This is the video that I FINALLY was able to sleep for the first time (which was tonight) 🙏🏾 without tossing and turning and waking up with pain. My surgery was on 3/22. The key for me was the explanation of *elbow* and hand placement. THANK YOU
I owe you great thanks. I have had frozen shoulder and biceps tendonitis. While a steroid shot helped, no amount of supposedly therapeutic exercises could cure it, & my sleep was constantly disrupted by pain. When I started sleeping with a pillow under my elbow and placing my arm across my belly as you'd suggested, I saw improvement right away. Today I cant' believe how much less pain I have; my arm and shoulder are just short of "normal".
Thank you!! I may have a right rotator cuff injury and I haven’t been able to sleep. This is what I needed!! I really appreciate you taking the time and sharing your expertise in this video!!
I'm Robin. I'm 73. I'm an active, keen pilot, authorised aircraft builder/repairer and a committed scuba diver too. I've had 2 previous major rotator cuff/biceps/tendon repairs/rebuilds over the last 7 years after an unfortunate work accident. This time I'm 7 days into recovery after a total reverse shoulder replacement. I need all the strategies I can hear to get a good night's sleep. Thank you for your big-hearted help Tim.
Thank you so much! My shoulder is injured and it gets worse every time I wake up because I don’t have any support when I sleep. This is absolutely helpful!
I bought a narrow futon...works perfectly... I can raise and lower my head and it is narrow enough to where I am sort of restricted from rolling on my stomach or side. I am a former U.S. Army Combat Medic. I advanced into the operating room assisting surgeons. I was scrubbed in on many ortho operations in civilian hospitals after I left the Army. I witnessed rotator cuff surgery and it can be extremely painful. A few months ago I took a severe fall on some ice...I was going to land on my back but I didn't want my head to crash onto the ice. In preventing that I landed on my right shoulder blade. No pain for about 2 days...then everything fell apart...my arm is about 50% functional...and I have trouble sleeping...lifting and basically anything that makes me use my right arm. I knew what it was after the pain set in. I went to a orthopedic surgeon and had a MRI done. Not only was my right should rotator cuff was damaged, but I also severed a bicep muscle...I now have a operation scheduled. So I went out and bought a futon just so I can lay in during the day if I need to and it will now be used as my new bed. I know this is going to be a long road to recovery...but I survived 6 years in a combat zone and I will survive this as well...preparing yourself for post surgery life is as important as the operation.
Thank you so much for the video after your sling is removed. I was in a sling after rotator cuff surgery for 6 weeks. Now, I’m a bit nervous. This video was extremely helpful. Praying it works for me tonight since I still have pain.
Thank you so much for the video, i have dislocated my left shoulder. However, dont want to go for surgery as i queried the doctor once the surgery is done will dislocation reoccur he was fumbling, so its better i will use the left shoulder much lesser and try with physiotherapist.
going to try the first setup, im about a week and a half into Gr1 shoulder separation injury. Sleeping has been a nightmare so i pray this works for me
Thank you so much! I finally got my first full nights sleep last night, the issue was definitely the internally rotated position the sling was forcing me into. Slept without the sling and everything!
These videos are very helpful. I had a rotator cuff tear and tenodesis performed and my surgeon took a conservative route and had me in the sling for 6 weeks without any PT. The only thing I was allowed to do during that time were elbow bends and pendulum swings 2-3 times a day. That said, I was released from the sling this week, week 6, and I would like to know what would be a good starting point at 6 weeks without any prior stretching or PT? I feel that some of the recommended exercises at 6 weeks are not something I should be doing without some prior stretching. Any help is appreciated.
I’m having rotator cuff surgery second week January 2024, I’m worried 😢 I’m a side sleeper. What kind of cold therapy you recommend after surgery?, so many options out there, should I get one of those cold therapy machines? Or an ice compress that you put in the freezer is enough?
Finally a justification for the 5 pillows in my bed! I have wide hips so for side sleeping, I add a small airplane size pillow under my lower ribs to prevent spine curving downward. Is this doing my QLs any good or do you recommend against the extra side sleep rib support?
I am 5 weeks out from rotator cuff surgery and I have had the best sleep of my life in a recliner! I still have to wear the sling for another night, then I will try going back to the bed. Hopefully, the pillow tricks work because they didn't help when I was wearing the sling.
I broke the surgical neck of the humerus. I have 2 bulging disks in my neck. Sleeping is really painful. I can’t get comfortable and I’m a side sleeper . Would an electric bed be helpful to elevate myself?
Thanks. My shoulder pops, like you'd pop a finger, when I roll over onto it while sleeping. It feels good but it worries me bc now I'm experiencing soreness, all of this originating from frozen shoulder. Last night I'm thinking I need to keep it neutral while i sleep.
7-1-20 So grateful for this. Both of my rotator cuffs are torn and I get the first shoulder fixed in two weeks. Am preparing myself for this process and watching your own Rehab series has been really helpful. I maybe shouldn’t have watched the surgery video (how scarred will my shoulders be when wearing a sundress now??), but I’m gonna remain calm. At least KNOWING the first two weeks will suck is reassuring, and seeing you move out of the sling by 10 days is encouraging. I’ve saved this rehab series to my Workout playlist and will look at them often. Thank you for making this.
Physio Fitness | Physio REHAB | Tim Keeley The first four days are horrible but if you acknowledge and accept that going in, anyone can gut out four days. My surgeon talked me out of surgery and instead to heal naturally and aggressive rehab. I hope you are well. Get opinions from experts on any surgery. Just had an anterior dislocation. Went from super active and doing calisthenics in the gym to now having it in a sling. Any tips for the journey? Very sad times
I had a 3 level cervical fusion Sept 18 & would this work on me? I love sleeping on my side but bc my c spine is so damaged it's rare I get to sleep like that. I also lose circulation in both arms if they're elevated even just a little. I sleep on my back too but still issues especially if my arms are elevated just a little. After this surgery, I've been having awful shoulder pain, they said that's normal given the type of surgery I had & which levels were done. Can you offer any advice for me? If I didn't lose circulation, this would be perfect for me. Thank you

I'm about to have shoulder surgery in a couple of weeks. What advice would you give a side-sleeper on how to deal with the sling? My couch is really uncomfortable, and I have nightmares when I sleep on my back. Is side-sleeping with the sling even possible?
Larry Wilson not really. I am a side sleeper too and usually sleep on the non surgical side. But I simply couldn’t do it for the first 2 weeks.
