While I don't plan on picking this up, I'm glad they seem to have listened to a lot of the criticisms of other devices. The Start & Select buttons are in a better spot and the watermelon color is definitely more transparent than on the Flip. For me the screen is just a bit too small which is why I upgraded to an Odin Lite from the RP3. But this is definitely great for people who want a smaller Odin Lite or better and for a lower price. I also love the simplicity of the Retroid Launcher and how easy it is to add box art from Google Images if the scraper doesn't find it. Only problem I've had with it is it seems to name some games wrong. Megaman X, X2 & X3 were all just seen as Megaman X. This seems to happen with games that have numbers at the end of the name. I also wish it wouldn't automatically put the region at the end of the name. But other than that, it's a nice simple experience.
I really hope Retroid can make something at least 6" screen. I am still choosing between Odin Lite and Logitech G Cloud. I mainly just do remote play from my PC. Do you like Odin Lite?
I was very close to getting this one. The deal breaker was screen size. I really wanted something closer to a switch size so I coughed up the extea cash and orders an Odin 2. Just a bit bigger screen on the retroid and I would have gone with it.

I kind of wish that none of these handhelds had micro HDMI output and only had USB-C. Because if you need an adapter or dongle anyway, it might as well just be USB-C because everyone had one of those lying around. I suppose it might not just be as simple as putting a USB-C port that only supports video out (so no data or charging) though, perhaps that would require a more complex / expensive design internally.
Video we've been waiting since the reveal! Amazing review 👏 I would like to point out, the sticks are not like the switch, at least not exactly. They're from the rp flip, much bigger and more range. Can't wait to get mines in hand!
Great video, man. I've been looking for something like this to take with me on back-to-back road trips later this year. I'll be grabbing one for sure now. Answered all my questions.
Just offered one, particularly the watermelon one. Love the fact that it is Android based, for that price. I honestly think it will be used a lot more than my Switch.
Another great video, been waiting on your look on this exiting new handheld. A few things I would like to see on a follow up video - Xbox Game Pass streaming and PS5 remote play - N64 and Saturn emulation - Some King of Fighters emulation, I really would love some confirmation from at least one reviewer that "pretzel motion" inputs are easy to pull off on this handheld - What the limits of Yuzu emulation are on this thing Thanks for the great work over the years ETA PRIME
The only handheld that can touch this and still be somewhat affordable is the Odin 2 Base.. which you def get a good amount of performance boost but is also about $150 more after shipping.
I got the original pocket 3. Would love to see them make one with 5.5in screen or so. I think that would address readability and ergonomics, I struggle with the distance from bottom of the device to the analog sticks being too short
Odin 2 pro is what I have. It’s endgame hardware though. Most aren’t gonna want to pay 400$ for a emulation handheld. Even though it doesn’t get better. I love this damn thing!

Is there any chance you can throw in a few of the Netflix games on Android based devices? I don't know if it will work on these devices, or if it will recognize the controller, but since Netflix is throwing games like the older GTAs and more modern indie games it would be interesting to see how these devices handle them.
I hope some day we can get something like this but running a Linux distro that's not Android. Having Android as OS makes me consider these like smartphones with physical inputs rather than emulation consoles. Sadly, it doesn't seem there are PS2 and Vita emulators that are up to the task in non-x86 Linux yet.
Agreed--it's impressive price-to-performance, but for me and I'd presume many others, there's a lot of value in the feeling of a unified, neat system that feels like it was designed for purpose. A unified front-end like the Linux distros and EmulationStation setups we've seen from Anbernic et al. is really important to me, and is the reason that when I bought my dad a retro gaming handheld, I went for an Anbernic that's nowhere near as powerful as something that can be had for not much more money; I wanted him to have something that felt like a purpose-built console, not a clunky, piecemeal-designed phone operating system shoehorned into a game controller. The experience is the thing you're paying for as much as the technology powering it, and until there's something for PS2/ GC as streamlined as SteamOS for this money, I'm not really interested!
What I would like to see is if more than 1 BT controller can be paired with the device. Really like the video out option, so would make sense to play 2 player games on a big screen. Dont think any of these handheld videos show if thats possible
Well RP3+ does multiple BT controllers. I think I did it once so maybe it's misremembering but basically if it's android chances are you can connect a lot of BT devices.
After watching 3 reviews of this device from 3 other YT channels I'm REALLY looking forward to A Linux version of this hardware, A $150 Anbernic or Powkiddy device must be right around the corner! Great review of the RP 4 Pro... So uhh... Is anyone gonna review the RP 4 "regular non pro" version?
been waiting for something that can handle PS2, everything else is huge or over priced, this is EXACTLY wehat i have been looking for, espoecially for the price
~I'm of the opinion that the $100 price difference is worth getting Odin2. Some people buy RP every year for the performance jump when you can just get a 8gen2 now for the exra 100 and skip next year RP. They'll probably release the 5th version with a lower or similar performing SoC anyways. You'll save money in the process. Just like those who never got RP3+ or 4 and went straight to the Odin2. $299 vs $350 and much better performing SoC.
I’m looking forward to downloading so many retro games. I’m glad they came up with a handheld device that can maintain 60fps. How many games does the retro pocket 4 come with?
I want to get it, but currently have the RP3+ and if I have the money for it I'll easily get this or save a bit more and get the Odin 2 Pro/Max But still having fun with my RP3+ which is a good purchase for me back in Dec 2022
Maybe a hot take, but I want membranes for R1/L1 too. The PSP and a few controllers have them, and they are awesome. I just find the tact switches are too noisy, especially when playing at night.
Am really interested in this one. Have been waiting on a reasonably priced handheld that I can play my old ps2 games on. Love that it can be connected to a bigger screen. I know movies aren't the main focus, but can Google TV movies be downloaded to this device? I live in an area with very poor internet and if I can also download movies so I can watch them off line later, that would be a huge bonus.
@suhtangwong I've had problems in the past with an Android TV box that wouldn't let me download movies from Google Play where another one would allow it. Have also tried an Android emulator on my laptop that wouldn't allow it. Where we are, you need satellite internet to be able to watch anything. If the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro allows movie downloads from Google, then I'm set as I can download movies while at work. My phone doesn't have the ability to connect to a TV, unfortunately.
This thing got a higher Antutu score than my Galaxy S21 for only $200?! Dang, I was thinking on converting my S21 into a dedicated retro handheld once the S24 came out but I might just use it as a trade in for the s24 and get the Retroid instead.
That's a tough choice. On one hand this has higher benchmarks and active cooling. On the other hand, the Galaxy has that glorious AMOLED screen whereas this has a third party iPhone SE2 LCD panel. Another benefit of keeping the Galaxy is having it serving as a backup that's ready to go if you break your current phone.
Doesn't seem so bad for streaming slower or turn based games from a budget PC on 720p Ultra settings, on a good internet connection, ofc. Might be even better than buying a backbone controller for your smartphone
Only downside I see is, it's the same small screen as their predecessor... Wish it was at least a 5.5 - 6in screen. But I ordered mines on launch and can't wait!
I pre-ordered and am very excited, but do you guys think the screen is too small for DS games? I'm going to stick with it but I'm worried it might be hard to see as I'm getting older lol.
I played Castlevania Order of Ecclesia on my RP3+, which has the same screen as the RP4 Pro. It wasn’t a bad experience as I just had one screen active at a time and used hot keys to swap between the DS’s top and bottom. I can see the challenge if a game requires one to look at both screens at the same time. 4.7 inches is not a good size for that…
can you play special stages from gran turismo 3? Those scenarios are very demanding. Rome too. Cool console and review :D I have the 3+ and it's very good.
For a strictly streaming device, I think I'd go with the RP4, instead of the 4 Pro. the extra $50 you spend for the Pro doesn't include a wifi upgrade.
Jeez the quick settings look oddly familiar... LOL... Looks like the two branches do talk to each other. Some might not know but Retroid and AYN are the same company, and it's quite apparent with these quick settings.
Shadow of the Colossus! What settings/hacks can you apply to the rp4p to run SotC at max/consistent fps - be it lowering to 0.5x resolution or shader caching, I wanna know, thanks!
Why? The Steam Deck Emulates everything this does and then some. Even though it's looks pretty great, if I had the cash and didn't mind the size I'd probably get that over this.
Went with the 16bit US Pro. Finally a $200 one that looks like it is powerful enough. Was thinking about the Odin 2, but couldn’t bring myself to spend that much without it being a pc handheld
I'm still curious to see the price for the future Ayaneo android device that was announced. It'll be more around the price of an ayn odin at $299 starting though.
Legit, bought 3 different devices from them since rp2 and all perfect no issues. This guy must have bad luck/unit? Bought from anbernic and powkiddy and 1/2 devices didn't work or had issues 🤦🏼♂️
It's either the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro or the Odin 2. Since the RP4 Pro is a $100 cheaper this might be the one to get. I have a cheap R36S for retro gaming but it's pretty limited. Even PSone emulation is spotty.
Plan on picking up RP 4 pro, I got a miyoo mini plus, r36s as well, miyoo can only play up to ps1 so let’s not talk about it, r36s can play some psp games, tried monster hunter it runs quite smooth, Lego Star Wars sometimes lag, and gow is pretty much unplayable
I think the problem I have with the RP3 dpad is that it isn't good for fighting games. When I was playing Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on PS2, I was dropping shoryuken and hadouken motions fairly often. I never have this problem on the PlayStation dpads
Sadly I picked up a retroid pocket 3 + if only I waited a little longer I would have gotten this because performance and button placement seems incredibly better.
Flip was garbage, and that's from a Retroid veteran. It was a total joke of a design. Now if you mean a total redesign and it's just the 'New Flip' ok sure, but no, abandon that previous iteration, it was awful.

· "MVP Baseball 2005" is, in a lot of people's opinions, one of the finest baseball sims ever made. The PC version still has a huge modding community. The PS2 version runs on my phone like a slideshow where the clicker is manned by a drunk guy just on the verge of passing out. It's not ideal. If it could run well on this at 1X or better that would be a huge selling point for me.
@@squirtle4519 I love my Odin Lite. I know the Odin 2 is way more powerful, but I don't need that much for what I play.
Who knows, maybe we'll get a Plus version of the RP4P?
I was very close to getting this one. The deal breaker was screen size. I really wanted something closer to a switch size so I coughed up the extea cash and orders an Odin 2. Just a bit bigger screen on the retroid and I would have gone with it.
plus this device hurts ur hand after 30 min of playing its like playing on a skinny smart phone the thicker ordin makes it perfect to hold for long hours
@@CHICKENmcNUGGIESMydude yup, I have big hands and I was worried about that too. The price was the main selling point of the RP4 but playing games in 3:4 aspect on that would just be too small for me to enjoy.
Funny, exact opposite for me, if I buy a handheld I want a pocketable device not one I need a bag to carry, so I went with this
@@CHICKENmcNUGGIESMydudesame form factor on switch, if you own one it'll do the same damage...
I ordered retroid pocket 4 pro on dec 27. Actually immediately with the grip and the case, unavoidable purchases- really. But then started worrying about the screen and about the green tint. Odin 2 costs about 400€ in holland, retroid with all aforementioned bits and shipping was about 230$. If the screen really realy proves bad/ small i will sell it and splash more on the odin/ steam deck etc. However i am very hopeful
Wow, look at those benchmarks! Glad I didn't waste my money on the RP3+.
Seems awesome. Might have to sell my RP3 and upgrade. The USB-C display output is especially nice.
Thanks for this and for getting the red version!!! Wanted to see what is actually looks like....
Just offered one, particularly the watermelon one. Love the fact that it is Android based, for that price. I honestly think it will be used a lot more than my Switch.
Another great video, been waiting on your look on this exiting new handheld.
A few things I would like to see on a follow up video
- Xbox Game Pass streaming and PS5 remote play
- N64 and Saturn emulation
- Some King of Fighters emulation, I really would love some confirmation from at least one reviewer that "pretzel motion" inputs are easy to pull off on this handheld
- What the limits of Yuzu emulation are on this thing
Thanks for the great work over the years ETA PRIME
The only handheld that can touch this and still be somewhat affordable is the Odin 2 Base.. which you def get a good amount of performance boost but is also about $150 more after shipping.
The Dpad is my only caveat. Would be nice to have Genesis style DPad.
This just replaced the Odin lite with the same chip d900 but the pro version has a better cpu/gou and lighter. Still love my lite
I just ordered the odin light...
I got the original pocket 3. Would love to see them make one with 5.5in screen or so. I think that would address readability and ergonomics, I struggle with the distance from bottom of the device to the analog sticks being too short
The official Retroid 3/3+ grip helps a lot with ergonomics, especially using the sticks. I couldn’t use my 3+ without the grip.
Very cool but already got the Odin2. Although I prefer the dpad location here better for retro gameing plus this is much more portable.
Odin 2 pro is what I have. It’s endgame hardware though. Most aren’t gonna want to pay 400$ for a emulation handheld. Even though it doesn’t get better. I love this damn thing!
ill tell you boss-man ever since you started having the devices on in the box and taking them out i want to buy everything lol. HAPPY NEW YEAR sorry lil late
Would love to know this stacks up against the Odin 2 variants!
Pretty sure the processor on the Odin is more powerful
Odin 2 is top of the food chain currently. Not counting all those expensive "PC handhelds" on X86 architecture.
It's more about what you're getting for the price with the RP iterations. Not going to come close to Odin but that's fine because it's cheaper. You get what you pay for
@@LuisPerez-5pretty sure 😂😂. It demolishes this poor thing. Ps2 runs at 5 ou 6x res.
doesn't even compare
Micro HDMI on this device only does 720p. However it does 1080p USB-C video out.

I’ll probably grab one of these once the 5 comes out. This is pretty much what I’m looking for. Did this come with the emulators that you tested on?
been waiting for something that can handle PS2, everything else is huge or over priced, this is EXACTLY wehat i have been looking for, espoecially for the price
Nice!! Great review on the RP4 Pro. Thanks for testing out MVC2 dude.
I still have my RP2, i cant wait for an upgrade and this looks promising :,)
They should aim to make a 5-inch screen system. Other than that. It's a great psp replacement. :)
Petition for a viseo guide on using a mini pc with batocera on a CRT tv
~I'm of the opinion that the $100 price difference is worth getting Odin2. Some people buy RP every year for the performance jump when you can just get a 8gen2 now for the exra 100 and skip next year RP. They'll probably release the 5th version with a lower or similar performing SoC anyways. You'll save money in the process. Just like those who never got RP3+ or 4 and went straight to the Odin2. $299 vs $350 and much better performing SoC.
if at all possible i would love to see kingdom hearts 2 running on the pocket 4 i haven't seen anyone else test it yet
Taki Udon did one. The PS2 section is last.
Excellent video, uncle ETA. Any chance of seeing that teardown video of the AceMagic Tank 03 you promised??? Please.
I’m looking forward to downloading so many retro games. I’m glad they came up with a handheld device that can maintain 60fps. How many games does the retro pocket 4 come with?
I want to get it, but currently have the RP3+ and if I have the money for it I'll easily get this or save a bit more and get the Odin 2 Pro/Max
But still having fun with my RP3+ which is a good purchase for me back in Dec 2022
I might be picking one of these up. Looks really cool
Looks pretty good and amazing review as always, does this support R3/L3 function?
yes
@@toycoma98 good to know, due to most ps and Xbox games use them and I would like to try remote play on it
Maybe a hot take, but I want membranes for R1/L1 too. The PSP and a few controllers have them, and they are awesome. I just find the tact switches are too noisy, especially when playing at night.
I have reteoid pocket 3+ , I will considering buy the pocket 5 pro or 6 pro, this is a bestial change.
Can you try box86 or something similar to run some older x86 games on ARM? Just so we can see how these faster ARM processors handle Steam
If you can do that on an android phone you can do it here.
Dang, I was thinking on converting my S21 into a dedicated retro handheld once the S24 came out but I might just use it as a trade in for the s24 and get the Retroid instead.
ur s21 will still be faster in games, if its a snapdragon cpu.
I hope it arrives before the end of this month !
Man, it seems like exactly what i was looking for.
ETA Prime I love your videos, could you test the Acer swift go 14 with an m.2 to oculink egpu. Please I'm looking into this
Doesn't seem so bad for streaming slower or turn based games from a budget PC on 720p Ultra settings, on a good internet connection, ofc. Might be even better than buying a backbone controller for your smartphone
Make a comparison video between this and the 2S!!! Is it worth twice the price? We need to know!!!!!!!!!!
I want one. Don't need it, but may as well get it.
Add to my collection..
I love that lite blue DSI. ❤
4.7 inches is not a good size for that…
Very informative review! Thanks.
Other reviewers were disappointed about the screen quality, saying the white looks really yellowish. Have you noticed that?
can you play special stages from gran turismo 3? Those scenarios are very demanding. Rome too. Cool console and review :D I have the 3+ and it's very good.
For a strictly streaming device, I think I'd go with the RP4, instead of the 4 Pro. the extra $50 you spend for the Pro doesn't include a wifi upgrade.
Joey's Retro Handelds just released his review. Was really down on the ps2 emulation.
Could this play wii or switch games? Also, is the screen a touch screen?
It can play very few titles but it does work. I'm guessing you're new to portable emulators? Yes touch screen.
Jeez the quick settings look oddly familiar... LOL... Looks like the two branches do talk to each other. Some might not know but Retroid and AYN are the same company, and it's quite apparent with these quick settings.
Would love to see Pocket 4 Pro VS Odin 1
Rp4 pro decimates it!
@@suhtangwongno it doesn’t 🤣. Jesus calm down son
Can you run Kagero Deception? Btw love the red😊
Looks like a great handheld! How is the remote ps5 play on it ?
Shadow of the Colossus! What settings/hacks can you apply to the rp4p to run SotC at max/consistent fps - be it lowering to 0.5x resolution or shader caching, I wanna know, thanks!
Using an updated ExaGear I can play Fallout 3 in the wasteland on the RP3+ but I’d love to know if you can run more of the game on the RP4Pro?
I have a steam deck lcd version. Thinking of picking up this device for emulation specifically
Why? The Steam Deck Emulates everything this does and then some. Even though it's looks pretty great, if I had the cash and didn't mind the size I'd probably get that over this.
@TheRealAlpha2 Well for me it is more Pocketable than the Steamdeck you are Right about its emulation capabilities tho
@@TheRealAlpha2steam deck don't fit your pockets, heavier, bulkier and more costly. Yes it can do more, but so can a gaming pc
can't wait to play shaolin monks on that handheld
Went with the 16bit US Pro. Finally a $200 one that looks like it is powerful enough. Was thinking about the Odin 2, but couldn’t bring myself to spend that much without it being a pc handheld
Same, fax!
I'm still curious to see the price for the future Ayaneo android device that was announced. It'll be more around the price of an ayn odin at $299 starting though.
The RP3 shipped to me with a dead screen, it will take some massive upgrades for me to trust this company
did you get custoner support or a refund? I've never bought from this company and I'm trying to see if they're legit
Legit, bought 3 different devices from them since rp2 and all perfect no issues. This guy must have bad luck/unit? Bought from anbernic and powkiddy and 1/2 devices didn't work or had issues 🤦🏼♂️
Man i wish retroid make these things smaller and yet same performance
I’m so tempted to get this for genshin lol
And we are into 2024!
Cannot wait to see what tech comes out this year, there is a prophesy that we will birth AI in October, so keen!
Perfect emulation and price point
I think the problem I have with the RP3 dpad is that it isn't good for fighting games. When I was playing Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on PS2, I was dropping shoryuken and hadouken motions fairly often. I never have this problem on the PlayStation dpads
Docking capabilities? Charging, usb hub, and video at same time?
Have had my pocket 2 for a long time thinking it might be a good time to upgrade
not surprised the 3ds section disapeared
Do you plan to test the upcoming Gameforce ACE too?
Sadly I picked up a retroid pocket 3 + if only I waited a little longer I would have gotten this because performance and button placement seems incredibly better.
I really would like to see it run Metal Gear solid if you could. I ordered the RP4pro and just trying to get as much info as possible.
Watching this in my 3 days old RP3+ 😢
No, I don't need this. I'll just wait for a Flip version of this.
My retroid pocket 3+ and flip collect dust. I'll pass
Flip was garbage, and that's from a Retroid veteran. It was a total joke of a design. Now if you mean a total redesign and it's just the 'New Flip' ok sure, but no, abandon that previous iteration, it was awful.
I just want a ds emultation device and maybe ayaneo ds flip gonna cost 1500😢
@@cyclonex65if only stock Android could implement split screen somehow. I mean, Google already has their own split tablet so the software feature should be there.
@@ESTE_ES_POLLITO_CON_FRENO if you can get your hands on a used surface duo for ds that would be the ultimate.
Now they need to make it bigger. Pocket4+ ?
Which is stronger, this or the qled pimax portal? My portal can play Genshin at 60 fps pretty well
i think ill be investing in 1 of these i like my anbernics and miyoo mini but i want a high end handheld this year also have the r36s and anbernic RG351V coming later today.
