I was 10 years old in 1977. My brother was 11 years older and still lived at home. He was tasked with babysitting on Sunday nights when my parents went bowling. Some nights he sat in his room, watched Monty Python, shut his door (since it wasn't appropriate for children), and ignored me and my sister. But other nights, he would bring out his records. I HATED rock music when I was really little. I would yell at my brother to change the channel when he had control of the radio in the car. Then one day, maybe aged 5 or so, KC and the Sunshine Band came on with "That's the Way", and I loved it. The first artists I remember liking were the Jackson Five and Stevie Wonder. Well, on Sunday nights, when my brother brought his records out, I was introduced to Earth, Wind, & Fire (my brother's favorite band), The Who (who I hate to this day), Fleetwood Mac, and other songs of the era. We'd let the sun go down and not turn on the lights and just sit and listen. I learned to really LISTEN at a young age. And he never mocked me if I didn't like something. I think this true, not only subjectively, but objectively. I am in my late 50s. Two years ago, I set myself on a quest to start digging into new music - new as in recent, and just new to me, regardless of when it was released. I would do a bunch of searching on Spotify, add it to a "New Music" playlist. I would spend at least 20 minutes per night, 5 days a week listening. If I really hated it, would skip right away, so I got through a lot. I did this for 1 1/2 YEARS. I would give stuff that I didn't love, but didn't hate a chance. I really like metal, but I generally despise the growling. (Some is done well, most is crap.) So, that eliminated a huge chunk of any metal from the last 15 years. Growling is fine if it is from the heart, but just growling the entire song in a monotonous way is lazy, and that's what most of it is. And my conclusion is that most new music is crap. Then again, most music in the 70s and 80s and 90s were also crap, but still. There is absolutely NOTHING that has caught my attention like this older music. Probably the most recent music I really love is Mudvayne, but it's from the 2000s, I believe. There are a couple of newer prog metal bands I do like, but don't love - -Tesseract and Karnivool. There is a UA-camr Rick Beato - an actual professional music producer - who has done a lot of videos talking about newer music. He's done actual analysis about how there are far fewer key changes in songs these days, and the like. I think, personally, that we're all so isolated and not encouraged to be active - for decades now. We're educated and trained to be consumers, not producers, so there is a great lack of creativity. And kids grow up without siblings and older cousins to just mess around with - it's all about the external image in school and online, which stifles individuality and creativity. And the music industry has changed. How would a creative band like Tool make it big these days? I don't even know.
I played this album into the ground when I bought it in ‘76 I was 12 saved up my allowance and grass cutting profits to buy this, 48 yrs later I’m STILL playing it, great album …….. great band.
I have never cared much for reaction videos 😡 until I stumbled across your channel Mollyboy, your love and appreciation for the music is obvious, keep the vids coming and welcome to the 70's
Those spaceships on the album are guitars face down with the necks pointing away from sight. Basically the butt end or bottom of the guitar is shown facing down. I've seen that art for decades and only last year realized they aren't spaceships.
Same here. I think a damn 20 year old reactor saw it instantly and I was floored. But I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume I was high most of the time while staring at the cover with the record spinning. 🤣🤣 I'll make no assumptions for your excuse. 😎
It isn't the best selling debut anymore. Hootie and the Blowfish and guns and Roses overtook them. Now there are several others but this is the greatest rock albums of all time and they didn't shoot videos which at that time sold lots of albums for bands. They didn't need to!!!!
@@Mark-fk3ei Wow thanks for the "updated" info - it's a shame because they imo, are better than both of the other two that you mentioned. Boston surely was something special when they came on the scene! Glad I got to witness such great music 70s/80's

Don't try to figure it out...just ride it! An entire generation would listen on a hi-fi stereo in their room with a black light and black light posters on the walls. Lol, I could tell you weren't too sure about the acoustic breaks. I was like..... wait for it. The look on your face, as always, was priceless. I always enjoy your genuine reactions bro.
I’m a 60 year old male who at that time this song was so much more than just a song. We didn’t have internet, Social media, cell phones, podcasters, influencers and what nowadays have become on the top of this generations focus. Driving down a Summer night in a ‘79 Thunderbird with a Pioneer 8 track player and tri-ax Jensen speakers with a 4 channel Kenwood amplifier just super loud. The windows down and the air hitting our hair as we drive down the popular hangout streets. When the transition from Foreplay to Longtime hit we got goosebumps from head to toe. I was finally able to buy a cassette tape of it to be able to rewind it to listen to it again and again. Something today’s generation will never get to experience is the simpler times that don’t rely on technology and internet to be totally connected and entertained. We interacted with each other and this music was our main way to connect. This music will never die!!
Boston was the first band I ever saw in concert. It was the fall of 1978 and three college buddies and I drove 70 miles to see them. Sammy Hagar (known as "The Red Rocker" at the time) warmed up for them. Then there was a brief intermission as they changed out the stage and then Boston opened with "Rock And Roll Band" which is a story about the band's history. It was a great concert. In addition to that song, "Smokin'" is also a must.
Recorded in Tom Shultz basement in early 70s. Dude worked for IBM or some big tech company but wanted to be a rock star, thank God. RIP Brad Delp, one of the greatest front men of any band.
They played the shit out this song on every rock station for more than a decade. It startling for you to hear so many instruments and voices because modern stuff, for the most part, is ALL synth with some vocals. Old music was hard work and expensive to record but absolutely brilliant.
Greatest debut album ever. Not one bad song on it. Back then nearly everyone knew every single word and note to every single song. I sure did. I’ve listened to the entire album literally thousands of times. Hitch a Ride is my favorite, if I had to pick one. ❤🤘🏼🤘🏼
Thank you, Young Mollyboy. Hopefully one day when you're 66 years young, you'll get to experience a young man rocking out to some of the best music of all time, your favorite music.
I enjoyed your reaction to this. Boston, REO Speedwagon,Styx and Led Zepplin are just a few bands that are still quite popular in the U.S and played alot on Classic Rock & Roll stations. After growing up with this music I just don't get todays style of music. ❤Stay safe
This is the first record album I ever bought. I vividly recall blasting it at the US bicentennial 4th of July, 1976. Peace of Mind changed my life. Lived it the rest of my life
This whole album rocked- wore my cassette out when I was a teenager. The radio usually only played “Longtime”, but if we were lucky, they played the “Foreplay” part with it.
so MollyBoyTV, PURE FIRE, I saw them live on their comeback Third Stage Tour, 1986, night 3 of 9 nights in Worcester, Mass- hands down the greatest live rock show i ever saw, 3 straight hours the entire 9000 crowd stood and screamed alobg, super genius guitar wizard Tom Scholz had a broken leg with full cast hip to foot, but just killed it- and he created/invented all the equipment, MIT grad engineer- played all the instruments, wrote and produced their debut album- IN HIS BASEMENT! dubbed in Bradley Delps great vocals...check out Cant Ya Say for a great vocal and musical track by them, peace
That whole album is 3 people. Brad delp doing *all* the vocals, harmonizing with himself. A drummer, and Tom scholz playing everything else as well as producing and engineering. *in his frigging basement* on equipment he Frankensteined together from that was old in the early 1970s.
My FIRST favorite band of all time!!! Boston, RUSH, Van Halen, Pink Floyd, etc. Formed what would be my ever growing journey of this thing we call ROCK & ROLL!!!
One of the group, Schultz I think, invented a suite of recording technologies after graduating MIT. He mixed this on his own basement to try to sell the gear, but the recording company was more interested in the music he created. Voila! Boston was born.
Every single song on this album is a banger and got radio airplay back in the day. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of them. Single best album in rock and roll, IMO.
Oooo man. Boston is a rabbit-hole you will thoroughly enjoy.....and this was ALL before Van Halen hit the scene. The 70’s were an incredible time for awesome bands and guitar heroes. Only 3 albums by them.....the first in ‘76 and the third in ‘86 (if I remember correctly). The debut album (this one) is solid from the first note played until the last note fades out. The band put that small pause in between the “Foreplay” and the “Long Time” because they didn’t think radio stations would play the intro. The public spoke out, the stations listened and the song was played in full for the rest of eternity.
Fun reaction. This first album by Boston is considered to be one of the greatest debut albums in Rock music. I know this is the second one you reacted to, but you could still kind of go through what's left on the album in order. But either way, you owe it to yourself to hear every song on this album ultimately. Boston has a very distinct and recognizable sound, but then again they have such variety in their songs, which all just kick ass in their own way. Good ear catching that organ pattern once it transitioned from Foreplay into Long Time. All the layers in this are fantastic, and Fran on the bass is just a monster. Just listen for that sometime. Long Time was on the radio all the time when I was in junior high and I had my first girlfriend. We had the 8-track cassette so we could play it in her car as we were driving around or hanging out at the park or whatever. Great memories. And the FM stations would often play the two of them together. But you definitely heard just this part of it a bunch.😮
When I bought this with my allowance in 1976, I was 11, I had no idea what I was going to hear, but from the moment the needle hit, the fade in with More Than A Feeling to Let Me Take You Home Tonight my mouth never closed! What I had listened to before was very tame, but was changed dramatically with this phenomenal debut! I hope you react to the whole album! I would give this 5 stars and Don't Look Back 4.5 stars! I think Don't Look Back is a great album, and you react to that as well! The first 5 albums in my collection started in 1970 with Chicago 2, Spyro Gyra with Catching The Sun, Little River Band with Sleeper Catcher, Boston's Debut, and Kansas Leftoverture!
One of the greatest guitar solos from one of the greatest songs from one of the greatest debut albums and one of the greatest cover rock albums of all times. Tom Scholz is a genius.
The look on your face is priceless. And it makes me smile when you enjoy the unexpected hand claps. Your entire reaction makes me smile MollyBoy, and I’m loving how you been mixing things up while staying true to your passion. Keep it up! 💜
Keyboards? Keyboards? Time for you to jump down the EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER rabbithole. Keith Emerson (RIP) was unmatched on all types of keys...piano, organs, synths...you name it, he set the standard. Another great keyboardist/keyboard fronted band from classic rock days of the 60's-70's is THE BRIAN AUGER TRINITY feat. Julie Driscoll on vocals.
I saw Boston in concert with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts in 2018. They have a different singer. The concert was excellent. Such a nostalgia trip for me.
Hard to believe that ONE guy played all the instruments & did all the mixing, brought in Brad Delp to do the vocals, simply incredible. The BEST debut album EVER imo!❤
The story as I heard it: Some buddies attending MIT together decided they could produce music better on their own than a professional studio could. So they made their own studio in a basement and started recording on the equipment they created. This was the album they made. I love the revival of a mechanical organ being used. Pretty sure that electric guitar being used inspired the word “rad” commonly used in the 80’s.
One of the best debut albums. EVER. Suggest going through the entire album. No bad songs.

You can react to this entire album and there will not be a negative comment .. "Something About You" is a personal favorite
"Hitch a Ride" has one of the greatest, lengthiest guitar solos you'll ever hear, period.
And some ELO covers are spaceships too
They also have domed cities on top. The one in the foreground is Boston. The others are likely Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles.
They're guitars . . . and spaceships.
Omg, I see it! I never knew this, thank you!
The greatness of the 70’s rock will never be duplicated again!
His face!!! I just love watching his facial expressions 😅 This remains the best selling debut album in history! What a distinction!
@luckylisa5496 unfortunately Tom chose not to make music videos which didn't help in the marketing of the band. Another tidbit, before they went out on the greatest hits tour they were supposed to do a photoshoot. Tom canceled 3 times before he actually did it. He doesn't like being recognized in public.
Kid, we had some music!❤ Real writers. Real musicians. Real artists. Enjoy your 60s, 70’s 80’s ride. It was an incredible 30 year ride.
Don't try to figure it out...just ride it! An entire generation would listen on a hi-fi stereo in their room with a black light and black light posters on the walls. And the album played over and over again. One of the best debut albums of all time! Also, when we were old enough to drive we played it over and over again! Boston always ROCKS! Music was everything and everywhere back then ❤️
But you forgot one thing. The fog in the room. It would be cig or weed smoke. 🙂
"So many different things happening..." Wait until we get you to listen to Yes' "Close to the Edge". Your head will literally explode! But we'll go easy on you and warm you up with "Roundabout" first. Thanks for listening and sharing.
Peace from SF
THE best ever debut album......brilliant......best ever gig....London,Hammersmith Odeon........giant church organ.....smoke coming out of it.......Tom Shultz walks through the haze and comes in with that first solo......brilliant.
Scholz...
Scholz!
@@mr.knowitall6440 can't make this up -- _mr.knowitall_ 'corrects' the spelling with the wrong spelling lol
Mi speeling as all wees bean sheet.....soo boolacks two yoo
More Than A Feeling is more famous, and it's amazing... but THIS is Boston's true masterpiece.
Lol, I could tell you weren't too sure about the acoustic breaks. I was like..... wait for it. The look on your face, as always, was priceless. I always enjoy your genuine reactions bro.
I’m a 60 year old male who at that time this song was so much more than just a song.
We didn’t have internet,
Social media, cell phones, podcasters, influencers and what nowadays have become on the top of this generations focus.
I saw them in Madison Square Garden. It was absolutely fantastic. 1980 I think.
I was in 7th grade. My 1st concert. Me & 2 friends went. It was their 1st tour. Journey(pre-Steve Perry) & Nils Loftgren opened. Good times.
I saw them with Sammy during that tour as well. What a treat to see them back then.
Just a phenomenal song and album! I am 65 and this is the album (8-track) that played in my 68 Mustang all the time!
69 Chevel Malibu SS for me
This is one of those songs a DJ would put on so he could go outside for a "Smoke".
This album is pure GENIUS!!!!🎵🎼🎶🎙🥁🎧🎸🎤🎹🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
This song plays everyday all day somewhere in the US ever since it came out. Every song on this album is great no lie. 💙💙💙
Recorded in Tom Shultz basement in early 70s. Dude worked for IBM or some big tech company but wanted to be a rock star, thank God. RIP Brad Delp, one of the greatest front men of any band.
This whole album is a banger, not one bad song. It was the number one debut album, forever.
They played the shit out this song on every rock station for more than a decade. It startling for you to hear so many instruments and voices because modern stuff, for the most part, is ALL synth with some vocals. Old music was hard work and expensive to record but absolutely brilliant.
The best summer road trip album ever!
First 2 tracks off their debut. This is literally how they introduced themselves to the world.
I work construction for a living, and the two main staples that keep me and my crew going each day.. coffee from Dunkin' and music from Boston!!
I enjoyed your reaction to this. Boston, REO Speedwagon,Styx and Led Zepplin are just a few bands that are still quite popular in the U.S and played alot on Classic Rock & Roll stations. After growing up with this music I just don't get todays style of music. ❤Stay safe
I'm jealous. I wish I could hear that song again for the first time. That whole album is awesome.
I always felt like this song and the album art went together perfectly, because listening to it is like taking a journey through time and space.
This is the first record album I ever bought. I vividly recall blasting it at the US bicentennial 4th of July, 1976.
Peace of Mind changed my life. Lived it the rest of my life
Every kid growing up in the 70's and 80's in Massachusetts had this album.
One of the most underrated guitarist and engineers of guitar effects, looper effects and distortion effects. Way ahead of its time.
Yes it was.missed by many..Love it still 70!!!!!!😂❤
This whole album rocked- wore my cassette out when I was a teenager. The radio usually only played “Longtime”, but if we were lucky, they played the “Foreplay” part with it.
Wore out the cassette of this album in my car. GREAT driving music! Play this on your way to work…..as good as a cup of coffee. 😁🤘
so MollyBoyTV, PURE FIRE, I saw them live on their comeback Third Stage Tour, 1986, night 3 of 9 nights in Worcester, Mass- hands down the greatest live rock show i ever saw, 3 straight hours the entire 9000 crowd stood and screamed alobg, super genius guitar wizard Tom Scholz had a broken leg with full cast hip to foot, but just killed it- and he created/invented all the equipment, MIT grad engineer- played all the instruments, wrote and produced their debut album- IN HIS BASEMENT! dubbed in Bradley Delps great vocals...check out Cant Ya Say for a great vocal and musical track by them, peace
If I could only listen to one band for the rest of my life it would be Boston! Keep going down that rabbit hole!!!
You know, if you told me I could only take one album to a desert island, I could probably be happy with this one.
That whole album is 3 people. Brad delp doing *all* the vocals, harmonizing with himself. A drummer, and Tom scholz playing everything else as well as producing and engineering. *in his frigging basement* on equipment he Frankensteined together from that was old in the early 1970s.
They formed the band *after* the record was recorded, because they needed more people to play it live
My dad had this on 8track and I would listen to it in his shagged out van when I was like 5. I’m 50 now so lol great memories
My FIRST favorite band of all time!!! Boston, RUSH, Van Halen, Pink Floyd, etc. Formed what would be my ever growing journey of this thing we call ROCK & ROLL!!!
The entire debut album any song is great
Best selling album debut. Brad Delp could sing anything. Tom is a pure genius.
Rock and Roll Band and Let Me Take You Home Tonight are also incredible!
OH...and in the late 70's I blew out 2 sets of speakers in my car cranking this up to the max.
One of the group, Schultz I think, invented a suite of recording technologies after graduating MIT. He mixed this on his own basement to try to sell the gear, but the recording company was more interested in the music he created. Voila! Boston was born.
But unbeknownst to the record company, the entire album was done in Tom’s basement. They “pretended” to re-record the album in the studio. 😂
Guitarist Tom Scholz, guy is freaking brilliant
Every single song on this album is a banger and got radio airplay back in the day. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of them. Single best album in rock and roll, IMO.
My personal Boston favorite is Smokin' because it has one of the most epic organ solos you will ever hear!!
This is one of the best examples of musical layers… and the harmonies! Bloody hell
They put so much work into their albums compared to today to make them sound like this and listening to this reminds me that they were the best at it
Every song on this album is gold.
Love that the younger generation is appreciating the songs I listened to as a teenager- and liking it ❤
Fun reaction.
Boston was a top band of the 70s and 80s. Every song is a production like this
It was a huge radio hit. The entire Album blew everyone away.
The music, the talent, the LP covers, the drums, the guitars, the guys, the hair, all way better back then!!
The look on your face is priceless. And it makes me smile when you enjoy the unexpected hand claps. Your entire reaction makes me smile MollyBoy, and I’m loving how you been mixing things up while staying true to your passion. Keep it up! 💜
Never heard that one before. The album is definitely going on my playlist tomorrow.
Welcome to the Boston rabbit hole. Enjoy your stay.
Just think our generation got to see these bands in concert. Whole different atmosphere. ❤️🇺🇸
Best debut album ever. Not one bad cut. Smokin' is a true rock banger. Give it a listen
Keyboards?
The story as I heard it:
Some buddies attending MIT together decided they could produce music better on their own than a professional studio could. So they made their own studio in a basement and started recording on the equipment they created. This was the album they made. I love the revival of a mechanical organ being used. Pretty sure that electric guitar being used inspired the word “rad” commonly used in the 80’s.
It amazes me how you can hear all the instruments separately first time out, it’s a gift.
Well well well it’s about time. Bro ya gotta do this WHOLE ALBUM!
