Looks nice imo
@@MilanSmore I agree! 🤗🤗
Nope nope nope
Looks clean
Skittles look good here
Incredible attention to detail here, amazing content and research. Best review of Rp4 pro on UA-cam period
Wow, thank you for your kind words! 🙏
The Odin 2 or steam deck are still the ultimate Retro handhelds but this device is a great option if £200 is your budget limit, that's fair enough. If a pocket size is your main concern, this is probably the best choice.
Yes, I like Retroid because it fits in my fanny pack. The size and price is what i like.
Yea, I think most will want this because of its compact size. In many ways, it's in a different category from devices like the Odin 2 and Steam Deck.
In my experience you can't buy the Odin 2 base. So you have to buy the Pro for like $370... at that price the Odin 2 is a really tough sell for me
@@SpawnTrapped Odin pro on amazon is $249 plus $20 coupon drops it down to $229. Why is my post not posting?
Try getting a snapdragon 8 gen 2 device or phone for that price, good luck on that one, The Odin 2 is a fire and forget device, It's well worth the dosh, It's ahead of it's time, still be great in 12 months time.@@SpawnTrapped
Exactly what we expected from the 4 Pro, great review! 🍿
Tim! 🤗🤗
Video covered everything I wanted to know thank you so much!
You're very welcome! 🙏
Nice review as always, thank you for the video.
Thank you for always stopping by! Much appreciated 🤗
Wow. Watching the videos between you and the other major emulation players in the market (RGC, and others) shows a more complete picture of how much the RP4 Pro can actually run. Very cool
Definitely check out my early look and Switch showcase to see even more footage of what it can do! 🙏🙏

I decided to go with this handheld because it's my first handheld and I don't like the size of the Odin or Steam... This is the perfect size - it wasn't about the money.
I think many feel the same way as you. The compact size is VERY appealing.
OMG. The Odin Lite outperforms the Odin Pro???
What a world.
That's just synthetic benchmarks, real world performance paints a slightly different picture because of the better driver support/optimization for Snapdragon. But yea, the SD 845 is definitely showing its age nowadays. 🙏
This is a great video and I like the 4 pro but I might get the Odin 2 pro for the extra $100 or so for longer time.
Great review! Thank you!
Thank you for watching! 🙏
Man this is the most thorough video ive seen
Thank you, that's always my goal! 🙏🙏
mine just shipped! should be playing by the weekend. i can't wait!
Did you get it in red or Trans white?
Nice!!! Which color did you get?
@@retrotechdad black. I was worried the clear ones might go funky in the sun 🌞
I hope I don't sound like a complete downer but people should buy Odin 2 it emulates PS2 games upto 6x resolution which is like 4k resolution or. More and GameCube and Wii can be played at 4x resolution. DreamCast, PS Vita and 3DS and Switch emulation runs better now at consistent frame rate although those emulation will get updates which will make. Them run on most handheld run better in future.
But Odin 2 is vastly superior and design quality and dual speakers which is on par with my S20 Ultra which is saying how good those speakers quality is on Odin 2 and beautiful 1080p ips lcd screen powerful snapdragon 8gen2 processors and WiFi 7 Bluetooth 5 3 and hall effect sensors analog stick vita style dome d-pad.
And ambient lighting on analog stick and side of the device is such a cool feature!
Not at all, the Odin 2 is one of the best devices on the market right now!
Definitive review - Great job, Daddy...good hustle!
Hey there! Love the video, im just wondering what version of nethersx2 are you using? and how do i install?
Just got mine in today so glad you put this video out👍👍👍
Which color? Enjoy it! 🙏🙏
@@retrotechdad us 😄
Can you tell me how’s your experience going ? Cuz on reddit ppl complaining a lot they are saying like it has a bug and ghosting screen and ps2 games are worst
This is what i call a REVIEW. Nice vid buddy!
Thank you very much! 🙏🙏
I absolutely fell in love with my RP4 Pro. I bought the RP2 right before the RP2+ released and had horrible buyers remorse, but the 4 Pro destroys the competition with the Odin 2 being the only real competitor for out-of-the-box emulation devices. There are cheaper handheld Linux devices with better performance, but most people don't want to deal with the configuration of those devices.
"with better performance" Such as?
None of the cheap handheld Linux devices allow you to play GameCube, Wii, PS2, 3DS, or a bit of Switch, not even if you tinker enough because there's NOT a single powerful enough ARM-based Linux handheld. If there is, notify me immediately.
Should be noted, there's a version of nethersx2 based on that older build called "nethersx2 classic."
Thanks for this detailed video! Are you worried about any trigger issues? Apparently some people are reporting it as some sort of defect. Thoughts?
My own unit doesn't have any issues to report. I do know that Retroid is providing a 2 year warranty on it and will send an entire replacement back cover (triggers are already installed) for anyone with issues.
Did you try the RP4 Pro with glasses ? Can you cast moonlight at full resolution ? Thanks !
Could you make a thermal comparison between the thermalpad and actual thermal paste? Thanks for the deepdown video!
That's actually a really solid idea. I am curious if high quality thermal paste will help temps in any meaningful way! 🙏
That's a good idea
I’d be curious to know if it’s worth putting on a better thermal pad/paste. I know spawnwave mentioned in his video that his thermal pads weren’t very good.
There's been some reports of the trigger mechanisms failing in the Retroid Pocket 4s, so a tear down of the triggers would have been nice. For one, I'm curious if they're using springs or magnets in the Retroid Pocket 4 to make the trigger return to it's zero position.
I have been thinking retriod pocket 4 pro, oden 2, Loki Max, and some offerings from Anbernic. Now that I know the Oden 2 kicks butt running the numbers what do you think between it and the Loki Max? I want to emulate GameCube and PS2 but also newer consoles. My issue is so many offerings but I can only get one handheld.
Bought the US 16bit ver. Looks great, cant wait to get it in
Green Tint issue - you still see this on power up and the software fix appears to show some text with a pinky color, a consequence of a software rather than hardware screen calibration fix.
Very good review. Thanks.
Something I haven't seen a channel test yet is if these Retroids can livestream with audio input capture. I tested my RP2s and couldn't get it to function properly..
hopefully we get Gamma OS for this, that would be epic
i really want to know how 4 Pro compares to 3+ battery wise when running the same game with the same settings, as I own a 3+ now and wonder about upgrading.
would like to see a video on how to emulate games that have peripherals like ddr or time crisis or guitar hero etc on handhelds
So I’m waiting to get one of these in my hands in a few more days or so. So forgive me if this is actually an obvious question…while you’re playing the games you are showing what you’re using to run the game. Is that something you’re prompted at start up for the games or setting you have to go into before hand?
search the retroid pocket 4 pro setup video from "Retro Game Corps" here on YT.
Best RP4P review in YT.
I’m living in China and they now stopped shipping nationally until 26th of February. I wonder if after that they will start selling the second batch, maybe with improvements. Good video, thank you
Yes, I believe they have corrected an issue with the triggers for the next batch.
Can you run multiple applications at once and jump between them seamlessly?
Best analysis!!
Thank you, I appreciate it! 🙏
Do you know if the RP3 screen protector fits the RP4/4Pro? I got 2 left from the 3 pack i bought for my RP3+. Thank you.
Great question! It will cover the actual screen real estate, but the bezel is just slightly larger on the 4 Pro. I say try it out and see how you like it! 🙏
Great video thank you!!, i have a question its not too difficult to put games on it? would be useful a video on it ^^

Great review
Thank you! 🙏🙏
Love this video
Thanks for the review. I understand that emulator are pre install on the rp4p but the game are already in too ? Or they are 0 games even rétro like snes, Sega Master system, gba. The rp4p is empty and is it to me to add games for each system ? Thx for ur help and sorry for my english im french 😊
Can you hook up a ps3 controller to this to get pressure sensitive buttons for mgs3 and socom 2?
I’m waiting for my RP4 but I am on the fence on whether or not I’m going to keep it or not. I jumped the gun and pulled the trigger, but after seeing the performance of the odin 2 I want that handheld as well. The RP4’s pocketablity is quite compelling but that beast of that snapdragon 8 gen 2 is on another. Should I keep my RP4 or go straight for the upgrade in the odin 2?
Do not hesitate to buy the Odin 2
How much more battery life do you think you could squeeze out of PS2 with Blutooth and WiFi turned off and running at 0.75x Resolution? Would that make any significant change? I'm on the fence to get this cause idealy I'd want at least 4+ hours of battery life at or close to 1x resolution to justify me buying it after just getting the 3+ 7 months ago
How does compare to todays up to date og odin pro?
Damn, that blue Vita looks sweet! Mine is black and boring but modded and stuffed full of games.
Still waiting been since the 18th of Jan. The USB c cable with my Retroid 3+ was junk out of the box it never worked. I hope their "branded" one is better
Keep an eye here on their delivery dashboard: www.goretroid.com/pages/delivery-dashboard
@@retrotechdad Retroid emailed me that my item was shipped on Feb 4th, it was not. They only assigned a tracking number to placate me and shut me up, nothing on status change until 2 days later. All reply emails were short and blunt(to the point)with zero empathy or humanity behind them. To top it all off they did this right before Chinese New Year so now it will be until the 19th that it even starts to move again, assholes. I'm not mad that this happened I'm just pissed that I was placated and told it was shipped when it actually wasn't, and then got the handgrip accessory and you'd think they'd combine shipping, nope. One was ready to ship the other one wasn't so I get to pay for shipping twice. This device better be worth it because so far Retroid hasn't impressed me in the least. I'm hoping this is a reflection of one person instead of the whole company. I'm thinking the latter. I may just invest another 100-200 and just get an Odin 2. Screw Retroid.
Could you compare the screen of this to an OLED like the RG505 (or any other OLED handheld)? How much of a difference is there in motion blur and saturation?
RG556 is coming
I’m really surprised that the Odin lite out performed the Odin pro on a few of the bench mark scores.
why did the buttons change from black to colored in the 3nd and 4rd section?
I am hoping to get great results with higher resolution for the two Phantasy Star Portable PSP titles then mine arrives
PSP is really nice on this!
Do you know if it would work with the 8 bit do phone clip for xbox?
Will a microsd from a pocket 3 pop right in and work, or will it require a reformat? I'd hate to re-transfer everything.
No, it will require a format. 😭😭
@@retrotechdad bummer. Thanks for checking!
@@retrotechdad Just an fyi. I got my rp4 pro in today and the card from my rp3 worked just fine without reformatting.
Could you test DJ Max Portable 2 on PPSSPP on the Retroid 4 Pro? That game's notorious for not running well on less powerfup systems, like the Retroid 2 and also Retroid 3
Think i might upgrade my metal smaller handheld to this.. this one looks solid.. and it comes in Red wooohooo :D
I have to really get used to not pressing power 😅as much as I didn’t like that placement on the 3+ I got used to it. The 4 pro is huge level up from the 3 + which was a beast on its own right.
🤣🤣I talked about that in my early look video. My brain was so used to that and I kept putting the 4 Pro on standby initially. I'm no longer doing that now that I've reprogrammed my brain. 😅😅
Mostly watching to justify purchasing the RP4Pro, but seeing the breakdown was a huge help. I'll probably only dip my fingers into some Gamecube and PS2 emulation, and probably just for some RPGs, but the performance and battery life is very solid for what I'm aiming at. I think this'll be a substantial upgrade from my Miyoo Mini Plus, so I might look into gifting it away.
The Odin 2 is overall a more powerful device on the high-end, but I'm so glad the RP4P exists to fill in for what MOST people want.
Not loving how some colors just aren't shipping. Ordered a Crystal Blue, apparently some people who ordered Crystal Clear 2 weeks after launch have theirs in the air if not in hand, but mine that was preordered on the 11th still hasn't moved.
I know its a small operation and what not but what happened to FIFO? If mine doesn't ship by Friday I might just cancel and spend my money somewhere that can handle shipping.
I ordered black on Jan 11th aswell, and mine just started to ship yesterday.
Have you checked their delivery dashboard? www.goretroid.com/pages/delivery-dashboard
They keep it pretty updated.
Excellent and quite thorough review. The only, minor gripe: why not show how Shadow of the Colossus plays on PS2 emulation? I never understand why SotC is overlooked when showing off PS2 emulation performance. It's clearly on the Mt Rushmore of Playstation gaming history and its high level of performance demand makes it a perfect PS2 game to gauge the device's emulation limits. Keep up the good work pops!
I did show it off in my early look video! ua-cam.com/video/VNnGzhjU5-U/v-deo.htmlsi=kYs_z8hl4cutbo8U&t=770
still rockin rp2+
Hey man, would you recommend I go from the 3+ to this I love my 3+ and the performance it’s really not that bad is this worth the upgrade or should I wait another year for the next Retroid 5?
The 3+ was one of my personal favorites as well! It depends on what you're hoping to get out of an upgrade. Is there anything specific you wanted to play or emulate?
Honestly, no, I mainly find myself using game streaming for switch games so a lot of the power for emulation isn’t my reason for wanting to upgrade. What I do like from the four are those analog triggers and the sticks seem to be nicer as well. The problem I have with the RP three is the small sticks when I play modern games on it. Are the sticks on the 4 taller and more ergonomic? I also heard there was an issue with the screens being greener. That’s one of the reasons I’m also hesitant to upgrade. thanks for your input from one dad to another 👍
Yes, the sticks here are a nice improvement over the small sticks on the RP3+. It's definitely going to be better for streaming as well since we have the full triggers now.
The green screen issue has been corrected, I talked about it here in this review at 12:48 and in my early look video.
Waiting for the RP5, hopefully we have a better PS2 emulator by then and improved screen.
I can find roms but I"m curious where everyone else goes?
In the UK; after shopping and possible customs you may as well get a refurbished Steam Deck from their official site. Shame really as I'd love one of these
How is your buttons colored? I have the black 4 Pro with black buttons and colored etching instead (the buttons are black but the letters are colored).
I swapped them with the buttons from the Retroid Pocket 2S. Can be seen here @ 20:13
@retrotechdad oh nice. I must've missed it when I saw it in the beginning. I guess you recorded the vid in diff. order. Looks really good. I may have to do that as well
It sucks that AetherSX2 is no longer being developed. I understand why the dev stopped.
Great review and thanks for being so in depth!
Yea, AetherSX2 is incredible as-is but I would've definitely loved to see further development on it.
It's recomendable install daishijo?

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered
Это моя первая консоль, через две недели планирую покупку на али. Кстати на сколько брать флешку, на 256 или 512?

Not sure why these people didn't make an Atopic Purple 4 Pro 💜😭
My favorite color from the 3+ line. 😭😭
You have forgotten to mention the trigger spring issues , right? Mine should arrive today, fingers crossed
This is the only thing holding me back. Hoping this is an isolated issue
I didn't forget to mention it, my unit doesn't have any issues and I've had it for almost an entire month. I did read into it yesterday and it does appear that Retroid is providing a 2 year warranty on the triggers. They will send out an entire backplate with the triggers installed already for anyone with issues.
@@lilalj07 Retroid has stated they are providing a 2 year warranty on the triggers. They have corrected the issue for future batches. I'd say keep an eye out if you're concerned and see if the next round of shipments don't have an issue. For what it's worth, my unit hasn't had any issues and I've had it close to a month.
@@retrotechdad hello sir, speaking of the triggers, I've seen other reviews mention that the progressive rate of the analogue triggers is not on a linear scale. As in, when playing a racing game, you have to nearly fully depress the trigger to get about half throttle. Do you see this as something Retroid may be able to address in the settings via a software update or is it more likely the type of trigger they choose to use and isn't reprogrammable? Since this genre is likely my most played category, it could be difficult to 'finesse' the "right foot" like I'm used to on PC or like Xbox controllers can. I greatly appreciate your feedback sir! 🙏
@@briangiven7399 I've asked around about this as well, and apparently it was fixed in an OTA update just before launch.
Como has puesto los botones de colores? Lo has cambiado tu?
Yes, I changed them from the Pocket 2S buttons.
Can you try to emulate old Japanese PC 9800 Visual novels on the Odin 2?
I never saw this on UA-cam and it would be really interesting.
Pleeeeeaaase! ❤😊❤
out of curiosity, ive heard the battery life of this isnt great, do you think its possible to do a battery upgrade ? or not at all ?
I think the battery is pretty acceptable given the size of the handheld. Definitely check out my battery testing section to get an idea of what to expect. It will be tough to do an upgrade, there's not a whole lot of room in there.
cheers i was going to check that out but i ran out of time during my break. thanks! and will be watching the rest later@@retrotechdad

why is prince of persia lost crown in the thumbnail but not the video?
It is in the video, take a closer look at the Switch portion of the video.
thanks! I glanced over that first time. Good to see it run at 60fps
@@ProfessorElz no problem :) The Switch performance is indeed quite surprising
Yea, it's a nice bonus! My early look video has more games showcased as well.
I've always wondered why no one shows Tekken Tag for PS2. It a title nothing portable could handle (besides Steam Deck class devices).
I'll have to keep it in mind, I actually really enjoy that game! I was actually covering a lot of viewer requests with this one too. 😭
It's super frustrating how nearly perfect this is. If they could keep the form factor, but add in a powerful mediated dimension or snapdragon and include an open screen it'd be easier perfect. I wouldn't mind paying more for that. But as of right now it's just missing a bit too much for 200 when compared to alternatives.
what are those alternatives at 200 bucks?
Im very curious about the $200 alternatives.
My RP4pro came and in 24 hours the R2 Trigger broke down just like many others. Now no response on when the replacements will arrive - even before Chinese new year. Very disappointing.
That's a bummer! I know Chris from Retroid is very responsive, he should get back to you soon. Retroid is providing a 2 year warranty on the triggers.
@@retrotechdad Many thanks for your reply. Unfortunately they charge extra for DHL but for replacement… it is probably forever. I stopped getting responses & will take the optimism of course…
So can you swap btwn NetherSX2 and AetherSX2, per game?
No, you can only have one installed. 😭😭
Do you think thermal paste would help the throttling? Or is it a pad they use
I was going to try some MX4 and see if it drops temps a bit.
I ordered My 16bit us, but it doesn't arrived yet, there's been 10 days since i purchased it😢

No, Retroid devices do not come with any games.

🔥🔥
So what’s the best emulator for ps2 then? I see you have used 2 in your review
The results vary between AetherSX2 and NetherSX2 depending on the game. I personally like using AetherSX2 (3668) but if you see performance issues, then it's worth trying out NetherSX2.
Makes sense and thank you for the quick answer
I really hope somebody releases a device at this power level with a 4:3 screen, since it cant do switch super well I would rather just have a 4:3 screen I hate playing ps2 stretched
It's possible we see an upgrade to the 2S in the future. It would be nice to see for sure! 🙏
Can this run crisis core for psp
Got this just few days ago, and I have copied all the best PSP games onto one SD card and ran them all, this is the one.
Are there already switch game on memory card
No, Retroid devices do not include any games.
I really want this thing but, I already have a Steam Deck.
Please find iut if you can play harry potter ps2 games and lotr ps2 games??

@@retrotechdad hope so, i dont really want to get into big game consoles as i find it time consuming but the retro handhelds feel like a great sub and fun
With Anbernic about to release RG556 which has an OLED screen, this thing is DOA!
Looking forward to covering it!
the things huge, the appeal of this is the size
Is the OLED confirmed? The only demo video Anbernic has put out so far (that I know of) doesn't really look like an OLED screen.
The Retroid has the smaller form factor for those who want more portability. The new Anbernic, to me, feels like it's the "We have an Odin 2 at home" handheld.
RG556 will be powered by a T820, which is about RP4 non pro level. So Gamecube and PS2 is out of the question for it.
@@chemicalburrito782 the oled is confirmed yes
as a casual user I wish these are set up to run hard to emulate games out of the box. most people have no clue which settings to tweak, so I will pass on this one and wait for a device that is plug and play.
The Odin 2 is definitely that device which costs about $100 more when the base is in-stock.

Hey Kyle! 👋🤗🤗
I've been lightly considering getting a Retroid Pocket 4. Before he disowned me, my brother gifted me with a Retroid Pocket 2. But I have had it in storage since then, since we moved shortly afterwards. I'm considering selling off my 2 and replacing it with a 4.
