This is the Catalinbread Sabbra Cadabra, a pedal inspired by one of the most influential tones in the pantheon of rock, Tony Iommi's Laney Supergroup amplifiers pushed by the Dallas Rangemaster treble booster. This magic combination of treble booster and a high headroom British amp was the tonal bedrock for Sabbath's most earth-shaking riffs, and Catalinbread has captured its essence in this singular distortion pedal. The Sabbra Cadabra features an actual Supergroup preamp using JFETs instead of tubes. The outside controls give you everything you need to dial in classic riffs or today’s doom. The gain is actually the Laney’s gain while the Range adjust the modified Naga Viper treble booster that is permanently driving the preamp. This important control determines how much low end is driving the circuit and allows stock settings to tighten up the low end or fatter, almost fuzz like textures as you turn it up. Finally, you can fine tune this smoking rig to your amp via the Presence control which is post-gain and won’t change the core tone you’ve dialed in. Like all of Catalinbread's superb line of pedals, the Sabbra Cadabra is handmade right here in Portland, Oregon, and features true bypass switching.
Wife: Ssshhh.. turn that down
Me: Shut up, Andy's doomin some shit out right now
Haha ... I really know what you mean !!! Wifes are the best musician's enemies !
Chuck Norris thats why im going to whores and still jerk myself at 31...
XD
Catalinbread: We have this Iommi pedal....
Andy: [transforms into genetic duplicate of Iommi] I'm on it.
Andy has it down. The signature Iommi vibrato is spot on.
What's his name? Andy who?
@@KSandy-iy6fg Andy Martin, he’s moved to a different channel now
Damn sure does
wow had no idea andy was an Iommic disciple.
Best new fuzz/distortion since the Muff that I've heard.
I'm not even a metalhead but damn that tone is incredible
Anthony Sclafani, I'm a metalhead
You don't have to be. Sabbath didn't even know they was 'metal' they were a hard rock band who massively contributed to spawning a genre.
@@samc3241 I have plenty of video footage here with even them saying they didn't really like the term metal?
@Nathan Lange yes, musicians can be wrong about their own music.
@Nathan Lange worshipping Lemmy (or any musician) and hiding behind his words is an even wilder position of authority.
why iam headbangin on pedal review
Hilarious, as I was head banging I saw your post! Great tone, great guitarist demo'ing great riffs! Probably will drive UP some single coils!
@@dantenapoles5951 definitely in my pedal wishlist!
Impossible NOT to headbang to The Lord Of Riff's riffage
32 people dislike the fact they can't play like Andy. These tones and playing are amazing.
Can’t play God’s riffs is what you meant, I believe.
Not only a very very cool pedal that replicates those tones well, but also a great demonstration. Many (most I would say) guitar players have trouble with Iommi riffs because it is important to play them in the right neck position, and with an articulate but vaguely sinister vibrato- often on the entire chord. Excellent demonstration! Love this thing, and will likely have to have one soon!
Iommi played rhythm in bridge positions. Source: he said it himself on facebook.
@@jakedibiase7404 exactly
@@jakedibiase7404 I don’t think he meant which pickup to use, he meant where on the neck to play a given song
He double tracked his riffs and he wasn't always perfectly in tune so that gave it his signature vibrato chords.
This is probably the first pedal I've heard that actually replicates the original tone well. I mean shit, that's an exact match!
Catalinbread is amazing at it. The Galileo is a legit Vox in a box and Dirty LIttle Secret gets pretty damn close to a Marshall.
universalmanchild who gives a shit. if it sounds good and provides a clean signal then who gives 2 shits...
oh look we have a dipshit over here..
He's talking 'bout U eh hole !lmao
AGREED
I give massive props to you as a guitar player. Your tasteful demos and excellent no pick techniques are the main reason I watch these demos.
Really appreciate the kind words! I hope you've found my current vids as well on AndyDemos and Reverb channels.
Cheers,
Andy
If Andy were to release a guitar covers album, I would totally buy it.
Also, I bought this pedal about a year ago after watching this demo, and it's become my favorite thing on my pedal board. It never disappoints.
It's hard to be a Sabbath fan and not want this pedal! I've gone back to this video so many times.
edgeleybmusic Me too. But fuck, as a teenager who obviously doesn’t make much money, it’s hard to get a hold of one.
expecting to hear ozzy start singing
No thanks, I'll take Dio instead
...but this pedal is supposed to replicate the Ozzy era! 😜
Alex Murphy Booo
Dio wasn’t a fit for sabbath, the only sabbath is Ozzys sabbath
This is unreal! At 1:09 it sounds EXACTLY like Lord Of This World on the record
OmG It really does !!!!!!!
Important to include the low E on that main riff.
it helped having the album playing at the same time
Les T I don’t know what you’re talking about because you can’t really hear the original guitar in the background.
Can't match the attack with just his fingers. Much better with a metal pick.
I have heard Andy play Fairies Wear Boots, I can now die happy.
I was amazed to hear to hear you playing "Sometimes I'm Happy" at 3:23 from Live at Last!!! An awesome riff
The version from live at last is from Asbury Park i believe. they actually it during California Jam 1974 :)
that lord of this world solo was amazing
dude that vintage SG...
omfg
I have one you wanna but it? Mines a 1969

I love the VOL4 easter egg.
My God this pedal is awesome....I need it!!!!
All the Catalinbread pedal are fantastic! This one is a must for any metal head.
That pedal is sure the best Iommi-in-a-box I ever heard but damn... That playing was so well done that I needed to watch the video again. Gratz
just when you thought you had enough pedals...
u slay dat guitar then turn around and sound like a voiceover master! a riddle wrapped in mystery. rock on
He's a smoothie
I went to click the like button, but it turned out that I have already done it one of the other times I have watched this great demo. :)
Every guitar player should have this, what a great pedal.
Love it when you play Sabbath! Your Cornucopia ( I think ? ) from the Pharoh fuzz video was awesome as well.
So many reviews for the same pedal but I just love it. I can't help watching every one. Great sound.
Jesus Christ it nails Tony's tones!!!! You are a badass guitarist dude
Deep Pedal, and I dig the way Andy uses the volume knob to drive the amp.
You guys ask how he sounds like that? I'll tell you the secret... PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!! Every Musician knows that!!! Great pedal demonstration and superb playing. If you don't like it then don't watch. Problem solved. Peace, Love & Music to all.
Pretty spot on Sabbath tone.
Awesome, Nice zeppelin chord at the end too !
Andy youre definitely one of my favorite guitarist on social media great great tone!👍🏼
love this pedal. i think this is one ive been looking for
Jeezus H, this video alone has to be responsible for selling 50% of these pedals ever! \m/
I just ordered one of these from Sweetwater. Gonna be the final piece to my doom board.
Those of you guys complaining need to get a life. You guys were most likely commenting on a video last week and praising the crap out of Andy and PGS and now you're acting like spoiled entitled brats. These videos exist because they're selling pedals, not selling records. If they need to either redo a video or do a bunch of versions to communicate and create a buzz for another rad hand wired pedal than they can do it. I'm sure they really appreciate the viewership but loosing you as a "fan" is most likely not a priority unless you're actually buying pedals from them and not just watching videos. Also for those who are also complaining that they're only concerned with corporations and money now, Catalinbread is a small portland based company in the same city as PGS and out of all the companies that they work with, they're probably the tightest and most loyal with this highly respectable but still relatively small sized company that still hand wires their pedals. (I mean geez, it's not like you're complaining about boss, ibanez, or Dunlop having reruns of videos on this channel) I believe that since PGS has promoted dozens of smaller companies and also uploaded hundreds of great demos, they in turn deserve grace with our "expectations"..especially from those who've probably never even bought a pedal from them.
Gary Kramer Huh?
universalmanchild couldn't be more clear up the rest of us....read it again, or have a close friend read it to you out loud.
Alas, ye typeface of this astounding pedal 'tis reminiscent of Pentagram - another prodigious and influential band of Metallic virtuosos! Well done pedal'smiths Catalinbread!
This post now concludeth!
man this is great but im upset that he didn't actually play sabbra cadabra lmao. incredible sounding pedal and great demonstration
This pedal is the real deal. I wish I didn't wait so long to buy one.
Just picked one up on eBay. Thanks for the killer pedal settings!
Brilliant demo, had me singing along to Fairies Wear Boots!
I spy that little "Sometimes I'm Happy" riff around 3:30
their best unreleased track
Dropped to C#Standard , with light strings, on a Gibson scale length; a difficult sound to achieve using a regular set up.You hear a lot of discussion over minor variables, but it's very legit to go as far outside of the box as you need to in order to find what works for you.Iommi is a great example.
I came here researching a pedal, but got so much more. Dude! You're playing Black Sabbath fingers only, no pick (I just noticed). I thought that was just for Chet Atkins and Mark Knopfler. That's so frickin' awesome! I wanna learn how to do this. Liked & subbed!
Sick video
Love Andy, this is the only demo that gave me goose bumps! he does Iommi so well! I think I neeeeeed this pedal! I've heard great things about the naga viper and if this is just a Sabbathed up version than I'm all in!!
Andy is the fuckin BOMB
Great playing ! The best demos on the internet hands down!!!!!!!
This sounds amazing.
Andy is Soooo Versatile. He can Play Any-style. Ya Gotta Love Tony Iommi ( talk about an original sound & style ). Tony constantly Invented fantastic guitar parts !!! This pedal absolutely nails that: Black Sabbath Dark, Evil Sound. I Really enjoyed this video. I am a Sabbath Fan from waaay back. I Always thought Tony Iommi was very Under-Rated.

bro you always pick the best gems to play
great job on Lord of this world! perfect
jesus lord I was b-blown a-away in the first 10 seconds, with "Under the Sun" riff...WHOAAH!
Andy- your "fairies wear boots" is inspiring. So much fun!! thanks!
Opening with Under The Sun, moving to Lord of This World... epic
Amazing pedal and review!
Cool, played it with SG, pure Laney's amp tone in the 70's
I ordered one two days ago! I can’t wait!!
And I got it and it didn’t work.
@@Mandrahale What was wrong with it?
@@Mandrahale Wow.... That's shitty man
amazing playing as always wow i am floored!!!!!
1:06 Perfect bending !
Under the sun was HEAVY
I got a crush on this pedal
I swear!!!... How much for private lessons Andy???? You absolutely ROCK!!!!🤘☺🤘
Thats Awesome, Its a Laney circuit in a box! That sounds pretty close to Iommi's tone. I'm gonna have to try it.
Just got one of my own!
Damn, his strat sounds like Iommi's SG!
Man, his tones on "Faires Wear Boots" with that SG sound incredible!!!!
SG--> Sabbra Cadabra --> Laney --> Laney Cab--> No way it would sound different then Iommi.
If the guitarist DOESNT KNOW HOW TO PLAY LIKE IOMMI , it doesnt matter what the %^&* he's plugged into, K? K. So, for me it's Marshall Marshall Schenker Jon roth Marshall Marshall Schenker Jon Roth........And maybe Hughes and Kettner, baby.
It's up to you what you do with the tone, Tone. :) I'm sure Tone boosts his signal with a pedal or two.....I hope I may've helped some of yas out. Maybe that ringmaster or whatever he used in the early 70's to boost his signal and tone.......No drugs though. :)
Here's the deal folks, if you buy this pedal and you have a sh&^&y sounding amp, you are f&^*ed!!! The amp comes first...more important than the guitar, in terms of tone. Having said that, you do need intonation and a good playing guitar. Staying in tune I guess maybe the most important thing, and alot of us, including schenker, iommi, etc,. will occassionally have some issues do to our manhandling of the instrument and other factors...Get urself a good guitar, also! Bye bye kiddies!
So cool. You're an amazing guitarist and that's a beautiful guitar! Thanks for the pedal demo.
Awesome playing and general awesomeness!!
I got this pedal and LOVE it!
Amazing job on after forever
Black Sabbath "under the sun" amazing
Andy, can you please do a tutorial of the parts of Fairies Wear Boots you play in this video?!
no,he demos pedals.he isn't a fucking guitar teacher, were the hell did you get the idea he does guitar teaching?
Because he used to do lessons on the website...
@@trillrifaxegrindor4411 my goodness, are you angry??
trillrif axegrindor Chill out, God damn
Best guitar player in whole youtube who plays cool music and suits the style of the pedals
I can only imagine what a MUFF going into this would sound like (both gains halved of course.....mostly).
You've got Iommi down to a T!! Except doing it left-handed!
Like Andy, this pedal sounds pretty damn legit.
love the pedal especially with the sg
If your not playing Sabbath there's no point, but what Sabbath it does!
Wow! Nailed it!
Hi Andy, I'm a big fan of your videos. What do you use to make the drum tracks for your demos?
Andy, awesome playing. you + it totally nailed "Under the Sun" and "Lord of this World." What signal processing was involved in capturing the audio for this demo besides guitar -> catalinbread sabra cadabra? e.g. amp type? microphone type? recording software? etc.
Credit really needs to go to Andy and the PGS production team for getting the kinds of tones they get. To be fair, the pedal is only a small part of what you are hearing. Catinbread makes great pedals, but no pedal is just going to give you tone like this.
I'm pretty sure Andy does everything himself i.e. shoots the video, captures his own audio, mixes, etc. And he doesn't colour anything, what you're hearing is what it sounds like in the room. Thought I remembered him saying that in an interview. Btw there are definitely pedals that will give you tone like this, along with the guitar and amp. You need to know how to set everything up properly. There's nothing magic about it, just practice.
ANDY IS A DAMN ROCK GOD!
Under the Sun to Lord of This World.... yeah.
It sounds like it really want to be a fuzz pedal but it's parents said no.
I really like it, a little pricey for me though :'-(
Same
Apparently there is a very cheap clone by Nux, called 'High Gain', also re-branded as Twinote, strangely called 'Pπ Fuzz',
I ordered that one yesterday, thinking it's a Muff clone with mid-control... seems it isn't, in a few days I'll hear what it really does.
if you don't mind soldering yourself, you can order a exact clone kit for something like 50 bucks and put it together following instructions. not that hard and quite educational.
Thing is too no matter how much you spend, NOTHING can duplicate a tube amp with it's power stage driven into clipping. Best thing is to just dial in YOUR TONE and go nuts. Trust me I have wasted thousands with Kempers and Axe FX and many other systems only to go back to my tube amp. I do like a modeler for home practice and grab n go gigs but not for true tube sound.
Fuckin love Andy! Pedal sounds right as well
Everytime I watch these videos all I can think of is he must have the toughest thumbs and index finger of all time!
This sounds better than the album.
No
Nope it sure doesn't.
Praise Iommi
Andy, You're an Animal ! I mean C'mon. Nailing one of my favorite bands Guitar Classics w/o a pick which is impressive in this genre. I do like that Naga Viper and I ask anyone , would it be overkill to use both the Naga Viper and the Sabbra Cadabra together ? Anyone remember Dave Chappelle's Stoner movie Half Baked and the secret word was what ?.............Sabbra Cadabra !
Love this thing!!!
God I love Iommi 😎
love your demos of this pedal, but I'm curious to know if you were running this on 9V or 18V, or does that make much difference in sound?
Thanks for the question, I believe I only used 9v, since it was more accurate to the Sabbath tone. 18v raises the headroom, so it’s not quite as fuzzy and you gain a little more output. This is the generally behavior of most dirt pedals that accept 9-18v 👍🏻
Rockin effect!
It’s illegal to use this pedal without an SG
Use the pedal with some John Birch pickups and you’re ready for a Black Sabbath tribute band
You're playing is so cool, how do you get such heavy attack and volume with no pick?
Watch Jeff Beck, Live at Ronnie's video. Great video.
yeah, effin awesome!

Amazing Sound! 😈😈😈👏👏👏
