    The more i think about them the more the bubble fruits make sense.
    During dry phases they are protected by a hard shell that protects them from animals.
    Once the rain comes all the animals seek shelter.
    The fruit then absorbs the water and swells into a rather flexible looking orb.
    This orb could have the purpose of protecting the seed inside from the physical blunt force of the rain,
    allowing the plant to spread its seeds without being in much danger from either animals or the environment.

      They make sense as purposed organisms, too. Water is heavy, and hydrated fruits take up a lot of space, not to mention the fact that drying things makes them last longer. Bubble fruit would be very easy to gather and transport in large quantities over long distances. They wouldn't necessarily taste flavourless, either, though they'd probably have a weird texture.
      This is definitely a good explanation of how their purposed adaptations would actually allow them to survive so long in Rain World's climate, and that may even have been taken into account in their purposed design as well; after all, if you want a plant product to be available in large quantities, it's got to be capable of growing in the first place and not get munched by wildlife before you can get to it.

    In reference to the void worms and what they are, I think you're right to an extent. In the very end when you ascend yourself, you move towards a large glowing area. The view of the area is circular in shape and contains either other versions of yourself or other members of your species. In either case, perhaps this orb is in reality the basis of a worm, and once a creature ascends, it becomes said worm, the location of ascension being like an egg.

    • @trashman6829
      @trashman6829 2 роки тому +30

      @@Deadflower019 It wouldnt make sense for ascension to symbolize conception when the whole point of the game is to break the cycle of death and rebirth, especially considering part of this "rebirth" is represented with the succession system in-game (killing enough of a certain kind of fauna will spawn harder versions of that fauna in the next cycle). The slugcats appear to be closer to ghosts than sperm and the ball of light is closer to depictions of a golden sun. If this were to be a metaphor of conception, then it would be closer to the alchemical creation of a perfect being than a literal child.

    18:16, speaking of the weird devices, personally I always thought they were just oversized parts of Neuron cells, The first long arm appears to be just a long Axon with Myelin sheath and an axyon terminal at the end, which also implies that iterators move information via chemicals and I guess they are either directly feed to a receiver or picked up by a neuron fly to carry it further I dunno.
    The red arm appears to be an oversized Betz cell, in our bodies they are basically neuron cells that send movement information down our spinal cord, as for RW lore I guess they are the connection between neuron flies and some iterator spinal cord wich acts as a information highway.

    Amazing video! Also some info and theories on karma flowers (ok mostly slugcats). They are created whenever you die making me think slugcats were artificially created by iterators. They seem to be the only creatures (besides guardians) that can interact with karma in any way, and NSH just straight up makes hunter to help Moon. Also when moon is given the magenta pearl she says that slugcat is likely a descendent of a purposed creature. This makes me think they were created shortly after the rain started to clean out the pipes in filtration and drainage system. Oh and a cool thing is if you die in a hunter run after running out of cycles, if start a survivor or monk run afterwards and go to the room you died in a karma flower will be there.
    This comment probably belongs in the other video but it mentions karma flowers like twice so too bad.

    i feel like the bubblefruit could actually make a ton of sense. they could be letting themselves dessicate on the stem, becoming hard and inedible, so that creatures will not eat them before theyve had the chance to move. Then, they rehydrate when the rains come in order to sweep them away, like you suggested. Once they're popped, i think the vulnerability is intentional--they want to get eaten by creatures further away from their birthplace so that those creatures will pass the seeds in a region very far from competition from their parent plant

  • @Aleggraa
    @Aleggraa 3 роки тому +26

    Technically, Iterators should not be included in the fully-mechanical classification, since they are actually bio-mechanical. The living cells are what Five Pebbles attempted to tinker with so he could kill himself, and Moon's interruption let it spread rapidly and maliciously, becoming what is essentially cancer.
    This also ties into the nature of the soul in Rain World, something Moon mentions, though to be fair, her saying she felt "pain in her soul" could just be an expression, but I believe it isn't. The Ancients were all into the repeating cycle, and if they wanted to find a solution that would let all lesser beings ascend, the creations should also be made to feel the pain of reincarnating cycles so as to inform their work on finding a solution. While machines will die and stay dead as they have no soul, Iterators will persist even when killed, as their biological components, and perhaps their "soul," will live on.
    This also ties into Neuron Flies, which could very well count as food to the slugcat because they may have some nutritious biological component. I mean, if mushrooms don't provide nutrition but these things do, I think it's safe to assume they have some nutritious and biological component, a tie to the Ancient's beliefs, as realistically, something built to transfer information in something as big as an Iterator would be better suited being purely mechanical and not biological in any way.

  • @Milko7002
    @Milko7002 3 роки тому +28

    20:10 No way neuron flies are fully mechanical. They must be mostly organic because they provide food to sluggcat. 5P looks like bio electronic hybrid being with is probably true to the other ones too.

  • @rubberduckey111
    @rubberduckey111 3 роки тому +66

    I always thought Void Worms were largely misunderstood by the community and the characters in the world. I always saw them as carnivores that simply ate anything that fell into the void sea, similar to angler fish in the dark depths of the ocean. A lot of the void worms we see are near the area in the world where material is being melted and slipping into the void sea, meaning they're likely eating whatever is falling into the void.
    Where a lot of people interpret the ending as slug-cat being guided toward ascension, i always interpreted it as the void worm bringing the slug cat to a young void worm to be eaten, as the glow we swim toward is similar to the glow emitted by other void worms. The vision of a paradise in the light is merely a spiritual lure like that of an angler fish, and its why the survivor sees a tree with its family and why the monk sees his brother.
    Finally, i think the void worms eat more than just material, but they eat inter-dimensionally as well. It's why they are so large and why we see so many slug-cats in the end. They aren't just eating a single slug-cat, but they are eating every possible incarnation of the slug-cat, effectively ending their process of reincarnation which, for the ancients, might as well be ascension.
    The echos are probably half-eaten beings where their attachment to the world made it so many versions of them would swim away from whatever lure the void worms showed them, but the void bath messed them up.
    All of this is based more on the general themes of the game than anything else. Throughout the whole game we are effectively navigating an ecosystem where everything is eating everything else. It makes more sense for the ending to continue that theme than to abandon it for a simple "Look the big worm took you to heaven."

I personally thought they were predators as I was swimming past them, which I believe was the intention, (perhaps like the final test of faith before heaven)then the devs surprise you by showing you that the void worm means no harm. It also could potentially be that the void worms eat the raw matter of the world while guiding the living to the depths.

  • @sethbettwieser
    @sethbettwieser 2 роки тому +9

    Personally, I think the popcorn plant seeds are the little black bits we see flying off after we hit one. The reason I think this is that there's not much reason for the plant to explode if its seeds are propogated by eating what is left after the popping.
    What if the plant naturally spreads its seeds (what I think the black things are) through explosive propulsion? There's a lot of real-world plants that do so, so it's not unfounded.

    My best guess with the flash bangs- is that the bioluminescence is formed by a small controlled chemical reaction- similar to a glowstick, it would store these chemicals in large quantities within itself and react them slowly to produce light. When thrown- whatever barrier separates the chemicals is broken- causing all the plants stored chemicals to react spontaneously in a huge flash of light over a few seconds. This would explain the difference between the idle and disturbed light intensities and why the flash isn’t instantaneous.

    I'm not a chemistry student just a nerd but potassium nitrate and sugar would create the effect of the flash bang plant. this reaction is literally called sugar rocket fuel. If you and alkanes gases like methane , propane, butane or ethane you would get blue flams and Light. so all you would need to make a blue flash is water and air. It is like a planet created to fram rocket fuel or other reactive gasses.

    I would think the bubble fruit is an adaptation to the constant rain. It grows over the course of a cycle having a hard shell to prevent them from being eaten but when it rains and floods they become bouyant and float on the water to someplace else, usually ending up near a body of water that they found the currents of. That would mean that they could travel all the way from one side of the map to the other theoretically.

    suddenly having deep musings about bubble fruit.
    i JUST thought of this, but maybe bubble fruit's oddities could be explained as being a creation of the Ancients?
    if purposed organisms were regularly created then maybe foods were too, wide varieties of plants or animals that grew up well in captivity. even though the only known food source of the Ancients was 'Nectar' (and gravel i guess lol), i highly doubt that all of them would eat only one thing, no matter how superior it was in nutrients or whatever!!
    im imagining bubble fruits being traded for/purchased at some sort of market, popped ones ready to eat floating in a crystal clear pool of water, while younger plants grow in the background.................
    or, like, y'know those spongy products for kids that grow into animals when exposed to water? idk reminds me of that too. bubble fruit are fun to pop and could totally be sold to kids.
    like slugcats likely descended from purposed organisms designed to clean pipes, fast-growing bubble fruits may have survived the disappearance of their caretakers simply because of their fast reproduction, and hardy roots that produce multiple fruits over one life cycle. and like the coconut example, the fruits slowly spread from being able to float through floods. or perhaps like the hcs about popcorn plants, enough of the bubble fruit seed remains in its consumers' digestive system to be transported and eventually take root when deposited elsewhere.
    maybe even a popped bubble fruit shell grows better than the protected seed! exposed, it could better soak up nutrients... don't people who grow plants injure the seeds a little to help them grow or am i making that up?
    whatever whatever i need to go to bed musings over peace o/

    To further connect the Void Worms to the Ancients, the Worms' heads appear to be quite similar to those of the Iterators. It is reasonable to presume that the Iterators' puppets' unique body shape was based on that of the Ancients, therefore, the connection of the head would be an easy visual metaphor for communicating that to the player.

    Y'know... Bubblefruit and corn pods kind of have a lot in common! They both pop when exposed to the elements. While conceptually similar to chia seeds, which make congealed water bubbles around themselves when wet, chia seeds definitely don't explode like bubblefruits do. Bubblefruits pop in contact with water and corn pods pop in contact with air, their seeds are tough and highly pressurized which become compromised in certain environmental conditions. The kernels of both are very small and probably still tough, which, as this video says, allows them to pass through the fruits' consumers unharmed (if bubblefruits are only supposed to pop when it rains, why do they only grow around water sources? Multiple methods of transmission is advantageous) Kiwis, cherries, and pomegranates are real examples of this, avoiding swallowing the seeds is not rewarding.
    Wheel flowers are fascinating to me as a symbol. I know that a lot of art portrays them as having 5 petals, but the in-game model seems to show 4. That probably means that not only is the max karma symbol a 2d representation of a wheel flower, but also that the process of getting to max karma goes through the flower's various stages of bloom! When you're maxed on karma, anyways. Dunno about the lower karmas you get from echoes. They're awfully strange looking for a flower; easily eaten, transparent, golden and luminescent... Perhaps they aren't flowers at all, and the lesser karma symbols are showing its life-death cycles until the final stage at X. Unrelated, but I like how it's implied that scavengers value wheel flowers for the same reason as mushrooms. Heh!
    Pole plants are like... a dry sundew plant... I guess. Like if a sundew plant and a venus fly trap got combined, it'd make something like a pole plant. I doubt that they, monster kelp, or monster grass have stomachs underground. Instead I figure that they keep rotting bodies buried among their roots to leech the nutrients out over time. It's not like there are any plants in real life that bring their prey underground though, so you still might be right. Carnivory in plants appears when vital nutrients are lacking in the environment, which forces them to rely on either their own self-made digestive enzymes, or fungus/bacteria. When there isn't enough food, you either get smaller, or eat bigger. Red monster grass may not be a sign that the ground naturally has many nutrients... Instead their difference is indicative of being highly successful. Vultures, scavengers, centipedes, lizards, tripped rain deer - Farm Arrays has a LOT of big prey items at the surfaces exposed to open sky. Outskirts, less ruined parts of Farm Arrays, and other places pretty much just have lizards and maybe the occasional noodlefly.
    I wonder if guardians are powered by void fluid, which given their position would make it so they can run literally until Rain World's planet is destroyed.
    I adore this topic, and the way you cover it is entertaining. It might be a bit boring, but are you interested in making a video covering background elements in rain world? The tiny bugs and fish (?) that you can't do anything to, trees and ferns seen in farm arrays and sky islands, how about those weird coral things that seem like they can grow absolutely anywhere just with differing colors? The hanging SLIME that covers every ceiling somehow. Discerning the purposes of some Ancient machinery, I dunno. If you went full on 'little archaeologist' I would absolutely watch it.

    In reference to the karma flower, I have a personal theory about the things moon said about them, it's my belief that when a slugcat dies it's semi canonical as the slugcat can remember where it died and the areas around it, I believe these are "visions" or alternate world copies of the slugcat in question, the karma flower strengthens the connection and basically gives you a buffer against death mechanically that could represent the slugcat reviving a warning of some sort

Don't get me wrong, Sulfur is a nasty chemical, but it doesn't really explode like that, at least to my knowledge. Another option would be Phosphorus compounds, which are known for burning at room temperature, but those don't really expand, they just kinda poof.

    On one of your other vids i wholeheartedly agree with your scorn at the shiddy pronouncement of "artificer" but if you're gonna roll like that we have to be fair across the board and call out your way of saying "Iterator". Its an IT-er-ray-tor, not an EYE-ter-ray-tor. An iterator is something that makes iterations [IT-er-ray-shunz] of things, which for those not knowing are versions, updates, mods and/or improvements of things they or something else has already built. I live your vids n have just subbed, but just as "artificer" got stuck in your craw, "Iterator" got stuck in mine. Now that I've got that case of "that fkn guy" outta my system, I'll say that I've really enjoyed your vids. While what moon describes from the white pearl does sound like a garbage worm I think there’s a better candidate.
    Yes garbage worms have a long tubular body but she also says.
    “Long tubular body and single eye-mouth” eye-mouth huh?
    This reminds me a lot more of the worm grass. Much more tubular creatures that have what looks like one single eye that it also uses to grab onto you like a mouth.
    Perhaps the worm grass are these automatas descendants. It feels more likely than the two eyed slender garbage worms.
