    Got to admire you, you have more patience than I have. Couldn't wait to see the thing running.

    I suspect that you are correct. I think the broken part was broke by the tube being over tightened til the emulsion tube broke to top off. I don't think the fibre washers are needed.

    Everyone has covered the tube and how it works.
    I’ve been restoring carbs for years. TIP for everybody.
    Get a hand held sand blaster, the type with the plastic container on top to hold the medium. DO NOT USE SAND.
    You use baking soda.
    It cleans aluminium like new without damage, works great on model aeroplane motors as well.
    Do it outside over the grass don’t breath the dust, use a mask.

    AGAIN! Get some Simply Green for your Ultrasonic Cleaner. Regular dish soap WON'T cut it!

    Adam, I used to work with the larger versions of Solex , Weber etc. The type of carburettor is known as a fixed jet carburettor. The tube which sits inside that cylinder, (I know as an Emulsion Tube), are you sure it is fully located down into that body part. That would enable you to screw the outer sleeve, (the air corrector), without those fibre washers.
    The nozzle you soldered back on, (the auxiliary Venturi) looks too high in the main Venturi or Choke as you call it which may cause an over rich mixture or flooding.
    As a rough guide the top of that soldered on bit should be just above the fuel level in the float chamber.

      I think that the problem is corrosion stopping the emulsion tube fully seating, some one in the past took it apart and then due to the corrosion stopping it seating jacked the top off the air corrector/sleeve on re assembly. Clean the emulsion tube with scotchbrite and clean out the seating .

    You can almost see that the piece that fell out is actually broken off of the body/lower part. Soldering should square it away.

  • @terryraymond7984
    @terryraymond7984 9 місяців тому

    that piece you need to use some fine sandpaper and then maybe the solder would stick, and use Flux that will clean the copper

    I find myself yelling at the TV, the piston goes in the other way and then it will fit all the way threaded down. I think it popped the top off the piece because it was put in upside down and then tightened in. That piston fits into the center of the cap and that holds it centered.

    I'm glad you worked out that odd piece came from the air corrector, only thing is you shouldn't have filed/sanded it square as in effect you shortened it more also the grain of the sheered brass would have helped line it up true.

    Hi push item D down until it is down as far as it will go. There is a shoulder on the bottom to locate the distance between top of item S, seems wrong to be loose inside.
    looks like it has been pushed out and not fitted right back down.

    Awe, you ended with a picture of Connie. Looks like she's a neutered feral - She's missing the tip of one ear!
    Ever get that feeling that the jet cap might not be original to the machine? Maybe someone lost the original, and that one is all that was available. Must admit, it doesn't make sense, sucking in dirty dusty air through those holes, after going to all the bother to equip it with a decent filter.
    Funny thing is, that thing looks almost like a Priestman style vaporiser - almost as if the carb was for a paraffin engine. One thing's for certain, it throws up some interesting questions!

    There is no glue and no solder. Yes it just sits atop. If ya'll had glue or solder residue then maybe. But no it should be put the right way though. Ya'll did the right thing getting that picture. Early carbs were just so and such. Remember the Wright Brothers just sprayed fuel on a plate for the first flight.

    Is the broken part a fuel air mixture adjustment ? as it’s part of the main jet.

    • @sirlurk_calot
      @sirlurk_calot 10 місяців тому

      Yes, that's exactly what it does. It shouldn't be screwed down tight, that would effectively block off the emulsion tube.

    • @NorfolkMancave
      @NorfolkMancave  10 місяців тому

      Aw so that should be loose on there?

    • @sirlurk_calot
      @sirlurk_calot 10 місяців тому

      I think so. I used to work on similar carbs on BSA gensets. I nnotice other comments mention the emulsion tube might not be fully seated. If that is the case it may well need to be fully tight. These old carbs can be a mare, they made stuff up as they went along. BTW my offer to make a replacement is genuine, it's me job😂
