The surf was rough and the BG 5000 and the 9’ Tica are definitely light tackle for a blacktip that size! I had a hard time with it and even though she has caught a lot of very impressive sharks on the channel this one might have been to much for her! Thanks again for Watching!!
We live in the Lake Mary/Sanford area so we both have relatively long drives to the beach. The conditions have been unusually bad this year and we have been struggling to get to the beach and soon we will be dealing with the hurricanes! We usually average around 50 trips a year and this year I don't think we have went 10 times but it is what it is! Thanks for Watching!!
We have caught a lot of sharks with the BG 8000 but this was the first one on the BG 5000 and the reel didn’t have any problems. I was very impressed with the way this light setup handled the shark😀
I don't know which reel to choose between the BG 5000 and the BG 8000. I'm mostly fish for whitings and pompano and noticed the 8000 have a faster retrieve speed. Should I get one of each?
Definitely get the BG 5000 the BG 8000 is just to big, The BG 5000 is a little big for whiting and pompano but is a good general use saltwater reel. Thanks for the question and Thanks for watching!!
We use a 2 part leader, 1 part of stainless steel cable and 1 part of mono. On this leader the mono was 50lb and was attached to the 300 yards of 50lb braided line on the reel using a FG knot which connects the braided line to the mono leader. The sharks skin if very rough and will cut braided line! Which is why you need a long leader to keep the braided line away from the shark, The sharks will jump and spin completely out of the water and without a very long leader you won’t catch them, Thanks for Watching!!
Thanks! We caught another Blacktip the same size, On the same rig while fishing for the Bluefish. This time with our Quantum Cabo 80, Thanks for Watching!!
The Ocean Master surf rods at Bass Pro Shops are the best surf rods for the money. The 10-11-12 ft rods are definitely Big Fish / Shark rods . The 9ft Ocean master is smaller but is still a stout powerful rod for a 9ft surf rod. They recently had the 9ft on sale $40 off which was a fantastic deal. They range in price from $159-$189 so they are no t cheap but buying them from the store where you can actually look at them is what I recommend, plus the warranty from Bass Pro.
Awesome video!! Nice blacktip!! 🤙🤙💪💪 What day was this? I went out on Thursday (10-10) and it was a rough one But was still able to get 5 Stud Whiting between 12"-14.5"..

Hi, i am new. What is LEADER - 22 inches 480lb cable +7'5" 50lb momi diamond ( FG KNOT}? and why is it different from line 300yds 50lb?
