I'm wondering if the petrol tank on this is original. If you look at 9:53 you can vaguely make out the remnants of an "ATCO" branding. Looks like a tank off one of the old Atco Standards / very early mowers they made that were 2-stroke. I think they were Villiers engines?
You noted those holes on the bottom of the air corrector you soldered? Maybe they are for tuning and why the corrector is loose so you can adjust the air intake at the base of the main jet? I think you picked up on the issues I noted, not running on both cylinders, too rich, and that oil leak needs sorting before it becomes an issue. And the noisy aircraft is a Mk V Spitfire 😉
It looked like it was only firing on one cylinder a lot of the time at the first attempt. Sounds good now. 👍? I could just listen to that spitfire all day, how often do they fly over your house
Yeah the left HT lead is not good to be honest. Give it a wiggle and it starts firing. Going to change them I think. As for that Spit fire, we'll they don't come over very often. But being only 8 miles from RAF Maraham we do get a fair few fighter jets.
I think you can be justifiably pleased with that engine - it sounds pretty fit all things considered. When it's running steady, it has a droning sound rather similar to a Deltic! Obviously, not the same, but the acoustics of the yard lend a nice, deep, drone to the overall sound. Now, let's get some leccie coming off the generator end?! - I'm assuming that it's a battery charging set? Now, my JAP 55 has a little brass cock on the inlet manifold, and that engine also will not run properly unless you fiddle with that little cock to get a mixture that the engine likes, but it doesn't like changes in speed and load.
Perhaps the float is not shutting off the fuel flow correctly . It did appear the top of the float had a dent or a hint of wear. Is it possible to have the float installed upside down ?. How is the fuel level actually controlled between float and float bowl valve. Is the valve worn and so not working correctly. On very old engines I have sometimes built the float height up with a drop of solder between it and the shut off pin. Just suggestions.
Well the flooding carb was a big red herring. The leak from the carb turned out to the 2 copper O rings that is in the fuel pipe. I replaced them and leak stopped.
Noisy plane lol, its making beautiful music, a lovely Rolls Royce Merlin in a Spitfire! Much better music than that row a lot of these bands make at shows haha. Could listen to a Merlin all day ..... I just dont want to pay for the fuel, even for 5 minutes haha. Rather appropriate, as most of those Normans were used on RAF power packs used for starting Hurricane and spitfire aircraft. My late great Uncle Peter had a Norman twin, when it ran it ran very nicely (if somewhat loudly), but when it played up it was a complete swine. He made a new handle from thick wall box section as he described the original as lethal. He swapped the huge original generator for one like you have on your Jap 2A. He replaced his HT leads with normal ones. It even had the original heavy cast iron base, but sadly the chap he sold it to in the early 2000's broke it for spares despite promising not to.
I would like to keep it all original. But that left HT lead had rotted at the end were it goes in the mag. I trimmed it back but it is Jusy buggered inside to be honest. Now it's a tad short so won't hold in very well. I might try and replace the HT leads and keep the plugs. And yes that governor needs looking at.
If you look at some of the T300 images on the net a lot of starting handles are actually a permanent fixture on the starter shift. Flat steel with a square hole bolted onto the shift with a spinnable handle fixed at the other end.
the float is not working it flood and to rich a mixture and that oil leak is not good and that lever at the carb is that not the throttle you might get a better tic over but it runs need new leads it would be better on good wheels so next time might be ok
That plane was a spitfire
That's what I thought...
I do like watching his videos . He's down to earth
@@stephenbrown5410I’d love to hear a Merlin fly overhead like that
Yes the plane is a spitfire
I think you should keep them spark plugs and only replace the ht leads but doesn't she run lovely one of the best sounding flat twins I've heard

11:21 also provides a good view of it
Im back and supporting
That noisy aircraft looked and sounded like a Spitfire

just good to hear her run at last
So pleased for you. She sounds nice.
that airplane ... was sounding like a WW2-engine.
That Norman is doing nice!!! Great job!
Looked like a Spitfire
@@alanlake5220 Yeah ... Definitely something "old" 😀
What a beauty , nice tick over ect
The motor sounds solid
Ow yes. Sounds really 👍
Well done lad.
It’s been I few years since I was last at the henham rally must be nearing 40 years
Well done on doing a fantastic job Adam. That engine sounds brilliant.
Keep up the good work mate
Thanks buddy. 😀
Now, she does sound nice. 👍
Well done thanks a cracking little engine
Deffo a spitfire graet video 👌
Nice one buh 😊 like u say, a little fettling and she'll be sweet.
Harrrah, Norman is alive 👍👍👍👍👍

Fantastic, I kinda think that starting this engine could be used for a new set of opening credits, now the previous engine has gone to a new home?
Very fitting. Spitfire does a fly bye then the Norman starts. V for victory.
It was very ironic I must say. Very fitting moment and not at all planed.
nice job again
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome she lives :-)

That sounded a bit like those cars they used to race at mill den hall
She does sound nice.
Sounds tidy enough ,well done Man cave try some modern plugs ?
Good man well done🤠
Sounds great

Is the "air cap" (the brass hexagon tube/cap you repaired that sits over the emulsion tube) the adjuster for the main jet mixture?
A norman conquest

That's a nice story but with a sad end. Hate things getting broken up. 😕
Keep the ht leads and plugs as they are rare and better and nicer than normal ones, my norman has its original plugs and leads still .
Also I mentioned in the last video thing your turning is the governor but yours isnt working correctly I see.

@@NorfolkMancave one of my ht leads zapped me once when i was around 8 so i put some instlation tape on it.
What's that meter, on the side of the engine, suppose to do, because I don't see it moving.
That's a oil pressure guage but don't seem to be working. Will give her a oil change and clean guage tube out. Hopefully will work again.
Glad to see the machine is brought back to life.
hi were these norman motors used to power search lights in ww2 ? thanks
I belive some of them were on search lights yes.
Sounds like a BMW
I knew you'd get her fired up. She's temperamental that's all .little fine tuning.
I think once I replace the HT leads it will be much better.

Hi I'm restoring one of these. What spark plug do they take iv got a mk one
Plus I'm in Norfolk as well
