Very Well said Dwayne. I imagine an 18 year old kid who recently moved watching you teach how to cook eggs and sausage. No one may have taught him. And over coals is different than a stove. It was informative.
I recently turned 55. I tell my kids all the time, “ the older I get, the more I realize how little I actually know”.
I used to brag and try to impress people. One day I realized. It’s not about me. I don’t have to be the best or the fastest or the smartest. It’s about helping others and being someone you be proud of when you lay your head down and go to sleep at night.

My two most favorite things to do is teach someone a skill they didn’t have, and learn a new skill from someone else! Learning is a lifelong experience! Two rules… share what ya know, and be teachable… follow them and you can go far.

I always felt ignorant because I am not good at working on vehicles. My dad could work on cars, school busses and tractors. One day a customer who is a mechanic said he was amazed at my leather work and saddle repair. That was when I realized everyone has their own specialties. I also agree that if my customers are just starting riding I make sure they know we all started out not knowing and we are all still learning.

Great cigar for a change of pace too. And the Toscano’s which are also fire cured are another great option, especially for a short smoke.
But WOW, I started watching this because of the cigar mention but I got a lot more than I bargained for! Never thought I’d be so provoked with deep thoughts by a cowboy telling me an old Persian proverb. I genuinely appreciate your disposition and overall “take” on these things. Thanks for being a deep thinker and sharing it with the world.

I love your phrase "Disturb my calm" and I admire people like you that embrace and exude a well centered calm. I have found that when I am at peace in myself I can do good things and there is growth around me. When I am at odds with myself, nothing positive comes from my works and my presence. You can call it Spirituality, Karma, Tao, God or simply Peace - there does not seem to be a way to be happy without it.

Thank you Dewayne. As a 23 year career educator of adults, this is the bases of my career, and my life. No matter how much we learn, no matter what we know, there is a world of stuff by comparison that we do not know. And until we embrace that we do not know, we can never learn. And until we embrace that we will never learn everything, but we TRY to learn as much as we can, we will never be happy. I follow you and will attend the school BECAUSE I don't know. I don't know horsemanship, saddles, feeding, caring, and communicationg with a horse. Bonding with a horse. Am I going to be a professional wrangler? No. Am I going to change my career after 23 years in my late 40's? No. But I WANT to know. I WANT to learn. And the first step is NOT to find a techaer, that's step two. The first step is to know, that I do not know, and embrace that I want to. So thank you Dewayne. We'll see you on down the trail.

Even for those that know how to do the “simple” things (speaking of myself personally) can still enjoy the content of someone embracing the simpler things in life. If someone learns something from it, then it’s all the better. Keep up the good content brother, I enjoy every bit of it. It’d be very enjoyable to sit down over a cigar, and have some good conversation with you some day.

There's a lot of us thanking you for your videos, but I'll throw my thanks in there too. As a 48 year old who started my horsemanship journey when I was about 44, I have learned a tonne from your videos and the horse people I know personally. Horsemanship is a hard world to get into when you haven't grown up in it. It takes a lot of learning and a lot of understanding to do it right and not get killed or injured but it is so worth it! I am very thankful for the instructors and mentors I have had so far that have been willing to bear with my (sometimes unending) questions, and were willing to bring me along side and teach me. I count your channel as one of those excellent resources! Keep it up Sir!

There's a saying I learned some years back about working and riding horses: "The hardest part about horseback riding is the ground." So Dewayne, to respond to your video I'll say 1) we oughtn't be too hard on ourselves, and 2) we darn well better not be too hard on others. As the saying goes, "the rising tide lifts all boats", so we should never assume what another person knows nor should we react negatively to a comment that in all likelihood was well-meaning. Most folks aren't "bad," but some folks can be "ignorant" and lack tact. And sadly, reacting angrily to an ignorant and tactless comment is just a wasted emotion. Life is too short for that. Keep on keeping on with your videos! Keep on teaching the "simple stuff." We need a whole lot less complicated stuff in our over complicated world.

Hi, Dewayne. I am a 59 year old female -- a city girl and a retired social worker. I have been horseback riding twice - once in girl scouts and once on vacation with my parents. I watch UA-cam videos on art because that is my hobby. However, I recently found your and Mama's videos and like them a lot.
I agree with you about our country falling apart because people cannot seem to talk to each other about different views and ways of life in a courteous way. When there was the attack on the capital ,I was so scared I had a hard time sleeping because I was worried people with different views than mine would go to front doors to take Democrats to a concentration camp.
Anyway, thank you for your videos. You are making a good contribution!

Sir, you are a gem. This is the greatest example I've discovered for the power of the internet and the spreading of wisdom.

I found you a few weeks ago. You remind me of my older cousin. Your knowledge, life advice, dress and voice. He was an angus rancher in Montana his whole life. He passed from a heart attack about two years ago. I appreciate your videos sir

I gotta say, I’m far from doing any wrangling and don’t smoke cigars, but I’ve watched almost all your videos. I’ve learned a lot from you. Some of it I may never use, and some of it I already have used. Thanks for doing what you do. I’m sincerely appreciative of it, and I hope only good things come your way.

I love Mr Pat's videos. I'm trying to learn the way of the bridle horse. Ignorance can be taught. Stupidity will never learn.

Sometimes I’ll watch a video all the way through, and afterward feel like I wasted my time waiting for something of substance. Your videos are always a pleasure and I would like to command you for your perspective.
