Legendary Radio DJ, Johnny Walker once played a live version of this on his show and made the 6pm news wait until it was finished. Bosses weren't happy but the public response was phenomenal 👏 👌 🙌

They open their gigs with Caroline, a brilliant way to open, we have just seen them again recently 16 Aug 2024 in Liverpool UK , Francis Rossi is 75 and playing like he is 30 ... no one was disappointed with that night SQ 24

Quo were the essence of rock 'n' roll in the 70s and this was one of their best examples. Plenty of great head-bangers to chose from, but my favourite of theirs is Mystery Song, which has a slightly more complicated, but brilliant riff (apparently Rick Parfitt spent all night in the studio refining it while the rest of the band went home). The album version has a slow, relatively quiet intro before the single version part of the track arrives and everything kicks off.

It's even more rare to get a smile out of John Coghlan the Drummer.
Rick is better known for being a cheeky, funny guy.
Yes, Rick loves to walk around the stage mixing it up with Alan and Francis.
Their album "Hello" had just debuted at #1 on the British Charts, so Rick may have been counting the money in his head.

As basic as it gets and it still might be my favourite Quo song. It's always a relief to see a performance from their younger days rather than the reformed band post-Live Aid. Does anybody really look or sound better when they are older? The green tele was still quite young at this time. I think it went on for about another forty years. Billy Connolly was successful enough in the USA to have his own sitcom there, but sometimes Americans embrace the strangest things, and possibly without even understanding them. I think there has always been a bigger divide between British and American music than most people realise. It was actually relatively rare for bands to be successful on both sides of the pond, and it took a lot of hard work to maintain it.

Great band the Quo. In 1993 a friend and l bumped off college to meet Rossi and Parfitt at a book signing in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Great down to earth guys. RIP Rick Parfitt. Then on the same night they played in our local leisure centre sports hall in South Shields just 3 miles from my house.

Ah..the Three Chord kings....calm down all you Quo fans....im only joking,...Francis Rossi even called them that.....saw them shortly before Rick died and they were fantastic.....Still had the energy of a young band and i suprised just how good Francis was on guitar👏👏....paper plane is a great song.

I was in Ontario in the summer of 1978 when Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty from Scotland smashed its way to the top of the Canadian charts. I think it's about how well their record companies promoted British acts over there. Quo would definitely have toured North America if they had some advance record sales to work with.

One of Britains biggest & best live bands. Sold 130m records worldwide. Played 7000 gigs & sold over 30m tickets. Back in the 70’s Quo toured the US & their gigs went down well. Their main problem was radio airplay & lack of representation. Last time they played in the States was in 2003 during their Heavy Traffic tour. Check them out live at Milton Keynes bowl 1984 & more recently at Download 2014.

Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" was released in '69, this track from 'Status Quo' was '73. It is strange that Status Quo weren't well known over with you, they had over 60 chart hits, with 22 top ten ones, their earliest being "Pictures of Matchstick Men" in 1968.

We got to hear the album version of this song, that was played over the Top of the Pops appearance, that would have been the single version. So, some clever editing going on, there. I'm not complaining, though.. from their 1973, 'Hello!', album that's considered by many to, arguably, be their best album as a whole. 'Roll Over Lay Down', 'Blue-eyed Lady', 'Softer Ride', and, 'Forty-Five Hundred Times', being the renowned tracks on it. This single was between, 'Paper Plane', and, 'Break The Rules', the latter of which you should react to, if you like their style of music.

Shame you did a Top of the Pops version, they are so tight live. They were my favourite band growing up, the first concert that I went to and the first album that I bought. Some of my favourite songs are Mystery Song, Big Fat Mama, Most of the Time, Ring of a Change, and lots of others. Surprising Quo weren't well known in Canada, they were huge in Australia in the 70s & 80s.

"Is there anybody out there who wants to rock.......is there anybody out there who wants to roll.....and is there anybody out there who wants to boogie?..........Tonight live from the Apollo Glasgow we have the number one rock n' roll band in the land". That's the introduction by Jack Lynton to their 1977 live album. I'd hardly call them a 'pub band' Chris, they filled stadiums. Try 'Big Fat Mama', 'Little Lady', Forty-Five Hundred Times' and a rather good cover of the Doors 'Roadhouse Blues'

" I can hear this racket from the end of the Road "
This was the price you pay for trying to educate your Parents on the finer points of "Rock " in some of its forms ! So a campaign of various Education programs commenced ! Bowie . Queen . Pink Floyd .
Wishbone Ash . Jethro Tull . Zep . Deep Purple . and so on !
But the results were quite negative ( Strangely )
Mother called in an Exorcist when I started playing the Sex Pistols . The Clash . Stranglers . SLF !
It all ended well ! Both Parents were awarded the "How The Hell Did You Put Up with that Crap "

They're a British band and the British pronunciation is Stay-tus Quo. Pronouncing names in the fashion of the country of origin is a courtesy that Brits extend to all nations, including American bands such as ZZ Top. Can you imagine how it would be if everyone on the eastern side of The Pond pronounced the name as Zed Zed Top instead of Zee Zee Top? Thank goodness we don't pronounce names such as Enrique Iglesias or Sinead O'Connor in the classic British manner! Anyway, it's great to see you enjoying Quo again. My favourite of theirs is "Whatever You Want" but I'd be happy if you could revisit Mike Oldfield after your unpleasant experience with his music before Christmas. I think you'll find "Flying Start", "To France" or "Moonlight Shadow" much more to your taste.

Please don’t forget to try and react to Tubeway Army’s “Blue Eyes”. Gary Numan before all of the synthesizers. More like punk. Oh, this is a really short song so you might want to listen to another one to make your video a little longer. “Basic J” is another good one from the same album and the album is called “The Plan”

If it had two ts, it would be stattus quo, like the Americans pronounce it.

You are wrong about the OED pronunciation, you have obviously taken the US pronunciation from it rather than the correct English pronunciation, STAY-tuhss.

Ultimately, _both_ pronunciations are wrong, as 'status quo' is Latin and sounds more like "stahtooss kvoh" 😄
