You are so right about Jake. He has helped so many of us "see the light". Haha. I imagine having a test lens kit would be great. Very much looking forward to being able to read even 20/50 on my Snellen without correction. It will come!
Hi Gem, I measure my vision, by turning on a light and reading at least 20/50. Then I use a -1 Diopter, to verify 20/20. But I refuse to wear that minus lens, except to drive a car.
Hey Gemily thank you for wonderful update of videos. I had been prescribed R -3.00 L-3.25 ,and it was checked in a dim room indeed. That was the day from when I started doing active focusing and exercises. Within one month when I measured my eyesight from this calculator i got R -2.25 L -2.50 I’m honestly baffled by this huge change and checked again got same results. Can you please tell from your experience whether this is accurate and i was really overprescribed by -1D?
Wow, this really helped. I just ordered my first normalized glasses based on my CMs. I am in the high range. I measured at R=22, L=18. I hope I got it right. We'll see when they get here.
Nice video Gem! Do you measure on pc only or also on paper? If both, do you find significant difference in cm? In my opinion pc gives a more generous cm result than text on paper.
@@GemilyMez 😊 I think that higher contrast on a device gives a better result. I find this in snellen phone app as well. Naked eye I can read 20/70-63 on snellen app, while on paper snellen just 20/100-80. Please let us know if you notice the same thing.
Deciding, where blur begins, is definitely a hard nut to crack, in the beginning. Just back from holiday and kinda stating from zero again, now. I had planned, to use it as a kind of ‚reset‘, but due to bad weather, I had lots more ‚close up time‘, than planned. Feels, like I forgot most of what I‘d learned so far already again. Good thing, I took notes on the important stuff, at least. 😆
Haha, oh dear. Well, hopefully you knew enough that things didn't get much worse with your eyes, even if they didn't improve. So good this process is so forgiving and allows for these fluctuations. :D
I have a ? I have been doing my close up measurements on my computer using the endmyopia calculator my left eye 3.25 and right is 5.50 how do I calculate my diopters for long distance.
Hi Gemily, this video was very helpful. When I measure, I see a big difference between my actual prescription what I m currently wearing and the one I measure on my own. What does that indicate?
It could be an issue with your correction, or your screen, or your measuring. 🤷♀️ Try printing out the page and measuring from it on paper instead. Any 12 pt font should really work. Or print out a Snellen chart and use that to see how much you can read with your glasses and without your glasses. That will help too.
Hi Gemily! I also do this rocking method when I have time. And I measure both eyes first as well coz I a saw a significant difference between both or just one eye, maybe 10 cm. I also make some notes about the weather and some activities prior to the measurements that might effect my eyesight. So when I see progress I know why it happens (AF session or just a day without scrins). Great video as always. Have a nice day!
Yeah, I like to keep notes in my log book about circumstances surrounding my vision too! That's why I prefer a notebook log than a digital log. A lot of room to "explain" ;) You have a nice day too!
When i read many blogs online about cure to HSV, all the news i keep getting was not satisfactory, but one day i can across the website of Dr Joe and that was the end to by HSV 2 virus when i visited his site i saw how he has helped so many so i contacted him via live chart on his website and today am sharing the goods news to you all that Herbal Medication has brought a natural cure to most diseases and virus and am a living testimony to herbal cure, So without saying much below is the link that will help you restore your health back to normal, this is real and please take it seriously click now and see what he can do (drjoeblessed.net )
Thanks for your videos. You are doing amazing job! I've got one question regarding measuring my eyesight with Snellen chart. It's difficult to understand what my number is because my eyes automatically autofocus on text. Do you use auto focus when you check your vision with Snellen?
I usually pay attention to both - what I can read with and without active focus. If you can't look at it without it focusing, how do you know it is not just your natural vision?
Hello, great video, thanks a lot! I was wondering why Jake says that you don't need glasses when you reach -1? If it is such a big cm gap? Will you wear glasses when you reach-1?
I think it is just that at -1 the blur is not so much that you are that affected in daily activities. Most people, when they first get glasses, aren't given -0.25 or -0.5 glasses - a lot of people's first prescription is around -1. Some people do keep using -0.5 and -0.25 normalised, and that is fine too. I guess a lot of people also hate wearing glasses and are excited to be able to get rid of them, so if you reach the point where you can get rid of them.... Even looking back at photos of the era when I first got glasses for myopia, I am not wearing my glasses consistantly - my first glasses were off as often as they were on. It was only my second pair, when the strength went up, when they are suddenly glued to my face. I think I will keep going with norms all the way back to -0.25, but I also imagine I won't have them glued to my face, and ultimately, I can't say for sure what I will do until I find out what I can actually see by that point! Already just getting to -1.75, I am so much more tempted to enjoy the world without glasses than before (but only when outside in full sun, when my vision is best).
@@GemilyMez as I follow u trustfully and totally rely heavily on u on my endmyopia journey. I have one request for u to please do some research on '''' PINHOLE GLASSES. Which many people recommend in utube videos. Thanks 😊😊😊
I've had horrendous double vision for 6 months to the point where the ground is rising upwards with and without glasses. Other than staring at contrasty text/distant objects and recognising the ghost image and going up in correction, what would you recommend? I went from a -1.75 normalised to -2 to fix the issue but it hasn't helped all that much.
Whoa! That sounds awful! I can't really tell what is happening for you, but I would wonder about your balance between your eyes - I get a bit dizzy and double vision-y when I am equalising. Or maybe your astigmatism correction vs. your spherical correction is off? Have you messed around with plus lenses at all? What was your full correction that you were wearing before you started EndMyopia?
The first correction I ever had was a -1.75 in both eyes which I used for two years with a quarter diopter of cylinder and then transitioned to a -2.75 which I also used for two years (same level of cylinder correction as before). The -2.75 did not account for ocular dominance so it was -3 for the left eye and -2.75 for the right. When discovering endmyopia, the only correction available for my normalised was my old 1.75s so I used that. That meant I started equalising with my first normalised glasses. That wasn't an issue however, as I didn't get double vision at all. I was also tested at another optometrist who said I didn't have any astigmatism whatsoever and Jake says there could be a half diopter margin of error when it comes to being prescribed for cylinder. So I don't think the double vision was caused by equalising or astigmatism as I never had DV during the first few months of endmyopia and I know it wasn't from plus lenses as I never used them.
To equalise and reduce cylinder at once, as well as it being a big jump... Seems to be a lot of explanation there for why your eyes are having trouble adjusting.
AB : " How does this possiby work ...". My response: Your own developing expertise ... must make you successful. I have been doing this work for 40 years. (For my blood relatives!) The absolute judgment, must be a Bright Snellen at 20 feet. This means your 20/40, consistently, is practical success. In my judgement, I must use low cost test lenses (4 for $25), to confirn that I have no medical problem. (You should include this, eventually.) Once prepared, it takes a real professional commitment. Gemily, you have the drive to do it. The most important success for you, is reading and passing the 20/60 line, at home. Medical involvement, is a waste of your money and time. You must stand alone. I do not want you to become frustrated, or discouraged, but this does require a long term effort.
It would be interesting to hear what other people say. For the purposes of EndMyopia, I just make sure I can read it without squinting or anything. It is not usually crystal clear for me at that stage.
Hi Gemily, Thanks for another wonderful and entertaining video on your progress towards 20/20 vision. I will have to discuss with my future partner about doing Jake's measuring course, be it the $129USD or $179USD one. I do think that the measuring course will be beneficial for me. If I decide to do the course later on, I will have to check Jake's website to see if the measuring course still has vacancies at that time. It was about 53 years ago, when I was 10 years old, that I started wearing glasses in the classroom. I don't know if the prescription was for astigmatism or astigmatism and myopia. My current prescription from Specsavers is, OS -7.5 and OD -6.0. From this video, I can see that measuring this distance will be more important for me as there's not much margin for error compared to where you are at the moment. From what you demonstrated, there's less margin for error measuring the vision distance when the diopter level is -4 or higher. From what I've seen of the printable version of Jake's ruler, it's in sections and they have to be joined together using sticky tape. I know the one you showed in the video is from the measuring course, did you have to join the sections together when you got it with the course? This video answered a question that I asked in a comment to another video of yours about the screen setup when using the vision calculator on Jake's website. I will have the screen at 100% when doing the measurements. Thanks for the video and have a nice weekend.
Yeah - I had the sticky tape the ruler. Because it prints on an A4 (or Letter) page, it comes in a few bits. If you get the measuring course + Le Rough Guide, it is all pre-prepared material, so it is always available. It is not one of the mentored courses like the "Back to 20/20" course that has limited places. I went for the $179 package because i really wanted access to the Pro Videos. It is true that accuracy is required, but the good thing is that our eyes are also very forgiving - if we get it wrong, we can always try again.
@@GemilyMez Just done my final measurement for today and there are some encouraging signs. My OS measurements have increased during the day. This is my non dominant eye. My OD measurements fluctuated but there was an increase overall for the day. At least the measurements are starting to increase but today might have a day where there were more good habits than on other days.
For the first reduction, just reduce sph. You can reduce some cyl later (like your second pair of differentials, and third pair of normalised would be good moment to get into the cyl if you want to). And as for axis - that is just the direction of your cyl. Reducing asix is only changing its direction, not reducing any sort of strength - you do can just leave the axis as it is. When your cyl gets to zero, your axis will go with it.
Thanks for the informative video! 👏👍 Hey, Gemily, we were talking about floaters in last video. I was just thinking about it today morning. I have noticed a reduction (complete vanishing) of floaters after a day of fasting and nice sleep. For example, I had fasted yesterday and today I have zero floaters. Then, these floaters seem to build up over time gradually. 🤔 I don't know, I just noticed it and someone else can try it and see if it works for them also. I generally fast one day per every fortnite, that may have been one of the factors in curing floaters.
I rarely notice floaters these days. They were annoying many years ago though. I fast on an irregular schedule so maybe you are onto something. I'll definitely do a fast next time I see a few floaters and take note. A fast helps many physical issues, so it's possible floaters are included.
Hm, I cant say I have noticed. It has been a while since I have done any fasting - before I started EM, so before I really started paying attention to floaters. It'll be interesting to hear what Kevin reports!
Very nice . Can you make a video on equlizing and patching. When to do equalising if high myopia.? My previous norms are same number for both eyes , but now ,with second norms my one eyes see better then other .
My next video - just up now - is on the topic of equalising and patching. ua-cam.com/video/gOPG2unbipM/v-deo.html I didn't address when to equalise with high myopia, but you can start equalising after you have made 2 successful spherical drops. This video I talk about hat a bit: ua-cam.com/video/_78Ofi4Qzvo/v-deo.html
If you have made a binocular reduction, and one eye suddenly sees better than the other, I would suspect that your dominant eye had adjusted to your previous norms, but that your non-dominant eye was still making adjustments. So you may have reduced a tiny bit too soon, but that's okay. Just make sure this time you wait for your non-dominant eye to catch up - the last thing you want to do is to leave it behind.
@@GemilyMez 24/12/20 doctor said you have 4.75 on both eye , that why I go for 4.25 on both . I am still wearing it about 6 month . In these 6 month , 4 month I didn't practice distance AF with , after 4 month, I notice I am wrong path I start paying attention on my distance AF ,that my mistake with my previous normalised. Now its 1 month I practice alot AF and I see some result with my right eye . I can see 20/40 without AF and with af it's become 20/30 20/25. But my right eye 20/70 without AF and without 20/50.
@@abrarahmed-qh4qo ooh, sounds like your right eye may even be undercorrected! The goal of a new normalised is to see 20/40. At 20/70 right eye may not be getting the right stimulus. You may want to think about actually going up a little in that eye... And then returning to your current normalised to equalise once your right eye has caught up. Just my thought - not medical advice.
Personally i like to measure once a week (on Friday) cause i really hate it when i see my vision fluctuates especially when you are in low myopia (-1.5 or below) . Last Friday i measured in the morning under artificial light i found 80cm for the first time ever i was so happy and then later on ... I spent alot of time on my phone ... Then i measured again i found 70 cm (-1.5) lol then i wore my Normalised -1 and i had good outdoors time walking with friends then later at night after i got back home i measured again and i found 76cm lol
Wow! Those are some big fluctuations! I can understand how over-checking may not be particularly encouraging in that situation (although it could shake you out of using your phone too much). 80 cms! Congrats!!!
@Jibon Sarkar Have you seen the video I made where I do my best to explain? Make sure you read in the description box underneath too - I link to a couple of helpful places to read a bit more that really helped me: ua-cam.com/video/tD7Hck_dKOI/v-deo.html
With Android it is hard to be sure because Android is built to be used across a wide range of hardware devices, and between different brands and models and device types, it is a bit of a challenge to make sure it works perfectly accurately on every possible type of device and hardware. This is a problem Apple does not have, as they control the hardware as well as the software for their devices. In the end, the Android app is great for taking measurements over time in order to track PROGRESS, as long as you keep using the same device all measurements should be accurate relative to each other. For measuring diopters in order to buy glasses, it would probably be worth double checking your Android results against the EndMyopia Calculator or a Snellen chart.
😅😅 I mean if I use my distance glass for close up ...after 30 min my result will must be different.. is there any rule to measure maiopia after close-up or before close up.
Yeah, I only reduced 1.5. If you don't feel comfortable, that is a good indication. As for how long you can wear distance glasses for close up before it has an effect, that depends on how easily your ciliary muscle locks up! If your ciliary muscle locks up very easily, and amount of time with overcorrection for close up could mean your measurements are worse until you have released it again. If you mean with axial length, I can't recall, but there was a study on it. I think it was something like even just an hour had an impact. Good news was that it took less time to improve than to get worse.
There is some really good information here from former EM community member, Ursa (RIP). She explains how to do this really well: community.endmyopia.org/t/working-group-on-astigmatism-guide/14060
I like this method, to this day I still have torublle measuring eob, it takes me about an hour to figure out where the blur starts and then my eyes get used to the thing im looking at and it becomes increasingly frustrating. i know i may be overthinking but i want it as accurate as possible especially if I am getting glasses. i am at -4.75 so I really try to make sure everything i do is accurate. is it necessesary to convert the eyes from the contact to glasses way.
If you are over -4 diopters, yeah, you ought to take into consideration vertex distance. Some people with myopia that is getting to a point where even being 1 cm out would change your correction, they measure while wearing differentials and then add on the diopters in the differential glasses. There is a good article about this on the wiki. I'll just see whether I can find it....
Couldn't spot it.... I am sure it is there some where. But basically, if you have differentials that are -2 diopters for example, put them on, measure your distance to blur, convert those CMS into diopters (e.g. say you get 1.75) then you add your diffs and your extra CMS to blur and get -3.75 as a full correction. Because this was measured WITH glasses on, this wouldn't need vertex distance consideration, I don't think. If you need more detail, I know NottNott did it this way.
@@GemilyMez Thats interesting, I never really came across this information when I was doing my research/ reading on EM. I did see on the blog recently about vertex distance, but not a lot of em followers who have posted any questions or concerns based on it.
in addition if you have proper distance correction so your both eyes working on same level, it would be easier for you to switch to your differencials, moreover if you have proper distance you may even have equal differentials if they have proper cylinder. Idea is that eyes should not strain at all and only one way to achieve it for myop is to have good distance where both eyes receiving same picture and proper differencials with proper cyl to help eyes to properly accommodate. people with cylinder would never proper accommodate with only spherical power. That's why all endmyopia people suffering from eye strain and scared to use distance glasses for close up work even for one second.
Hi there! Before you reduce your diopters, you should make sure you really understand the process and know what you are doing, - I suspect by your comment you aren't quite there yet. So, here are some resources to help you gather the knowledge you need before getting started on this journey. Good luck! ☛ wiki.endmyopia.org/wiki/Guide:Start_your_improvement_here ☛ ua-cam.com/video/nOS7Z8Ta0yw/v-deo.html ☛ ua-cam.com/video/xU6mJr16huk/v-deo.html
How does thhis even possibly work on different screen sizes and different screen resolutions? You would need at least measure the width of the 'Focus' Text with youre measure tape and then you would need to give the correct measure of the text on the website so that you can zoom in or zoom out to calibrate the text. Even the example graphic with the red arrow is overall blurry, so got no clue if i should really get as close to the screen as i can see pixels. Because that is the sharpest. I got -3 out of this and my actual oversubscribed glasses have -0.75
Around my neck? It is a type of necklace, called a "choker" (because it sits right up against the neck). Reannon, who also makes EndMyopia videos, wears one too - a bit more delicate though ( ua-cam.com/channels/Hkyr8O-4jeRM2cvAOQKbFw.html ). I really like them. Thanks for the compliment.
At the beginning, when I was just getting to know what my cms were, and how different circumstances affected my vision and by houw much, I was probably measuring about 4 times a day - just for the first week to get to know my eyes. Now I usually measure once a week, or sometimes daily if I have just made a reduction or am challenging myself.

Gemi!can u plz tell me i am very confused about my prescription i have +1.5 spherical in my both eyes and i am confused about the plus sign as i donot have hypropia so what does plus sign indicates???
If it is a plus sign, that would mean you are long-sighted, or far-sighted. That could be from hyperopia or fro presbyopia. I don't know of anything else a plus sign would be used for, but maybe there is something I am not aware of...
Hi, Gemily, I am having trouble with getting my edge of blur distance. Actually I am confused. I went through the endmyopia calculator and found the red arrow pointing at FOCUS. But I am confused to which line it is pointing at . Is it pointing at the 2nd or 3rd line from the bottom ? I see it pointing at the middle of these lines. This is important because I want to know how edge of blur looks exactly Here's the link to the calculator for u to clear my doubt easily: endmyopia.org/focal-calculator/calc.html
It is indeed pointing between the two. It is all approximate, so look for when the text starts to change from the clearer to the blurrier of those two lines. Somewhere in there. As long as you are consistent in what you are looking for, you will be able to monitor your progress.
That is amazing that you have a optometrist who will do that for free. Most optometrists who check your eyes for free are really depending on your buying glasses afterwards so they get paid. Have you used this optometrist before? If you haven't, be aware there may be some pressure to buy glasses before you leave if their eye checks are free. I would still recommend measuring your eyes yourself, as optometrists are taught to give you the very best correction possible (and then a little bit extra just to make sure). It is very easy to end up getting measurements from an optometrist that are actually stronger than you need.
Gemily Mez Yes ! He is the only optometrist that I always go for. He doesn’t really pressure me on getting new glasses, he just ask me whether I want a new pair and just advised me not to wear full correction if I consider getting a new pair, since it would give me headaches. Sometimes I would just come to his place, checking my eyes for free and leaving with a grateful “ thank you “.
Maam I am scared to tell my parents about my vision . When I measured them they were like 1.5-2 diopters pls help maam I am 13 and I am scared because they all the day tell me to stop staring at my phone and then also I can't leave my phone. 😭
I'm sorry to tell you what you may not want to hear, but if you want to improve your eye sight, then your parents are right. Smart phones are like poison for your eyes. Addiction to our smart phones is a very real things - they are designed to play on how our brains work by showing us shiny, colourful things, and then giving us little hits of dopamine with notifications. Step one for you, it sounds like, is to find ways to control your smart phone addiction. I have a little playlist on this... ua-cam.com/play/PLwZ22GCkeWqN3BksQER6Aoaydi1L4Xx-m.html

Is it necessary to do this step ? Because my optometrist said it is COMPLETELY FREE to check my eyes by measuring the diopters. 😊 he is my favorite optometrist because of that 😂
Alex Katsumiko Mine does that as well...but lots of people don’t seem to have that option. I think, in the US, you even need a Dr. prescription, to buy a pair of glasses (unless it’s from an online shop) or something? I definitely plan to periodically check my measurements there as well. They don’t seem to have overprescribed me in the past, so I plan to keep buying my ‚work glasses‘ (aka the ‚nice‘ ones) there anyway. Or have the actual glass part replaced anyway. I really like these particular frames and my online ones aren’t nearly as flattering (if way cheaper).
Two years later ... You are becomming a true expect. Why no do the optometrist thing ... Get a -1 dioper lens, and use it on your Snellen? How much does a -1 D clear your Snellen? That is the real way to measure your own refractive STATE. I HAVE NO TRUST OF ANY OPTOMETRIST MEASURE. You only need two minus lenses. A -1 D, and -0.5 D. You will need to do this for "your last Diopter. This makes you an engineering scientists. You have the intelligence for it.

Hey gemily,so basically does your measuring tape's tip need to touch the computer screen to get the accurate measurement? And thank you for the video!
Yep.

If I print out paper a paper to measure my Diopter, (cm measurement) what should be the ideal font size?
@@GemilyMez What do you think I should do? Stick with the -2?
What about astigmatism? If my other eye Is double

Hi Gemily,
Thanks for another wonderful and entertaining video on your progress towards 20/20 vision.
It is true that accuracy is required, but the good thing is that our eyes are also very forgiving - if we get it wrong, we can always try again.

in the first reduced prescription do we need reduce diopetr alone or cylindrical and axis also.if yes then how much need to reduce cyl

Hey, Gemily, we were talking about floaters in last video.
@@Kevin.L_ Nice! 😊
Hm, I cant say I have noticed. It has been a while since I have done any fasting - before I started EM, so before I really started paying attention to floaters. It'll be interesting to hear what Kevin reports!

My next video - just up now - is on the topic of equalising and patching. ua-cam.com/video/gOPG2unbipM/v-deo.html
I didn't address when to equalise with high myopia, but you can start equalising after you have made 2 successful spherical drops.

@@abrarahmed-qh4qo ooh, sounds like your right eye may even be undercorrected! The goal of a new normalised is to see 20/40. At 20/70 right eye may not be getting the right stimulus. Does “ edge of blur “ mean a tiny blur ?
Yep! Not lots.
80 cms! Congrats!!!

Is the endmyopia android app (dioptre calculator) accurate?
@@GemilyMez okay, thank you so much! Also, i use a 10 feet snellen chart but its in a pdf format in my laptop. I hope thats fine?

how to measure eye sight with after close up or before ?..is will must change wich one is. Correct.
Sorry, I didn't understand. Could you put this in different words?
😅😅 I mean if I use my distance glass for close up ...after 30 min my result will must be different.. is there any rule to measure maiopia after close-up or before close up.
Suppose if I were close up glass for distance for 10 min ... Result will must be different.
I reduced 2D close up and I don't feel comfortable I should reduce 1.5 or 1.75 I think..🙂
If you are supposed to use the calculator without glasses, what do you do if you have astigmatism?
There is some really good information here from former EM community member, Ursa (RIP). She explains how to do this really well:
community.endmyopia.org/t/working-group-on-astigmatism-guide/14060
There seems to be more talk of it on the Le Meow forum, from people who actually need to deal with it.
Here is a vertex distance calculator that someone just shared in the forum:
bvdcalculator.garethcooper.com
in addition if you have proper distance correction so your both eyes working on same level, it would be easier for you to switch to your differencials, moreover if you have proper distance you may even have equal differentials if they have proper cylinder.
After measuring how much diapoter should I reduce for new glasses
Hi there! Before you reduce your diopters, you should make sure you really understand the process and know what you are doing, - I suspect by your comment you aren't quite there yet. No, this is measuring spherical. There is a separate tool for measuring cylinder. endmyopia.org/diy-tools-how-to-measure-your-astigmatism-diopters/
Hi, Gemily,
I am having trouble with getting my edge of blur distance. Actually I am confused.
I went through the endmyopia calculator and found the red arrow pointing at FOCUS. But I am confused to which line it is pointing at . Is it pointing at the 2nd or 3rd line from the bottom ? I see it pointing at the middle of these lines. This is important because I want to know how edge of blur looks exactly
Here's the link to the calculator for u to clear my doubt easily:
endmyopia.org/focal-calculator/calc.html
It is indeed pointing between the two. It is all approximate, so look for when the text starts to change from the clearer to the blurrier of those two lines. Somewhere in there. As long as you are consistent in what you are looking for, you will be able to monitor your progress.
Is it necessary to measure this? My optometrist said its free to measure my diopters 🙂
