I am Malaysian. What do I think about China? 1. thank goodness for their reasonably priced machinery and equipment. It is an SME enabler for many developing countries. I can get a poultry processing line from China at a third of the price if from Europe. Ditto for excavators, cranes, etc. China plays a tremendous role as an economic enabler and multiplier because of its cheap goods, and innovative solutions. They don't price their goods like purely capitalist companies would. 2. thank goodness for their growing middle class, which with its huge purchasing power means that businesses that know how to sell value-added goods to them will earn more income. Example, durians, tiger prawns, high-end timber furniture, etc. 3. China have had centuries of trade relationship with the various Malay kingdoms without any wars. Malacca was thriving as a center of trade between China, India, and the various sultanates of the Nusantara and the Middle East. Then the Europeans came and destroyed Malacca and subjugated the local kingdoms and people and expropriate all the natural resources to Europe.
The approach to other countries and other civilizations between China and the West are diametrically opposite.

@@kuraphlau03 sadly pakatan harapan parties like pkr and Dap are generally anti China and pro US. they receive fundings and support from NGOs associated with NED(National Endowment of Democracy) which is a front for the C1A in their regime change operatives overseas. Brian Berletic from the New Atlas uncovered quite a lot of this about PH politicians. Don't get me wrong, I am not pro BN and anti PH, I used to be pro PH anyway. nowadays, I am not partisan, less idealistic and more realistic about my political views. Malaysian alternative media such as FMT and Malaysiakini are pro US/Pro West fanboys and whenever they report about China or Russia, they bash them just like Western MSM do. Dap and PKR rhetoric are as woke and progressive as their counterparts in Europe or USA Democratic Party. Cheers!

All anti-China news are propagated by the U.S, its Western and Asian puppets and their biased media. Decades ago when China was poor and backward, it was considered a friend for the simple reason that it could produce cheap goods. This was a time when every American could enjoy a good life with affordable products from China. The moment that China has progressed and developed to a level that nobody could have imagined, it is considered as a threat to U.S economic and military interests. So it is really about envy and jealousy. If tomorrow India becomes the second largest economy in the world, I can bet you, the U.S will treat it like how China is being treated.

I'm Malaysian, and here's my thought on China:
    - I like most of the Chinese people from China, they're so damn hardworking no matter how you portrayed them (I mean few times hardworking than us Malaysians). Of course there are some people who are lazy, cuz their families are already rich before they came to Malaysia.
    - People from China don't like to waste time, which is a good example for Malaysians to learn.
    - Most of our construction industries, manufacturing industries are getting better because of the machinery/equipments/transportation we import from China. Yes, we rely on their machinery a lot.
    - China is our largest trading partner for years, there's no doubt most of the things we used came from China, I'm grateful.
    - Chinese people from China, they got better purchase power compared to us, Malaysians.
China has brought more benefits to our economy, that's the main point.
Let's hope for the best of china, since Malaysia is trying to become better in terms of development and economy, without US hegemony.

No nation is perfect, but some focus on past grievances (as Canada apologizes for abuses 50+ years n the past) but todays abuses are not addressed. It's just a vicious cycle. So, when media here suggest China is our enemy, I ask "what are the leaders in Canada doing to address abuses here in Canada?"

    Hello Barrett,
Here's my opinion as a Malaysian Chinese.
A quote from the Three Kingdoms which every Chinese has watched on TV, one of the four major literature classics of China, states:
"He who wins the hearts of men is not far from ruling the world."
The same applies in the 21st century, where the internet makes information dissemination global.
My bet is on China because integrity and benevolence (a prequisite Confucian value for any government officials) will always triumph over hypocrisy and aggression as practised by USA and the West. China's foreign policy is win-win. USA's foreign policy is "if you are not with me, then you are against me" (Quote: George W Bush) Unquote: To hell with your freedom, it's my freedom over your freedom. A zero sum game mentality.
If USA wins, people around the world will get the status quo, a world full of sufferings in many parts of the world.
If China wins, there will be peace and harmony around the world, a better world. A global Singapore, so to speak, where people of different cultures and religions can live in a thriving global village.
USA rules by divide and rule, hence the constant wars and the global humanitarian crisis that follows, caused mainly by the West. Ukrainians and Russians will henceforth become enemies instead of friends.
China rules by uniting the world, hence the BRI, allowing global cultures to live in harmony. To live and let live. Finally, zero wars, unless of course, the West continues with their military imperialism.

Welcome to Malaysia. Thank you for conducting the interview in Malaysia. If you have asked the Malaysian viewers here in your channel, I bet that the percentage of positive responses will exceed 90 %. But then, this will not be a fair and random survey. Hence, your survey on the street of KL is important. Despite the small sample of interviewees, the outcome is significant in three respects. Firstly, the positive effects of China on the Malaysian economy is under-reported in the local mainstream media and non-Chinese multi-media. Secondly, the local political narratives which demonise communism and Malaysian Chinese dominance in the local economy, have created negative thought amongst the less-informed Malay and other non-Chinese population. Thirdly, the influence and legacy of Western ideas of freedom and rights present a difficult hurdle for some Malaysian and foreigners to comprehend the great improvement achieved in China today. It is therefore of utmost important that we do our part to improve the present situation . Last but very importantly, we should continue to support the BARRETTS in their good works. I am a Chinese American working in a university. I have met some Chinese Malaysian students. They all can speak fluent Chinese and are proud of their Chinese origin. This remains to be a wonder to me how the Chinese communities in Malaysia maintain the Chinese tradition and the love for the motherland. This is a unique phenomenon. I wonder whether the practices in Malaysia can be replicated in other countries that also have large Chinese populations, like the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, Australia, and the US.

First you need at least 40% of the population as minorities - to ensure there is no force assimilation programs by the govt. Then you need to make major religious and cultural festivals as national holidays. Malaysia has one of the most national holidays in the world. Thirdly, you need to artificially create clusters of Chinese/minorities areas. In the case of Malaysia, the govt created New villages as a response to curtail communism in the 50/60s, which unintentionally preserved the Chinese culture post-communism. Finally, allow minorities to have their own vernacular schools. 90% Malaysian Chinese study in Chinese schools.

Nowadays, most younger Malaysians have poor command of English. This is partly due to our education system which de-emphasized English in favour of the Malay language. Also most Malaysian Chinese prefer their kids to study in Chinese vernacular school unlike in the past, so they are better in Mandarin than in English. Still, in Malaysia, to have a good command of the English language is seen as prestigious but I believe this will dwindle in the future if our world becomes truly multipolar. I noticed older Malaysians of whatever ethnic group speak better English though - partly because they were educated when we just got our independence from the British and English as a school subject has not degraded to our current abysmal level.

I am from Malaysia . Most Malaysians have a neutral view of China and most other countries. We are generally not too ideological on things. As a Malaysian Chinese, I have to say some within that community are staunchly anti China and pro Taiwan whereas some are anti Taiwan and pro China. I am not too sure of the proportion of those who have such strong views though. I was told by some 'Chinese educated' friends that Malaysian Chinese newspapers and media are pro Taiwan and Taiwan has strong influence on younger Chinese educated Malaysian Chinese. I can't be sure on this because I am a 'banana' and can't read Chinese (my mother tongue is Manglish , my Malay and English is better than my Mandarin). Perhaps Chinese educated Malaysian Chinese can share their perspective. I myself have positive views on China and generally pro China, surprisingly, despite being a 'banana' and more influenced by the West. Not too sure if there are many in other communities(Malays, Indians, Ibans, Kadazans and others) who have any strong views. Generally, we Malaysians are neutral and pragmatic people.

"Most Malaysians have a neutral view of China" because Malaysians aren't aware of what the China government is doing in the world. ALSO, the vloggers used the word "China" has a hidden meaning. China as in the China Government Vs China as in the Country and the Citizens of China (Exclude the Government). They are different. When people ask you about China, you should as them back for specific. So, when people say "anti China", it means the China government. You have to be really clear what the people are referring to.

    • @arcturus4067

@@ahantu when I say Malaysians are generally neutral about China, I do mean the Chinese Government. And many educated Malaysians do know what China is doing in the world, and we also do know what USA and the West is doing too. We do know none of these great powers are Saints, all sides do sh1tty ev1l stuff. Malaysians are generally pragmatic and non ideological. What the Chinese Govt does in their own country is their own business. Generally we don't really care. For those Malaysians who are partisans or take sides though, I am sure they might be some Malays who dislike China due to the Uyghur issue much highlighted by MSM, or some Indians who will take issue with the Chinese Govt, or pro Taiwan /pro West folks who generally accept Western ideals of governance who will hate the Chinese Govt. This interview is not representative of Malaysian views of the Chinese Govt because many foreigners were interviewed rather than Malaysians. I still think most Malaysians (who generally have poor knowledge of geopolitics, we are more concerned about our situation within Malaysia, our businesses and our economy rather than ideological matters) will have a neutral view - what Chinese Govt does within China is none of our concern, Chinese govt do some bad stuff(we get these news from our media which parrot Western MSM, as well as Western MSM where educated Malaysians get their news from) but the same Govt improved China from dirt poor country to a rival of the usa(good + bad = neutral). That's my take even if we, including those who are well informed, are asked about the Chinese Government, except for a minority who may have strong views.

I have lived in China with my family for 8 years ( my husband worked there for almost 20 years) and was fully immersed with their people and culture, living with the locals. Very hardworking , polite and humble . The older generation went through the hardship of Cultural revolution and being closed up for decades against the outside world, they seemed “crude” and impolite to the outside world but when you get to know them, you will be surprised about how genuine and warm they are and their eagerness to connect to the outside world. The next generation does better , are educated , polite and are more open minded in fact more advanced and forward thinking than many youth from other countries. Chinese rapid growth in wealth at big urban cities has also produced some black sheep who are proud and entitled , not behaving in foreign countries but these are only black sheeps though seemingly look like many it is because China has many people so look at it in context. The authority is also constantly educating its citizens on proper manners and behaviors. We should give time to a country who has opened up its door not too long ago and they have done very well. China is like a continent, urban rich at the coasts but there are still many poor people inland and it is a big job not any country could manage. I am proud of the efforts its government is putting into to improve the lives of many esp the poor and it is also a very big country to defend in case of attack so they need a huge army to do this job. From my opinion living there, it is a progressive country and not surprising many foreign expats from the West did not want to go back

Generally, young Malaysians are not that interested in politics that do not affect them directly in their everyday lives. In our multiracial society, it's usually the Chinese people who are more interested about what's going on in China, for the Indians, India political goings-on may pique their interest more. The local Malays is more concern about the local politics because they think it will affect them most even if it affects all Malaysians as well. Malaysian love China! I do. Most of the people you spoke to can’t speak well and don’t have much information and knowledge about foreign news.

That's Good, bro. I am Chinese and when westerners hear that they start saying negative things about China. I am not born in China though, but Chinese are also majority in Singapore and Malaysia.
