blur per letter, and by the time I got to the end of the sentence, I would get a clear flash! And it lasts a while! Blinking for every half word helped a lot.
    Thank you!

So exciting! It's like the digital pictures that were new in the scene that had words hidden in them -you couldn't see the word at first but by staring and shifting the vision (sorry of like looking with the back of the eyes) the "hidden" words or designs suddenly popped out and became perfectly clear. Anyone remember those pictures?

  • @jaysongillham

Sometimes I get results from the opposite of the looking through method. If I can converge slightly so I’m looking in front of an object, I will see two copies of that object, one for each eye. The left eye’s image is on the left and the right eye’s is on the right. It takes a bit of practice to hold it there, but I can then blink a couple of times and it will start to clear up each image separately, then I will bring the two images together again and the relaxation that happens with divergence also stimulates the relaxing of the ciliary muscle and everything locks into place and is clear! Hope that makes sense! Great video! Congrats

Nice summary! Thank you for this video! There are a few approaches I didn't know about.I found active focus when I was sitting in front of the computer with my first differential glasses and was a bit tired. I was not sitting so upright, so the distance to the monitor had changed slightly. I didn't think about it and rather by chance I noticed that I can focus the text without changing my sitting position. You mentioned it several times in the video, but from my point of view the right distance is the most important thing. You can't be too close and you can't be too far away either. Blinking also works very well for me, but focusing like this feels a little bit different than reading normally at the right distance without blinking. I was able to active focus initially only close up (while reading). It took me a while before I could use it at a distance as well.

How does one know if one is actually doing active focus? Like Samantha just pointed out below, if there's just a tiny bit of blur, it's very difficult to notice any change. I often can't even tell where exactly the blur starts, because of some astigmatism and differences between both eyes. And then we all know that vision is not constant... So sure if you blink, sometimes the blur may get a bit less and another time it might get a bit worse, just depending on the quality of the tear film covering the eyes. So if active focus is only supposed to work with the tiniest bit of blur, then I think it's quite impossible to tell whether one is actually doing it.
That's why I've mainly focused on the Bates method for trying to improve my vision naturally, instead of Jake Steiner's method. Most things Jake says sound quite plausible, and I certainly prefer his scientific approach to some of the more "fluffy" interpretations of the Bates method. But since his whole method is based on this incomprehensible concept of active focus, I doubt whether I could ever put it to any practical use.

    • @stvvbb
      @stvvbb 3 роки тому +1

Bates method is actually outdated according to Jake, It can improve your vision but only temporarily. Since our generation is surrounded with screen and gadgets, Bates method won't last long. I think it'll only work with someone from country side.

I think there's two types of active focus, one type is when you're staring at text and it's blurry you blink and it's clear, and the 2nd type is when you see a far away object that is blurry , but then you pull it into focus with your eyes, in jakes podcasts many of the guests described it as the 2nd type. The 2nd type one is easy to find but not the first one. Like a close up active focus and a distance vision active focus.

    • @sararedbride9728

I also think if you have different prescriptionsit in each eye it will be hard to find active focus, specially if you also have astigmatism and you're doing it without the glasses, maybe try doing it one eye at the Time

I love the part, look at what you are looking at but I would like to add a lil more. What I found out about my vision is it was 100% casual vision. When I found active focus Iwas like, what is the difference, what the hell is going on, I feel a very small amount of strain/tension while active focusing (relaxed) similar to reading strain but much less. So what I figured out is casual vision is looking a lil past what you are looking at and taking it in. Active focus on the other hand is not looking past it and once you stop looking past, soon after you FEEL it Then it was so cool to go back an forth casual/active lol Since I have presbyopia too I feel the ciliary prolly way more than you guys.

If you have any of these two conditions:
      - diopter gap between eyes
      - astigmatism.
Try all those Gem 's tips, but with your head and pelvis turn a little bit to one side.
If does not work, try turn to the other side, both Head and pelvis.
      Remember to keep breathing.

I use a method similar to the passive focus. Look at eg the eye chart and don't make any effort to see the letters, and don't let your breathing become shallow or even stop, make it deeper instead. The attention is to avoid tension in seeing and shallow breathing. Then I feel that my eyes themselves find the way how to focus and see the letters clearly. My consious effort to see does not allow them to do that. I found it by myself and before seeing the video did not know that it is a kind of what is called the active focus. Also, Sculte tables. If I can not find the number, I breathe in deeper and the number "appears".
Always avoid direct effort to see clearly. I would also recommend "myopia is mental" youtube chanel.

@user-gw3gm8gj7h Yes, improved. It is not 100% by do not need that. These methods, "active/passive focus", "myopia is mental", really work. Improvement, no regression, I am satisfied and often forget to do the vision improvement.
The exercises such as turn your eyes left, right etc train muscles of eyes but not the vision itself. I think that these exercises may even spoil your vision. They were not useful to me. As far as I understand, myopia does not necessarily mean weak eye muscles, but contraction of wrong muscles: so that to see distant objects clearly, axes of your eyes should be more parallel, more like =, but they are like >, ie as if you were looking at a near object, because wrong muscles are contracted. Eyes get used to look at only near things and cannot to focus rightly on distant ones anymore. The vision improvement would be the ability to get the right eye muscle contraction. That is (one of the things) what "active/passive focus" and " myopia is mental" do. Eyeglasses are not the right solution. With eye axes > one sees clearly distant objects. Seams like a perversion to me. The inventor of the glasses did not intend them for all day wearing.
Do you practice any vision improvement methods, what is your thoughts and experience?

Sometimes cms won't move for a while. Make sure you are working on the edge of blur while you study, take breaks, don't use screens as relaxation time while you have to be in close up so much for study, and be very honest with yourself about how much you are looking at your phone screen. Keep an eye on your Snellen if you have one - sometimes your vision will improve before it shows in the cm measurements. And worst comes to worst, just focus on keeping your cms stable until you have passed your entrance exams, and then keep moving after that. Sometimes things will come up that mean we can't get the distance time we need, but at least with EndMyopia we have learnt to understand what causes increasing myopia, so we can make sure we aren't making things any worse.

When my finger is close to my eyes and try to focus on this, I feel like I'm using the front side of eye muscle, especially between my eyes. And while I increase the distance between my finger and eyes, I feel like I'm using more deeper muscle in my eyes. I can feel the functioning eye muscle is getting back? deeper? So I memorize this feeling of using the deeper muscle, the tendency of linearly changing and do in this way. I don't know whether this is active focusing but I think it works.
prerequisite is you have to focus on something hard enough to sense the muscle. Sorry for my bad english. Can you understand? :)

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  3 роки тому +2

Hey there. The normal rate of improvement is 0.75 diopters a year. Your rate of improvement depends on a lot of different things. E.g. perhaps you are a computer student but sit a good distance from your lap top screen and have a good ergonomic set up, and hardly ever use your phone, and still manage to go for a walk outside every day, or play sport, or commute to school and can look out a bus window during the journey. If this is you, then you can probably manage a normal improvement rate.
If you are a computer student who hunches over a laptop using awful posture, gets in close to the screen, uses a smart phone when you are not on the computer, and hardly ever gets outside, then your improvement is going to be very slow indeed. But if this is you, then you might want to ask yourself why you even want good distance vision.
And yes, you want lower correction glasses - you need "differential" glasses for close up work so that you are not over corrected for close up (which makes myopia worse), and "normalised" for everything else to give your eyes stimulus to improve. Get differentials first and use them for all close up for about 6 weeks. Then measure your vision (because it may have improved already) and then you can work out what correction you need for normalised.
