Yes, but the geographic location of Taiwan is crucial to the naval containment of China. Then again, I thought the location of Afghanistan was key to monitoring the western frontiers of China.
Maybe while Biden is president, but most Americans I know of are very supportive of Taiwan as a free nation separate from China. The U.S. hasn't got a history of abandoning allies. But Afghans were not particularly benefitting the U.S., either. Taiwan has other supporters, too, including Japan, which is also a strong U.S. ally. The man who said that was a CCP influenced stooge. Maybe you are too?
@@deaddocreallydeaddoc5244 Ignoring your clear partisan bias - you seem to have glossed over what other things the "CCP influenced stooge" said. The US understands how significant Taiwan is towards containing China's power projection and maritime claims - the US wants to remain the dominant military power not only in the region, but the world. Japan was literally occupied and had its society reformed by the US after its surrender, so it's in their best interest to stay on the US's good side. Post WW2 relations between China and Japan aren't exactly good, even though the younger generation holds less animosity towards each other. As a Taiwanese living in Taiwan, I really appreciate the different perspectives this interview provides, not just for foreigners but also for local Taiwnese as well. The media here lacks this kind of transparency and inclusivity.
My parents immigrated from Taiwan and I was born in the US. I feel like the general consensus here is that most Americans will SAY they support Taiwan if they're asked about it- but it's not because they understand the Taiwan/China relationship, it's because they're against the Chinese Communist Party. If Taiwan and China started a war today, I don't believe the US government would commit and provide the support that many local Taiwanese people might expect from this side of the world. Personally I don't have a strong preference on green or blue, but most of my family lives in Taiwan so I do really hope for peace.
Based on this small sample, we can see that Taiwanese people in general: - Have a clear opinion about this topic and feel free to speak their minds. - Think Taiwanese media are biased toward independence. - Have different points of view about their nationality and relation with China. - There are generational gaps on this topic; most young people consider Taiwan is an independent country. - Even if they see Taiwan as a de facto independent country, still prefer to keep the status quo instead of risk a war. - Don't think a Chinese military invasion is imminent, especially because its huge cost. - Feel moral support from countries like the US, Japan, etc, but are not sure about actual help in case of war. - NOBODY wants war.
The status quo can't continue indefinitely though because of the fact the media is biased towards independence, which is also the reason young people are more pro-independence because they grow up in media telling them to be so. The status quo can only last until the older generations die off, and then war is inevitable because the young people will try to declare independence.
@@amihart9269 Or the young generation realizes that they've gone too far, their generation after them (those in school today) actually reel it back a bit.
Oh did they asked us if war was wanted when they fly those US made jets above us all the day just decades before? Nahh, we don’t really care about how they feels anymore, they can choice either unification with blood or without.
This video is very clear and straightforward to let us realize the influence of a person's education and experience on his thinking. The less knowledgeable a person is, the easier it is to have extremely one-sided thinking, and the easier it is to be used by others.
It’s NOT complicated!!! The island of Taiwan was ceded to Imperial Japan by the Qing dynasty after the 1st Sino-Japanese War. After WWII, Japan relinquished its control over the island of Taiwan, repatriated most of the Japanese people that inhabited the island, and returned the island to China: 1 country 2 systems is how it has existed until now. Reunification was always the goal of the both the Nationalist and the Communists before the Communists fully gained control mid century and established the PRC. Mao Zedong claimed the island as belonging to the PRC. Deng Xiaoping repatriated Hong Kong from British Control and tried to peacefully repatriate Taiwan. Preeminent Leader Xi and the politburo standing committee are now adamant that the island be brought under control of Beijing. My proposal is that the U.S. and Japan unilaterally grant citizenship to the 25 million, mostly Han Chinese, living on the island and have the UN openly declare the island as belonging to the PRC. It’s the only way to preserve liberty for the Taiwanese people AND ensuring that international justice be served.
@@Stephensouraski the 25 million living on the island are mostly Han Chinese. Yes, they prefer democracy, but they are not under the delusion that Taiwan is or were ever an independent state. Many people have family on the mainland.
So true. His description of how the US will only look out for Taiwan as long as Taiwan benefits the US is so spot-on. And he does not blame the US for that - he specifically calls out how it is natural for each country to act in its own interest. What he does not speak about (but I'm sure he knows all about) is how the Taiwanese government has pursued an intentional decades-long strategy of *ensuring* that Taiwan remains a benefit to the US, and to the world. This of course is its development of the semiconductor industry. In recent years this strategy has paid dividends, but it was not accidental: smart people planned it this way. Taiwan will not go the way of the Kurds or the Afghanis, and the reason, somewhat amazingly, is semiconductors.
@@henrykenyon311 Yes, finally someone point it out. There will be no way in this world the US will let China take the semiconductor tech from Taiwan by annexed it. Edit: At least they won't let China take it freely.
@@henrykenyon311 True but is fighting a war with China potentially going WW3, be worth it at the cost of some semiconductors. Something which isn't impossible to produce in other places. That is a variable that did not exist with the kurds or afghans.
@@IronKurone Your understanding is too narrow, semiconductors are not that important, China never unified Taiwan because of semiconductor technology. Taiwanese companies rely entirely on Equipment from Europe and the United States, and TSMC cannot make chips if the United States embargoes Taiwan. Smic would have mass-produced 5nm without the US blocking amSL. China is now testing 28nm domestic equipment, I know this year's domestic equipment has not passed the national acceptance, I expect that by 2025 at most, China will have a 28nm production line that has been mass produced. The timing of reunification depends on China's supply chain dependence on Europe and the United States. The most dependent is semiconductor, and there are too many Chinese engineers in the semiconductor industry

Young people in Taiwan should understand that conflict with China, means that Taiwan will become a battle ground, and the U.S. will use Taiwan as a pawn in the super power conflict. We should learn the lesson from Vietnam, in which millions of people died, and the U.S. bombed, and poison the land.

One thing I observed during my visit few months ago shock me: big portion of Taiwanese does not know much about mainland China (most info. from western/local media) and they are quite proud of having relationships with Japan.
What surprises me is how unbelievably intelligent these Taiwanese people are with their answers, especially the two elderly gentleman and their wisdom. I truly wish that things can be settled peacefully.
I want Taiwan to be safe I don't like the idea china invade Taiwan. I love Taiwan and it's people it's their right to have their country it belongs to the taiwanese not China. 😞
The older gentleman at 19:25 truly understands what is at stake when he asks where such a war would actually take place. His view is quite sobering on the US as well. I'm always amazed at how much better informed people around the world are about our own US foreign policy decisions. His remark about our abandonment of the Kurds and Afghan nationals shows just how clearly the world has lost faith in our resolve to aid and defend our allies. And he's absolutely right. Why should he trust that the US will actually defend Taiwan against a Chinese act of aggression. Depending on who is running the country, it's anybody's guess whether the US would offer aid or seek to adopt an "America first" foreign policy that abandons our allies and trade partners.
The U.S has intervened before during the Taiwan Strait Crisis'. It's important to note that the situation in Afghanistan is completely different from Taiwan. If the Taiwanese people are willing to fight, the U.S, Australia, and Japan will be there to help in some form or another. That said, a war is unlikely. I feel that relationships between Taiwan and Japan/US will only improve more and more over the next few years.
@@FloofyMinari yes. But physical war is what America wants. China does not want that. Taiwan doesn't either. The U.S is being selfish with China vs U.S sentiment
@Jerry you realize that if China lands into Taiwan, they will be facing guerilla warfare right? It's like the Vietnam War but Taiwan would have better equipment instead. Yes people will die but it's going to be a pain in the ass for China.
As a Chinese I really like to watch this kind of videos because I can know Taiwanese people’s ideas. And I respect every different idea. The only thing if I pray for is humanity and peace.
What the guy at 19:25 said struck a cord with me. War between the 2 big countries will devastate every smaller country in between. While not as close as Taiwan, this sentiment is shared by many people in SEA like myself.
He is too naive to perceive the evil nature of Xi or you can say communist party of China. Whether Xi will launch a war against Taiwan or not is nothing to do with anything Taiwanese do nore any reasons from Xi but depends on the costs and probility of taking Taiwan successfully. That answer the man gave at 20:40 is very well articulated. He understands that international politics isn't about right and wrong, but about power. I don't say this to demean the US, I'm American myself, but once you start to look at international politics in terms of power it makes much more sense, doing the right thing is sometimes just a side-effect. Each country is looking out for their own self-interests.
This is correct. Fortunately for Taiwan, China is such a threat to the United States and Japan that using Taiwan as a hedge against China will be a reality well into the future. The USA will have Taiwan's back for decades--not because of some neoliberal feeling nonsense, but because it's better (from the American perspective) to fight against Chinese expansionism using Taiwan as a battering ram/shield than to fight them in a real US v China kinetic war.
sadly young generations of Taiwanese are blinded by their beloved 'democratic' system, which in my view has been abducted by their political parties to gain votes only rather than to truly delivering positive results in the best interests of the constituents.

@@xiahnti first of all the Americans created the mess in Afghanistan so they should clean that mess up again. The people in Afghanistan don't hate the US troops so it's not like no one wants them. The kurdish problem is a lot more complicated as their enemy is turkey and turkey is allied with the US, but at the same time the US killed saddam hussein who oppressed and killed thousands of kurds. The latest event was in west Kurdistan or north Syria where just the presence of us troops was enough to hold back turkey from doing a genocide in that region and it was guaranteed by the US to leave the troops there becuase the kurds were the biggest enemy of isis and worked together with the US troops to fight them. Trump pulled the troops out of there and send them to the oil fields which left the kurdish population exposed for turkey. This is seen as a big betrayel from the USA by the kurds and that's why many kurds dislike the USA. So you can't make guarantees and interfere in everything and than just pull out in the middle of things and expect to have done the right thing. Every situation is different and you should have a look at them before talking about them. I guess a lot of western people don't know the relationship between China and Taiwan. I'm from China and now studying in the U.S., and please allow me explain it. In short, their relationship is kind of like that of North Korea and South Korea, or Eastern Germany and Western Germany. The people in China and Taiwan are generally of the same race and speak the same language, and the cultures are pretty much alike. Taiwan does have its native people, but they account for less than 3% of the population now. Chinese people started to immigrate to Taiwan since the 1620s when Netherland conquered Taiwan, and later China defeated the Netherland and Taiwan became part of China. More Chinese people immigrated to Taiwan after that. Unfortunately, in 1895, China lost a war against Japan, and Taiwan was ceded to Japan. The Japanese ruled Taiwan for 50 years until 1945 when it lost the WWII and China got Taiwan back. At that time the population of Taiwan was about 7 million and the majority were Chinese people but they received Japanese education. Sadly, only one year after that, the Chinese civil war broke out and in only 3 years, the then Chinese government (Republic of China, or ROC) lost the war to the Russia-supported Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and had to flee to Taiwan (CCP did not have navy then). ROC brought about 3 million people from the mainland to Taiwan. The CCP founded a new regime called People's Republic of China (PRC) on the mainland, and since then there were 2 Chinas. Either side considered itself the only legal Chinese government and the other side being illegal, which is still the case for both governments. But now the people in Taiwan, especially the young people prefer to think of Taiwan as an independent country because they know that they can never defeat the PRC and there's no benefit doing that. The people in China generally prefer to think of Taiwan as part of China which should be united with the mainland.
So many people from the interview present their own critical intelligent thinking from perspective I have never heard! This video is so cool! I like Taiwan and Taiwanese people! Love from Chinese!
Their are countries who do horrible things in peace time, but it doesn't compare to the amount of suffering that war causes. Maybe not a great comparison, but the numbers fit. This shows us why war is always a terrible option we should avoid as much as possible.

( unfortunately many people like me have experienced strong discrimination from Chinese people while some Taiwanese people also discriminate against Chinese people quite strongly, this is an issue that both sides should acknowledge and take action to it) ( these are usually the younger generations) ( there is a lot of stereotypes that both sides have for one another due to our differences, for example, I have met some Chinese people who think Taiwan is a very undeveloped place and have no manners whatsoever -to be fair a lot of Taiwanese people like me tend to have a dirty mouth, this is due to our culture and the nature of our own dialect language- while I have met some Taiwanese who thinks Chinese people are narcissists who only cares about themselves, we also make fun of each other accent a lot as well, but yea things are not exactly as positive as it should) ( disclaimer, I have no ill will towards Chinese people at all, I do understand where these people are coming from but I don't believe any of this a single bit) ( this is racism and it's horrendous) Again, this all depends on how you are taught and your thinking, the stuff I said here are all either statically correct or my own experience, obviously I am biased when it comes to experience and politics, please don't try to fight me against my own belives, thank you :DD But yea! Rural vs City is an excellent point. It provides a whole perspective. Population however, is not as representative. But althoe wealth may be created in a city many with wealth and leisure wish to move to the countryside for "peace and beauty". And those who live and work in the rural areas, in poverty, also have a say. It appears it would provide some sort of balanced, I agree.

Russia's missile attack on Kiev made it clear that Russia would send troops to attack. The whole world said that Russia would not send troops to attack, but only the powerful United States said that Russia would send troops. The Minsk Agreement in Ukraine was signed by Germany and France and Russia, and neither Germany nor France wanted to send troops beforehand. It is not stupid enough to wipe the butt of Germany and France, but only lend a helping hand in the surrounding countries at the right time, and the latter depends on the determination of Germany and France. As overseas Chinese who worked with Taiwanese in Mainland China before, I'd like to say the majority people I met are intelligent and hardworking. They are satisfied with the current situation and don't want to go further into war. Let's keep it calm and peaceful.
You are right, Taiwanese people never considered war an option, the CCP does. What I think you are trying to imply by 'don't want to go further into war' is 'they don't want to pursue independence'. Well, thing is, it is a thorny issue, as anybody can obviously see it is hard for somebody to make a free choice with a gun pointed at their heads. Interestingly enough, a Taiwanese survey from some years ago found that the answer to whether Taiwanese people would want independence was dramatically positive when, to the question, was added the clarification 'if independence would not lead to a war with China'. Obviously, nobody wants to be bombed, if they can help it. It is also sad that the current status quo, hypocritical as it may be, is no longer accepted by the CCP, which will probably launch an invasion in the next few years, according to many observers.
Thank you for providing a glimpse into the feeling of everyday people who are actually affected by these issues for those of us who are far removed from the region.

Borrowing a saying by Deng Xiaoping, "Be it a white cat or a black cat, a cat that catches mice is a good cat." Yes, be it democracy or communism or socialism, the political system that brings peace and stability to a country is a good system. A system that brings prosperity and a contented life to the people is a good system. USA is so boastful of its democracy, but look at the life of the Americans, I doubt how many Americans are satisfied with their lives. The country is so much troubled by Covid, random gun shootings, shop robberies, poverty, homelessness, crimes, racism, inequality, extremism and terrorism. Democracy in USA has been misused by crooks, abuse by politicians. --Eugene C That was why President Xi said to his government in late 2017/early 2018 that "the world is set to undergo a sea change which has not been seen in a hundred years, & China has to be prepared to deal with it." It reflects his confidence & insight into the inevitable rise of China together with Asian countries, in the face of western developed countries weakening due to their mishandling of their internal social & economic problems, & the consequential conflicts that China has to face & resolve with the West. The legacy of the past colonization of the world by the West will be a hidden driving force for US to convince some cohort countries to do whatever it takes, be it hypocritical, deceitful, dirty, &/or unscrupulous to oppress & bully China. China knew it was coming, but is soberly prepared to respond to each & every aggression with matching effect & intensity under its control of pace & initiative of/on moves. However, China's ultimate intent is to make the aggressor understand that confrontations & oppressions do not benefit anybody, but harmonious co-existence, mutual respects, & constructive co-operations for win-win results will not just benefit both sides, but also the whole world. -Donat Wu 👀

If you're going to claim this was a random street interview, but then ask to seek out a deep blue youtuber (and not disclose it), you're being incredibly dishonest and it's unethical journalism. It's already come to light that according to a dcard post and a Taiwanese independent producer, Asian Boss were asking to specifically find someone with these minority/decades-old views to skew the video. Sean, the deep-blue youtuber, himself admitted in a FB post he was sought out by Asian Boss... that's not very "unbiased" of you guys.
Thank you for the input. That said, if deep blue is minority, it's good to find them and let others know about their views. Asian Boss probably shouldn't avoid/ignore these people simply because they're deep blue or hold ancient views. That guy also weren't wrong about most Taiwanese are Han Chinese migrants and their descendents (since a few hundred years ago), and historically many aboriginal Taiwanese were killed by newly arrived Han Chinese. I would say a more problematic issue in the video is that they don't do some of the interviews in the central or eastern part of Taiwan, where there are more Native Taiwanese. They should really get some views from what Native Taiwanese think about the issues.
I feel this interview is somewhat biased, but it could still reflect the issue that lies on Taiwan-China relations. The thing is that the comments below this video are biased
Gregory A.T. 'Sean, the deep-blue youtuber, himself admitted in a FB post he was sought out by Asian Boss... that's not very "unbiased" of you guys' ??? If you read his FB post and comments properly, he admitted that they met by CHANCE! Also, EVEN IF, even IF, he was sough out, how is that not "unbias"? Getting a more balanced view is not "unbiased"? This topic is an extremely sensitive topic in Taiwan. People that support Mainland China and Taiwan being part of the same country, WILL NOT openly voice their opinion out in public as theyre afraid of being demonised and potentially having their family split because of their views.
It is only bias when you see views that are opposite to yours... that is why there can never be balance, people want their own demented echo chambers, not knowing that they also try to stifle another point of view because you think you are in the right... Learn a thing or two about dialectics, it is not about choosing a side, but to synthesis opposing points and finding solutions, there will always be a constant flux - people wouldn't get worker rights without socialist ideology that promotes 'fairer' wages and work schedules in contrast to full on maximising on capital.

As a Taiwanese person, I would say that there is a HUGE oversight on Asian Boss's part, that these interviews were all done in the city of Taipei. Using the terms of one gentleman being interviewed, Taipei is considered more blue than green, so even if the sample were completely random and thus representative, the portrayal would still be skewed towards the view of people living in Taipei. A much more statistically significant sampling can be found online at the Election Study Center at National Cheng-chi University (NCCU). Once you get outside of Taipei, views change significantly.

It's a very complicated issue to be honest. You can have different answers in multiple perspectives, such as law, culture, military, Sino-US relationship, race, economics, politics..... the simple classification of either blue or green does not make it a whole picture.

Knowing the following will help you understand the relationship between Taiwan and China: 1. China and Taiwan are actually in a state of Civil War (no armistice agreement has been signed). For a long time, China regarded Taiwan's "Republic of China" as the former dynasty, while Taiwan's "Republic of China" regarded China's Communist army as an anti-government armed force. 2. Both sides regard each other as part of their sovereignty at the constitutional level. 3. In international diplomacy, both sides implement the single diplomatic principle, that is, the international community can only choose to establish diplomatic relations with China or the "Republic of China" of Taiwan, not with both sides at the same time. 4. Most countries in the world (including the US, Japan, Canada and Australia) actually have formal diplomatic relations with China, while there are only non-governmental exchanges with Taiwan.
I think thats outdated to be honest, Taiwan doesnt feel its at civil war, or 90% of the people dont feel that way. They just want to be left alone. What you are talking about 'both sides' is the ROC Constitution, but nobody really believes in the constitution. The ROC constitution is that of a dead country, the ROC. Many if not most want to change the constitution, but cant because would instigate a war. The things you listed are really from the PRC side, from the Taiwan side, its only a reality because Taipei is under duress not to change it
@@matt3706 Got to give the person credit for trying to be balanced though, it gives good context of some of the issues that need to be resolved to formally fix the issues. Thanks for sharing those voices. I'm from mainland China and have been to Taiwan. It's a stupid tragedy started by the Chinese Civil War, from what I can't expect there would be a happy ending. I know people are different, but I know as well that whether you pursue reunification or independence, the initial motivation is a better future. It's just that we believe in differrent things, or were taught differently.
I agree with you. I'm from Taiwan. ROC is a country according to its own constitution. Even the constitution of ROC declares unification of China and doesn't recognize 'Taiwan' as a country. It's the DPP that brainwashes people and want them and the West to think Taiwan as the Republic of Taiwan, not Republic of China. ROC and PRC don't belong to each other. But the truth is -- just like South Korea (Republic of Korea) & North Korea (People's Republic of Korea), both recognized in the UN, are parts of Korea that is divided, Taiwan (not to mention that it's not even recognized as a sovereign state in the UN) & Mainland are also parts of China that is divided.

As an American with Taiwanese parents, I feel like this interview was very insightful with the locals opinion in Taipei. Like I stated, these interviews are generally in Taipei or the cities around it. Taipei shouldn't be used to represent the entire opinions for Taiwan. It's like asking people in California about a specific topic which represent the entire US population's opinion. Californians will say one thing, but people in Nebraska would have an entirely different opinion. For a more accurate interview of the streets in Taiwan, interviewing farmland areas such as Hualien and southern cities such as Kaohsiung would have given a better perspective. Edit: grammar and added/corrected sentences In my opinion, I just want relations to improve (tho at this rate, it's extremely unlikely unless a miracle agreement is made). I'm really hoping both sides can come to a mutual agreement and do not have to resort to war. I have both friends from Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. None of them wish for a war between the two of us.

@@deaddocreallydeaddoc5244 Ignoring your clear partisan bias - you seem to have glossed over what other things the "CCP influenced stooge" said. @@GauravSharmaABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQR more independence, they have been taught that way for a long time
This interview made me realize there’s tons of CCP spies living in Taiwan
Based on this small sample, we can see that Taiwanese people in general:
- Have a clear opinion about this topic and feel free to speak their minds.
Right, as varied as they were, no one wants war
Accordingly to Chinese media outlets, they support war “ going to Taipei to enjoy the rain in the winter” remember?
The status quo can't continue indefinitely though because of the fact the media is biased towards independence, which is also the reason young people are more pro-independence because they grow up in media telling them to be so. The status quo can only last until the older generations die off, and then war is inevitable because the young people will try to declare independence.

This is a complicated issue which most people in the West don't have a clear understanding of. Nice to hear some local opinions
Seems like the local understanding is, We are apart of China and the west should mind their own business.
they dont need clear understanding as they will only hear what they want to hear and believe what they want to believe. its pretty simply

That is a variable that did not exist with the kurds or afghans.
totally agree
I feel like an understanding of the Chinese Civil War (post WWII) is a prerequisite, before fully understanding the varied divisions of perspectives shown in this vid. Great work.

Their are countries who do horrible things in peace time, but it doesn't compare to the amount of suffering that war causes.

One thing that shocked me during the interview was how easily the people of Taiwan could forget Japan’s war actions against China and Taiwan during World War II. During World War II, mainland China and Taiwan also fought together against Japan, but now they actually seek support from Japan in order to resist mainland China, which is unacceptable to most people in China.
You should learn history once again
not what happened, the Republic of China (which today we call "Taiwan") was internationally recognized as the official government of China during WW2 and the main source of resistance against Japanese occupation.
the actual physical Taiwan island was occupied by Japan for almost the entire duration of the war;
only after the Communist victory in the chinese civil war did the Chinese Nationalists escape to the island, becoming the Taiwan that we know today

@@cbeary2000 Well, people from the south and West are usually in the Green party while people from the North and East are in the Blue party ( Green= own country) ( Blue= combine to China)
However, in the past few years the Green party has been getting more and more votes so, in the end, it all depends on your own belives
That being said, the people outside of Taipei are usually not thrilled about the Chinese government if you will, Taipei is a very diverse city along with Kaohsiung ( also a very developed city that's located on the south side of Taiwan, but they have their own politics problem to solve) these cities tend to have many Chinese people or people who have relatives that are Chinese, the tours industry is also very active in these areas, so they usually support the blue party ( and corrupted governors but that's another can of worms) while people who are outside of these areas have more relations to the law and culture of Taiwan more then anything, so they usually support the green party ( this is my personal take on the situation, please to correct me if I'm wrong I'm not an expert hehe)
Most of the older generation doesn't really have a strong opinion of the Chinese government since, well, in the end, Taiwan is their home and they are satisfied as long as they continue to live in the country they love ( an old man told me that once and it always gives me so much hope just by thinking about it) Many younger generations like me takes pride for our country and our freedom, so we tend to have a stronger opinion on the Chinese government. ( unfortunately many people like me have experienced strong discrimination from Chinese people while some Taiwanese people also discriminate against Chinese people quite strongly, this is an issue that both sides should acknowledge and take action to it) ( these are usually the younger generations)
( there is a lot of stereotypes that both sides have for one another due to our differences, for example, I have met some Chinese people who think Taiwan is a very undeveloped place and have no manners whatsoever -to be fair a lot of Taiwanese people like me tend to have a dirty mouth, this is due to our culture and the nature of our own dialect language- while I have met some Taiwanese who thinks Chinese people are narcissists who only cares about themselves, we also make fun of each other accent a lot as well, but yea things are not exactly as positive as it should) ( disclaimer, I have no ill will towards Chinese people at all, I do understand where these people are coming from but I don't believe any of this a single bit) ( this is racism and it's horrendous)
Again, this all depends on how you are taught and your thinking, the stuff I said here are all either statically correct or my own experience, obviously I am biased when it comes to experience and politics, please don't try to fight me against my own belives, thank you :DD
But yea! Hopefully that answers some of the questions you may have mate!

And those who live and work in the rural areas, in poverty, also have a say. It appears it would provide some sort of balanced, I agree.

Although people in the comments fight about who’s right or wrong I value having this information to debate about in the first place. It’s companies like you who push the world forward towards understanding and unity.
Before the Sino-British Hong Kong Agreement and today's Russia Minsk Agreement, who in today's world would believe in these two evil country agreements, each country must develop its own armament and weapons, including small but intimidating projectiles.

That was why President Xi said to his government in late 2017/early 2018 that "the world is set to undergo a sea change which has not been seen in a hundred years, & China has to be prepared to deal with it." It reflects his confidence & insight into the inevitable rise of China together with Asian countries, in the face of western developed countries weakening due to their mishandling of their internal social & economic problems, & the consequential conflicts that China has to face & resolve with the West.

'Sean, the deep-blue youtuber, himself admitted in a FB post he was sought out by Asian Boss... that's not very "unbiased" of you guys'

This is such an important video to have been uploaded - great insight into Taiwan showing the people's voices which are so often ignored
Yep, because of the Chinese civil wars.
Knowing the following will help you understand the relationship between Taiwan and China:

I love that it's not a full consensus. Everyone have their own takes on it and we get answers from the different generations in Taiwan and the difference on their thoughts on it which is a good sign of a healthy democracy. It's also interesting that I have both a CN friend and a friend from TW and they don't hate each other. They talk about the things they like and get hyped over the most weird of things together. Most of the people don't want war. They just want to keep the status quo. What the Media tends to not show you that behind all the political tensions and borders, real people like me and you exist. Great Job Asian Boss! Keep up the good work
Asian Boss had to go out of their way to find the leather jacket pro-unification guy to make it appear as though opinions arent universal.

As foreigner living in Taiwan for over 5 years, i can confirm that most people (for my case is over 90%) don't want to reunite with mainland. But not necessarily means they want war. They just want to keep living just like now without intervention from mainland.
I only know one grandma who likes mainland enough for reunion. Most young people don't.
Because of the education and propagada of "de -Chinese" accelerates this situation, thus, you will see the fault line between young and older generations , as i know, elderly people accepted "Chinese" education and consciousness, .Even if many of them may be anti -Chinese, they may not be anti -"one China" ,or don't care just want anything work , now young generation accept "Western" education, cousciousness, propaganda, and government delete or alter about many history content of China&Taiwan in history textbook , also, include time isolation and relationship isolation factors with mainland, therefore, there is a deviation in consciousness.Basically, both troops come with the same purpose of liberating China from feudalism and imperialism with different ways, that i think this is still a civil war between the two troops. It is just because Taiwan can no longer win Mainland, so they will just publicize a new government, a new country and new culture to let future generations forget what the previous thing is, like a "education" weapon i think.
@@lesleyjave8036 i don't think education teach them to be anti Chinese. But i think one of the reason is China repeatedly threatens Taiwan that they will come to invade anytime soon, send military aircraft to Taiwan region countless times which I see it as unnecessary. As a foreigner myself, I'm uncomfortable with the fact that they come to threaten the area where I'm currently living in. And also they banned Taiwan from WHO and any other organizations out there.
Before coming to Taiwan i don't even know that Taiwan exists and what's their relation with China. But after seeing what is happening here I finally understand. My friend from Hong Kong also wants to move to Taiwan because the hong Kong now is not the homeland she used to know.
I personally hate war and hope China stop to threaten any country with violence. If one day they priorize discussion over abuse of power, who knows? Maybe Taiwan and China can have good partnership to boost their economy.
I really enjoy the freedom here in Taiwan so I personally hope they don't reunite. If so, i may need to immigrate to other country. Let's see what will happen in the future.

I'm no international law expert, but I think many of the interviewees are describing Taiwan's autonomy rather than independence.
If it walks talks and acts like an independent country…
What's the difference? Taiwan is independent with full autonomy.
@@beng1540 There’s a big difference, autonomy means they have their own government and make decisions for themselves. But Taiwan is not independent from China. Nowhere in their constitution states that Taiwan is a country. In both the map of People’s Republic of China and Republic of China, the map of China includes the mainland and the island Taiwan. As a Taiwanese can’t tell how much grateful if people around world know our opinions. Some of us, like me, appreciate the progress of economic and technology that mainland companies have made. Also, There are lots of nice Chinese. Though we don’t know what kinds of society benefit people more, I think every Taiwanese thinks freedom come first in our society. In 2022, I wish all individuals in the world should come together to resolve big issues, like climate changes or net-zero emissions, rather than some old cliché of sovereignty. It’s not important at all if human beings gonna extinct or these lands in Asia might be under water soon or hard to live in 100 years.

I really appreciate how this interview carried different opinions and was very impartial. Big congrats for you all. I hope you continue your impartial journalism without caring about if you get approving judgment or not in the comment section. Already many outlets are doing partial journalism, please you don't. Also huge respects to Taiwanese people for being able interrogate the media outlets of their country! From Kurdistan, Middle East...
As a foreigner me and my friends, always thought that 95% of the Taiwanese are anti to China "invasion" or anti to be called as a "province" of China, that is whye and my friends always spreading the words like "save Taiwan from China" "Taiwan is independent country" "Taiwan must have its own sovereignity"...
But now after watching this, I think we were wrong for doing those things because we all can see that most or almost the people that were interviewed are not like so very determined or aggressive to shout to the whole world that "Taiwan is Taiwan and not a part of China, that Taiwan has its own sovereignity and 95%+ of people wants taiwan to be recognize as an independent country by the whole world."
Now ,what I can say is... "Ok"
"We'll never care" "it's an internal family fight" "there are many Taiwanese who doesnt really want to be totally separated to China"...
Sorry for intervention 😅😅😅
Keep safe and happy reunion with China, soon you'll have your reunion now that the World is busy focussing in EUROPE and Middle East... We'll never believe again those foreign fake media's that people of Taiwan seeks help for defending their country or for fighting their sovereignity against China.

The one guy that said "I wouldnt judge based on people's age, but more so how they consume information and media" seems to understand both parts. The old and some of the new age. Thats how I feel living in the US.... a lot of these same issues are in our country. A lot of people who consume different types of media form their own way of thinking based on what they consume. Thats why a lot of ppl think black people are evil.....black fathers are not in their kids lives and white people are harmless......Media can be corrupt, but I think what Asian boss is doing is awesome, their getting it straight from the source....which are the people. Im so glad to be apart of this community. Its opened my eyes on a lot of different things because if I look at the media in the US....It would paint a picture that makes it seems like other Countries are our enemy and just have horrible conditions. Now that Im older.....it seems like our Country is more corrupt than others. We just paint a pretty picture over everything,.
Opinions are like surveys. They can project what you want when you only intervew one sided views. A real survey takes a cross section of the population. This is why you need to check what the people in mainland China think.
You have a very clear mind as you getting aged.
@Anuj Rblx well.. i think this question should be answered by the citizens themselves. it should not be answered by the people from another country. You have to at least live there for a few years to experience.
--The real answer to this is to ask Chinese people: Do they feel happy and cared in their country? Do people feel proud of their governments?
--My answer is yes, I'm very proud of what we've achieved in the past hudnreds, thousands of years that we've made our nation strong again. I love my culture. I understand and support how the system works here. I enjoy the life that those guns and drugs are banned here. And there're a lot to talk about but I won't be deeply talking here.
China has always been a country caring about ourselves and allies. We don't start the economy cold war. We have our principles like the "One country, two systems. Those are our lines. If anyone is trying to go over that line, it's offending us. And we will fight back.
@@cuewarstaner1894 I think the line of "one country two systems" has been crossed but the mainland is not offended because it was the NPCSC that crossed the line on 30. June 2020.
I also like how expressing your view on PROC you said there's is much to talk about but you don't want to get into where one would expect criticism.
Do you not have any criticism?
Do you have criticism but feel expressing it would be inappropriate?
You're sentence just seems like avoiding taking a stance.

@@christopherstein2024 idk what you talked about with the date you mentioned. you can be more specific.
And as for criticism, I don't feel anything wrong or uncomfortable to criticize anything. We always criticize thigns are not reasonable in my country. and it comes to a result that not everything is perfect for all countries. At least I'm totally okay with most of the laws and rules in my country. I'm proud of them. Like the 天眼 system helps decrease crimes in a huge ratio. But in western people's eyes, they will feel offensed and not free and don't get it.
In Chian we have some sayings.
--One is "要想人不知,除非己不为" meaning "what you've done will finally be figured out by other people unless you don't do it."
--Another one is "不怕亏心事,不怕鬼敲门" "Won't be afraid of ghosts knocking on your door if you don't do wrong things".
There're the very Chinese style philosophy that we care about and behave ourselves in the 1st priotiry. And most western people won't get it.
So refreshing to see such thoughtful and sophisticated answers from every side no matter age
The subtitle is not accurate enough, for example, 3:39 he said" So it is "a" China", and he meant it, it is not right to remove the "a" from the subtitle. The truth is Taiwan is just another or more accurately the original China. 5:15 he said "中共“ which should be translated to "The Communist Party of China", but in the subtile it's "Communist China" which means the country China not the party. I think its's important to make sure the subtitle is correct so the western people could really understand what Taiwanese people actually thinking.
