  • Ripped the exhaust apart when attempting to put the car on a car hauler. Thought about welding in a new piece, but needed to get the car running so I ordered a new down pipe on eBay.

How did you remove the down pipe/ get access to the bolts. Did you have to drop the subframe? Could you tell me step by step how you did it please as I have the same model?

Well, removing the down pipe was easy for me since the flex tube on it was totally broken all the way. I just had to undo the rubber holders and pull the exhaust out.
Then I was able to get wrenches up there to undo the flange bolts.
Putting the down pipe back in is where the problem came in. The flange when attached to the pipe was too large to fit in between the subframe and the body. I did have to loosen the 4 subframe bolts. I didn't remember the amount I had to loosen them. The problem is that they are torque to yield. That means you are supposed to replace them. I replaced them in the transmission replacement videos and did not yield them. So I just reused them this time.
Putting the nuts back on was just a matter of using an extension and a wobbly socket adapter.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

@builditgarage did you undo the 4 21mm bolts as I'm currently trying to get mine out as it's snapped just below the flexi and I can't even get the flange out but 2 of my 21mm bolts are siezed solid/rounded

Did you get the six speed to work?

I haven't taken apart the shift lever yet so I don't have an answer to that. I can take a look tomorrow and reply back.

Looks like I have to jack the car up, take out the drive line and remove the shifter box from below in order to see what is in it stopping it from going into 6th. I don't have time for that right now. Sorry.
