I really enjoyed your interview with Dr Chaffee thank you. I'm Carnivore, and tend to look for unflavored electrolytes is it something you would consider selling or do you recommend any unflavored options? I really try to avoid sweet/fruity tastes as I find this can trigger me a little.
Regarding electrolytes,I am a ballet teacher and have been eating carnivore for 2.5 months now. In my past trys at keto and carnivore my muscles became so fatigued it was hard to teach or go up stairs and I would give up. This time around I learned about supplementing electrolytes. The powders are pricy so I researched and am using, per day, about 1000mg elemental potassium from potassium chloride, 6g Redmonds salt, and 325mg magnesium citrate in the form of the Calm magnesium supplement. I'm still having muscle fatigue (not every day) and it's really frustrating. My general strength has increased and flexibility is increasing along with a much needed 25lb weight loss (15lbs to go). I feel like I'm missing a piece of the puzzle and would love your thoughts on the matter. Thank you!
For the potassium, I find 50/50 NaCl and KCl helps. It’s about 1:1, slightly more potassium than sodium, and it’s a very easy potassium source to find (Morton sells it under the trade name Lite Salt in every supermarket here in the states). I use that instead of straight salt for keto flu, and it made a big difference for me.
Before transitioning to carnivore, I had really bad eczema/psoriasis/acne and that's been healing well gradually on carnivore. I'm nearly 2 years into carnivore. The problem since the very beginning is that whenever I eat animal products from unreliable sources, i.e. supermarkets where (I'm guessing) they feed the animals a diet contaminated with some plant matter I'm allergic to, then my aforementioned skin symptoms would flare up. This includes pork, beef, egg, dairy. I couldn't source a reliable beef/egg/dairy source, so for the past 2 years, I have only been eating pork for the most part. Incidentally I've always had electrolytes imbalance issues. In the past I only played around with magnesium, potassium and sodium but they only helped so much. I noticed that the symptoms became especially problematic when I began to exercise a lot more, which gave me the idea that perhaps the problem is calcium deficiency, because calcium is highly involved in neural signaling and muscle contraction. A couple of weeks ago I started testing supplementing calcium citrate, which supposedly is the best form of calcium supplement, and it helped a lot. One thing that's not frequently discussed in the carnivore field is the effect of oxalate dumping. Before going carnivore, I ate a LOT of cashew every day. Cashew contains a lot of oxalate, which in the body predominantly binds to calcium and eventually be moved outside under the right conditions. So I can only guess for now that maybe I'm still dumping a lot of oxalate out and without supplementation, the oxalate would bind to a lot of the calcium in the food I eat, which puts me into a deficient state, and thus cause the electrolyte imbalance issues.
Great to hear from you, many thanks for sharing this. Oxalate dumping can cause major issues. The Potassium & Magnesium citrate I use in my formula binds tightly to the oxalates and enables us to excrete them from the body aiding massively in combatting any symptoms. Sounds like you're making fantastic progress in regards to healing the body with carnivore, so keep pushing forward and keep up the awesome work.
I’ve some question about our needs in electrolytes. Accordingly to the studies about the best sodium intake which is around 5 grams. That said, we need 2 to 4 times more potassium. So, at least 10 grams of potassium is required. How can we reach that amount of potassium ?
I went and grabbed my electrolyte powder to look over while you read things off: I use Dr Berg's - its sweetened with Stevie. It does have some calcium (calcium lactate) 75mg and 40mg of sodium + 60mg of chloride to 1000mg of potassium. Also has magnesium citrate 120mg, Non-gmo citric acid and malic acid. I go on and off keto depending on occasions and holidays - just getting back on now after an 8 day lapse. I never experience keto flu using anywhere from 2 to 5 scoops of this a day. Thoughts anyone?
Richard I’ve listened to you and Stephen on Spotify just finished your 24 hour live. Great stuff great guests well done. 2 questions if you don’t mind answering 1) I eat fatty ground beef from Tesco I can eat the whole pack and I’m not full? It’s ground beef. It is the fattest one and it is roughly 1 to 1 fat to protein grams it’s about 1300 cals for the pack. I then eat a couple of eggs and am still not full? Any ideas? I don’t need to lose weight but am just interested in the mental benefits of the diet ( running off ketones) I like self experimentation I’m a health fanatic and I know my maintenance is 3000 to 3500. ( I’m over 6ft and workout with weights and do 15k steps each day) consuming 1500 cals in one meal and not feeling full is worrying to me as I’m not looking to gain weight and eating half my cals before 9.am and not being full is worrying to me any ideas cheers great 👍
Hey there Luke, great to hear from you and thank you so much for the kind support, great to have you listening to the show. My first guess would be that you've been eating this way for less than 12 months possibly? It can take quite some time for the body to upregulate specific pathways and enzymes in order to utilise fat efficiently. It's also important to remember that it's not the calories that govern whether we lose weight, it's the endocrine system. For this reason, I can consume up to 6000 cals worth each day without gaining body fat, compared with 2700 on a carb lifestyle in which I became clinically obese. Try adding in some omega 3s. These help activate CCK. Try and get more sunlight to the eyes early in the morning as this will stimulate MSH. Stay hydrated, as most hunger comes from lack of water and minerals. Try to incorporate fasting. Especially a 2 or 3 day fast. This will teach your body to tap into stored body fat and your body will learn that it has a constant supply of food on tap. But it's also important to remember, that we don't need our stomachs to be bursting.. It's ok to be a little hungry. 🙂
Amazing, thank you John for your continued support of our content and products. It helps us keep providing helpful information and content! Yes, it is all perfectly normal, they will always tend to have an orangy/pink hue to them due to the astaxanthin (the same thing that gives salmon their pinky colour). Hello Patricia, apologies, I am only one person and I've been tied up with my volunteer work and moving premesis. I'll try to catch up on the questions later tonight. Is there anything in particular you'd like to know. Many thanks, Rich
The chart you showed also showed all cause mortality rising as salt intake passed 1g. You did not mention that. I do very poorly sodium and other people do as well. One size doesnt fit all.
Check the chart again, because it does not show that if salt intake passed 1g all cause mortality rises. It showed anything below 2 Grams of Sodium had a significant increase in all cause mortality. Once you move in the 4-6 Grams of sodium one has the lowest risk factor all cause mortality. You do you if you feel like shit on too much salt cut down the salt. For me as someone who works out a lot and is very active during the day hitting that 4000-6000mg mark with meat and the additional with table salt fixes my fatigue, sleep insomnia, feeling weak and especially my mood.
@@Tom_CarnivorousDG Yeah, I read that sideways apparently. I saw another study that showed the optimal value was 2 000. I assumed it was the same study, or maybe I read that one wrong. At any rate, that is a very broad generalization and there are too many possible reasons it might not apply for everyone. I don't say salt is bad, just that many in the carnivore community have been unreservedly advocating a ton of salt saying it is good for you without qualification. People are different.
@@kronos77 agree just a matter of what you perform best on. For me everything improves with the more salt i take. I take 5000mg of sodium everyday. Thats is including what is found in ny food + what i put on top of my steaks. Anyways do what you feel best on.
Hey there Jimmy, great to hear from you. :-) The current range contains a tiny amount of stevia, but I am working on an unflavoured version which I'm hoping will be available by the end of his year. :-)
@keto-pro287 great! Thanks Richard. Love listening to all your videos. Your one of the top people I actually trust in what you say. Will definitely be ordering those un sweetened electros when they come out. Keep up the good work mate 👍
Hi richard quick question about salt. Ive got myself some himalayan sea salt. In the morning when i feel weak in the fingers i take some salt and everything functions as normal again. How many grams would you say of himalayan salt (same as table Salt? 15g a day?) per day is seen as optimal for someone who works out frequently. Also another question i thought id ask you, which you might know smth about. Ive been on carnivore for 7 months now. All i eat is beef, (snack) pig, eggs and butter. As of a few weeks ago ive developed sort of sleep insomnia. I wake up in the middle of the night 2-3 times and this just ruins my sleep quality. It defo hurts my gym performance. usually when i start to workout i can slowly feel the ketones rushing and then i can properly train. But the lack of proper sleep quality is defo smth that i would love to fix. Perhaps youve experienced smth like this or a client?
Maybe you need to set your circadian rhythm. Watch the sunrise including UVA rise every morning and try to see sunset. Limit blue light from devices at night 😊

Then once i started eating till full my sleep was completely fixed, very high quality sleep now
I'm hoping this reaches you as I have terrible trouble using your website. I have been searching for sugar free electrolytes and having seen u on UA-cam and feeling sure that your production standards are high, I decided to try your electrolytes. However, i sadly find them totally unpalatable, as they contain so much sweetener. I really am disappointed, at nearly £20 a pot it's huge waste of my money. Will you please consider making them without ? I don't suppose there is any chance of a refund as the packet is now open so I will just accept my loss and return to my original brand. Feeling very sad and disappointed, this has put me off trying other products in your range.
Hey there Ann, I can't find you on my system, are you sure it was us you purchased from? If you could email me directly on rich@keto-pro.co.uk I can look deeper. Our electrolytes only contain a tiny amount of Stevia, most of the sweet taste comes from the vitamin C. What I suggest to many is to dilute further. I've never had anyone previously saying they're too sweet, but I have had people say they are too salty... But they are electrolytes after all. But in answer to your question, I do indeed have an Unflavoured version currently in production. 🙂 drop me an email when you can and I'll look into this for you. Many thanks, Rich
