2v cells were used way back in very early valve radios and of course ideal for model glowplug engines. It always amazes me that people throw out battery chargers, cars have changed a lot in my lifetime but a 12v battery charger is always good to have stashed somewhere.
Nice stuff there Adam, that little compressor very handy for blowing dust away and for pumping up your car or van tyres. like the old battery charger must be from the 1960's or may be the 50's especially having a 2 volt charge on it that would be for charging old radio batteries. Good to have mains power in the workshop and making good use of those old 13amp sockets from the sale. Great video
Hi Adam, Some nice buy’s there some of the old chargers are batter than the new ones, And that little compressor very nice like that to you have done well mate , You take care of yourself and stay safe.🛠️🛠️⭐️⭐️👍
Hi Adam. I think the next comment has got it. I have seen big 2v batteries on emergency back up phone systems in electricity sub stations and the like. They are often glass batteries stored on racks and the charger hangs on the wall nearby. My grandfathers brother had a garage and he had a stationary engine in a shed which charged radio batteries and I remember someone saying they had to be charged 3 at a time using a 6v dynamo for the locals as there was no mains electricity. He made his fortune selling parrafin! Last winter I bought a 1amp charger for my motorbikes from Halfords. You have a bargain as it cost 5 times yours and I doubt it would still be around in 50 or 60 years. That little compressor is great. You truly have a Mancave to be proud of.
Love the mini compressor. Every workshop should have one. Why have modern battery chargers not got a variable charge facility? It would be so useful. Another good and informative video. Thank you.
Adam that small Compressor was made by T. I Bergess & Sons, and is very useful. I purchase one from new 50+ years ago and even re-sprayed an old mini, my cousin and friends had rebuilt souped up for racing at Snetterton Brans Hatch and Silverstone. That battery charger is perfect for slow charging as you have more control, unlike the modern ones. I picked up a similar one in a garage clearance the other month, made by Crypton Equipment Ltd, along with other goodies. You will also find those metal rods useful for making the key ways on your engine, fly wheels. So some very useful items you have. 👍
On the charger, change the bridge rectifier from the undoubtedly selenium to a modern silicon type. Rectifiers this old invariably will be inefficient or will fail under load.
Try measuring the charger output without the battery connected. I'd guess that it's output voltage might increase for each of the 4 0ff 12v positions. If it doesn't vary in voltage, then I guess there's a different value current limiting series resistor for each of the 4 switch positions, the lower value resistor being in the last switch position ( allowing greater current flow). Excellent condition though
Try your 2v as a trickle charger ,, as for the compressed you need to up great from man cave style to canadian brush style,,,,,, a tireon the out side wall and use it as a air holding supply tank iam sure you will fine a presser switch even a water pump switch will work
I've a thing for paraffin blow torches, also have a petrol one but haven't been brave enough to light it 💥👀👍🇮🇪 I also got an old battery charger 12/24 v free from the recycling centre and it's a cool thing, they will cook the battery and you have to keep an eye on them But they work where smart chargers are too smart for their own good 😂
Just an idea ... on that black main switch ... the common setting is "toggle-up" = ON ... and "toggle-down" is off. You'll make it much safer in use if you'd turn it 180° or have a look inside if you could change the wiring.
Iv'e had one of those old compressors that i bought second hand probably 30 years ago and used it for pumping my car tyres up, yours is missing the cream guard that covers the belt , it has a metalic sticker on it with the word powerline writen on it , i could send a photo if i had an email address.
Both items are a great findsand worth every penny. Cheers Bob

Adam. Loving that Compessor & Charger.
Quality.
Greetings from S Devon.
Awesome! That battery charger is brilliant.

Alright Adam glad you now have power in your workshop
That master switch wants some rubber grommets on the outlets.
that charger must be from the 60's, even the 50's. built to last

Very cool bud

Nice buys there.
The charger is from a mobile telephone exchange, BT had hundreds of these using a bank of 2volt glass batterys to make 50volts,
Handy

The compressor looks like a burgess one. Mine had a basic spray gun on it.Cheers.
defo radio charger mate however its a bit of a rough output for modern batteries john
No rubber cable gland to prevent electrocution.
Key steel for making shaft gib keys. (Soft)
If you coudl put a guage on that little compressor though to see what pressure it delivers

slow charge is a Trickle Charge 🙂
I have an old charger which has 12V High and Low settings👍
Those chargers or rather the manufcturer made/makes float chargers for emergency lights and maintainers for generator batteries.
Awesome finds and purchases! What type welder do you use arc or mig
Is it just me but 3 videos ago when your stripping the motor down, your battery charger is plugged into a black extension lead,
Now you gota get a lathe

that compressor needs a full restore the same theme with the motor the same
Keep on mooing !
Bargains all round! You'll have to change the fitting on the compressor to a female, you've got a male one on there which is ass about face 😂
