I'm using a Daiwa BG 3000 on a St Croix Mojo Inshore, and have no complaints at all it's a great reel that's been around a long time. Put it on a killer rod and you will have an unbeatable combination
Anytime I'm approached by a new angler wanting to get into saltwater fishing without using their freshwater reels I always point them to the daiwa bg2500 combo. The rod isn't the best but it works especially at a 130 dollar price point for rod and reel. I've caught white trout fishing 1/8 jigs with trout tricks, I've caught slot reds on a popping cork and I've even caught pretty big 20+ lb black drum on it using a carolina rig. A bg2500 with 15lb braid can do just about anything you need it to do inshore. It's not going to be the best but it most certainly is versatile. I have a friend that has caught big red snapper and even an AJ on a bg2500 just because he wanted to show how tough the reel is
Do you like your ugly stick inshore? I was looking at them the other day and I have a few other ugly stiks gx2 rods and I kind of like them for live bait. Thought it could be worth a buy
I've been using a couple of Diawa Revros lately, a 2000 and 3000. So far they've been fine, no complaints. They might not last as long as more expensive reels but they're great so far, especially for the kayak.

Not necessarily. It comes down to application. If you need a lightweight setup for smaller fish, carbon fiber will cover it. But aluminum reels won't flex on you when fighting the bigger fish and they're lightweight to use all day long
Team BG FTW, that fuego weight is nice. But I can't stand the wobble of composite reels. ill take the extra weight for the stiffness. I get better feedback through the rod I feel as well on the bg I started with an 8000 series reel casting jigs so i can deal with the 3000bg or 2500 all day. plus on longer rods it balances out the rod nicely
I bought a shimano recently. Its smooth but never again. The space between the line roller and the frame are to close together anything over a 15lb leader wont pass through. It may be a me problem using heavy line on a spinning reel but its what i like and their is no reason for rheir restrictive design. Diawa wouldnt do that to me.
The threads on the BG series are very very delicate. A little more torque and they will slip. I had this problem on one of my BG 5000. I recently cracked the arm in the back of my Daiwa Fuego 3000 and I was devastated. My wife tossed the receipt so I can’t even try to send it in and see if they would fix it since it is under warranty . So it’s super glued and backed by gorilla glue tape because I just got it last Christmas and I’m in love with the Fuego . She knew how devastated I was , so for Father’s Day ( my first fathers day ever ) my wife went out and picked me up the new Daiwa BG MQ 3000 and I’m in love all over again . What a classy luxury reel . I have yet to hook into anything massive with it but the fish I have caught have been brought in with ease . I went out yesterday morning and horsed a couple trout and mangrove snapper in with it . The Daiwa BG MQ just looks cool from an outside looking in view . But for $200+ it is worth every penny ! We are a Daiwa family over here . Once my daughter is old enough her first reel will be a Daiwa lol 😆
PS I caught my PB snook on the Daiwa Fuego 3000 like the first month I had. It was a 30+ inch snook off a dock along some mangrove shorelines . It’s weird because it’s like the snook didn’t know he was hooked . 0 fight almost . And I hoisted him up on the dock . I wish we could post pictures in these comments threads like on Facebook I would’ve posted my picture of that snook
@@Saltstrong it’s sad , but the reel is still fully functional and catching fish . I’m still looking into a permanent solution for the fix . Super Glue is great until I hook into a 25+ inch snook or red drum that wants to fight me
I had the bg 2500 and i have a fuego lt 2500. My daily driver reel that does it all? My exceler lt 3000, why? Same size as a bg 2500, but with higher drag rating, more line cap that both the fuego and the bg and almost as light as the fuego. And you dont really need the magseal. And a big plus, is only 80 bucks.

Line lay issues can happen sometimes, but it's a quick fix. I haven't noticed any issues with casting distance, wind knots, etc. but it wouldn't hurt to add a washer to the main shaft. That would even out the line lay easily.

In fact that's not a carbon, that's graphite aka plastic. Carbon doesn't flex. This might be misleading, especially since Daiwa started calling their graphite Zaion V to lure more people to think it's carbon just like their Zaion. Be careful with lower spec Daiwas as their roller bearing are super cheap and will cause you a lot of problems on the water as soon as water gets in, plus the stems of smaller sizes are really limber and start flexing from 4 pound drag pressure. If you are a Daiwa fan boy get BG, it has a lot less flaws then cheap LT series reels that are, lets be honest, single use reels.
@@valentinmalinin Within the statement of "cheap bearings" or even good ones on any reel many people do not know or realize how much water gets in the roller bearing. My point is to use Corrosion X to resolve that on any reel. Bad design or other is anther subject.
Great reels for heavier game scenarios! But loaded with 10lb braid and throwing 3" plastics (and smaller) on light jig heads/Weighted Hooks in shallow water, it's probably not the best option. Even the VR50 is not considered a finesse reel. Again, it's all about Application.
You don’t really need 100$ reel for inshore fishing, I’ve caught lots of reds and snooks on 20$ reel from China and Penn Pursuit would handle pretty much anything inshore if you want to be a little more fancy
@@WhiteGhost21 nice reel for the decent price. Well, it is nice to have spinfisher or battle if you have lots of money, but it is not necessary for sure. For offshore species, I would probably pay extra and buy spinfisher VI, however, I've caught 30 lbs blackfin tuna with pursuit II with 0 problems.

We are sorry to hear the reel was damaged! The Fuego's are great reels!
Thanks for the info!
I use a van stall
Teban GTS3 You should try it 😉
Thanks!
The line lay looks kinda suspect on these reels?
Make sure to ask this over in the Community (www.saltstrong.com/) where the coaches spend their time.

Line lay issues can happen sometimes, but it's a quick fix. I haven't noticed any issues with casting distance, wind knots, etc. but it wouldn't hurt to add a washer to the main shaft. That would even out the line lay easily.
Baitcasters are the future
lol
@@anotheryoutuber_ laugh it up. They already dominate the band world and the inshore world in some states. Theres nothing a spinning reel cam do a baitcaster can't in the inshore game.
@@ETuss713 casting small live baits from docks, piers or jetties doesn’t go to well with bait casters if you compare it to a spinning reel
@@fisherman1353 no issue casting free line shrimp here.
@@ETuss713 they all have their place, no one product is perfect. i aint got a problem with any way to fish, its all fun. i laugh cause telling the future is hard enough and limiting to one option is more confidence then im willing to give. its all just a trend given enough time. keep on loving whatever gets you on or in the water
For quality setup, 80% of the money should be invested on a good rod, 20% on the reel.
Thanks for the feedback!
Easy solution for any bearing, Corrosion X, especially saltwater. Never needed to change a bearing for years.
@@Sweetaccord how that fixes flawed construction roller bearing (antireverse clutch) and overall weak construction of the reel?
@@valentinmalinin Within the statement of "cheap bearings" or even good ones on any reel many people do not know or realize how much water gets in the roller bearing. My point is to use Corrosion X to resolve that on any reel. Bad design or other is anther subject.
Very informative video thanks sir
Most welcome!
Yep, Van Staal can do anything!
they should $$$$
They are great reels!
100$ reel? Haha I use $1000 reels. Saltigas and dogfights and shimano stellas. We won't be fishing together. I love $$$$$ top if the line tackle
I Love to enjoy my day of fishing and I also like to enjoy my gear... I haven't had a $20.00 reel since Kmart blue light special.
@@stripervince1 you don’t have any of those. Why are you lying
@@stripervince1 I use million dollar reels. We won’t be fishing together.
Penn pursuit 4 in 2500....can't go wrong
That is a good one!
You can easily get good bang for your buck at half of your hundred buck target.
Thanks!
View’s on long cast spools????
What can we help you with?
Ye it can. It's the Shimano Nasci 4000.
Thanks for sharing!
Penn every time
"They both catch fish" 🙄
It's not wrong!!
Is this a joke to waste time? Almost from beginning until end of video you talk talk talk.
I use a fuego 3000 20lb braid 15 lb leader on a 9 ft rod rod rated 8 to 17 lbs for salmon on the rivers here in British Columbia Canada ....if its the big Fraser river i use 30 lb braid with 20lb leader (bought an extra spool)
Thanks for sharing!!
I never hear anything bad about the BG, but tons of bad stuff about the fuego
Thanks for the feedback!
I've realized you guys are downlow salesmen. The best gear is who sponsors your gig. And by the way. Nice foopa beard boy. Maybe tuck your shirt in 😂
