The reason you sometimes die on the grid phase is because the hitbox has to hit your head (slugcat doesn’t seem to have a neck so your head is basically your face).
I saw some cool rain world fan art that speculates that pole plants, monster kelp, and worm grass are large worms, aptly named trunk worms. The beehive is speculated to be where the spore puffs come from with the hive being called a sporecone. I also saw Reddit fan art of the vulture not being a bird but instead an evolved relative of rain world snails.
a trick to make phase 5 easier is that you can actually move in a straight horizontal line back and forth near the middle of the screen due to how the pattern is. This makes it much easier. There is also a practice mod on the workshop for skipping phases which helps a ton for phase 5. Sorbet cafe's dance pad video is where I first learned of it. (I made a video too as I haven't seen a video of both the cheese for phase 5 and 6 together)
5:55 the hitbox is Saint's head. Your entire body could be in the circle as long as their head stays out of it. Also, when you beat this challenge, it motivated to try it again. I finally beat it later that night
Phase 4 is a bitch, but staying at the distortion shield kinda helped me avoid a laser I feared being near tbh. Phase 5 got me wanting to die because of the way the circles "move", simply teleporting 1cm every 0.25 seconds, making me burn the ascension tickets when not dying because a ball of death teleported into my stomach because of bad timing. Phase 6 is surprisingly easy
Yeah I died 17 times to phase 6 before beating it. phase 5 is relatively easy, you don't even need the ascension power if you use saints tongue well. the circles moves in an infinity pattern, just gotta start moving before the circle does. phase 4 is a bitch, but at the end I could beat it consistently by spamming the ascension button and moving in a square pattern between SoS and the walls. phase 6 is RNG, sometimes the lasers trap you and you can't do anything about it.
I'm not ashamed to say, I used a mod for infinite god mode to beat this. It's a shame cuz the could have just kept that one challenge in rubicon as the final and I think it would have felt appropriate. I actually enjoyed that one (played without the cheaty mod)
I remember when I finally beat silver a few months ago, I'd say it was a legendary comeback, I was really nervous because I beat phase 5 which is (the hardest imo) and I didn't know if was better to do phase 6 using the karma ability or not, I decided to do with the ability, but then I ran out of energy, I was so devastated I got in the center with my tongue and no hope but I still tried to survive and by some fucking reason I just locked in and managed to dodge all the lasers and shit, there was one time that the laser balls were one pixel from my character, then I did it I recovered my energy and put sliver to her grave.
I didn't even bothered beat it legitimately after learning what you have to go through. I was so done with rain world challenges, most of them are not fun and super frustrating. I really wanted to unlock developer commentary tokens

I can't believe I've never seen anyone mention the Super tongue mechanic. Basically, when you tongue, your tongue goes out a certain distance and comes back. Normally, it doesn't matter if this hits something. HOWEVER, if you hit something (either a wall or sliver herself) with the very end of the tongue's range, you will be pulled about 5x more than normal. This makes doing this challenge with mainly the tongue ABSOLUTELY AWFUL, as its so inconsistent with zero G that its practically RNG. So, yet another reason why this challenge is completely impossible without rebind everything Also, you can totally beat phase 3 with only tongue but you have to be perfect and lucky

I find the idea this challenge proposes that Sliver could use the same ascending ability as Saint to be kind of funny At the end of the day though stuff like that, being able to withstand being ascended, etc. is probably why the devs have announced it strictly noncanon lol

spoilers I think I know why the hit boxes are wonky, it's SOS (Sliver of straw) them self, that weird effect around them is distorting the player and the grid, but not the hitbox, so the hitbox isn't wonky by itself, but SOS (Sliver of straw) is making it seem wonky. But hey, *that's just a theory* *A GAME THEORY!*
For phase 2, it only kills you if the slugcats head is inside the ring, the body doesn't matter, so that's why it seems like rng whether you die.
