Two thirds of the day spent shopping: Junkyard run, Yearwood, Master's Touch (where we ran into RobertDIY), discovered we were sold the wrong turbo on the car (but for a screaming deal, who can complain?), off to Niko's for a larger turbo and BOV for our Volvo. Another long day of steady progress on our Volvo 240.
    WHAT CAM DO I HAVE?
Working on a method of identifying Turbochargers by fisting them...

Previous Owner's description of the car:
"The engine is in excellent condition even with 220k it runs PERFECT. (it's a Volvo, that's how they are)
The transmission was recently replaced with an M47 5 speed along with a beefier clutch.
The electric fan is from an S80 T6 along with a newer fuel pump.
The wiring harness is 3 years old and every sensor has been replaced or upgraded in the last 3 years
The camshaft is a high performance IPD turbo camshaft that really makes the engine come alive.
The turbocharger is a Cherry Turbos 18t with an adjustable manual boost controller and is about 4 years old. The Intercooler is off of an S80.
Factory oil cooler has been added
    100 Amp Denso Alternator.
Spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor, wires ect have all been recently replaced
The oil has been changed every 3000-3500.
    Suspension
The suspension has been completely redone front to rear.
    IPD sway bars
    IPD Sport springs
IPD HD panhard and torque rods
    IPD polyurethane suspension bushings
Weinman Slotted rotors front and rear
17 inch Volvo wheels with Brand new Nitto Invo high performance tires.
All the A-arms have been boxed.
The car has been featured in The Volvo Club of America's "Rolling" Magazine on 2 occasions and has been maintained religiously. I have recently polished and waxed her as well. This is an incredible car to drive and must be seen to be appreciated. I will be sad to see her go."

I started watching all videos volvo last September when I bought my 240. Mostly I've just been watching the ones that solve problems I'm dealing with. This is the most entertaining of all of them and now my volvo is all ironed out and running fine and I'm just watching yours for pure entertainment.

I don't comment on video much, but I have to say I enjoy how you do your editing and include the real deal what you spent/how you did it. Respect! I learned to drive a manual in a 1966 Volvo 122s and have helped restore another. This was near Seattle, but I currently live in Denmark where the tax on buying a car is %120, let alone registering it. However the tax does not apply if the vehicle is 25+ years old and can pass the inspection. I'm torn though, E30/Swedish Amazon... I'll always have a soft spot for Volvo's being born in Sweden.. :)

Instead of using the lower part of the returnline, get a 3/4" R tap, right size hole in the block for that and usually not a problem to get a fitting.

Between you guys and Robert, you make me wish I lived in New Mexico. I had a 1995 Green 850 T5, yes I said Green. As a dealer at that time my boss was invited to the factory and came back with it. I bought it right off the transporter which kind og made him upset because he had only drove it in Europe and still had the plates on it. I bought it because it was green. I had no idea at the time how rare it was going to be. Also it was a solid green as opposed to matalic green. Ive never seen it before or since. At any rate Im now a lot older and single so Im looking for another Volvo can either you or Robert help me out I have about $4000. saved up.

Wouldn't restricting the filter lead to higher oil pressure since the pump is pumping the same amount of oil through a smaller space increasing pressure like high blood pressure in turn increasing wear on the oil pump just like the human heart?

So jealous you guys can find pick-n-pull junkyards where you live, I've been looking for some parts for my 240 and they don't keep any cards older than 15 years.. and you can't go in yourself, you have to tell them EXACTLY what part you want..

Hello there Mr. Hello fellow volvo enthusiast here my name is Tom, I love in Eugene OR I was wondering if I could pick your brain for a sec, I have had 240's for my last 4 cars and have slowly learned about them working on and maintaining them myself whenever possible and practical given my lack of tools knowledge and time. I am 90% sure that my 1984 245 b230ft swap needs a new steering rack my question is this, I have heard that as long as I get the same style rack ie zf style or cam style (mine is cam) that it doesn't matter what year 240 it comes from they are all interchangeable. Do you know anything about this i have cruised the forums and can't really find a definitive answer.
I am asking because I called my local pick and pull and the have a can style rack in California that they can ship to me (for a pretty modest fee) i just want to be as sure as I can that it will fit before pulling the trigger on the purchase (no need for two racks).
Any info or advice you can give would be greatly appreciated! Doo you think it is dumb to be gambling with a used junkyard rack? If so where would you yourself purchase a new one of you needed to, online?
Keep up the good work love the videos and editing\production style you have.
You have a die-hard fan base in Oregon keep on truckin........ T

    • @DavidBello
      @DavidBello  7 років тому +2

+mathieu white research is a great way to start. Not to sound rude, but the more you know in advance the fewer surprises later. Also the transmission isn't really powerful. That might be a good first step, to go to a manual transmission.

    • @FinnishComrade
      @FinnishComrade 6 років тому

Its pretty much dependant on your other modifications. Stock engine would benefit most from aluminium ic and around 430cc injectors to go with the big brother of the original turbo I.E 15g or even 19t. The next step is lowering the head about 1mm and porting/bigger valves for the cylinder head, specially exhaust side is important in these 530/531 heads to work on. With such setup, good turbo would be in the hx35 or hx40 area. And with greatly increased airflow you would need to upgrade your injectors compared from previous to around 600+cc. Thats pretty much the basic setup for around 400+hp.

jim miles..you're right I didn't mention that, I thought I did.. I'd take $1,000obo for Larry and parts for it, or $4,000 obo for both the 940 w/ extra parts and Larry and all of the parts and everything. $3,000 for 940 firm and extra parts with that too
